~*There is a voice that doesn't use words~*
Adhari looked over her slender shoulder when booming, enraged voices erupted in the air. Raghad glanced at Shouq with apprehensive eyes. Without another word the bride and her sister-in-law hastened past Adhari and sprinted towards the front of the house, to the wooden doors. Shouq grabbed the ring handle and pulled the doors open, they stepped out of the house in drastic dread.
As there were no houses that faced sheikh Mubarak's house there was a sizable crowd of tribesmen assembled a good feet away from the house on plain desert. The throng of men had formed a prodigious circle around something or rather someone. Shouq caught hold of Raghad's wrist and veered to their right in order to get a better view of what was the matter that appalled even the wind in this tribe.
With rapid heartbeats and benumb feet both women halted where the crowd was thin and provided a clear view of the midst. Raghad glanced at Shouq, clicked her lips then took note of the deep frown between her brows. She followed her gaze and here her own big brown eyes widened at the horrendous sight in front of them.
There in the center of the perplexed crowd lay a body on palm mats drenched with crimson blood. Bile rose in her throat at the sight of insects that flew over the body and worms that slithered over the man's swallow face. Ya Allah! What on earth happened? Who was this man? A sudden thought caused her to clench her fists in downright terror. No, he cannot be one of the knights her brother, Badr stationed around the tribe to guard her. He cannot.
"This is what they have committed, ya sheikh." An incensed voice barked and Raghad tore her gaze from the dead body to look at the source. The individual was one of the men who stood by the dead body, she recognized him as one of the knights Faris was training earlier this forenoon.
"We desire revenge, blood for blood." Bellowed another man from the crowd and a hushed murmur glided over the crowd, like a phantom over sand dunes on chilly nights.
"I command you to quell your rage, AbdulAziz." A familiar voice sounded followed by sheikh Mubarak's form, garbed in a black thobe.
"La ya sheikh I cannot. How can I remain hushed when my blood, my brother has been slaughtered barbarically." The first man growled with his scarlet eyes staring at his leader, Mubarak.
"Indeed ya Abdulaziz this is beyond forgiving," another man dressed in a white thobe with a white robe draped on his shoulders sauntered up to where Sheikh Mubarak stood in the midst of the crowd, a few feet away from the body. "Ali," the man gestured to the dead body. "Was eminent to be a noble man, a man who would never hurt even a bird in this tribe. To commit such a sin to a being like him should be avenged, Mubarak." Raghad peered at the man, he was the only one who had called the leader of this tribe by his name. She narrowed her eyes at the evident resembles both elderly men shared and discerned he was one of sheikh Mubarak's brothers.
"You are correct brother Khaleefa." Sheikh Mubarak verbalized in stern tone eyes on the deceased man.
"We pondered they honored the pact, but that tribe is known to violate treaty." AbdulAziz barked, looking around the crowd like a deranged man unleashed from his chains.
Raghad's insides compressed and shivered at his words. Subconsciously, she took another step forward, away from Shouq to hearken what the men of the Borkan tribe had to utter.
"It was him, that vicious man is the one to assassinate Ali." The knight who spoke of revenge earlier seethed. The crowd gasped at the indication and Raghad felt her lungs burn as if a chunk of coal resided inside her.
"And what makes you ponder that Badr, the eagle of knights will commit an act as low as this one to infringe the treaty when he knows well enough that he is the one at disadvantage?" A voice so deep that it resembled thunder spoke and the crowd went immobile for a few seconds.
Faris along with his brother Nasser ambled from the left and the crowd parted to make way for them. Knight of knights did not avert his gaze from AbdulAziz as he made his way to his father and uncle, whereas Nasser stopped a few feet away, his hands crossed over his broad chest, form rigid.
"You know as much as I do ya Faris, that he has his men guarded in your tribe under your watch." AbdulAziz hissed, infuriated.
Raghad watched as her spouse closed his eyes then opened them, he collected his brown robe in his left palm then made his way to Ali's body and bent down to examine the corpse. She saw the frown that swam between his brows, the clench of his fist. Faris was furious and he was doing everything in his might to restrain the beast that slumbered within him. She knew, Raghad knew if he was elicited further, the consequences would be sinister.
"His odious actions indicate this ya Faris. Ali was my brother, my blood, I want to avenge him." AbdulAziz sneered, in fury he placed his hand on the hilt of his sword.
