LOVE THE BANNER FROM, ONCE AGAIN, @ethnicallyconfused. I absolutely adore it, thank you!
I quickly put the cell phone back onto the table as I heard footsteps emerging from the kitchen.
"For you, your highness." Nathan said dryly, making me look up innocently to see him holding out a plate of grilled cheese for me.
I rolled my eyes and took it. "Thank you, peasant." I saw him scowl at me before turning back to the movie. It was currently at the part where Buddy's dad was bailing him out of jail.
"And for you my good sir." Nathan said now to Dustin who giggled and took his grilled cheese with a thank you.
After Nathan came back with his own plate of grilled cheese, the three of us continued to watch the movie, laughing every five minutes. No matter how many times I'd watched this movie, it still got a good laugh out of me.
After about half an hour, a loud groan from our right caused us to turn and see Max's head slowly moving.
"Nathan. How many times do I have to tell you... You need to stop knocking people out with those damn gadgets of yours." He growled, before blinking a few times and then noticing his tied up hands.
I turned to shoot Nathan an unimpressed look.
He simply shrugged. "Well now that you're finally awake, we should start talking." Nathan said, switching off the TV.
"Hey!" Dustin and I protested at the same time.
"You guys can watch this later, right now we have some important stuff to discuss." Nathan explained, giving us both a stern look.
"Alright which dead man tied me up!?" Tyler growled, now wide awake too.
I gulped and looked to Nathan for help.
"Your own blood that's who." Nathan quickly ratted me out.
Oh he was gonna pay for that...
Tyler turned his head towards me slowly with a scary glare.
"Oh come on, he's the one who told me to do it! Plus, might I remind you that he's also the one who knocked you all out." I defended, smirking at Nathan after.
"Yeah man, what was the point of that?" Landon groaned out, only now coming into consciousness.
"Because you were all fighting like a bunch of girls." Dustin explained simply, causing the room to grow silent.
"That's still no reason to knock us out!" Landon protested.
"Yeah man, not cool." Jordan agreed with Landon.
"Okay whatever, sorry I knocked you out. Happy? Now can we all shut up and listen to me? Or am I gonna have to gag you guys too." Nathan gave them each a long stern look.
After a lot of glaring, flaring nostrils and rolling eyes, the four boys sighed and agreed to Nathan.
"Good. Now. Tomorrow is a big day for us. So we have to make sure we all know what to expect. Let's go over this one last time." Nathan said, capturing everyone's attention. Well, everyone's except mine and Max's. I was currently mocking Nathan since I was still sitting on the sofa with his standing back to me, while Max was trying to make the weirdest faces when Nathan's eyes were not on him. I blame the fact that Nathan sounded too much like my chemistry teacher right now.
"So, the first step. We knock out Ryland's guards. I double checked with Ryland and he's taking along four of them. Anyways, after we knock three--" Nathan was cut off by a loud knock on the door.
"I got it!" I exclaimed, getting up and rushing to the door with excitement.
I was scared they weren't gonna show up.
I opened the door, smiling up at Cody and Brunette-boy. I still had to find out the latter's name.
"Glad you could make it." I beamed up at them.
"Can we come in? I don't wanna get caught by Ryland." Brunette-boy looked agitated as he looked around the empty hallways cautiously.
"You're safe here." I reassured them both, before stepping aside and letting them in.
"What the-- Skylar what the hell is this?" Nathan asked me angrily, marching up to the two and staring them down.
"Hey, it's okay, they're cool. Just let me explain." I said, looking up at Nathan pleadingly.
"They're cool?" Nathan gave me a heated look, glancing at the two guys before pulling me to the side and lowering his voice. "Are you trying to sabotage our plan?"
"No, I'm not. Please, just let me explain. Just trust me on this." I said softly now.
Nathan stared at the two boys, then at me, before letting out a frustrated sigh. Running a hand through his hair in anger, Nathan spun around to go take a seat on the couch.
I took that as a yes. Giving Cody and Brunette boy a reassuring smile, I walked back to the living room and motioned them to stand with me now in front of the four tied up boys.
The two looked at the ropes around them with confusion, but didn't question.
"Alright, I'll just pick up from where Nathan left off." I started, looking back at Nathan nervously. I hoped he'd be happy with this. I really didn't want to kick these two out of the plan like that. I had the perfect thing planned for them.
