"UNHAND ME BEAST!" I roared, stumbling around my room.

I shook my circulation-deprived arms in the air, struggling to escape, until finally my fingers became free of my tangled hair.

I sighed angrily. Yelling at my hair at eight in the morning on my winter break was definitely the opposite of what I had in mind. According to my very detailed schedule, I should have been in bed for at least another good five hours.

Deciding that I couldn't tame my hair, and trust me it was a very difficult realization to accept after the entire seventeen years it had spent atop my head, I pulled out my hair tie, letting my brown wavy hair cascade down to my belly button.

I hastily grabbed my phone and shoved it into a small clutch, before running down the stairs as I heard Landon's car honk five times in a row.

His patience only ran up to about fifteen seconds. I strongly believed it was due to the correlation of the wait time for his video games' load screens.

I yelled a goodbye behind me at the quiet empty house as I closed the door and faced the icy air which instantly bit into my face.

Zipping up my hoodie, I made my way to Landon's flashy red convertible that his parents had bought him for his sixteenth birthday. They were both brain surgeons, so it wasn't a big deal for them to spend that much on their son.

But I guess you could say I was slightly jealous...

I jumped over the door and dropped down just in time as Landon sped down the road.

Like I said, no patience.

"You guys are inconsiderate sadists." I grumbled to all my friends, looking out the window and pouting, not bothering with greetings.

"Lovely morning, baby blue." Landon greeted at me with a smile that was way too wide. He chuckled at me, using the nick-name he had always used ever since we were children.

I glared at the guy that had been my best friend since we were in diapers. Literally. We were basically best-friend goals. Not to sound too cheesy, but he was practically my other half, as I was his. One time in third grade, Landon had thrown the biggest tantrum at the teachers for not putting us in the same class, and he had ended up switching into my class, don't ask me how... Sure I had other friends, but none were as close to me as Landon. And just to add on, there were no romantic feelings or sexual tensions between us, quite the opposite actually, contrary to every girl's middle-school fantasy.

"That should be our gang's name, Inconsiderate Sadists, right Landy?" Jess grinned at Landon and I from the backseat.

Jess was one of the few girls I actually liked in our school. I know I sound like a total grinch, but I guess it was the fact that I never really got along with anyone. Everyone already had their different groups or cliques I guess you could say, but I never really fit in to any of them. Sure I had Landon since day one as a friend, but I had been lucky to find Jess, someone who I could actually watch chick flicks with and be all girly.

I glanced in the rearview mirror and saw her shaking her head at me teasingly.

"Piss off." I pouted, but not before giving her a knowing smile.

"That's the opposite of what you want, attention-whore." Katy muttered under her breath, sounding annoyed with my overall presence.

Katy, my lovely dear friend, was Landon's current side dish. I may love that boy to death, but what I could never stand was how he always had a different girl clinging to his arm every week. Because of him and the proximity of our friendship, I had to constantly put up with crazy girls trying to run me over in the school parking lot, if not that then mean girls trying to bully me, if not that then heart-broken girls trying to steal Landon's baby, and if not that then all of the above.

"Don't start with me barbie." I warned her, looking out the window. She was the mean girl type. Or actually all of the above.

I would love to be at home rather than being harassed by Godzilla the Barbie, but I loved my friends and I also knew that there was no way I was getting out of this plan. Especially since it was Landon's idea.

One time Landon even dragged me with him to go buy toilet paper, even though it was in the middle of the night, and I had been sleeping in my house. You could say I was surprised when I woke up in a Walmart cart being pushed by him.

"Landon! Tell your pet to shut up and leave me alone!" She whined harder than my two year old cousin Bill. Poor little Bill.

I craned my neck to bare my teeth at her, causing her to shut up.

Before I could roar at the girl, Jess squealed "We're here!" and was the first to jump out of the car with far too much excitement.

I sighed warily, before stumbling out of the car.

As we all walked into the mall together, I was grateful for the heaters which embraced us as soon as we stepped in.

"Let's start at Abercrombie!" Jess squealed, pointing in the direction of the shop since it was only a few meters away.

"I'm gonna grab a smoothie from Orange Julius guys." I called out, my stomach growling in hunger. I hadn't had time to grab anything to eat this morning.

