Since I have a ton of people reading this story and not a lot of time to write. I'm going to ask for at least 300 VOTES until the next chapter! I have to upload for a lot, but I promise to make it my priority if you can get it that high up! -Kat

I didn’t even bother to explain the thing I had saw outside the pizzeria window.

After all, there were simply no words to describe it. Besides the adjectives: exotic, dark, scary, alluring, dangerous, hungry, and probably soulless.

And it was muscular…not that I was looking.

“Bye Faith!” Marcy had said, and hugged me tightly. She told me we would have a movie night Monday when I got home, to help me get through the day. Little did she know just how much I needed to get through this day in particular? Carol had left us early, saying she needed to run some errands with her dry cleaning, leaving me walking along the streets myself all the way to the Devin & Son building.

I felt a sigh of relief, as I entered the building. The clouds in the sky were just itching to break, letting the water soak my silk blouse. I had become such a girly-girl ever since I joined this place. My clothes had to be ironed and pressed the night before, my hair straightened or curled to perfection.

Ok, maybe I over exaggerated there. I really put my hair in a bun and work with what I got in the morning. But as I was saying, there was no need to freak out about the afternoon incidents; everything was fine.

Until I saw the people get out of the elevator, looking like all hell broke loose.

I stopped in my tracks, watching the strange looking girl leave the elevator. Her outfit consisted of a knee-lengthen black skirt, a black corset top, and a spiked collar around her neck. On her feet were combat boots, reaching the edge of her skirt Their hair was a dark pink, in a Mohawk cut. Piercings lined up the bridge of their nose, as well as a giant gage in each ear. What I found strange was the stack of papers she was holding in her hands, as if they could work in such a professional environment dressed like that. Their shirt was a dark band t-shirt, with blobs of creatures on them. On their eyes was heavy black eye shadow, blending their eyes into two-seemingly lack holes.

At my stare they both turned towards me smiling. I blinked, to see them both in a woman’s suit once again. The receptionist with the Mohawk now had long blond hair, with a powder blue blouse, the other girl had similar in attire.

My eyes widened at the sudden change in both figures. “What the...”

I hurried into the empty elevator, my heart racing. What was going on? Had I really just seen that? I pressed the bottom to the top floor quickly, and hid against the wall.

“Please, please let nobody else come into this elevator!” I begged the ceiling, putting my hands in a prayer. The elevator dinged, the doors starting to shut. I let out a sigh of relief, all the way up to the top floor. What are the odds that nobody would take the elevator?

“Maybe I’m going to have a good day after all,” I said to myself.

The doors chimed open again, to see the angriest, most tired version of David Starr I had ever seen. I knew exactly why he was angry. Let’s just say it was mostly my fault.

I opened my mouth to speak, and he put his finger up to silence me. I tried to maneuver around him out of the elevator, but he blocked me with his wide chest. His face stayed black, as he walked forward moving me back into the elevator, and stepped in himself. I stayed frozen in the corner of the elevator, as he pressed the sixth floor button, and stayed facing the doors.

Words weren’t even necessary to know how he was feeling. The anger was just radiating like flames off of him. I couldn’t have caused that much anger in him…right?

After what seemed like hours, the elevator chimed and the doors open. People stood by the doors waiting to get in. I quickly made my way out to get dragged back in by the back of my blouse. “Go to the other elevator,” he growled at the awaiting workers.

Instead of helping me get free of this angry man, they scattered like little mice. The doors closed, and the elevator lowered even more. Was he going to fire me?

He slammed his palm against the emergency brake on the elevator. He put his forefinger and thumb on the bridge of his nose, as if he had a horrible headache. I pushed my hair back in nervousness. “David I—“

His laughter had no humor. “I came to work in a terrible mood, hoping that I wouldn’t have a stack of paper on my desk, with no signatures. I told you too sign those papers, did I not?”

“It was illegal!” I defended; feeling like my voice was so small. “I didn’t think it would matter! I cleaned your office like you—“

“I told you to sign the damn papers,” he interrupted, walking closer to me. “I didn’t ask much of you. Do you know how much trouble I got in because of you?” He had to tilt his head down as he neared my small frame. Even in my heels he was easily a good head taller than me. I cringed against the wall, shaking slightly at the close proximity between us.

“I’m sorry!”

“You’re sorry? If you knew the importance of those papers—“

The doors chimed open, making David lift his head up. Devin walked into the elevator dressed in a dark blue suit, and faced us.“What’s going on here? And I told you to stop using the Emergency break David, you’re going to break it.”

He braced his arm against the wall to the left of me, leaning his back on the same wall as mine. The position of course trapped me in the corner. I looked to Devin for help, not wanting David to freak out again.

