Once Lily found a decent place that was away from the servants, she placed the purple jewel into her brother's hand and looked up at him expectantly. He looked down to find himself holding the jewel that he had given his sister to practice on.

"Why are you giving this back to me? I gave it to you so you could practice to your heart's content. Did you finally give up?" He started to roll his eyes and Lily smacked him on the back of the head.

"Stop being an idiot. I need you to focus your magic into this. I can improve it if it tries to use up too much mana, but I can't test other things by myself so I need you to do this for me please."

"Fine, but nothing will happen when you put mana into an item that is not enchanted." He held the jewel lightly in his palm as he imagined pushing his magic into the jewel. Surprisingly it didn't take as much concentration as he thought it would. Almost like the stone was guiding his magic to it. He almost dropped it when he started glowing a light shade of purple.

"Ok, it looks like it is accepting mana easily. Now to see if it is as strong as I need to be."

Lily started taking a few steps away from her brother. He was too busy looking over his glowing body to even notice. Every inch of his body had a thin layer of mana surrounding him. It was a light purple but not so bright that you couldn't see his clothes and body.

"Ok, Alex. I need you to stand still just for a few seconds ok?"

The boy looked up to see his sister holding her palm in his direction. She summoned a ball of fire and threw it in his direction before he had time to act.

"WHAT ARE YOU..."

Alexander started to shout until the fireball bounced off his body. It felt like a small ball had hit him and not a deadly attack. He looked over his body where his clothes didn't even have burn marks. He looked back up to his sister who was smiling and jumping in excitement.

"It worked! It worked!"

"HEY?! What just happened?"

"What are you talking about? My enchantment worked perfectly just like I planned." She crossed her arms over her chest smugly. She had managed to do the impossible in this world and felt very accomplished. She even got to freak her brother out for calling it stupid.

"YOU TRIED TO KILL ME! IS THAT WHY WE HAD TO GO SOMEWHERE SECLUDED? YOU DIDN'T WANT THEM TO FIND MY BODY?!" The boy's face had long gone pale and he looked terrified.

"I think you're overreacting a bit. You're the one that said it couldn't be done. I just accepted the challenge and proved my theory correct." She pointed to the purple jewel as she continued to defend herself. "I enchanted it to be like defensive armor. Imagine a protective barrier that moved with your body. Although I'm not sure how long a normal person could feed it magic without getting exhausted. Could you wear it for me and give me feedback so that I can upgrade it?"

She held her hands to her chest and gave her brother a pleading look. He had to look away to hide his blush. This was the first time his little sister had asked something of him. He figured as a big brother he could at least help her with this. He was still a child but even he knew that what she had accomplished was incredible. The only enchanters he could think of were old men who could barely make a barrier enchanted with more than three people. Lily had managed to make something new and all by herself in just days.

"I guess I could hold onto it and let you know how well it functions. I am your big brother after all."

Lily watched as his angry face turned into one of embarrassment and she couldn't help but giggle.

"Thank you so much. You are the best brother in the world." She jumped into his arms and wrapped her arms around his neck hugging him. They stayed like that for a while as Alexander asked question after question. He wanted to know what other ideas she had for future enchantments and what other objects he should collect for her to practice on. She couldn't help but giggle at his newfound excitement.

For the next few weeks, Alexander had taken the purple jewel with him everywhere. He tried seeing how long he could supply it with magic without exhausting himself. Surprisingly he found he could hold the barrier for a few hours at a time. He thought it more practical to only use it in battle or emergencies so that a person's mana isn't drained only for protection, but he had to admit how useful this could be.

His sister was a genius and everyone that met her would agree with him. She was different than other kids. Especially for a small girl who grew up as a commoner in an orphanage. He decided to show his father what they had been doing. He was going to make sure the whole world knew just how much of a genius his little sister was.

Lily was sitting on a swing in the garden after dinner. She slowly moved the swing by dragging her toes on the ground. It was quiet and peaceful and she was soaking in the last of the day's sunshine.

"Lily, do you have a moment?"

She turned her head to see Arthur standing behind her with a kind smile on his face. Unfortunately Lily could see the worry in his eyes.

"Of course Dad, what's wrong?"

Arthur couldn't help but smile. This young girl could read the situation at a moment's glance. Perhaps he didn't need to worry as much as he thought.