"Fat-ass." Katy muttered, trying to pick a fight with me again. I think she truly hates me with a passion. Probably because of the fact that I had 'accidentally' poured a cup of fruit punch down her dress at the Winter Dance. I still blame her for provoking me by throwing a shoe at my head. It was a long story... Good thing we got over it and are now BFFs.

Landon opened his mouth to defend me, but I beat him to it.

"Flat-ass." I retorted. I saw Jess trying to hold back a snicker while Landon full on laughed at my smart comeback.

Katy just shot me a dirty look, not having a good enough comeback, before turning to Jess. "Are we going to shop or are we just gonna stand here?"

"You girls head on. I'm just gonna tag along with Sky." Landon declared quickly before he could get dragged into the store with the two girls.

"Oh no you don't! I need your opinion on what Brian would like on our date tonight." Jess said perkily as she grabbed Landon's arm and pulled him towards the store.

"How the hell am I supposed to know what he likes? I don't spend all my days staring at him and observing him unlike you." Landon argued, but it was pointless.

I chuckled at my two best friends and walked over to the smoothie bar. After ordering a strawberry shake, my regular, I paid the girl working there.

The girl had a look of exhaustion on her face as she handed me my change and smoothie, turning around, ignoring my 'thanks'. I lifted the cup to my mouth, loudly slurping on my straw and watching her turn around with an annoyed expression.

"Thank you." I repeated louder and shot her a wide smile, before turning around and taking my time as I slowly walked to the shop, blissfully sipping my smoothie.

I looked up from my delicious smoothie, and all of a sudden my eyes landed on the most gorgeous man I had ever seen. I kid you not.

I made sure my eyes weren't playing tricks on me. They tend to do that a lot.

He was really attractive, so attractive that I noticed every other girl in the vicinity was practically drooling over him.

And no, this wasn't me over exaggerating, he really was gorgeous.

He had silky dark hair that was gelled up in a messy, sexy way, and was tempting me to just run up to it and tackle it with my fingers. I could see he had a muscular body, from his tight black t shirt. His denim jeans hung the perfect type of low, fitting him nicely.

As if noticing me checking him out, his bright green eyes flickered to my own.

Woah... His eyes were utterly gorgeous.

I forced myself not to freak out, and mentally kicked myself at my sappy behavior. But nonetheless, I felt my cheeks heat up a bit, from getting caught staring.

Then, he did something that could've killed me. He gave me a heart stopping boyish smirk that deserves to be on the cover of Vogue magazine.

I fought the urge to look away and bravely held his gaze. Gosh I sound so pathetic.

He's nothing special. He's just another one of those good looking, bodybuilding, Greek god men. Calm your hormones.

As if the situation couldn't get any more intense, he started walking towards me.

I was too much in a trance to question his actions. This guy obviously was performing some sort of sorcery.

I nervously gulped, finding it impossible to look away now.

My grip tightened on my strawberry smoothie, afraid I might drop it. I held in a breath as he stopped right in front of me.

I watched as his gorgeous eyes roamed over my body slowly. I felt quite agitated and assaulted as the stranger/spell-caster/Greek god checked me out.

But I couldn't bring myself to slap him. Or even simply tell him off. My brain had turned to mush and my heart was racing, enjoying his undivided attention. Had my brain been functioning normally today, I would have kneed his crown jewels and given him a lecture on respecting women, but I was too mesmerized by him. What kind of dark magic was this!?

When his eyes finally came back up to my own, he gave me a satisfied smirk, mischief dancing in his eyes, and did the unimaginable. The unexpected.

No it wasn't something magical and amazing like I was expecting. This wasn't a Disney movie. What he did next was terrifying.

Without warning, the stranger suddenly grabbed my arm before I could react and yanked me into his muscled chest.

I opened my mouth in protest, even though I didn't see what was so bad about being pressed up against his six pack, I still didn't know him.

"WHAT THE FU--" He cut me off as he jabbed something cold against my temple.

I froze. I could tell what it was from all the other people around us with horrified expressions on their faces. From their loud shrieking.

Even the smoothie girl looked wide awake and alarmed.

My body was shaking uncontrollably, my heart racing in fear. He bent his head and spoke into my ear.