Devin motioned for my Boss to move away from me, but he stayed where he was. “Yeah, no.”

“David,” he said in a stern voice. He pointed behind him by the elevator buttons. “Move away from the young lady.”

The way he spoke to David, he sounded like a Father figure. David cleanched his jaw, and dragged his feet across the elevator. He crossed his thick arms over his chest, staring at the wall ahead.

I was thankful to be in the corner.

Devin smiled at me. “I apologize for his extremely rude behavior,” he told me in a polite manner. He leaned forward putting a hand next to his mouth in secrecy. “He doesn’t mean it. You see, he’s still a little hormonal from puberty.” I noticed David scowl at Devin’s back, looking like he wanted to say something back. He started to mock Devin as he continued to talk.”David, knock it off," Devin told him, without even looking.

“Yeah David,” I added, to get a dagger gaze thrown at me.

He muffled something vulgar in response to me, into his closed fist, covering it up with a convenient cough. Devin around again and instantly said, “Excuse me? Watch your mouth around me, young man.”

My Boss crossed his arms once again, and raised an eyebrow. “I didn't say anythin,” David replied in a low voice.

“That’s what I thought,” Devin told him. He returned his gaze to me. “Was he bothering you? Did he touch you?”

“Well he…” David shook his head slowly from behind him, daring me to say more. I crossed my arms uncomfortably. What was I suppose to tell him? David did look like he was going to hurt me. But I know he was grieving about a relative, so I shouldn’t give him full blame. “We were just talking,” I lied.

Devin looked like he didn’t believe me, and turned around to David once gain. David kept his head down, now playing with his tie.

“I see,” Devin said, right when the doors opened to the elevator. He let out a sigh. “I think it would be best if you went home early today. David and I have some…. issues to work out regarding his recent behavior.”

“Great,” David dragged, rolling his eyes. “Just kill me now.”

Devin stayed in the middle of us, as if to block me out. He pulled me out of the elevator. “Go to David’s office, I need to speak with him for a second.”

I started to walk ahead of them, following his directions. My shaky legs struggled to arrive at the office, from being so worried about both of them. Where they fighting? Did I do something I didn’t know about? I stood in the middle of the room waiting for someone to walk in. After long minutes, I convinced myself they weren’t coming back.

The door slammed open, and David walked in with Devin close behind. Devin sat at the edge of David’s desk, looking at me. My Boss walked around to the window, and leaned a hand against it, looking down on the city, his shoulders tense. I looked between the two of them, stepping closer to David. He had to know I wanted to leave.

“Listen, I don’t know what’s going on here. But I really don’t want to be a part of it.”

“Then go home,” David snapped, his eyes dark. He threw his arms up and slapped them down at his sides. “So far you’ve been pretty useless here, besides being a nice view when you wear skirts once in a while. Other than that, you’re just in my way.” “W-what?” I asked, surprised at his sudden attack of words.

“You heard me.”

Had that been the reason he hired me in the first place? I was something to look at when he was bored? I did everything for him! I filed all of his work, made copies, and did his errands when he was too lazy to do them himself.

Devin adjusted his suit jacket. “Faith, leave this office please.”

I held his gaze in shock, but quickly looked away when I felt like I was going to cry. All I had done for him, and he embarrasses me like that in front of Devin? There was nothing else to do right? I had to show him how hurtful he was being.

I reached up and slapped him hard across the face. His head snapped to the side from the force. Instead of getting angry, he started to laugh and clenched his fist by my face, as if he wanted to hit me. “Ugh! Do you see what I have to deal with? She is so frustrating!” he complained to Devin, probably waking up children in Canada from his volume.

A long sigh escaped Devin’s mouth, as if he was fed up with our bickering.“Shut your mouth for once. She just stands up for herself unlike most people you bicker too,” Devin grumbled. David’s mouth popped open at that comment, and he motioned at me with two open palms, to silently point out that I was the bad guy.

Devin ignored David’s gestures, keeping his blue gaze on me. I noticed a piece of his combed back blonde hair was out of place. “Faith, I’m not going to tell you again,. Pease leave this office. It seems I need to have a long discussion with David.”

The man behind me let out a snort in anger, seeming closer to me than he was before. “You make me sound like a fucking two year old. I don’t need a pep talk.”

“You need many pep talks,” I muttered.

“Faith,” Devin told me sternly.

“You might want to leave, no prostitutes allowed before six,” David whispering voice sneered by my ear.

I let out a shaky breath, and stepped away from David. “Fine. Have a nice day Devin.”

“You too,” he replied, his gaze glued on David. They were going to go at it as soon as I closed the door. They definitely had some family issues. I blinked back tears once again, walking briskly out of Devin & Son.

It was really about time to take a nap.
