I watched the soft clouds moving past us from underneath, hiding away all that was below and bringing a sense of escape. There was something so tranquil about being weightless in the sky, away from everything. I had truly enjoyed the past five hours.
Shutting the airplane window and cutting out the light now, I turned to my right to see Nathan's peaceful face, fast asleep.
I couldn't help but smile at the sight. Before I even realized what I was doing, my hand brushed back a few stray hairs on his forehead, gently. I watched as his long lashes fluttered a few times, before opening fully.
"Rise and shine sleeping beauty." I teased softly as he stretched out his legs in front of us. He had been sleeping for a good two hours, looking a lot better now as he awoke. He had told me that he'd driven straight to me from the airport, and this was his second flight in the same day. So of course I was happy when my stubborn boyfriend finally dozed off and caught up on some sleep at least.
"Now can you at least tell me how long we have until we land in wherever it is that we're landing?" I asked him hopefully as he adorably blinked away the last of his tiredness.
You'd think that it would be impossible to get on a flight without knowing where you're headed to. I mean, there were plenty of giveaways that could tell you, like the captain making constant announcements, the small screens overhead with the small map, or even simply turning to someone around you to ask. But Nathan being the committed and brilliant kidnapper that he was, decided to go against all odds.
Every time the PA would come on, Nathan would slap his hands over my ears and sing loudly so I couldn't hear. Every time the map popped up on the screen above us, he'd obscure my vision or sometimes even surprise me with a kiss, which I hate to admit worked in distracting me. And if someone around us started to have a conversation where the name of our destination could possibly slip out, he would loudly talk over them.
I was surprised they hadn't thrown him off this plane yet.
He had even threatened me before dozing off that if I tried to figure it out myself, he'd never cook for me again to ensure the surprise would remain a surprise.
Although it was starting to annoy me that I still didn't know where we were even going, I had to admit it was sweet how hard he was trying to keep this a surprise, and the least I could do was make him happy.
But I still wanted to throw his arse out the window.
"We're almost there princess, patience." Nathan smirked at me.
I glared at him. "That's what you said two hour ago before you dozed off." I said flatly.
"Oh yeah." Nathan chuckled, but stopped once he saw my murderous look. "Well, now we're twice as almost there as we were before." Nathan grinned.
"Come on. Don't get me more riled up." I warned.
"But I love doing that baby cakes." Nathan winked at me, looking like he was enjoying this.
I wondered if he'd enjoy being chucked off this plane.
"Nathan you at least owe me this! And don't call me that." I frowned.
"Whatever I owe you is about to be paid soon, doll face. And why not sugar pie?" He asked, feigning innocence.
I tried to come up with an answer, before settling with every woman's free pass. "I find it sexist."
Nathan simply rolled his eyes at that. "I literally call you princess all the time."
"Well start calling me your highness." I shrugged.
"What about your fineness." Nathan winked at me.
I couldn't help but break out into a grin, before chuckling at is smoothness.
"Alright cuddle bunny." I winked back, deciding to play along his unique pet names game.
"You love it, cutie with a nice booty." Nathan smirked, causing me to laugh.
"Sure, stud muffin." I replied.
"Mhm, hot tamale." Nathan said seductively.
"Ai papi!" I cried out, fanning my face with my hands and acting all hot and bothered.
"Stop!" Nathan chuckled, looking around at the few people who had turned to look and glaring them off to mind their own business. "You're too much, my sweet seductress." Nathan added in quieter tone.
I opened my mouth to shoot back another one, but was cut off by the intercom.
Nathan's grin widened at my expectant face as we both knew what was coming. Before I could even hear the captain's voice, he slapped his hands over my ears and blocked out the sound by singing really loud.
I rolled my eyes at his song choice and shook my head as I noticed the annoyed looks thrown our way from the passengers around us. To say Nathan wasn't exactly a friendly and respectful passenger would be a huge understatement.
Finally, Nathan shut up and removed his hands from my ears just as I heard the click of the intercom go off.
"You can't be calling me such spicy names and then proceed to sing Old McDonald Had a Farm!" I proclaimed.
"Well I can, and I did." Nathan grinned at me, holding his chin up like a little five year old.
"You're an idiot."
"But I'm a handsome idiot." Nathan corrected.
"No, you're not even that." I shot him down.
"You're right. I'm more than that." Nathan smirked.
"You're irritating." I shot back.
Suddenly, Nathan leaned in close and his mouth was inches away from my side. "That's not what you said a couple of hours ago when your legs were wrapped around me outside your school." He whispered seductively.