"So, like Nathan said, we need to knock out four guards so we can have you three fill in. The fourth spot can go to Cody here." I said, looking up at him with a small smile.
"We'll be flying out to this building where Ryland keeps Nathan's sister locked up--" I was cut off by Nathan.
"Hey, can you not tell these two about--" Nathan started but I cut him off.
"It is also the building where Ryland keeps a family member of Cody and brunette-boy." I added, looking at the two.
"How did you--" Cody started in confusion.
"I guessed. I mean that's why you two took this job, you both seem pretty capable, but not ruthless enough to be looking for a job like this. So Ryland must have forced you two into this by taking away someone close to you." I explained with a knowing smirk.
"Brunette-boy...?" Brunette-boy wondered out loud to himself.
"That's very sad and all, but I'm only in this so we can get Nathan his sister back, fix this whole mess, and then go back home." Tyler said with a serious look. "I didn't sign up to bust out every other person in there." Tyler added.
"Actually, you don't even need to worry about that. Having Cody come along with you is a plus. First of all, he's one of the guards that Ryland was planning on bringing with him to that place. Second, Cody knows the building since he's had to work in there before. And third, I bet he can knock out everyone's ass if he's fit to be Ryland's guard." I finished smugly, feeling like a genius.
"I don't remember telling you--" Cody started, but I cut him off.
"That's because you didn't. Let's just say that I found some useful information on Nathan's phone." I said with a grin. I was totally feeling like a boss right now.
When Nathan had been making the grilled cheese sandwiches, I had found his phone lying around so I decided to explore it. After finding a conversation between him and Alvin, I had found a text all about Cody. But I hadn't been able to find anything on brunette boy.
"You snooped around on my phone?" Nathan asked me with a raised brow. He didn't sound mad, just surprised and a bit amused.
"Hey, I have my rights. I'm your girlfriend." I raised my hands defensively.
Nathan just scoffed at me.
"So as I was saying. Once we break Hana out, Cody can find his brother and then we can get out and call the police to arrest Ryland and his men." I finished with a smug look with my arms crossed.
"Nice plan and all, but even if I do say yes, how would I find him? I mean it's a pretty big building and I won't know exactly where he keeps him locked up." Cody countered.
"He should probably be near by where they keep Nathan's sister." I shrugged. "If not, we could always do the thing that Batman does when he needs to get answers out of bad guys." I suggested.
"I don't know about this Skylar..." Cody gave me a skeptical look, similar to the one on brunette boy's face.
"Don't you want freedom? Don't you want your brother back and to be able to live without fear again?" I asked him softly.
I watched as his expression softened, but that quickly left after a while as his eyes suddenly hardened. "I don't fear anything. I'd rather play it safe and stick to my deal with Ryland. Because if this plan fails, my brother dies. And I am not willing to risk that." Cody said in a firm tone, his eyes never leaving mine.
I looked at him desperately. "But this plan won't fail--" I tried reasoning, but was cut off.
"You don't know that. You don't know how powerful Ryland is. I can keep my mouth shut and won't get in your way, but I won't be a part of this plan." Cody said, and with that, he turned around and left out the door, leaving me speechless.
The room was now silent as I felt everyone's eyes on me. Waiting for my reaction. After basically being told that my plan wouldn't work, I felt like jumping in a dark hole and never coming out. But I knew that wasn't an option. I had come this far and I refused to start doubting myself now. I had promised myself that I'd get Nathan his sister back and I sure as hell wasn't backing out of it.
My thoughts were cut short as a pair of shoes entered my vision. I looked up to see brunette-boy looking at me with a sad expression.
"Hey, don't listen to Cody. He's just generally a negative guy." Brunette boy tried to reassure me with a small smile. "Cody may not help you out with this, but I'm willing to." He told me with promise in his eyes. Kindness and caring radiated off of him and he just made you feel like you could trust him, like he wouldn't let you down. Like a big brunette teddy bear.
I managed to smile and nod at him weakly. "So, who did Ryland take from you?" I couldn't help but ask him.
