I awoke to my bed shaking violently. But over the years, I had somehow grown accustomed to it and didn't start panicking and screaming 'EARTHQUAKE' like I used to before. No. Nathan and Haley had decided to add this to my morning routine. Although it wasn't the most pleasant thing to wake up to, at least it got me out of bed.
Nathan's groan from next to me and his arm shifting from around my waist told me it was Haley this morning who had woken up first.
I finally opened my eyes and any kind of annoyance was wiped from me the second I laid eyes on my beautiful energetic girl, her dark long hair bouncing around as she treated our bed as a trampoline.
"You're finally up! Quick, you have to come to the door, there's someone here for you!" Haley yelled at me when she finally noticed my open eyes.
"Haley what did I tell you about opening the door to strangers?" I sighed, rubbing my eyes.
"Why are you two even up at this ungodly hour?" Nathan groaned from beside me as Haley started tugging on my arm as she tried to get me out of bed.
"It's eleven o'clock." I said flatly to my idiot of a husband.
He responded with some unintelligible words before flipping onto his stomach and falling right back to sleep.
Before I could sit there and ogle at his amazing back muscles, the little ball of energy finally managed to pull me right out of my warm surroundings and onto the cold hardwood floor.
"Come on mommy, it's not nice to keep people waiting." Haley spoke to me as if she was my mother instead.
I shook my head at the crazy four year old. "Okay, but no more opening the doors without mommy or daddy okay?" I told her seriously.
"I didn't open it. I just heard a knock and yelled at the door that you were coming." Haley told me with a grin.
"Good girl." I chuckled, feeling nothing but love for my angel of a daughter. Nathan had truly given me all my greatest desires, and this little ball of energy was the best one yet.
Managing to grab my night robe and pull it on, Haley finally got me out the door, downstairs and to the front door all in a slim ten seconds.
She most definitely got her strength and physical endurance from Nathan. I tiredly pulled open the door and barely had time to react as I finally stood to face a strangely familiar face staring back at me in shock.
"Hello, you wanted to see me?" I said in confusion as I glanced down at the now shy Haley hiding behind my arm.
"Skylar, is that really you? Wow, you look great!" The lady who looked to be the same age as me exclaimed, taking in my thin nightgown barely covering my legs against the harsh cold wind. Sleeping in a tank top and shorts was not something I planned to do again. But it worked when you had a sexy human heater slash teddy bear next to you.
"I'm sorry, who are you?" I asked with slight embarrassment.
The girl's blond hair and striking blue eyes seemed familiar, but I couldn't exactly remember from where.
"Oh, I wouldn't expect you to remember me, but I sure do remember you. After all, I kind of witnessed you being kidnapped like eight years ago." The familiar girl flipped her hair as she chatted and it suddenly clicked.
"Katy?" I asked in shock, my mouth hanging wide open as I stared at the girl who had been there when Nathan and I had our romantic first encounter. She had been Landon's current fling and had insulted me for buying a smoothie. Now I remembered. "What are you doing here?" I couldn't help but ask.
"Well, I never really saw you after the whole kidnapping thing, even when you got back and finished school, I had transferred. But ever since then it had been bothering me that I hadn't gotten to see you for myself for the past eight years. So, I finally contacted Landon and got your address from him, and here I am!" She chatted really fast and I realized some of her mannerisms hadn't changed since high school, but she was here now and I was touched by her action.
Before I could respond, I felt an arm snake around my waist from behind and was pulled against Nathan's hard chest as he took in our new guest.
I looked to see Katy staring at Nathan as if she was seeing a ghost.
Oh crap. She recognized him...
There was an eerie silence as Katy stared at Nathan in shock and fear, while Nathan stared back at her just as confused.
"Hey princess, who's your friend?" Nathan finally asked me, not taking his cautious gaze off Katy.