I turned my head to face him just as he leaned back into his seat with a wide smirk.
I reached out a hand to smack his arm, causing him to start laughing.
"Hey Nathan?" I started to say, trying my best to look innocent.
"Yeah?" He said, turning to me with his full attention now.
"Why did the chicken cross the road?" I asked.
"Because it was trying to run away from Skylar the crazy violent wrathful girl?" Nathan tried.
"No, because its name was Nathan and it was stupid." I corrected.
"That was hurtful." He said seriously.
"Good." I stuck my tongue out at him.
"I need a kiss to feel better." Nathan pouted.
"You're gonna need a lot more than just a kiss to heal your ego." I chuckled.
"You're right. I can think of just the right fix." Nathan dropped his tone to sound seductive.
"Just take your kiss and leave me alone!" I exclaimed, my eye having caught the perfect thing to prank him with.
"If you insist." Nathan spoke nonchalantly, moving closer.
I watched as he leaned in and his eyes fluttered shut, awaiting my lips. Instead, I grabbed the magazine in front of me with a picture on Justin Bieber on the cover and pushed it against his face, so he ended up kissing the Biebs instead of me.
Nathan pulled back once he realized he wasn't kissing human lips and looked surprised. That's when I burst out laughing.
"Oh you'll pay for that." Nathan said in a scary tone.
I froze, watching him cautiously. Before he could do anything, a flight attendant interrupted us. I gave the young lady a relieved smile, but for some reason she wasn't too friendly.
"Excuse me miss, we will be landing in a little while and I need your chair to be upright." She tried to say casually, but I heard the venom behind her words and I instantly knew she was up to no good. Plus, I had seen her eyeing Nathan shamelessly when we had gotten on the plane.
"I didn't move my seat at all." I answered, watching her cautiously.
Nathan decided to pick up the magazine between us and started reading it. I wanted to laugh.
"Well it's not upright." She snapped, leaving no room for argument. "Here, I'll fix it."
I watched curiously as she leaned forward, reaching for the top of my seat and then figured out what blondie was up to.
Just as Nathan turned his head to the right to see what she was doing, she leaned more than she needed to and my unsuspecting boyfriend was met with a pair of fake boobs popping out of the attendant's white dress shirt that was two sizes too small and was unbuttoned more than what was professionally appropriate.
I clenched my jaw as she pushed my seat up only by an inch, and tried to lean even more forward.
"Hey, I'd really appreciate it if you and your fake boobs could get out of my boyfriend's face before I rip those fake extensions out of your empty skull." I said in a calm yet threatening tone.
She immediately straightened up and gasped, trying to look innocent. "Excuse me!? I'll have you know that our airline has no tolerance for such disrespect and threats. So if you have a problem with my breast size--"
Unfortunately her little speech was cut off as the plane dipped a great height, causing her to tumble over and fall into the unsuspecting lap of the elderly man who was seated next to Nathan.
Awe. I had really been looking forward to hearing her full speech.
"EEE! Get off me!" She screeched at the poor man, as if it were his fault.
We all watched as she stumbled up and stood again, glaring at the man, and then at me.
I raised a brow at the seething psycho, who opened her mouth to probably say something more stupid, but instead made a cringe-worthy screech as she stumbled again as the plane took another dip. But this time, she managed to grab a hold of herself.
"You should really go take a seat before you fall over and hurt yourself. Wouldn't want to risk losing any more brain cells now would we?" I asked with a polite smile.
"You little--" She started to yell, but was cut off yet again.
"Attention all flight attendants, please take your seats immediately if you have not already as we have begun our descent." The captain's sharp voice came on overhead, sounding pissed.
We all watched as she glared at us one last time, before stomping off down the aisle.
"That was beautiful." Nathan finally spoke.
"Stupid dumb bleached dotard..." I muttered off.
Nathan suddenly leaned in closer to me, placing a hand on my thigh and the other on my neck. "Do you know how sexy you look when you're mad?" He asked me in a low whisper, causing me to shiver.
I opened my mouth to remind him that we were on a plane, but the old man seated next to Nathan beat me to it.
"For gods sakes can't you two wait till we land before doing the dirty?" The man complained, giving us a disapproving look.
Nathan clenched his jaw in annoyance, before turning away from me and to the old man. "You'd understand if you actually got laid for once." He said bitterly, causing me to gasp.
"Nathan! Apologize right now! That was so rude and disrespectful! You can't just say that to an elderly man who's probably more wise than you. Plus, it's not like you've ever been laid to actually be saying that." I finish off with a smirk.
