"Nena, nena tranqulicese. Que en la calle a nadie bese." Santi sang along to the music playing on his phone, he wrapped his arms around my waist and kissed my neck. "Yo solo tengo ojos pa' usted. Relajate, despreocupate."
"Argue all night, then we fucking all morning" he continued singing. "Blame it on the liquor, then we smoking marijuana."
I tilted my head to the side at the lyrics. This was not the original song by J Balvin.
"Is that French Montana?"
He turned the music down. "Yeah, they made a remix."
"What's with you and singing all the time? Maybe you should've become a singer. You have a really good voice." I said to him.
"Thanks" he chuckled. "I enjoy singing but I like what I do with the cartel."
I raised an eyebrow "You like being a criminal?"
"I like having power and money. I'm not gonna lie to you. I grew up in this business and my father taught me all I need to know. I'm good at what I do."
We were hanging out on our own in the kitchen, I was fixing a quick lunch for both of us. Everyone else had gone off to do their own thing. Claire and Mike were on their way back to California in one of my family's private jet.
"It's all done, let's eat!" I walked over to the kitchen table and placed the bowl of salsa with the rest of the ingredients. Santi joined me at the table after he turned off the music and handed me a plate. I reached over to put lettuce on my tostadas and then drowned them in the salsa verde I had made, they looked mouthwatering.
I picked one of them up and took a huge bite, closing my eyes to savor the delicious taste. It wasn't even spicy! I opened my eyes to see Santiago watching me with an amused look. "Easy there, Gabby."
"Try yours!"
He took a bite of his tostada and I looked at him expectantly.
"I love it" he grinned before taking a sip of his beer. "I didn't know you were such a good cook."
"I'm not" I laughed taking another eager bite. "Tostadas are the easiest things to make, if you want to know a good cook you should try some of the stuff Sofia makes."
It's true. Sofi had always been the one in charge of the kitchen when we lived in Chicago. My cooking was decent enough but Nessa wouldn't step a foot in the kitchen unless she was really starving.
"Hola chicos! What are you up to?" my mom walked into the kitchen to grab two water bottles from the fridge.
"Eating some good tostadas Gabby made. Wanna join?" Santi said to my mom.
Mom scrunched up her face in disgust and shook her head. "I can't"
Santi looked over at me questionably.
"She doesn't like tostadas" I explained. "Can't eat them."
"Why not?"
"When I was pregnant with Gabby I had a tostada every day for three whole months." mom answered him.
"What?" my boyfriend laughed. "Why?"
Mom shrugged and laughed along with him. "It was a random craving I had! And don't even mention them to Salvador, he had to eat with me during those three months."
"Maybe that's why you like them so much." Santi said to me.
I shook my head. "Not really, I don't hate them but I don't love them either. I guess it's because I haven't had them in a while."
"You should have seen her earlier" Santi told my mom. "She was impatient because the chicken was taking too long to cook."
"I wanted to eat already!"
"You're grumpy today" he shook his head.
"Make me another tostada" I ordered him.
While Santi did what I told him I looked over at my mom to see her scrutinizing my every move. I raised an eyebrow at her and she looked back at me with wide eyes.
"Mom what's--"
"I h-have to take this to your father" she gripped the bottles in her hand and rushed out of the kitchen without looking back.
What the hell?
Santi finished the tostada he made for me and placed it on my plate.
"Did you see how she left in a hurry?" I asked.
"Yeah, she had to give your dad his water bottle."
"She was acting strange."

Back in our bedroom Santiago was getting ready to go out to take care of some work. I helped him choose out his clothes.
"I'll be back in two hours, I have a business meeting with a potential buyer that wants to buy some merchandise from us."
"Are the guys going with you too?" I asked, my arms around his neck trying to fix his blue tie.
"Nah, they'll be taking care of some other stuff." There was a knock on the door and I turned away from him to go open it. Chamuco was standing outside and greeted me before asking. "Can I speak with Don Santiago?"
"C'mon in man" Santi called out.
I let Chamuco walk inside and Santi turned around from the mirror to greet him.
"What can I do for you, Diego?" my boyfriend asked calling him by his real name.
"Sorry to bother you, sir." Chamuco bowed his head. "I wanted to ask your your permission to fly out to Sinaloa."
"To Sinaloa? Why?"
"My sister Esmeralda just called me to let me know that my mother is very sick in the hospital, they don't know how long she'll last. I want to be with my family."
Santiago nodded understanding. "I wanted you to come along with me to the meeting but you can go and be with them, You can take one of the jets to get there faster."
"No need to, sir. I already hitched a ride with a friend that works at a bus station."
Diego had been the first person we met when we arrived to Mexico. Even though we didn't spend much time with him after meeting the guys he had become a dear friend to the girls and I. I was glad Santi had allowed him to go see his mother.
"Give us a call if you need anything. We'll be glad to help, right babe?" I went to stand next to my boyfriend.