"How's it going beautiful? So here's what the plan is. I'm going to guide us out of here and you're going to listen and follow. You seem pretty nice and I don't want to hurt you. But just know that I won't hesitate if you try anything." His words were authoritative and calming, laced with a threatening undertone.

Although his little villain ploy sounded too cliché and funny, I nervously gulped.

"Alright?" He put more pressure on the gun, causing me to squirm.

I inhaled a shaky breath and nodded slowly. I could feel my heart beating twice its speed, and this time it was from fear.

"Good. Now stop shaking, I won't hurt you." He said calmly.

Kind of hard to believe when you have a gun against me...

"Everybody, get down." The guy said calmly. "Now!" He yelled, and everyone seemed to break out of their trance and obeyed his orders.

I watched as people scattered all around the floor, lying down and covering their heads in fear. Although it was still quite early, there were about ten to twelve people around. I noticed an older man slyly pulling his phone out and dialing the cops.

I really doubted they'd even get here on time, considering how terrible their response time was around this area.

"Skylar?" I heard Landon's scared voice call out from the midst of it all.

I looked up as I saw him walking towards me. My fear slightly went down and I felt less panicked as I saw him in front of me.

"Stay back!" The guy said, pointing his gun in Landon's direction.

No. He couldn't hurt Landon.

"Sky!" Landon cried as he kept walking, looking scared, yet determined.

"You really want to get shot?" My captor asked him in a light tone.

"Landon." I let out in a mere whisper, tears burning my eyes.

His eyes met mine again and I saw fear and shock in them. Yet he was so brave right now. My heart longed to be safe in his arms.

"Let her go." Landon said sternly, but I could see his fists shaking.

"That's not really up to you. I'm the one here with the gun. So why don't you smarten up a little and get down like I said." The guy said, gesturing with his gun to where everyone was lying on the floor.

I heard a whimper and looked at the ground a few meters away to see Jess lying down on her stomach, along with the others. She looked so helpless and scared, I felt the need to comfort her.

I held her gaze, trying to reassure her with a small, shaky smile. I don't know how I managed it.

"Sky--" Landon started, causing me to snap my head to him.

"Get down!" The guy yelled as he raised his gun to Landon's face, his finger poised on the trigger.

"No!" I screamed, my heart racing as I violently started struggling and kicking.

But he was too strong. He simply ignored me and I heard the click of the safety come off. My eyes widened.

I desperately looked around for a plan. Anything to stop this. A light bulb went off in my head as I glanced down at my smoothie which I had still managed to keep in my hold. Before I could think it through, I took one last sip of my smoothie for a little power-up, before ripping the lid off with my teeth and whipping the cup behind me, onto my captor's face.

He spluttered in shock and his hold on me loosened slightly. I used that as an opportunity to kick him in the shins from behind, then getting out of his grasp while he was occupied getting smoothie out of his eyes and cursing.

"Skylar!" Landon yelled and I ran towards him. My heart thudded loudly in my chest. A small feeling of hope grew inside as I got closer and closer to safety. Time seemed to slow down and everything seemed silent as I tried to reach him.

He had his arms extended towards me, running to me as well.

I was two steps away from Landon's safe, comforting, open arms, when I felt a strong arm wrap around my waist. I was suddenly jerked back and time seemed to speed up again. Right at that moment, that small feeling of hope disappeared in a flash, leaving me feeling scared and helpless.

"Run! Run Landon!" I yelled, as I was dragged back, tears streaming down my face now. If I couldn't save myself, I had to at least make sure my best friend would be fine.

"Skylar!" He yelled out as he started his way towards me again.

"Take one more step and I'll pop her head off." My captor's cold, heartless voice suddenly threatened, causing my stomach to drop in fear and Landon to freeze in his spot.

"I'll be fine!" I yelled through tears, trying to reassure him. The kidnapper was dragging me back towards the entrance now, anxious to get out before the cops showed up.

"Stop right there!" A loud voice barked and I looked up to see about four mall security guys surrounding the kidnapper and I, guns pointed at the kidnapper.

A feeling of hope grew within as I held my breath.

"Take one more step towards me and I'll shoot her right now!" The kidnapper barked aggressively, backing towards the doors and almost there.

I struggled in his grasp, trying to get away still but he held me secure against him.