Nathan's jaw dropped in surprise at my jab, but he quickly snapped it close, an evil smirk now taking over.
Uh oh.
I watched as he turned to the man who had a ghost of a smile from my comment before.
"I'm sorry sir, that was rude of me. It's just that I've been sexually frustrated for a while now. I mean, I really like her but the thing is she never lets me touch her in any other way. I've been patient for years now but she still doesn't trust me. It's really frustrating." Nathan spoke in a defeated tone.
I was left with my jaw on the ground by the end.
That little bastard!
The worst part was when the old man gave Nathan a sympathetic smile and nodded in understanding. "Don't worry about it son. I understand. I've met a few girls like that myself, and can relate to how they made me want to rip out my hair." The man chuckled slightly, before turning to me. "Look here miss, this man is quite handsome and seems kind. Don't lead him on and take advantage of his kindness. Because one day he'll get tired of waiting and leave you for another girl who's more than willing." The man spoke wisely, and I had no choice but to nod in shame.
I saw Nathan's shoulders slightly shake. He was laughing!
As soon as the man turned away and got engrossed in a book he had been reading, I turned to Nathan with a murderous look.
He bit his lip from bursting out laughing, but quickly got it under control once he saw my death glare. "Woah there kitten, calm down I was just kidding." Nathan said, bringing up his hands in surrender.
I thought of lunging at him and punching him in his stupid handsome face, before realizing I'd rather not get taken away by security as soon as we landed. Instead, my eye caught the glass of water stuffed in the pouch in front of me that I'd been drinking. It was still a quarter full.
I turned to Nathan with a sad face, changing up the plan and leaning forward to block his vision of what my hand reached out for.
"You're not actually mad about not having done it yet, are you?" I asked hesitantly, even biting my lip as I brought the glass of water closer.
Nathan's eyes widened in guilt, before he grabbed my face in both hands. "Of course not! Skylar I'm the one who wanted to wait and make it special. I'll even wait ten more years if I have to." He said so genuinely, with so much love and care shining in his eyes, that I almost aborted the mission.
Almost.
I smiled up at him, and just as he went to return the smile, I brought up the glass and poured the rest of my water all over his lap, causing him to gasp in shock.
"Hope that helped cool off the sexual frustration." I smiled at him innocently, but quickly dropped the act once I saw his angered face.
And once again I was in trouble.
I watched as he snapped open his seat belt, before leaning over to unclasp mine and grabbed my hand.
"Nathan wait the seat belt sign is still on!" I argued as he dragged me up and into the aisle. "You're not actually going to throw me off the plane are you?" I asked as he rushed down the aisle towards the very back of the plane.
He stopped to turn and give me an 'are you serious' look. "No, you're gonna help me clean up this mess." He said back, before continuing our trek to probably the bathrooms.
"Sir you can't be up right now, please take a seat." A flight attendant ordered as we reached the back.
"It's an emergency." Nathan grumbled.
"I'm afraid it's gonna have to wait until we safely land." The lady in her mid thirties said back.
I watched Nathan's eyes as they quickly contemplated something, before turning to the flight attendant with a charming smile. "I understand your rules, ma'am. But could you please let it slide? Just this once?" He asked softly, and I saw a blush creeping up the lady's neck.
Well he had used ma'am, and the way he'd said it was a panty dropper by itself. Stupid charming boyfriend.
"I-I guess I can let you go, if it's an emergency."
She was a full grown lady with two kids probably!
Nathan threw her a million dollar smile, before dragging me into the bathroom behind him.
I watched as the lady's face became shocked as she'd clearly not noticed me behind the guy making her all hot and bothered.
Just as she opened her mouth to protest, Nathan snapped the door shut and turned to me.
"Nathan I had no idea you had a thing for flight attendants. You can stay on the plane overnight and just give me directions." I said in a saccharine voice.
Nathan's expression changed from pissed to smug in all of three seconds.
"What?" I asked when he kept staring at me with a knowing smirk.
"You're jealous." He stated, looking like an evil predator who had their prey right where they wanted.
"Of that forty year old lady? Yeah I'm so jealous of those forehead wrinkles." I rolled my eyes.
"Not of the lady, but the way I was talking to her." Nathan corrected me, looking like he was about to burst from the joy of being right.
Like I'd give him that satisfaction.
"Well it is unnerving when my boyfriend hits on cougars." I stated as if it were obvious.