"Thank you, Gabby" Chamuco gave one last bow and walked out the door.
"If Chamuco can't go with you who will you be taking?" I asked Santi, I tagged along with him and we both exited our bedroom and made our way down the stairs.
"I'll be fine on my own"
"Are you sure? You should at least take one of the bodyguards we don't need all of them here." I wrapped my arms around his neck.
A red Camaro was already parked outside, ready for him to go.
"I can take care of myself, amor." he smiled and tapped the gun secured around his waist. "Tu tranquila, yo nervioso."
That was his way of saying he had everything under control.
He brought his lips down to meet mine and I melted into the warm and passionate feeling. He wrapped his arms around me pressing me closer to his body.
I don't know if it was because I got too caught up in the kiss or if I wasn't breathing enough but a sudden feeling of dizziness swept over me and I swayed to the side.
"Gabby" Santi was quick to hold me up right and he stared down at me worriedly. "Are you okay?"
He sat me down on one of the stair's marble steps and sat down next to me.
"What's going on?" my mother's voice called down from upstairs. We both looked up to see her rushing down to join us.
"I don't know. She was about to faint." Santi spoke up. "We should call a doctor. I'm going to cancel my meeting, I'll try to reschedule an--"
"No" I shook my head. " You have to go. I'm fine! I just got a little dizzy, I'm feeling better now."
"But I want to take care of you."
"It's okay, Santiago. Go to your meeting." mom helped me get up and I leaned my body to her side. "I'll call the doctor and make sure she's okay."
"Are you sure?"
"I'll give you a call if anything happens." she gave him a reassuring smile.
"I'll be back as soon as I can" he gave me a quick kiss on the forehead and walked out.
My mother helped me go back up the stairs as I was still feeling a bit dizzy.
"You don't have to call a doctor ma" I said as soon as we reached my bedroom. "I'm sure it's not anything serious."
"I won't be calling a doctor. I already know what's wrong with you." she said in a serious tone.
Typical. Ever since we were little my mom always claimed to know what was wrong with us when we got sick. Sure, she was right most of the time but I'm sure I'm not sick! It was just a dizzy spell, I felt perfectly fine earlier.
"I just need to get some sleep."
"You're pregnant, Gabby."
*****
"You've been intimate with Santiago, right?" mom asked me as soon as we were in the privacy of my room.
"Mom!"
It had been a month since I slept with Santi. I still hadn't gotten my period but there was no way for me to keep track of it. I'd always had an irregular period.
"Have you gotten your period?"
"No" I shook my head. "But sometimes I won't get it for a month. That doesn't mean I'm pregnant!"
"You weren't having sex back then! Did you two use protection?"
I pursed my lips before reluctantly shaking my head. "No."
"Estas embarazada!" (You're Pregnant!)
"Mom! Stop saying that! We don't know for sure. I have to take a test."
She surprised me by reaching into her back pocket and pulling out a pregnancy test.
Oh God.
"Where'd you get this from?" I snatched the box from her hand and took a closer look at it.
"I had my suspicions earlier so I asked your grandma to go buy one at the pharmacy without anyone noticing."
There was a knock on the door and my grandma walked in without waiting for a response.
"Estas embarazada?" grandma Marlina had a big grin on her face and she looked way too excited about all this. "Voy a ser visabuela?" (Are you pregnant? Am I going to be a great-grandma?)
"Grandma!"
"Todavia no se hace la prueba, Marlina" mom answered her. (She still hasn't done the test, Marlina)
They ushered me to the bathroom and ordered me to be quick.
It was all happening so quick! I pulled out the test from the box and took care of my business as soon as I was done I opened the restroom door for them to come in... only to find Nessa and Sofi staring back at me with wide eyes.
"YOU'RE PREGNANT!" Nessa screeched.
"SHHHH!!!" the other women tried to quiet her down.
"You guys told them?"
"They came in here looking for you." mom smiled at me sheepishly.
We all piled into my bathroom and locked ourselves in. I had placed the pregnancy test on top of the sink so my mother walked over to pick it up carefully.
My hands were shaking and Sofi held on to my arm trying to comfort my uneasiness.
"Que dice?" Grandma Marlina asked outloud. (What does it say?)
Mom looked down at the test and took a deep breath before looking up at me with tears in her eyes. "It's positive. Estas embarazada..."
I'm the daughter of a drug lord. I'm the sister of two drug lord's. I'm the girlfriend of a drug lord and now I'm having a baby with that drug lord.
I'm having a baby with Santiago.
BAM! Bet you guys saw that coming, right? And this is just the beginning of the end. All the drama that is about to unfold will lead to the sequel. Only four/five more chapters left.
P.S. The song at the beginning of this chapter is the remix of Ay Vamos by J Balvin ft. Nicky Jam & French Montana. I like the original version better but I'm kind of digging this version too.
J Balvin is bomb.
I do not own any of the music.