One of the mall cops made eye contact with me and I could see the pure terror and apology in his eyes. They really couldn't do anything at this point... I was too close to the kidnapper for them to risk shooting him.

The kidnapper pulled us backward and I met Landon's eyes again, his face covered in tears.

"I swear, I will come for you Sky. I swear on my life that I will find you. I'll make sure you'll be safe. I will okay?" Landon promised, sincerity and determination seeping through his words. I looked into his eyes that held so much promise, it made me feel slightly better in the moment.

I held back more tears, since I knew he wouldn't be able to find me. Since I had a strong feeling that this would be the last time I'd ever see him.

"Let's go." The kidnapper said softly, before grabbing my arm and walking out the doors with me. I hung my head low, letting the tears come out more rapidly as my kidnapper walked us to a black shiny truck.

I got in the passenger seat, still struggling even though we both knew I'd never be able to escape.

He started the engine and sped away quickly. As we were driving down the road, I saw five police cars heading the opposite way. A small thread of hope grew in me as we drew nearer.

I tried discreetly waving at them, trying to get their attention, but they were driving too fast to catch a glimpse. They just sped down to the mall, expecting me to still be there.

I curled up into a ball, looking out the window, crying softly.

"Listen, Skylar right?" I heard the gentle tone of my kidnapper speak, after a while.

I looked up slightly.

He was covered in strawberry smoothie, and I couldn't help but think, the strawberry looked way better on him, than in the cup.

I'm pretty sure my mind had started to turn crazy. I mean, any girl who thinks that her kidnapper that nearly blew her brain to bits looks sexy covered in a strawberry smoothie, should be locked away.

I bit my tongue from saying that aloud, and nodded cautiously instead.

"Skylar, I know you're probably wondering who I am and why I'm doing this." The guy said.

I couldn't help but roll my eyes.

My sarcastic bitter side was making an appearance. That tended to happen in situations where I felt defenseless or helpless.

"What?" He questioned.

"What?" I answered back.

"You rolled your eyes. Why?" He asked.

I gave him an unladylike snort.

"I'm thinking of anything but you." I grumbled.

I looked over at his confused face and realized what I had just said.

My eyes widened as I quickly put a hand over my mouth.

The bitterness has arrived...

"Um, well you just got kidnapped..." He trailed off.

Oh really? I thought this was just a fun game of cops and robbers!

"Well, most people would be freaking out right now and wondering who I am and why I kidnapped them out of the blue." He spoke slowly, as if I had a slow brain.

"Well, I'd rather not think about my death that's just minutes away. I'd like to enjoy my last few minutes in peace if you don't mind." I replied coldly.

He just stared at me and then started laughing. He started laughing! What the hell is wrong with this guy? Oh right, criminals do become psycho from time to time.

"I'm not gonna hurt you." He said after he had sobered up. "I'm harmless." He added after.

"Says the guy that held me at gunpoint just five minutes ago." I couldn't help but retort.

Obviously I didn't believe him, and I knew there was really no hope left so why hold back on my crude insults? I wasn't going to just sit back quietly like good ol' Sally and let him drive us towards my death in silence.

"The gun wasn't even loaded, calm down." He spoke.

"Right." I said skeptically. "What idiot brings a gun to an abduction scene and doesn't load bullets to defend himself?" I asked sarcastically.

Suddenly, he pulled over onto the side of the road. Oh great. Now you really pushed him.

Wait... We're stopped... Yes! My chance to escape! My heart fluttered in excitement.

But all hope was crushed when I found out the door was locked.

I cursed.

I tried pulling the lock up manually, but it was jammed.

Goodbye hope. Goodbye world. Goodbye life.

"Want proof?" He asked me, not seeming fazed by my failed attempts at escaping. He pulled out the gun he had used earlier and looked at me.

I gasped.

"No no! I believe you I believe you!" I cried.

Just act normal and he won't kill you. Even though he's completely psychotic and doesn't realize it.

He chuckled. "No you don't."

He then raised it up to his head.

I looked at him confused.

I heard the safety click off. He positioned his finger on the trigger.

Really? He goes through all this trouble to kidnap me, and then in the end commits suicide? What was this guy on?

But I smiled inwardly as I realized I was going to be free! I plugged my ears as his finger pulled the trigger.