He just looked at me with a sad smile, pain reflecting in his eyes. "Let's save that story for another time." He finally said. "I should probably go now, I don't want to get anyone suspicious." He added, starting to walk backwards. "If there's anything I can do to help you out, just tell me." He shot me one last smile, before turning around and walking out.
"Wait!" I called out, walking towards him.
He stopped to turn around and waited.
"You never told me your name." I said.
He gave me a small smile. "Austin." He simply said, before walking out the door and leaving.
I turned back around to face everyone. Without wasting any more time, I started talking. "Well, we didn't really need Cody anyways. Sorry for wasting your time." I apologized, before walking over to the couch and taking a seat. I could feel a pair of eyes on me and looked up to see Nathan staring at me with concern.
"You could continue." I told him, almost pleadingly, before looking down.
"You didn't waste our time princess, it helps." Nathan spoke softly to me, before turning back around and continuing to talk.
My love for him only grew. If it even was love. I was pretty sure it was.
"Since Cody knows about the plan now, we won't really need to knock him out. Plus, this way Ryland won't get suspicious on the lack of guards he has." Nathan started. "So once we get to the airport, we can drag the suitcase in which Skylar's going to be stuffed in, and find the closest looking air hostess to Skylar and knock her out." Nathan explained. "But without actually hurting her." He added sternly.
"How do you plan on doing that then?" Max asked curiously.
"Don't worry about it." Nathan simply said with a smirk. "So after we swap their outfits, Skylar boards the plane as an air hostess, along with the rest of us. Once we all land there, we'll have to sneak Skylar into the car somehow. From there, we get to the destination and pull Hana out and escape." Nathan finished with a smile.
Everyone stared at Nathan with approval and agreed that the plan was good.
"So, can you untie us now?" Landon asked Nathan.
"Skylar can do that, I gotta go set up the dinner table." Nathan said, shooting me a smirk, before walking towards the kitchen.
I sighed, before getting up and walking towards the four tied up boys. Hmm, where to start...
"Hey Skylar, you look really pretty today." Max said to me, catching me off guard.
I looked to see his overly-large smile and realized soon that his compliment was only for his own sake. Deciding to play along, I smiled at him brightly. "Awe, thanks Max." I gushed, before walking over to Landon and starting to untie his hands.
Max looked at me shocked, before glaring at me.
"Haha! Best-friends always come first." Landon grinned at Max, before sticking his tongue out immaturely, causing me to laugh.
"It's not your face on her shirt now is it?" Max retorted smugly.
"Well my face is permanently inked onto her skin forever." Landon smirked, causing me to give him a look.
"You tattooed his face on yourself!?" Max exclaimed, sounding hurt and shocked.
"No, gross." I cringed at Landon, walking over to Max and freeing him of his binds next.
"Not yet is what she means." Landon clarified.
"I'd tattoo your face on my arm Sky." Max spoke proudly.
"Please don't ever do that." I looked at him with disgust.
"Hey Sky. I really appreciate having you as a sister." Tyler said to me from my right, thick sarcasm dripping from his words as he looked down at his tied wrists.
"Hey Landon, wanna untie Jordan there for me?" I asked Landon with a smile, pretending I hadn't heard Tyler.
"Sure thing!" He replied cheerily, before walking over to Jordan and starting to untie his wrists.
I shot Tyler a smug look, causing him to glare back at me.
After Landon and I had untied Max and Jordan, we all started to walk off to help Nathan.
"Ha-ha. Very funny. Now could someone please untie me?" Tyler called out to us.
I looked at Landon just as he looked at me. "DIBS NOT ME!" We both yelled at the same time, before running to the kitchen and away from a yelling Tyler, the others' footsteps quick to follow.
Max, Landon, Dustin, Jordan, and I all laughed as we entered the kitchen where Nathan was cooking something.
"Mmm. Smells good." I said, my nose inhaling the delicious smell of stuffed turkey and mashed potatoes.
My boyfriend had truly impressive skills in all areas. He was definitely a keeper.
"When will it be ready?" Max asked his younger brother, looking over his shoulder to see what he was cooking on the stove.
"I'm starving'." Jordan pitched in.
"It will be ready when you both shut up and walk away." Nathan replied.
"I hate it when you say that." Jordan groaned, causing me to laugh.
