You have to be kidding me
New job and the first location happens to be the workplace of the one and only Jace Dixon?
I know I am going to hell when I die, but it doesn’t mean God has to put me through it while I’m still alive!
The bugs we planted last night were useful, because we had been listening in all day to see if anything suspicious did happen in the shop to lead us to the dealers. It also showed me than in 3 years, Jace has not changed and is still screwing anything that walks. I didn’t realise as me and Chris were monitoring the wires that the person screwing in the stockroom was him, but now it seems pretty logical actually.
Once I was done killing the two assholes who stormed in out of nowhere and my eyes landed on him, I literally forgot how to breathe. So many feelings rushed to me at once, more feelings than I have actually felt in about 3 years. They were a mixture of many things, but the only ones I’m going to focus on are hatred and loathing.
He was the same basically, not only in personality. His hair was shaved and a lot shorter than I remember, but apart from the fact that he has aged he looked identical to what he did 3 years ago. He was taller and maybe a little broader around the shoulders. You could tell that he spent a little too much time at the gym.
His eyes were glued to me in utter shock. I couldn’t blame him really, I was supposto be dead after all.
“How-How are you...” he stuttered, unable to find words from his stunned state. His eyes scanned me up and down, and he blinked a few times as if making sure that I was actually here and wasn’t just going to disappear.
I remained quiet, and to my utter astonishment he did something that I would not have expected. He closed the distance between us and took me in his arms, engulfing me in a tight hug. I didn’t push him off, mostly because I was so stunned at what he had just done.
“It’s really you...” He breathed into my shoulders, his voice sounding like it was about to break any second “Your really here.”
I did not return the hug and just stood there unable to move or say anything. My body unwillingly began to relax a little, and I closed my eyes as he refused to let me go. Having him this close to me after 3 years was so strange, but it was the closest I have come to my old life.
“I’ve misse-” his voice was cut off as I heard a crashing sound from the stock room, and I opened my eyes to see the guy Chris was wrestling earlier tumble out the back with cuts and blood all over his face. He frantically looked behind him to see if he was being followed, then at the scene before him which was me and Jace hugging. I immediately pushed Jace off me and went to reach for my gun and end that asshole, but before I could have a clear shot he was across the room. He grabbed that crying chick that must have been the one screwing Jace in the stockroom earlier, and held MY knife to her throat. MY knife. The one that asshole I choked with a shoelace knocked out of my hand. MY freaking knife. If you couldn’t tell, I was not one for sharing my possessions.
Chris came running into the room, and he froze as he saw the guy holding that crying bitch hostage.
“Stay the fuck away or I swear I will slice her throat open.” He warns everyone, pressing the knife a little harder on the girl’s throat. She lets out a cry of fear. I resist the urge to roll my eyes at her pathetic noises.
The guy begins to move towards the entrance doors that Chris and I smashed earlier, walking backwards while using the girl as a shield.
“Fuck this.” I announce, grabbing my gun and aiming at the guy. I didn’t care if she was collateral damage, that guy had to die. Before I could pull the trigger, I felt a hand on my arm pushing it back down. I look up at Chris and he shakes his head. I give him a desperate pleading look for him to let me just shoot the guy, but he refuses.
“I don’t think killing a civilian will be a great start to this job.” Chris informs me, and I sigh in annoyance knowing he is right. We both turn back to the guy, and I notice Jace staring in disbelief next to me at my actions. I ignore his judgemental stares.
“Wait until I tell the boss about this, he will be fuming!” The guy screams at us. His eyes stare between me and Jace “and wait until I tell him about you Jace!”
Jace points at himself in confusion “What the hell have I done?”
“You and her!” the guy replies, talking about me like I was a flesh eating virus “You know each other!” I remain emotionless as he says this, not letting anything go “I saw you two when I came in, you know an agent Jace! You’re as good as dead when the message gets back to him!”
“An Agent? What the fuck is an agent?” Jace asks in utter confusion. Jesus that boy is slow.
The guy doesn’t answer his question, but just stares daggers at Jace then at me. The silence around us is disturbing until he finally breaks it again.
“You’re a dead man walking Jace.” The guy hisses before he slides MY blade across the girl’s throat. He throws her now lifeless body onto the floor and sprints out of the shop, narrowly missing the bullets that I was currently shooting his way. I ran to the doors of the shop and looked down the high street.
“Fuck!” I curse as I realise that he is well and truly gone. In a state of fury, I turn and kick one of the shards of glass still attached to the bottom of the door, smashing it to a million pieces.