"He is right Faris. We pardoned them for the man Faisal's son murdered and look how they repay us, by another death." Khaleefa vocalized and the crowd nodded in agreement, prepared to plunge in another deadly bloodshed.
Raghad took another step forward, she peered at her spouse's bend back with hot tears in her doe-like eyes. They cannot blame Badr for such treachery, he would never endanger his sister's contentment for something so demonic as this. Raghad felt impotent, she desired to scream to the tribesmen that her beloved brother was not a sinner, she yearned to defend Badr's honor. However, her throat was shrivelled, so dry that she felt as if she had gulped down a handful of sand.
"Indeed, there should be another war in order to show our foes where the Rashideens stand." yelled AbdulAziz and the crowd howled their views in harmony.
Her eyes did not waver away from Faris's bend form. He cannot possibly believe in the fabrications and false accusations the tribe targeted towards her brother, Badr. However, somehow in the pit of her quivering form Raghad knew the beast would be euphoric to have another battle with her tribe. She knew, Faris despised Badr and would not permit an opportunity like this to cascade down his fingers. He would take part in the war, by Allah, she knew he would be the one to lead the army.
A single drop of tear trickled down her cold cheek as Faris, her unwanted spouse rose to his full height with his eyes still on the body disregarding the tribe that blazed with rage. He stood there hushed for a while, the wind twirled around him taking his robe with it and swaying his hair then it lulled to a tranquil breeze. Gradually, Faris pivoted around to face his father and in doing so his inflamed, gloomy eyes landed on his woman, on Raghad.
An involuntary gasp escaped her chapped lips when her teary eyes clashed with his. That moment the wind decided to flap it's wings and the action caused a strand of her hair to escape her scarf and fell on her cheek. He stared at her for a few, countable seconds and there in those seconds so many feelings fulminated around them. Perhaps it was her plea, or something unfathomable in those dark, cold eyes that somehow appeared to be an oath to shield her.
"If any of my men move I will, by Allah, slit their throats, be that individual my own sibling." Faris growled in a voice that it hushed the yelling from the crowd completely.
"What is the meaning of this, Faris?" Sheikh Mubarak demanded, irked.
"Forgive me father, but you cannot wish me to believe this. You are aware of it as much as I am that this treaty, this concord means peace to Rashideens as well. And I do not believe that a knight like Badr would be foolish enough to assassinate one of my men." The knight's voice rose with each word, authority and dominance oozed from him. His tone was as if it enfolded it's rope around the wind and caused it to cease it's movements.
Raghad's curled fist touched her heaving bosom and dry lips wobbled. By Allah, she thought Faris would lead his men to demolish her tribe and annihilate her family, his actions however robbed her of her breath. Inside she implored that he would glance at her yet once again, that Faris would witness how desperately she yearned him to pillar her in this grievous matter.
"The evidence is right before your eyes." Khaleefa took a step forward towards his nephew.
"3ami, surely a man, a knight like you does not wish to terminate a man and bring forth yet another massacre merely from what AbdulAziz claims." Faris pushed his wide shoulders back and gazed at the elderly man in front.
"Then what do you propose son? You cannot suggest that I disregard this crime." Sheikh Mubarak dictated, his eyes moved to Ali's body the back on his son, Faris.
"You must inquiry our prince as to why on earth the notorious Faris is restraining himself from a war. His actions, his irresolution, ya sheikh, indicates that it involves his personal life." AbdulAziz hollered, eyes narrowed into slits.
Slowly, very slowly Faris al Fursan rotated around to face AbdualAziz and that moment the birds took flight. The nefarious beast crossed the two feet distance between them in a stride and glared down at AbdulAziz. Raghad bit her lip at the look that displayed on his taut face. She had never witnessed such a diabolic countenance on that man's face, it was as if his forbearance hung from a thin tread that threatened to split any moment. The crowd went deadly silent, even Sheikh Mubarak shook his head at the man who so desired to unbolt his own doom.
Faris's lips moved but Raghad could not hear what he verbalized, she knew it was something immensely minacious that caused blood to drain from AbdualAziz's face and welcome a visible shiver to travel down the man's spine. However, the man soon recovered from his fear and dared enough to glower back at Faris. "If you do not wish to avenge my brother, groom. I shall do it myself." AbdulAziz bellowed and in swift moment drew his sword.