Nothing.

Nothing happened.

He pulled it again. And again and again and again.

Each time he pulled the trigger, a strand of hope was torn down from inside me. Not a single bullet went off.

He hadn't been lying, the gun wasn't loaded. He wasn't planning on killing me just yet!

But that didn't mean I trusted him now.

"Okay... Now that I know I'm not gonna die, why did you kidnap me?" I asked him cautiously.

"You'll find out soon." Was all he said.

"Wait, then why do you even have a gun if it's not even loaded?" I asked.

"It's not even mine." He said, a scowl taking over his gorgeous face.

Even scowls looked sexy on him! Too bad he was a convict. It was like my fantasies of John Dillinger. He was charmingly handsome but definitely not emotionally available.

I was about to question further on, when I decided against it, noticing a dangerous glint in his eyes.

"Put this on." He suddenly said, handing me a red silky strip, not taking his eyes off the windshield.

I gave him a confused look.

"It's a blindfold." He explained.

I shook my head. "What if I don't want to?" I snapped. Now that I knew that he had no weapon to use on me, my confidence returned.

"You're not going to want to do a lot of things now, so I suggest you get used to it." He said coldly.

"Go screw yourself." I spat.

Okay. Probably not the smartest thing to say, but now I knew he wasn't going to shoot me!

He let out a long breath and glanced out the window with an icy glare.

"Put on the blindfold." He spoke in a cold tone that would've made little kids cry.

I stared at him in confusion, not getting this guy at all.

But I slipped it on without a word, not wanting to find out what would happen if I disobeyed the angry kidnapper.

Suddenly, I was enveloped in darkness, as I tied it behind my head. I felt the car jerk forward, and then speed down the road that I could no longer see.

The rest of the ride was spent in silence.

After thirty-two minutes, I had been counting the seconds, the car came to a smooth stop. I heard my kidnapper's door open, then slam shut. After a few seconds, I felt a gush of cold air hit me from my side as my door opened.

My kidnapper's warm hands grabbed my arms and helped me out.

I could still run, but the problem was, I wouldn't be able to see where I was going, and most likely would trip, fall, and hurt myself more than my kidnapper could.

I tried reaching up to undo the blindfold to try and sprint anyways but I heard the car door shut and my kidnapper's footsteps go behind me. A moment later, I felt his hands roughly grip my sides.

I squirmed around, trying to get out of his strong grasp, but of course, me being that one student in gym class that couldn't complete five proper push-ups, failed. Another idea came to mind.

"Stop squirming." His deep voice grumbled in my ear.

Ignoring his demand, I opened my mouth. "RAPE!" I yelled frantically, hoping to get someone's attention. If there even was anyone around.

"Shut up will you!" He yelled, sounding worried. Which meant there were people around!

"HELP! SOMEONE PL--" My plea was cut off as I felt my kidnapper's hand cover my mouth.

Without thinking, I stuck my tongue out.

"Gross!" He suddenly yelled, before letting go.

I grinned in victory, before opening my mouth to start screaming.

"Try something like that again and I will knock you out and make you regret it." His tone suddenly turned harsh and scary, causing me to shut up.

His hands returned to my sides as he guided me forward.

"Don't touch me." I grumbled.

"Is that really up to you now?" He asked.

I let out an annoyed sigh.

I heard him let out a chuckle. Sociopath...

Then, he stepped away from me, placing a hand on my back instead.

So he did have some respect for women.

We started walking ahead.

After twenty-nine and a half steps, yeah I counted, we came to a stop. I heard my kidnapper shuffle around, and then heard a click, followed by the sound of a door opening.

He led us inside, and I was suddenly surrounded by warmth. My best guess was that we were inside an apartment.

After a few twists and turns, we stopped. I heard keys jingling. A moment later, I heard him unlocking a door, and then opening it.

"Welcome to my crib. Hope you enjoy your stay princess, it's going to be a long one." The kidnapper whispered, his tone holding a cynical edge to it.

I gulped as I realized I was being led into a kidnapper's apartment as he undid the blindfold covering my eyes.

Reality hit me hard.

All at once, the panic, shock, and fear hit me like a high five.

In the face.

With a bus.

Filled with hippos.
