I rolled over on my comfortable bed, instantly grabbing for Mr. Wiggles.
“Morning little bear—“I continued to pat the bed, searching for him. I blinked awake, and sat up a little. My heart started to race, as I looked around the room for him. I stopped searching, remembering I threw him out about a week ago. I slammed my head back onto the pillows.
Why would I do that?
My head tilted to the side, where the small bear would be sitting, waiting for me to hug him to my chest. We’ve been through so much together; I can’t believe I got rid of him so easily. I sighed, and rolled over on my bed. My eyes shut again, and that’s when my phone buzzed. My hand blindly reached for the noise, and I flipped the phone open. Until the image became clear, I rubbed my eyes frantically.
If you’re going to the Carnival, be there at four. Feel free to bring a friend. You should bring about twenty bucks encase you want to play games, or eat something. The show is at 5:00, in the giant red and white striped tent. I gave you the directions already, but if you don’t have them just call me. I have to walk around and greet people at this event, so I’m not going to be in one spot. Just try not to embarrass me, and dress casually.

Holy crud I slept fourteen hours! It’s two in the afternoon. Bring a friend…would Marcy want to go? I slipped out from under the covers, and ran into Marcy’s room. She’s face down on the bed, with her pillow over her head. This dumb girl is always out really late, and then sleeps until three in the afternoon. I keep telling her College starts soon, but she just doesn’t care. She rolled over in her bed, moving her pink sleeping mask up a bit.
Maybe I should wake her up gently.
“MARCY THERE’S A GIANT RAT ON YOUR BED!”
She jolted awake, and let out a piercing scream. Her feet tapped on the floor and she did a little dance to get invisible rats off of her, “Get-it-off-get-it-off-get-it-off!”
I burst out laughing, and her sleep mask head snapped to me. She peeled it back in anger, “Really?”
I smiled brightly, “Yep, you want to go to a Carnival later? It’s being rented out for Devin & Son faculty. It’s at four so you still have a few hours.”
Her scowl changed into a look of confusion, “But you hate Carnivals,” she pointed out.
I scratched my head, “Well, I don’t know. I think I have to be stronger and face my fears.”
“Will there be hot guys there?”
I shrugged, “Probably.”
“Is it free entry?”
“Yes.”
She jumped and clapped her hands excitedly, “Let’s go!”
“Marcy, I just told you it’s at four. It’s one right now.”
Marcy grabbed my arm, digging her nails into it, “Wait…is David going to be there? David Star?”
“Yeah…”
I kept my face blank, even though I really don’t want her to say what she definitely will next, “Can I have him?”
I smiled weakly, “I think he’s…taken already,” I lied through my teeth. He did tell me he was ‘dumped on the street’. So technically he was with someone. “And what happened to you and Brian?”
Or should I say Max. I’ll never understand what happened that night. They all just vanished into thin air, and Marcy instantly woke up in a fog, asking where the frosting was.
“He um…he hasn’t called me back.” Her smile slowly faded, and then popped back up, “Oh my God I can wear my new yellow dress! You know the one that swirls when I spin? Oooh!” She put her hands up and eye my pajamas, “you need to wear this dress I got at Debbie’s Dresses. It has this interesting material towards the hem,” she squealed and grabbed my fingers probing my nails, and then my pony tail of hair, “I can do your nails, and your hair—“
“Marcy!” I screamed, trying to get her to stop ranting. “It’s a casual event; therefore I’m wearing jeans and a t-shirt.”
“But—“
“Marcy,” I interrupted sternly, “no dresses for Faith.”
“But—“
“—N-o,” I dragged out.
She groaned, “Fine, can you at least wear a pink, sparkly headband? You have to wear something girly, at least wear that.”
My eyes widened, and I crossed my arms over my chest, “Fine.”

On our way to the Carnival I started to wish I stayed home.
But as usual, Marcy’s conversation isn’t helping my anxiety.
“I totally get where you are coming from with the whole ‘Scary Clown’ thing. My Aunt took me to a parade one time and this clown was walking around giving kids hand fives. He was probably a pedophile by the way But you never know he might have been hot,” she stopped talking, losing her train of thought. She shook her head out of her daydream, “Anyways, if there are any Clowns or creepy people here, you can just tell them to buzz off and they have to leave you alone. But I did read somewhere that Elephants--”
I blocked her out completely, staring at the people at the front of the Carnival. “Why did I come here,” I muttered, as the Taxi drove through the entrance of the place. The parking lot is practically full, but empty of people.
What if he’s here? No, don’t think that Faith. But maybe that’s the reason I came here. Do I want him to scare me? I don’t even know this guy, all I know is he keeps trying to kill me.
The car came to a stop, and Marcy practically ran out of Taxi. She instantly screamed, and jumped away from the car. My heart raced and I quickly got out of the car, “What?” I asked frantically, as she came over to my gingerly. The Taxi drove off quickly.
