"What the fuck are you doing with these guys?" Martin demanded glaring at the guys. "You have to come with us" he stepped forward and grabbed my arm.
Santiago grabbed my other arm trying to pull me away from my older brother. "You're not taking her anywhere. She came with us and she'll be leaving with us. Who the fuck do you think you are to be bossing her around?"
"Both of you stop it!" I cried trying to rip my hands away but failing miserably. "I'm not going anywhere with either of you."
I can't believe this is happening to me, I finally understood why Diego wanted us to stay away from the guys. They work for the Mexican Cartels too! And of course they work for the Sinaloa Cartel. How stupid am I to not have figured it out? The fancy trucks, the bodyguards...fuck even the Corridos were a hint.
"Let her go!" Santiago growled.
"Santiago she's coming with us, please let her go." Alex spoke calmly.
"I can't do that."
Then out of nowhere I felt myself being ripped away from Santiago, I hissed in pain cradling my hand to my stomach. Martin stepped in front of me protectively and grabbed Santiago from the collar of his shirt. "You little son of a bitch! Don't ever tell me what to do. I have more rights than you do when it comes to her."
"Oh really? And why is that?" Santi spat looking unfazed.
"Because she's my little sister, pendejo." (Idiot)
Everyone went silent and stood rooted to their spot in shock. Santiago turned to look at me and Martin back and forth, waiting for me to deny what my brother had just said.
I couldn't help but feel a little bad for not telling them about my family, but this is something that's very hard for me to talk about. Santi had even tried to protect me from my own brother, but all of this guilt I felt was forgotten as soon as I remembered he had kept a big secret from me...and his was even worse!
"Your sister?!" Joel exclaimed with a bewildered look. "This is the sister your father always talks about? The one that left with your mother?"
Martin nodded. "This is her"
"Are Sofi and Nessa part of the Mafia too?" Leo spoke up, glancing back at Sofi and Nessa who were still leaning against the wall, having no idea of what was currently going on.
I shook my head. "They're not. And just because my father and brother's are involved in this shit doesn't mean I'm part of it too."
Martin sighed heavily, shaking his head at me. "Is that so?" he asked with an amused expression on his face. "Then what the hell were you doing hanging out with these guys?"
"I had no idea they were part of it" I spat glaring at each and every one of them.
"And besides I bet they're just wannabe drug dealers that are working for the big bosses of the Sinaloa Cartel, only someone dumb would go out with girls and risk getting caught."
All of the guys burst out laughing, well all of them except for Santiago but he still had a slight smile on his face. I stared at them confused as to what they found so funny.
"You really have no idea who we are, do you hermosa?" Santiago spoke in a deep voice. (Beautiful)
I took a step back feeling a nervous and scared by the tone of his voice.
"N-No, but I would l-like to know-w"
"Does the name Bustamante ring a bell to you?" he asked.
Bustamante? Bustamante...Bustamante...Bustamante. HOLY CRAP! BUSTAMANTE?! Oh my God, this is even crazier then I thought... we're in some deep shit. They work for the Bustamante family, the wealthiest guys in Mexico, the most powerful family in the drug cartel world.
"You work for them?"
He laughed out loud, an amused look on his eyes. "My name is Santiago Archivaldo Bustamante...heir and leader of El Cartel de Sinaloa"
And that just killed me.
A fucken Cartel boss, this whole time I've been hanging out with a criminal and actually enjoying myself. Am I ever going to be able to lead a normal life out of this Cartel shit? Or will my father's world haunt me wherever I go?
I have to get out of here, I have to get my friends and I back to our home. We can't get more involved with these guys. There's no way Nessa and Sofi will want to be with Daniel and Leo after they find out who they truly are!
"We're leaving!" called out pushing myself out of the circle. Nessa was next to Sofi both of them leaning on the wall, Daniel on the other side of Sofia while they waited for her to feel better after the traumatic experience she just went through.
"Nessa! Sofi! We're getting a taxi to take us to the hotel and then we're going to the airport so we can go home."
"What? Why?" Vanessa asked surprised as I walked over to help her lift Sofi up on her feet.
We have to get out of this country as soon as possible.
"Gabby you're not going anywhere!" I heard Alex's voice call out from behind me but I didn't turn to acknowledge him.
Sofi and Nessa's heads snapped up at the sound of his voice. "Alejandro?!"
