I rubbed my eyes as I sat up in bed. One of the straps of my light blue slip slid down my shoulder as I reached towards the dresser to grab my journal, the lavender color made my heart feel warm as I flipped to the next blank page.
I started to record the dream I had just woken up from... I have been having the same one for days. It starts with me floating in darkness and then when I blink I am in this clearing in the woods with animals surrounding me. The next second I am running around that clearing with a little boy with white hair.
Then the events get murkier as if I am watching them through a film of tears. I see Seth but he looks different, his clothes are strange and his hair is styled differently. Then I am holding a sweet baby girl with bright blue eyes.
The ending changes every night. One night I had this chilling feeling as words that I can't imagine slipped past my lips, they felt like a sacred oath. Last night I was falling through a pool of dark water, the moon shining above my head and my reflection standing above me. It felt strange like I was sinking and rising to the surface at the same time, unable to control or stop my movements.
"What are you writing?" Seth grumbled as he rolled towards me. The bed was small but warm in the inn we had stopped at last night. We have been on the road for a week and were tired but it was exciting to see so many new places.
"Nothing exciting." I smiled as I closed the book. I will think about the strange dreams later. Right now I will think about Seth and how beautiful his messy curls were tossed on the pillow and how the bits of light coming in from the window shone in his golden eyes.
"Everything from you is exciting." He said with a gentleness that soothed my soul. He lightly grabbed my hand and brought it to his mouth, placing a soft kiss to my palm before leaning his face into my hand.
"If you say so." I rubbed my thumb gently on his cheek, watching him as his eyes fluttered close and his long eyelashes brushed his sharp cheeks. His skin had a colorful flush this morning and when I looked at the magic balled in the center of his chest I was surprised to find it swirling.
I look at the gold thread between us. It pulsed and thrummed between us. I turned so that I was resting on my elbow as I leaned towards him.
"What are you doing, butterfly?" He asked in a breathy way. I closed the space between us, pressing my lips to his. That image of that palace in the clouds appeared again but so did something else.
A gorgeous fountain with the marble sculpture in the middle being a tall tree with golden leaves, the water poured from the leaves in a dozen thin streams to pool in the carved basin of the fountain as the warm sun made the leaves glow and the water shimmer.
I start to pull away from him when he buries a hand in my hair and pulls back into the kiss. Images flash behind my eyes. A forest with trees of ice, leaves so blue it rivaled the sea, a sea that glowed pink and orange in the setting sun.
I pulled away, my forehead pressed to his as I took a deep breath. When I opened my eyes I realized he was already watching me with those golden eyes.
"Did you see it?" He whispered and I felt his breath against my skin. I nodded. "What do you think it means?"
"I don't know, Seth."
"We will figure that out later, right?" He grinned at me as he brushed my hair behind my ears. "We will figure everything out later and we will do it together."
"Together." I repeated in a soft whisper.