I turn to face Chris and Jace. Chris was shaking his head at my outburst, while Jace was staring at me wide eyed at the fact that I just shattered glass with a kick. I resist the urge to laugh as I realise the last time he saw me, I was a quiet little girl who couldn’t open a jar of peanut butter, and now I shoot people for a living.
“Chill Faith, we will get him sooner or later.” Chris reassures me.
“Why the hell did you not kill him while you were in the back?!” I questioned in irritation.
Chris raised his hands in defence “Hey I was just about to then the next thing I know, 3 guys jump me. I was a little preoccupied in not dying I sort of forgot about him.” Chris explained, and I sighed in frustration.
Jace raises an arm in the air to get our attention “Um...Can someone explain what the hell is going on?” His voice cuts in.
Chris looks at him for a few seconds, and then turns to me completely ignoring his remark “What are we going to do about him?” Chris asks me, pointing to Jace.
I look at Jace up and down; mentally debating on what would be the best thing to do with him. I ignore the screaming in my body as I gazed at him, and just focused on the feelings of hate that I had towards the boy.
“Free him into the big wide world and let him go home.” I reply bitterly “He’ll keep his mouth shut if he knows what’s good for him.” I notice Jace flinch a little at my cold words, but I ignore him.
“Faith we leave him to fend for himself he will be dead by the morning.” Chris counters talking about Jace like he is a circus animal being freed into the wild “You heard that guy; he knows him and is going to his boss. This guy has a big bull’s eye on his forehead now.” He points at Jace.
I clench my jaw as I realise how right he is. I look at Jace again, the thoughts of the last conversation we had 3 years ago flashing through my head. I can feel the anger boiling inside of me. I turn back to Chris.
“Well we could just dispose of him ourselves?” I suggest, and I can hear Jace’s gasp at my words.
“Dispose of me?” Jace repeats in shock “I’m not a fucking bin bag!”
“I can put you in one if you like?” I propose taking a few steps forward as the urge to hit him overtakes me. Just before I reach him I feel Chris arm on my stomach stopping me. My eyes are glued to Jace’s, and instead of being intimidated like everyone else who is at the end of my threats, he stares back at me with a curious expression. Almost like he wanted to see if I would go through with my word.
“Faith, he’s a civilian. You know we can’t kill him and we can’t leave him alone.”Chris explains slowly in an attempt to calm me down. My glares never leave Jace’s. “So basically, he’s coming with us. Ed can decide what to do with him.” Chris concludes, and I shoot my head to him giving him the glare now.
“He’s coming with us?!”
“You never know, he did work with the drug dealer-” Chris stops himself and turns to Jace “What was his name?” he asks him.
“Dan was a drug dealer?!” Jace shrieks in shock, and Chris turns his head back to me.
“He did work with Dan for-” Chris stops and once again looks at Jace. “How long did you work with him for?”
“I worked with a drug dealer for a year?!” Jace shrieked again, and it seemed like he wasn’t even hearing Chris voice anymore, he was just shouting to himself in disbelief.
Chris turns back to me “He did work with Dan for a year; he could be useful in tracking him down.” Chris justifies finally.
I clench my jaw as I take in his words, and I can see his eyes reassuring me that it will be fine, that I just need to relax. After 3 years of living and working with Chris, I knew him pretty well, which includes being able to read the looks he gives people with his eyes extremely clearly.
I sigh in defeat and give him a small nod. He smiles slightly and takes the arm off my stomach that was stopping me from plunging a fist into Jace’s face earlier. I turn my face to look at Jace, who had got out of his shocked state about his colleague and was looking at me to give him the final decision.
“I guess you’re coming with us then Jace.” I finally say through gritted teeth.
I actually notice Jace attempt to hide a smile “Is is a long drive?” he asks, and I fur my brows at the random question.
“It’s about 45 minutes in the car, why?” I ask puzzled.
The smile is released onto his face “Because you have a lot of explaining to do, and 45 minutes to do it in.” He announces, and suck my teeth in irritation. Jace knows that I’m annoyed as I used to do it all the time when I was younger when someone pissed me off. Even through the current circumstances, he just couldn’t help his obnoxiousness “Can we stop for doughnuts on the way? I didn’t eat at lunch.”
I reach for my gun again, but Chris’s hand is once more on me before I pull it out. Chris has an amused look on his face that matches Jace’s. Great, they’re both irritating assholes.
“Let’s just go before I add a 5th person to my body count tonight.” I state calmly, turning to walk out of the shoe shop we had destroyed while hearing the sniggers of both of them behind me.
Oh this car journey should be fun with Jace’s questions about the last 3 years.
I should have shot him when I had the chance.