"Sofia what are you doing here?" my brother ran over to our side, looking worriedly at my friend who was still looking slightly pale and weak. "Are you okay? Did something happen to you?"
"I'm fine" she choked out. "W-What are you doing here?"
He shook his head. "There's no time to explain. We need to get you girls somewhere safe."
"We're not going anywhere with any of you" I growled looking at all the men standing in front of me. "We're going back to Chicago!"
"Can someone please tell me what's going on here? Leo?" Nessa turned to her lover and walked over to take his hand.
I walked over to pull my friend away from him, Nessa looked shocked as I glared up at Leo. "DON'T YOU TOUCH MY FRIEND YOU LYING BASTARD!"
Her eyes widened and she put herself in between me and him. "Gabby calm down, you can't treat him like that! Why are you insulting him?"
My eyes snapped back to the hurt look on her face and my face softened. "They all lied to us Nessa. They're criminals!"
She looked taken aback as she glanced at the faces all around us. "W-What?"
"They are Bustamantes, they belong to the Sinaloa Cartel and they never even bothered to tell us!"
Her eyes nearly bulged out of their sockets as she took in what I just said. I turned to Leo who was looking at her, waiting to see her reaction.
"Is this true?" she whispered looking up at him.
"Yes"
She flinched away from him and pushed him away harshly, I could tell she was trying not to cry out by the way her face was in a slight grimace. He tried to reach out for her but she took a step back.
"Vanessa hear me out" he begged her.
"We have to go back home as soon as possible" she spoke to me, completely ignoring him.
"Ness--"
"Shut up, I don't want to talk to you"
Leo sighed shutting his mouth and looking away.
Sofia, who had also heard this, had no reaction since she was still a little out of it but I did notice how she put some distance between her and Daniel.
I pulled out my cell phone from my jeans and turned to Vanessa. "I'll be right back, I'm going to call and see if they can send a private cab to pick us up"
She nodded but before I could walk away to have some privacy I felt two pairs of arms on either side of me. I looked up to see two of the bodyguards; they lifted me off the floor and took me to stand right in front of Santiago and Martin.
"What the fuck! Tell them to let go!"
My brother shook his head. "No can do little sis, you girls are coming with us."
"You can't do this to me Martin! I don't want to be dragged back into this shit."
"We're just trying to protect you Gabby" Santiago smirked, nodding at his guards to put me down.
"Don't come to me with that bullshit" I said through gritted teeth. "You don't know how hard my mother and I fought to get away from this life. There's no way I'll let you assholes drag me back into this!"
"You don't know these guys like we do" he said slowly, his body tensing up. "We'll just make sure to keep you out of their radar for a while, as soon as we make sure they won't go after you we'll let you go back home. To your perfect little life."
Alex walked closer to me, throwing his arm over my shoulder. "Just listen to us for once Gabby. It's for your safety"
They do have a point. I grew up with all of this so I know for sure that the enemy will do anything to find us, they'll do anything to bribe the guys into doing whatever they want if they find out that we are important to them. If they find out I'm the daughter of Salvador Romano they'll use me to get back at my father.
"We'll do whatever you say" I gave in defeated. "Just promise to me that we'll be able to go back home as soon as this is over..."
"I promise" he smiled.
I felt a little better hearing this from Alex because I know I can trust him with anything. He would never lie to me about something like this.
Turning to look at my two friends, I smiled at them sadly. "I'm really sorry about all this."
"Don't be." Nessa shook her head. "This is not your fault ."
"Okay, I think it's time we all leave. Everyone will be riding with us, we have a lot of talking to do." Martin spoke up.
"There's too many of us!" Joel laughed smugly. "We won't fit in your little truck."
"I already called for the limo."
~*~*~*~
The ride on the limo was anything but comfortable. Sofi, Nessa and I decided to sit on one side while the rest of the guys filled up the other side of the limo. There were two black Expedition trucks escorting the limo on the front and on the back.
Everyone was silent for a long time until my brother Alex decided to break the ice by speaking up.
Stupid Alex.
"How is mom doing?" he asked, folding his arms.
I noticed Martin clench his jaw when he heard this.
"She's fine" I grumbled. "I talked to her yesterday to tell her we would be getting home tomorrow...but I guess that won't be possible."
"We'll just call her to tell her what happened, I'm sure she'll understand."
I shrugged.
"Dad will be happy to see you" he piped up excitedly.