"Can I have a bite?" Max asked now, stepping closer to Nathan as he calmly continued his artistic style of cooking.
"Come at me bro." Nathan stopped to give Max a challenging and heated look.
I watched as the two brothers had a stare off, before Max sighed and stepped away from Nathan again. Probably due to the fact that he was holding a large knife in his hand.
"Hey, you're his girlfriend. Maybe you could steal some for us." Jordan said suddenly, turning to me with a hopeful expression.
Before I could respond, Nathan let out a scoff. "Won't make a difference."
I glared at the side of his head, before eyeing a dishcloth on the counter and grinning slowly. "You sure about that?" I asked Nathan with a smug look.
He turned to me briefly with a smug look of his own. "You have nothing to use against me, so--" He started, but couldn't finish since my signature battle cry cut him off as I ran towards him, grabbing the dish cloth I had seen earlier, and tackling him to the ground.
"Wow, you guys are way too impatient and excessive about everything." Dustin said, causing Nathan and I to freeze and look up at the kid. Even Landon, Max and Jordan stopped laughing to look at him.
Shaking his head at our behavior, Dustin turned around and left the kitchen.
The room was left in a weird silence, but that was only for a few seconds, before I yelled in Nathan's face, trying to gag him while he tried to flip me over onto the ground. The three other boys' laughter filled the room once again and we continued on, not caring that we were all acting like Dustin's age when he was acting like ours.
I guess you all know who ended up winning the little wrestling match and banned us all from the kitchen after...
-
Putting the last plate on the drying rack, I wiped my hands dry before turning around to Nathan. "Are you sure there's no more leftovers?" I asked him for the tenth time, pouting.
"Yes, I'm positive there's no more leftovers." He said with a roll of his eyes. I watched as he took the garbage bag out of the can and replaced it with an empty one.
"But it was so good!" I whined, missing that lovely dinner we had just finished.
After Nathan and I had stopped wrestling each other, and someone had finally grown a pair to untie a very pissed off Tyler, we had all sat down at the dinner table with a delicious meal in front of us, cooked by my chef of a boyfriend. After finishing that lavish Christmas dinner, Tyler, Max, Landon, Jordan and Dustin had all retired to bed, since they'd need the energy for tomorrow. It was already eleven.
"I know it was good." Nathan smirked at me, before tying up the garbage bag and placing it near the door.
"The pumpkin pie was the best part." I beamed. I was pretty full and probably would throw up if I tried forcing any more bites down to my stuffed belly. But that didn't mean I'd still risk it for one more beautiful explosion on my taste buds.
"Shouldn't you be heading off to bed now princess?" Nathan asked, walking over towards me now.
"I'd ask you the same thing my peasant." I smirked at him, adding a wink.
Nathan just shook his head at me with a small amused grin, before grabbing my arm and pulling me down the hall to his room, closing all the lights as we passed by.
Once we arrived in his room, he let go of my arm and started heading towards the bathroom.
My eyes widened as I realized my poor bladder would explode if I didn't get to the toilet soon.
"I have to pee first!" I yelled, before starting to sprint towards my destination.
Nathan turned around for a split second to see me charging at him, before smirking. "I don't think so." He spoke, before starting to run.
Just as his hand pushed the door open, I suddenly got an idea.
Putting all my faith in those soccer players that I'd see on television, I ran at him before sticking out a leg and diving towards the washroom.
I closed my eyes, praying that I'd actually make it in and not look like an idiot laying on her back on the ground.
I felt the wind rush past me and just as I snapped open my eyes, the white ceiling of the washroom came into my view as I sighed in relief.
"Did you just slide past me like a soccer player?" Nathan asked me slowly, shock and disbelief still in his eyes.
Sitting up now, I looked up at Nathan as a smile slowly took over my face. "Hell yeah I did! I also just stole the bathroom from you." I smirked at him in victory and quickly stood up to slam the door in his confused face.
"I'm so happy that you're proud about sliding all over the bathroom floor." Nathan's sarcastic voice spoke, before he walked off.
"Thanks!" I chirped cheerily.
Once I had changed into a pair of shorts and a tank top and snuggled into bed, I heard Nathan walking out of the bathroom towards me, shutting off the lights and sliding under the covers.
"Goodnight Sky." I heard him whisper softly to me.
