Lily had been put in a classroom with twenty other kids her age and given multiple different paper tests. She had figured the tests were so easy to not be so hard on the commoners and shrugged off the weird feeling she got every time the teacher looked her way when she would turn her test over before anyone else.
When it came to the magical test students were put into rooms along with an advisor as they asked to see different examples of their magic. Saying the advisor who had been grading Lily was shocked would be considered an understatement. He was completely in awe of her talents and ease with spells. When she started creating fireballs without incantations he almost fell out of his chair in shock.
He asked her more questions than probably necessary and so she quickly explained that she had been under the guidance of Elros the head mage. She had felt good about her tests when she was excused to go get food and was excited to get her school schedule the next day. That was at least until the next morning came and she was summoned to the headmaster's office before classes even started.
That was how she found herself sitting in a chair facing the older man who had introduced himself as the headmaster. She honestly expected him to look more like Dumbledore with a long white beard and a wizard hat or something. The man in front of her hard dark red hair with a few grays here and there. His face was cleanly shaven and he had a scar on his right eyebrow. He also wore a suit made from expensive-looking red and black material just like the school uniform she was currently wearing. She sat down nervously with a cup of tea and a snack in front of her. She was too scared to touch them though.
"I have to say that even though I have heard the rumors about you lady Liliana, you've surpassed my expectations already."
His smile brightened up the atmosphere as I fiddled with my skirt unsure of where this conversation was going.
"I'm sorry?"
"You have managed to score the highest marks ever recorded for a first year. And I'm afraid the instructor that examined you learned more from you than he thought he would be able to teach you himself."
"So you can't teach me?"
The old man laughed at my question. I wasn't quite sure what was so funny about the situation, but I was starting to get concerned by his behavior.
"I'm honestly not sure what we could teach you from your test results. Regardless I refuse to let talent like yours slip from my grasp so easily. You are free to be excused from all regular classes if you would like. We ask that you still attend battle strategies as a future ruler and you will be required to join at least one club of your choosing. I have decided to make you the class representative for the first years as the highest scorer so you will be asked to join student council meetings."
My mind was racing at the information he was throwing at me.
"Wait you want to make me the class representative? What does a representative even do?"
He sent a warm smile my way before answering.
"Exactly as it sounds. You would represent all the first-year class. If any student has any issues or worries, you would be the first person they go to. You are always welcome to come to me or any other of the teachers for help of course. You will have the freedom and authority to handle any disputes between students in your grade as you see fit."
"I feel like you're giving me a lot of authority after only meeting me for a short time."
"You were hand-selected by our king to be the future queen lady Liliana. As our future ruler, I wish to help show you the proper way to rule over others."
"You said you heard rumors about me?"
I asked with a curious but embarrassed tone. I had never really felt like someone too special, but Chris was always telling me how much the people already loved and respected me. I guess it was hard to believe.
"I would be amazed if anyone hadn't heard of you by now my lady. The church praises you as a saint sent by the goddess herself. The children from orphanages all around the kingdom sing songs of the beautiful princess with a heart of gold."
I blushed at his statement as I had no idea children sang songs of me and the church called me a saint. I knew we had friendly relationships with them both as I had received many letters from the church and the children at the orphanages, but I never thought this would happen.
"A friend of mine met a man who told stories in taverns of a graceful yet fierce noble girl that approached and tamed a wild magical beast that had stumbled into the city. And other stories about your creations and familiars have reached even the smaller towns across the kingdom."
He looked at me with admiration in his eyes. A kind smile spread across his face as he looked at me.
"I am not the only one who has been excited to meet you, my lady. It is an honor to have the privilege to guide someone such as yourself. I'm very excited to see what you can achieve."
"Thank you, sir."
"Call me Robert my lady."
"Thank you, Robert."
"There is also one other matter I would like to discuss before your leave."
"Of course."
"I would like you to participate in this year's tournament."
I stared at the headmaster in shock as he smiled at me in innocence. Alex had told me the school used this tournament to show off their strongest students and I was already being thrown into the show ring before I even had my first official class.