Fuck no, that's not happening.
I griped the edge of the leather seats tightly and bit my tongue to keep myself from snapping at him. "Who said I would want to see dad? As long as you don't tell him about this he won't know I'm here."
"Why don't you want to see him?" Martin asked angrily.
"You already know why, Martin. I'm not going to talk about our fucked up family life in front of these guys." I nodded at the guys from the Sinaloa Cartel.
"Well that's too bad" he smirked evilly at me. "Because he already knows you're here..."
"How?" I asked incredulously.
"One of our guards informed him about it and he's on his way to Sinaloa."
"Sinaloa?"
"We already sent two guards to go pick up your belongings at the hotel, right now we're on our way to our private jet. We'll be flying to Sinaloa where dad and Don Ernesto will be waiting for us."
I huffed, scowling at him. "Whatever. Who is Don Ernesto?"
"That would be my father." Santiago said.
I gasped. "We're meeting the number one drug cartel leader?!"
"Yes you are sweetheart, it's your lucky day" Joel smirked at me.
I smiled at him sarcastically to which he chuckled arrogantly.
"Is little Miss. Mafia Princess mad?" he pouted teasingly.
"Don't call me that!"
"I have a question" he leaned back against the seat, crossing his arms behind his head. "Why would you give up on a life full of luxury and money?"
All the guys were looking at me expectantly, wanting to know the answer to his question.
"I want to be able to have a normal family of my own; I already went through a crappy childhood life with my father. I won't do that to my kids"
I hadn't realized I was crying until I felt Sofi brush her finger against my cheek wiping a tear away.
"Did you really hate our childhood that much?" Martin asked sounding a bit sad.
"Dad was always good to you, you were...no you ARE his little girl. He's never stopped thinking about you all these years."
"We gave him a chance" I growled. "And he chose his job over his family!"
We were pulled out of our argument when we heard a cell phone ringing. Santiago muttered a quick apology as he pulled out his cell phone from his coat pocket.
Adios." he spoke to his father with a hint of admiration and respect on his voice. From the conversation I just heard it looks like Santiago is very close to his father. (Hello?...Yes we'll be flying in Don Salvador's private jet with his sons and daughter...We're all okay, The Zetas tried to kill us but Martin and Alejandro got there on time...of course Father, we'll start planning an attack on them as soon as we get home. I want you to call in everyone for a meeting, The Gulf Cartel also have to be there...Yes Martin already told me that Don Salvador is on his way to Sinaloa...Of course...I'll see you soon...Goodbye.)
They're planning on getting back at them? That is the craziest idea ever! How do they expect to keep us on the down low if they start a war with them?
I looked at my two friends who had also listened in to the conversation and both had wary looks on their faces. They must feel so scared; this is the first time they deal with something like this. Sofi had managed to calm herself a little but you could still tell she was very overwhelmed with everything she was hearing.
The limo came to a halt and I looked out the windows to see we had arrived to a deserted area. There was no sign of life anywhere, no trees, no people, and no animals.
Nothing.
The door of the limo opened and the guys started filing out. Joel stood outside the door holding out a hand to help me out but I decided to ignore him and got out without any help.
It was still slightly dark outside so it must be around 3:00 in the morning. Sofi and Nessa got out of the limo and huddled over next to me, keeping a good amount of distance from all the guys and the bodyguards.
There was a fancy looking jet airplane parked a few meters away from us with a man which I assumed was the pilot standing outside the stairs that lead up to the entrance.
Martin walked over to speak to him and then motioned the group forward to follow him. I noticed Diego get out of one of the black trucks and he walked over to us, I thought he might be coming over to talk to us but he just motioned us to walk ahead of him while he and another guard walked behind us.
"Welcome ladies" the pilot did a small curtsey.
He put out his hand to help us up the stairs which I took gladly, I'll take his hand over Joel's any day!
"Oh my God!" both Nessa and Sofi gasped in awe as soon as we reached the top.
Alex laughed at their reaction. "Nice isn't it?"
Vanessa walked over to one of the leather seats and ran a hand over it. "This is so fancy! Oh and look, it has a small TV screen in the seat in front of you!"
I had to admit the jet is absolutely nice, I felt very important just by being in it. All of the guys except for Alex had already claimed a seat and were watching the girls and me with amused looks.
I kept my face with a blank stare so they wouldn't have the satisfaction of seeing my real reaction.