A startled shriek sounded from Raghad's lips at the raised sword over Faris's head. Before she could react, before the crowd could overpower the trauma of AbdulAziz's actions, Faris charged in like a poisonous snake. His right hand encased around the man's hand that held the sword, and left hand enrolled itself like a viper around his throat. A chilly dread descended upon the crowd right before Raghad's eyes, Nasser proceeded to his brother's aid and sheikh Mubarak stood rooted to his ground.
Ya Allah!
Faris wrenched AdbulAziz's hand and the sword landed next to their feet taking sand with it, his other hand that was around his opponent's throat remained there. Raghad glanced at Nasser, why was the gigantic man not aiding his sibling? Her petrified eyes trailed back to her unwanted spouse in time to see that with no effort what so ever Faris propelled AbdulAziz and the man toppled over and landed on his hands on the ground. Knight of knight stood there, wind blowing his thobe attempting to chain his fury, however his gloomy, dead eyes burned with fiendish fire.
After a moment Faris turned his back to the witless man and orated."I, Faris Mubarak AlBorkan, son of sheikh Mubarak shall visit the Rashideens and command them to gather an assembly of the elders and the man, we Borkans claim to be a murderer. If the man is indeed culpable, I shall behead him myself, if not," he walked to body that lay on palm mats. "I shall investigate this crime personally and when I do find the real sinner, the retribution will, by Allah, be unendurable." Faris oathed, eyes on the crowd challenging them to refuse. His eyes, those inky eyes at last landed on his father, the men peered at each other for a moment, then Mubarak sighed.
"Very well, then you must depart now." Sheikh Mubarak gave his orders.
Faris gave a nod then his sharp, eagle-like eyes collided with Raghad's wide ones. The bride gulped and took a step back when Faris made his way towards her. She clenched her jaw, aware how her wide, teary eyes gaped at her spouse. Faris passed his father eyes on her with his fists curled and face dispassionate. Raghad took another step back when he was three feet away from her, her heart commenced to pulsate like drums and ears shrilled. The man when a feet away from his bride averted his gaze towards the house behind Raghad and instantly, she knew what he indicated. When the knight walked past her, Raghad turned around and followed him back to the house.
His rigid form stormed away from the crowd towards the door of the house. There, by the wooden doors stood a person who's mere sight simmered the blood in Raghad's body. However, seeing Adhari stand by the door that moment did not matter for she had far more significant obstacles that loomed over her like dark clouds. Adhari's hazel eyes stayed on Faris, clearly desiring him to regard her presence. The knight, on the other hand kept his head straight when he reached the door and with no difficulty, bend down and ambled passed Adhari. Raghad frowned when the woman looked at her with a glare in her eyes and she knew that Faris had not gifted her, her wish. Somehow that thought lulled the raging flames in her, just a little.
The bride walked in the house hastily attempting to follow her spouse down the courtyard into the main room and through the hallway. That was where Raghad gathered her fortitude to question him, she damped her chapped lips. "You do not believe in these accusations, do you?"
Faris did not respond right away, Raghad opened her mouth to question him again but halted. "Prepare yourself sheikha, was it not you who desired to visit her tribe? Well this is your opportunity." Faris hissed, then pushed open the wooden door of their chamber.
"Pardon?" Raghad sucked in a breath, muddled. Her confused eyes surveyed as her spouse snatched a leather pouch and hurled a thobe in the pouch. He then turned to the shelve and grabbed a sheathed dagger.
"Do not make me have a change of mind, ya bin-ash-sheikh." The tone he conversed in howled of the savage rage that ripped his senses.
"I will not move an inch before you give me your word that you will not harm Badr." Raghad stood and clenched her fists.
The monster halted his moves and rotated his head to look at her from the corner of his eye. If the hatred that kindled in his eyes was directed at her on another day, Raghad knew she would have shivered from terror. Now, however the amount of trepidation that roared in her form caused an unearthly audacity to ascend in her form and return his cold glare.
"Do not ignite my patience for only the last drop is left, Raghad." He growled.
Her lips parted when he pronounced her name for the first time, even though his cold voice could have tore burning logs it did something else to her naive heart. A new wave of anxiety coated her form just from hearing her name from his mouth and Raghad so blindlessly blamed it on the fear that he caused in her. With another inhale of breath Raghad shook her head and moved around the chamber with her thoughts in a turmoil, and nerves shattered into uncountable pieces.