"Is that so, princess." He suddenly was very close to me, trapping me between his body and the counter behind me. "Then why were you glaring at her the whole time?" He asked in a mere whisper, his mouth inches away from my ear.
Talk about déjà vu...
Before my brain could conjure up another smart ass reply, which would admittedly take a while considering his proximity, his lips met mine.
The moment was over in a mere second, leaving me pouting and wanting more, but that disappeared once I saw Nathan's smug smirk as he stood in front of me with some distance now.
"Well stop pouting and help me out with my pants before the plane lands." Nathan broke the silence, now full on grinning.
And right on cue, the plane took another dangerous dip, causing Nathan to lose his balance and tip forward right onto me.
"Hello princess." Nathan breathed in my ear, before falling sideways onto the bathroom floor as the plane started tipping to the right. I had been clutching the counter behind me so luckily I didn't fall.
But that didn't keep me from bursting out laughing as Nathan struggled to get up, fighting gravity but clearly losing.
I wondered how long it would take to land. Hopefully it was long, because watching karma beat up Nathan was something I could watch all day.
***
"So can you take it off now?" I asked Nathan as he pulled me out of the cab.
We had finally arrived to the mysterious land of Nathan's surprise, but my excitement when we landed was short lived once he brought out the blindfold.
There was a lot of screaming, cursing and swearing, yet the bastard somehow managed to blindfold me, keeping it that way through airport security. He had explained his surprise trip for me to the officers and they all loved him for it.
"Not until we get there. It's only a couple of steps and then you can take it off." Nathan promised. I think he finally realized how angry this was making me.
"It better be a couple." I muttered.
Nathan took my hand in his and guided me blindly across the place. We slowed down after a while, Nathan stopping me.
"Your shoes, please." He asked politely.
I slipped out of my heels without question, not having the energy to argue with him any more. It was also quite relieving, considering I had worn them throughout the entire trip. Along with my dress too, which caused a lot of curious stares my way, and some approving ones too. It was worth it seeing Nathan grumbling the whole time, pulling me into his side like an annoyed grizzly bear every time a male eye looked my way.
"I hope my feet smell." I spat out, crossing my arms as he bent down to retrieve them.
I heard a chuckle, before he took my hand and started walking again.
"Only you would say that Sky." He said in a proud tone.
I was about to tell him some other words only I would say which weren't too nice, but was cut off once my feet hit soft warm sand.
I let out a small gasp. That meant we were on a beach. I smiled at that.
The rest of the walk was spent in peaceful silence. After about ten minutes, we stopped.
"Ready princess?" Nathan whispered in my ear, standing behind me.
I silently nodded, trying to contain my excitement. The whole trip I had been mad at not being told and I thought I'd feel relieved once I finally found out. But now a sense of thrill and adrenaline was pumping through me. He really had managed to make it a surprise. The type of surprise you can't wait to see because you know you'll love it.
Nathan untied the knot behind my head and I sprung open my eyes as soon as the silky fabric slipped down my face.
I let out a big gasp, the sight before me succeeding in surprising me. Okay, exceeding in surprising me.
In front of where we were standing, there was a small path bordered with small stones and pebbles, leading up to an open gazebo with a delicate white table and two chairs. There were dark, silky curtains that had been tied at the posts, looking inviting in front of me. The scene was breathtaking, especially the large blue ocean ahead of it. The sound of soft, gentle waves filled the silent night. The beach stretched out endlessly on both ends and it seemed empty surprisingly. Of course Nathan would manage to empty out a beautiful beach like this for just the two of us.
"It's perfect." I breathed out. To confirm my statement and show how grateful I was and how much I loved his surprise-- how much I loved him, I leaned forward and kissed him, slowly, yet passionately.
It wasn't rushed. It was the kiss that spoke millions of words. It was long, sweet and steady, determining we had all the time in the world. We truly did at this point. We'd made it both so far, and now was the time for celebration, relaxation, and harmony.
"I love you." I spoke breathlessly once we pulled away. "So, so, so much." I added, before crushing our lips together once more, that familiar spark igniting in me just like every time, before spreading rapidly into a hot fire.
In that moment, I felt love. In every way possible. You don't just experience it. You feel it coursing through you, exciting you and keeping your heart beating fast. You feel alive, whole, and well-found. Even if it meant risking heartbreak or hurt, love is worth feeling all these things, because if it's true, it surpasses any negative thoughts or feelings. Love is beyond all, and I loved Nathan beyond anything.
I hadn't believed in it before, but these emotions of pure elation and love were living breathing proof. He was my one and only, true love.