"Night." I muttered back with a small smile. I blushed in surprise when I felt him move closer to place a soft kiss on my cheek.
Once he had moved back, the room grew silent and I listened to Nathan's breaths grow heavier until he was out.
After moving around a little, I realized I couldn't fall asleep. I lay straight in bed, staring at the ceiling. Imagining small little sheep jumping over a wall, I started counting them. I think I got to five before sighing in frustration and slowly sitting up, not wanting to wake Nathan. Deciding to go get a glass of water, I stealthily climbed out of the bed and tip toed out the door.
After closing it silently behind me, I let out a small breath of relief, before walking into the kitchen and grabbing a glass.
Standing by the sink and watching the cold water fill the transparent glass, I started thinking about tomorrow. I'll admit that I was nervous but I knew I'd be okay as long as Nathan would be by my side.
Realizing that my glass was currently overflowing, I quickly shut the tap off and went to go sit at the dining table.
I suddenly turned my head to my left as I heard shuffled footsteps making their way towards me.
I saw it was Jordan who was walking into the room.
"Hey. I thought you went to bed?" I asked him curiously.
"Yeah I did. Couldn't sleep." He explained, before taking a seat at the head of the dining table so he was diagonal from me.
"Same here." I spoke, twisting my body so I could face him.
He nodded and we just shared a comfortable silence as Jordan stared at the table, looking deep in thought and I stared off into space. I could tell there was something on his mind.
"So what's keeping you up?" I asked him after a while, breaking the silence.
"I'd ask you the same." He said to me with a small smirk, reminding me of Nathan.
"I asked first." I retorted with ease.
He smiled slightly, before sighing and running a hand through his hair. "I'm still processing everything that happened with my mother and Hana..." He trailed off with a sad smile.
"Yeah, I mean it's a lot to process when it gets dumped on you like that in one day." I gave him an empathetic smile.
"You know the worst part was my reaction to it all. When Nathan said it out loud to my mother, I barely felt it." He continued on, shaking his head slowly. "I didn't even shed a single tear when I found out. Ever since my dad left us, it's like he took something from me and I've felt empty ever since. The day that I found out Nathan had gotten himself involved with the wrong people, I knew our family truly had no hope left. My mother was a wreck already before they took Hana, Max had dropped out of college and was never the same, and Nathan. He was affected the worst by all of this. He isolated himself from everyone and just shut us all out, while still sending us all the money and support we needed. To this day, he still takes the blame for everything bad that's happened to us." Jordan sighed, his eyes briefly closing.
"But now everything's looking up." I said after a while, a feeling of determination growing within me.
"What?" Jordan asked, looking up at me with a confused expression.
"You've had a bad enough past, but now it's starting to get better. I mean Max is back in college, Dustin is still a happy kid, and we're going to get Hana back tomorrow, which will fix everything." I stated positively.
Jordan gave me a small smile but there was still a glint of sadness in his eyes. "So, what's keeping you from falling asleep?" Jordan asked with a small smirk, turning all the attention on me, before I could ask him what that small flicker of sadness had been.
I stared into his now curious eyes and sighed, before explaining to him. "I guess I'm just worried about Tyler and Landon." I shrugged, gripping my almost empty glass and staring at it.
"How come?" Jordan asked softly, urging for me to go on.
"I dragged them both into this. They showed up here expecting for me to come back home with them but I couldn't. So they ended up supporting me and joining in on this." I let loose a tired breath. "I'm just scared that something will happen to them." I admitted.
"Skylar, I know for a fact that Nathan will do everything he can for yours and everyone else's safety." Jordan said slowly, managing to reassure me.
I gave him a small smile, silently thanking him. He simply nodded back.
"Plus, from what I've heard from all of you, that Alvin guy shouldn't be feared at all." He grinned at me, causing me to let out a short laugh.
I thought back to earlier today when I had found out that Alvin was actually my uncle. My eyes suddenly widened as I realized something.
"What is it?" Jordan asked me with concern, noticing my sudden change in mood.
"I just realized that I forgot to tell my brother that Alv-- I mean Ryland's our uncle!" I exclaimed.
"Wait, what?" Jordan asked in disbelief.
Oh yeah, Jordan didn't know either. Nathan was the only one that had been there when I had found out that horrid secret.