"You girls can take a seat anywhere you want, we'll be taking off in a few minutes." Martin informed us.
I hurried over to one of the seats in the very back and sat down in the seat next to the window. Nessa and Sofi took a seat in the row across from me and marveled over all the stuff around them, they were both giggling excitedly as they pressed random buttons on the leather seats.
"Do you girls want anything to drink?" Martin and Alex walked over to us with water bottles in hand.
"Ou! Yes please" Nessa reached out to grab one.
Sofi grabbed one too and muttered a quick thanks.
"What about you Gabby?" Alex smiled offering me water.
"No, thanks"
"C'mon baby sister you can have anything you want this plane belongs to our family, therefore it belongs to you too." Martin smiled at me.
"I don't want anything from dad or you guys" I grumbled
He took a seat next to me and wrapped his arm around my shoulder, it's been a long time since I last saw my big brother so I couldn't help myself from laying my head on his chest.
"I missed you so much big brother" I whispered, closing my eyes and enjoying the embrace. Mom would give anything to be in my place right now.
"Me too Gabbster, you have no idea." he said calling me by the nickname he gave me when I was just a little kid.
"Want to know something cool?"
"What?" I asked, looking up at him.
"This plane is named after you, dad decided to name it Gabriela. The name is engraved on the left side of the plane."
"Really?"
He nodded. "He misses you and mom , he's always thinking of you two. So when you see him could you please treat him nicely? He's been a little sick so we don't want him to get worse..."
My dad has been sick? Oh my God, how come they didn't give me a call to let me know?
"Is he okay? Has he seen a doctor?" I couldn't help feeling worried.
Martin patted my back reassuringly. "He's going to be fine, the doctor said it's all due to stress and work. I'm in charge of the business now so he won't have to worry about anything."
"Good" I sighed.
A yawn escaped my lips and I glanced up to see Nessa and Sofi were already in deep sleep. My brother started humming a tune just like he did when I was a five years old, he had been pretty mature for his age and every time I was upset about something he would hum a little tune to put me to sleep.
"Go to sleep Gabriela, I'll wake you up when we're about to land." he closed his eyes
I felt a pair of eyes staring at me and I knew it wasn't Martin. I tried to open my eyes so I could find out who it was but my eyes felt heavy. Everything was quiet as I was pulled into a blissful sleep.
~*~*~*~
"Gabby! Gabby! Gabriela"
I woke with a groan, opening my eyes to see Martin grinning down at me. I sat up and looked around to see we were the only ones on the plane. I began to panic standing up quickly looking around for my friends.
"Where's everyone?" I yelled .
He put a hand on my shoulder. "Calm down. Everyone is already off the plane, they're outside waiting for us."
"Why didn't you wake me up!" I cried hoarsely.
"I didn't want to wake you up, you looked really tired."
He helped me up to my feet and started leading me to the exit; I followed behind him quietly until I remembered who would be waiting for me outside. I froze mid step and grabbed a hold of his jacket making him stumble and almost trip.
"What the heck?" he turned back to glare at me.
"He's here. He's waiting outside, isn't he?" I choked out, my breathing picking up fast. I felt my heart hammering against my chest. I'm seeing my father again, after five long years.
"Gabby relax. Yes he's here; he can't wait to see you. I bet he's panicking even worse than you are!"
I closed my eyes and took a deep breath to calm myself. He walked ahead of me and as soon as we reached the stairs he hooked his arm tightly around mine to keep me from falling down.
I glued my eyes to the floor, feeling too scared to even glance up and look around for him. I could only see everyone else's shoes but we soon came to a stop in front of a pair of fancy-black lace up shoes.
"She's here dad." Martin spoke. "Gabby look up!"
I lifted my head slowly to meet a pair of dark-brown tear filled eyes. Eyes identical to mine. My vision started getting blurry and I blinked away the tears, his face looked the same as it did when I left with my mom . There were a few extra wrinkles here and there but other than that he looked like the same man, the same man that showed me how to ride a bicycle, the same man that showed me how to swim, the same man that would read me a bed time story...the same man I used to call daddy.
He raised his hand up and I stood frozen as I watched him reach out slowly to stroke my cheek, he seemed to relax as soon as he saw I didn't flinch away.
"M-Mi Gabriela" my father chocked out in a voice full of sorrowful emotion. "Mi princessa..." (My Gabriela. My princess.)