"Nathan, this is--"
"OH MY GOD! OHHH MY GOD!" Katy started screeching like a banshee and stumbled back away from our entrance as she pointed to Nathan accusingly. "IT'S YOU! OH MY GOD SKYLAR RUN!" Katy yelled at me, before turning around and taking off.
The three of us stood there and stared at her running figure down the street, before I broke out into laughter and Haley soon joined in. She tended to laugh whenever someone else was laughing, which made you love her even more. But Nathan still stood there silently, before he finally asked me.
"Did I say something wrong?"
This caused me to crack up even more, until finally Nathan closed the door and pulled Haley and I into the warm kitchen and sat us down on the bar stools.
"Okay, mind telling me who the heck was that?" Nathan asked me, leaning on the counter across from me and waiting for me to elaborate.
"That was my dear friend Katy." I managed to say without any giggles. "She was there at the mall the day we met, and she somehow recognized you." I explained.
Nathan's eyes widened then. "You don't think she'll tell anyone that I..." Nathan trailed off, looking down at Haley.
"No, she wouldn't do that. She's probably too scared to and maybe after she gets over her initial shock, she'll put two and two together." I reassured him. "Plus, even if she did, who would believe her? You're kind of the last person that anyone would suspect." I reminded him.
"Yeah, you're right. I can just use my authoritative power against her." Nathan grinned. "You sure you don't have any more crazy, screaming ditzy friends of yours who might run off in the opposite direction if they see me walking down the street?" Nathan asked with a raised brow.
"Babe, you don't have to worry." I said sweetly, grabbing his face in my hands over the counter and leaning closer. "That's just a normal reaction people have because of your face." I added on, before bursting out laughing.
"Skylar MacCallum, you are so dead." Nathan said in his deep scary kidnapper tone.
Haley squealed in excitement as I grabbed her hand and we both ran out of the kitchen from the crazy Nathan monster.
"This way this way!" Haley yelled, before pulling me down a hall and then into the bathroom.
I shut the door behind us and locked it, before placing a hand over my mouth as Haley did the same to silence our giggles.
"Good thing I know how to pick locks." Nathan's mischievous voice came from the other side of the door as Haley and I shared a look of horror.
In no time the door was opened and Nathan reached out and grabbed Haley in his arms, pulling her up to his face and pretending to eat her up like a monster.
I laughed as I watched Haley screaming and laughing along with Nathan and felt euphoria. This was my wonderful crazy life. My sexy kidnapper of a husband who was now 27 years old had achieved his dreams of saving lives and helping people by becoming the town's best detective. I wasn't too sure on letting the idiot go and risk his life each day, but the true passion he had for it and Kevlar erased most fears and doubts I had. Plus, he was a sexy kidnapper ninja, and I knew that better than anyone. And because he was such an amazing badass ninja, the job also paid well to support Haley and I in our beautiful Victorian style house.
Our lives were lived in unexpectedness and risks, and the crazy unknown was what comforted us. We had Haley two years after our marriage, and Nathan had been excited beyond belief to find out that we were having a baby. Since it had been so unexpected, I had dropped out of my last year of college to take care of the little trouble-maker while Nathan worked to support us, and although it sounded difficult, we managed to pull through it all with smiles. It was perfect and we both wouldn't change a thing. Once Haley turned three years old, Nathan had encouraged me to continue on my studies and had hired a part-time nanny who would take care of Haley on the rare occasions that Nathan could not. So now I had recently graduated college and had been lucky to get myself straight into a job of teaching. It had been what I'd wanted to do ever since I saw Hana. The fact that I could change the lives of such young kids was astounding and I quickly took the opportunity, and Nathan loved it.