"Yeah..." I trailed off sheepishly. "I kind of forgot to tell anyone that he's related to me." I said with a nervous laugh.
"But why would your own uncle kidnap you?" Jordan asked slowly, sounding more confused than ever.
"It's a long story." I stated, shaking my head. When I noticed Jordan's face fall slightly, I quickly added. "But I'll tell you as soon as I get back." I promised.
"Look forward to it." He answered with a grin, before turning his head towards the clock.
I followed his gaze to see it was just past twelve. "Oh no! I have to get some sleep or else I'll fall asleep in the suitcase and they'll never find me!" I panicked, before standing up to rush to the kitchen and put my glass away.
"We wouldn't want that to happen now, would we?" Jordan asked me with an amused grin as I walked back out of the kitchen.
"Well you should get some sleep too. You have a long day ahead of you to babysit Dustin." I told him.
"I will, don't worry." Jordan chuckled at me, getting up from his seat now too. "Well are you gonna walk me to my bed and tuck me in or are you gonna go to bed?" He asked me with a raised brow as I realized I was still standing there.
"Sorry not today, but I'll tuck you in when I get back honey!" I faked a motherly tone, even grabbing his cheek and pinching it lightly.
Jordan simply chuckled, shrugging me off. "You're good for my brother, I haven't seen him this relaxed and happy in a long time." He told me with a soft smile.
I beamed back at his younger brother. "I really do love him." I stated, before throwing my hands over my mouth and widening my eyes.
Leave it to me to reveal my love for my boyfriend to someone else before him...
"You didn't hear that." I quickly added after, causing Jordan's amused smile to grow.
"Don't worry, I won't tell a soul. But make sure you do soon, I'm sure he'll be thrilled." Jordan smirked at me.
"I will." I answered honestly, smiling to myself. "I appreciate that my little Jordy-Jor!" I gushed.
"I think the lack of sleep is getting to you." Jordan shook his head in amusement.
"Agreed. Goodnight then." I grinned.
"Goodnight Skylar." He chuckled back at me.
"And also, thank you." I said in a serious tone now.
"Yeah, you too." He smiled back at me.
I then turned around and made my way back to Nathan's room.
Once I had slipped under the covers, Nathan shifted and turned towards me, placing his hands on my waist and pulling me closer.
"Where'd you go babe." He mumbled, half-asleep.
"Just to get some water. I talked to Jordan too." I told him, threading my own arms around his neck and snuggling up against him.
"Is everything okay?" Nathan asked now, the haziness in his voice gone.
"Yes baby, everything's okay." I reassured him.
Nathan pulled back slightly to look down at me, his emerald eyes vivid from the streams of moonlight filtering in through the blinds.
"Tell me princess. You know I'm here for you, you know I got you." Nathan spoke softly.
My heart warmed at his words, and I found myself opening up to him. "It was just my anxieties and doubts keeping me awake." I spoke.
"Skylar, I swear on my life that I will keep you safe and secure throughout this all. You, your brother, and Landon." Nathan promised me. "I've never failed to be there for you princess, and I never will." He raised a hand to caress my cheek softly.
My eyes teared up at his words. "I'm so lucky to have you." I whispered.
"So am I. I promise once we get through all of this, you and I will be going on a nice, long, romantic trip." Nathan promised. "You don't deserve to feel these anxieties and doubts, or to take on such heavy burdens. But yet you do it all so effortlessly. I truly admire you, and I think you're the strongest person out of all of us in this. Not once did your confidence waver. Had it not been for you, there would be no plan, simply because the idea of something like this would seem insane and impossible. But Sky, you've showed me things in a different light. I can see more clear and have more faith with you around. I really am grateful for your presence, Skylar. You make me the best version of myself, and I'd be a lost man without you."
By the time he was done talking, there were a few stray tears that had escaped from my watery eyes. His words were beautiful and made me feel beautiful. No one had ever made me feel this way before. No one had ever made me feel so warm and tingly, yet so full of fire and energy. I couldn't explain it, but I knew what I felt towards him.
So without any hesitation, I let my heart speak for once, without my mind's doubts and fears stopping me.
"I love you." I finally spoke the three words that had been dying to come out since the past couple of days.