She stomped her foot, and then pointed at her dirty yellow heels.“Mud,” she cried, and pointed to them.
I rolled my eyes, “Really? It’s been raining so many times of course the ground would be wet! Who wears heels to a Carnival anyways?” I turned to walk further into the place, and she reluctantly followed
Well, so far I hate this place. People pushed against me, and I struggled to walk to a cleared area. My eyes drifted up to the pretty lights of the Ferris wheel in the distance, and the Carnies o the side of the pathway. A juggler came up to me and started juggling around me, and a crazy bending lady literary brought her foot around her head, and across the front of her neck, “Welcome!” she said happily, with jazz fingers. I forced a smile, and threw some bills into their large jar.
“Hey wait up!” Marcy screeched. She ran up to me, avoiding all signs of mud. “Ugh! This is so gross! These are new--”
I put a hand up to her, as my eyes locked on something I wish I never saw only a few dozen feet away. I swallowed a hard lump in my throat, and blindly grabbed onto Marcy’s arm. “I want to go. I want to go now.”
She pushed her hair out of her face. She walked up to me and put her head next to mine, trying to look at where my gaze is, and “What are you looking at?” I pointed across the pathway, and her mouth turned into a ‘O’.
The Clown continued to dance around the little boy, making him laugh. They have a jokers hat on, and mime-like makeup. The corner of its mouth lifted into a huge grin, and it squatted next to him. It gave the boy a hand five, and pulled a lollypop out of thin air. Their eyes drifted into my direction, but didn’t seem to recognize me. A group of teenagers started to run by me, blocking my view of the clown. When they passed the clown disappeared. The boy is now walking with his mother towards a Cotton candy stand.
I let out the breath I was holding. That was creepy.
“Never mind, let’s keep walking—“I turned to see Marcy gone, “Marcy?” I searched around the herd of people, my heart racing.
I pushed my straight back hair behind my ears, and started to follow the flow of people. I of course managed to get off the path, and become wedged between a pair of people. The guy I’m facing is pretty gorgeous, with black eyes and blond hair. “Um…” the guy dragged, trying to get me to stop staring.
I blushed, “Sorry!” I muttered, and pushed away from them. I bumped into a group with piercings everywhere, “Pardon me!” I stuttered, as I hit some girls face with my shoulder, “ Sorry—“
“ow!” a girl screamed. My shirt stopped me from walking further. The girls lip piercing caught on my shirt. We spun around, trying to get it off only to got her screaming, “Get this off!”
But because her lip is stuck to my shirt, it really came out as: “Ge dis moff!”
“Ok! Stop moving!” I gagged a little, as I attemoted to untangle her piercing from the shoulder of my shirt. People stopped to laugh, literary pointing at us. I frantically undid the lip ring, and she pushed away from me.
She clutched her lip, “Nice going bitch!” she spat, and turned to follow her ‘punk’ budies. They all turned to give me looks, and I stared wide eyed after them.
I ended up running to the edge of the path and tripped over a rock. My body luckily fell into dry dirt, and I quickly got up to brush it off. I walked up to a dart game and puffed out my cheeks in anger. “I’m such a moron!” I flipped over my hair, and then flipped it back up. I leaned against the booth counter as if my hair is always this windblown. I looked inside the dart booth to see nobody there but a kid flipping his phone shut as if he videotaped that whole thing.
Well, at least at least nobody saw that little freak out…
A warm hand grabbed my upper arm, and dragged me in the alley between the dart booth and the basketball booth. “I thought I told you not to embarrass me,” a deep voice growled.
I gawked at the man in front of me, not believing my eyes.
He snapped his fingers in my face to get me out of my trance, “Oh, wow I didn’t even recognize you!” I motioned to his maroon t-shirt, and khaki shorts.
David’s face stayed serious, “Don’t change the damn subject.”
I pouted, “Sorry, I lost my friend and I kind of freaked out.”
He raised an eye brow under his clean brown hair, “I noticed. You practically tore that girl’s lip off. You have a thing with piercings? I notice you don’t even have earrings. Most women I know at least have earrings.” His brown eyes lingered to my clothing, “Or wear dresses.”
I tried to hide my blush that crept up my cheeks, and reached for my piercing-free ear. Then I wrapped my arms around my chest, as if to hide my choice of style from him. “None of that is your business,” I snapped, and turned away from him. I began to walk back on the pathway when he pulled me back to him.
His brown eyes looked above my head at the crowd of people. In the light I can see little flecks of an alien color. I focused on them, trying to figure it out. “Wait, don't leave yet,” he ordered, snapping me out of my trance. I faced where he was looking and felt his face move to my ear. I stilled as David’s smooth cheek rub against mine. The man chuckled when I gasped a little. “My only advice to you is stay out of the shadows, stick with your friend, and don't look anyone in the eye. He can't touch you if you follow all of those,” he whispered.
My Boss brushed past me into the horde of people, before I could respond.