Speaking of Hana, five years of therapy, counselling and loads of support from Nathan and I and his entire family, had finally set her on the right path. She was now almost 21 years old and was studying her second year in medical school. We were all so proud of her and she was too. The rest of Nathan's family was also striving in life: Max had found himself a lovely girl named Mel through college and now they were both successful lawyers living in a big house of their own with twins expected. It was very hard to picture Max in a suit, let alone as a lawyer, but he sure picked up a few things from his younger brother. Jordan had grown up and was finishing his final year in college and would soon be taking a job in business, and he also had found himself a charismatic girl named Olivia. After all, being a MacCallum boy guaranteed you a beautiful chick on the side. While the older brothers had settled down with wives and girlfriends, even Hana was dating some doctor mcdreamy hunk in her med school, Dustin was a grade A player. It was somewhat expected, and I liked to embarrass the high-schooler any chance that I got and loved to bring up how adorable he used to be. Sure he obtained his intelligence and lady-killer looks, but he had yet to find the one, and I would cry when that day came. And finally, Nathan's parents were also seeming to blend back into the family. Although his father had gotten divorced from Nathan's mother, he at least had the decency to help out his kids with their college fees. But Nathan's mother was, well, starting to act like a mother again. After a lot of pushing and convincing, I had gotten Nathan to start at least speaking to her again, and soon enough, the whole lot was a big happy family again. So all in all, Nathan and his family got the happily ever after that they deserved after the hell they faced, and I got to see it. But they all loved to feed my ego and remind me that if it wasn't for me, they wouldn't be where they were today. But I liked to believe that it was a team effort.
As for my side of the family, well it wasn't as successful as Nathan's. My step-dad and mother had decided they needed a fresh start and ditched our asses, taking a one-way ticket to England where they still lived and had not contacted us since. It was frustrating that they were the ones running away when I along with Tyler had suffered the most. But I had gotten over it all and wasn't bothered about it in the slightest now.
I had my own wonderful little family now and couldn't possibly ask for more. As for my brother who stuck by me like glue, he had gone off to become some big shot NFLer. Yes, you heard right. My idiot brother was out tackling other idiots and earned millions from it. After he had stayed with NYCU as an assistant coach for two years, the captain himself urged Nathan to try and play for the team, and he was phenomenal. I couldn't have been more proud. After taking care of his little sister and refusing to give up, he finally got what he deserved and more than what he'd imagined. Oh, and he also fulfilled my eternal happiness and ended up marrying Jess. And I ate as many chocolate chip cookies as I wanted right in front of her face at her wedding. And finally, for the jelly to my peanut butter, Landon surprised us all by becoming president. Just kidding, otherwise our future would be doomed. No, my lovely idiot married Ella, of course, had a mini Landon running around his three story mansion and was the inventor of some billion dollar company.
So that brings us to the conclusion that no matter who you are, where you come from or what you do, you can always be a very rich and successful person with a hot spouse and adorable kids. Nah just kidding, Leonardo DiCaprio was still single with no kids.
But my crazy life was finally perfect. Everyone around me has happy and fulfilled, including myself. It was a beautiful thing to see, and although there were still many adventures ahead of Nathan, Haley and I, I was basking in the moment and didn't bother myself worrying about tomorrow.
So as the love of my life grabbed me by the waist and tickled me with the help of our baby girl, I knew that there really was no point in worrying about the future. I had the perfect family, the perfect friends and the perfect moment right here. It was all that mattered, and I took in every emotion, every feeling, every second of it and felt complete.
Life was crazy, I was crazy, my husband and daughter were crazy. But I loved it like that and had made the best mistake when I walked into that mall to be taken away by the love of my life and thrown into this crazy world of perfection. So I owed Alvin a great big thanks for sending in this guy for me, and I actually did go to visit him in jail with Nathan, bringing a slice of our wedding cake to him. He didn't exactly show any contentment for us, but we made sure he knew just how much he had made our lives wonderful.
This was how my happily ever after was made, but this wasn't the end. In fact, it was just the beginning, and I couldn't wait to face more.
Now the love story ends but still goes on, just without your knowledge. So snag yourself a hot kidnapper and marry him if you want to end up happy in life. Just don't tell them I told you to and stay away from the word Stockholm Syndrome. Thank you for joining me on my crazy wild journey with my sexy kidnapper.
