Crackles. Thats what I'd describe the noises I was hearing. I slowly opened my eyes and spotted the source of the noise immediately.
The wood in the fireplace was crisp, and enlightened by soft flames. The fire danced and little flames were spit out, only to fall back down.
For a second I was mesmerized. I stared for a few more moments until I finally took in my surroundings.
Alexanders house.
I straightened up and glanced down. I had a thin blanket draped across my body and my head had been resting on a soft, plush, purple pillow, that was propped up on the edge of the sofa.
I rubbed my head slightly confused as I stood up and glanced at Alexanders vacant armchair.
However I was even more confused when I glanced to the blurry glass doors that revealed it was indeed night time.
Great. I fell asleep.
With a sigh I breathed in and went to take a step forward but slowed my movements when I smelled food. Food that suspiciously smelled like chicken.
It reminded me of all the family dinners I once had with my family and I suddenly became all emotional.
Shaking my head I looked around and tried to follow the smell. I heard soft humming and walked through oak french doors, only to see Alexander closing an oven with one hand and the other holding a tray with cooked chicken.
"You're sober?" I couldn't help but wonder as I took in his casual state.
Alexander placed the tray on the marble table and looked up. He grinned and nodded his head.
"It's been several long hours. Hungover, but sober. I must say, you are a heavy sleeper," he said with an amused tone and I crossed my arms.
"Oh? And how so?" I asked.
"You mean besides the fact I woke up and got startled by your presence and knocked over a vase?" Alexander said with a raised eyebrow and I looked at him blankly.
"...a vase made out of glass that shattered pretty much a meter away from you?"
I narrowed my eyes at him.
"Liar," I replied and Alexander looked offended.
"Check the dust bin! Its full of glass!" He exclaimed and I rolled my eyes.
I glanced down at the bench the tray was on. It had stools surrounding it and several bottles of wine were lined up.
I looked back at Alexander who watched me closely and I couldn't help but feel awkward.
In that moment I couldn't help but recall our kiss and my cheeks most likely reddened.
Alexander tilted his head and I wondered if he was thinking what I was thinking.
"Victoria," he asked steadily and I raised an eyebrow in question, "-I don't mean to be rude but, what the hell are you doing in my house?" Alexander asked.
I looked at him a little shocked but then I grinned.
"You don't remember?" I said and Alexander shook his head.
"Am I missing something?" He asked with furrowned eyebrows and I immediately recalled what he told me about Rebecca, his sister.
I didn't know whether to tell him or not. Would it be a big deal? I mean, he was pretty skeptical about it in the first place and if the roles were reversed I'd definitely not be happy.
"Not really," I shrugged, "-I came here to discuss some sort of plan. I'm getting impatient. You were drunk when I came here," I explained indifferently and Alexander nodded crossing his arms, his biceps capturing my attention.
"How'd you fall asleep?"
"You must of bored me to death," I grinned.
This time Alexander rolled his eyes but grinned nethertheless as he opened up a kitchen cabinet and got out two tall wine glasses. He placed them onto the bench and picked up a wine bottle, examining it.
"Wine?" Alexander asked and I nodded my head as I walked over to the bench and pulled out a stool to sit on.
"Red or white?"
"Red," I replied.
"Bitter or sweet?"
"Sweet."
Alexander looked up at me for a moment before looking back down and picking up a new bottle of wine. Pouring me a glass he slid it across the table and I gave him a small smile, as he did the same for himself.
Alexander leaned forward and rested his elbows onto the table as his dark eyes held mine.
"You should eat as well. You're hungry," Alexander stated and pushed over a plate with a knife and fork on top, a napkin neatly folded underneath.
"I am?" I inquired confused and I looked at him in question.
"Your stomach grumbled in your sleep," Alexander smirked and I mentally scowled at myself.
Lovely.
"Quite loudly if I might add."
Kill me now.
I just gave him a tight smile as I felt embarrassment settle in the pit of my stomach.
Sighing I reached forward and cut a peice of the chicken and placed it on my plate. I had to admit, I was starving.
Slowly eating I glanced up at Alexander to see him swirling his wine glass and staring intently into his beverage.
"Did you have anything in mind?" Alexander suddenly asked.
"Anything in mind for what?" I asked as I used my fork to chip off a peice of chicken and place it in my mouth.
"Revenge."
I tightly swallowed the peice of chicken in my mouth and grabbed my wine glass taking a sip, the cool liquid sliding down my throat.
"I want to start of with Catelyn," I muttered darkly, "-then Max. And then I want to finish of with a big bang. With Marcus I mean."
Alexander looked at me for a second before he nodded his head.
"Done. We start off with Catelyn. If you ask me, I say we start off slowly. You know, little things. Make our way up," Alexander said in a tone I haven't heard before. He leaned forward and ran a hand through his disheveled hair.
"They deserve to suffer. For as long as possible," Alexander added in a deadly tone and I slowly chewed.
"Indeed. I want to start right away. With Catelyn, " I said almost excitedly and Alexander grinned.
"I have something in mind," Alexander whispered and smiled a sadistic smile. He leaned back and stood up straight, before grabbing his glass and walking back towards the living room.
I got off the stool and also grabbed my glass as I followed Alexander back into the previous room.
He sat back down on his armchair and I returned to the brown sofa.
"What do you have in mind?" I asked impatiently and Alexander grinned.
Alexander opened his mouth to speak but then frowned. He leaned back and rubbed his chin.
"What? Tell me," I insisted.
"I was going to ask what Catelyn feared most. However, how on earth would we know that?"
What Catelyn fears most?
I also leaned back, taking another sip of my wine. I thought for a few moments then it clicked.
What Catelyn feared most? Easy.
"I know," I stated with a smirk and Alexander looked at me expectantly.
"Spiders," I all but blurted out, "-cockroaches! Ah... insects!" I blabbered and sat up straight immediately.
"Shes some what a murderer and shes afraid of what? Spiders?" Alexander said in disbelief and let out a snort.
"...wait," Alexander paused giving me a strange look, "-how do you know that?"
I opened my mouth to speak but closed it back. Shifting in my seat I cleared my throat.
"So? What did you have in mind?" I asked ignoring his question and Alexander looked at his glass in thought.
"I thought it would've been something else," Alexander mumbled to himself, "...not spiders."
I sat quietly and watched Alexander think. I noticed the way he furrowned his eyebrows and clenched his jaw.
"It's going to sound stupid. And it depends how afraid she is of spiders and insects," Alexander began and looked at me for approval.
"I'm all ears."
"Early tomorrow morning we deliver a box to Catelyns doorstep," Alexander slowly said and I grinned straight away seeing were he was heading.
"Classy. Real classy Alexander."
Alexander ignored me with a roll of his eyes and continued, "-then of course, after the doorbell rings she opens the door. Sees no one around and well spots the box. Curiosity takes over and she opens it. We watch from afar and well, enjoy."
I looked at Alexander with a 'really' look.
"Seriously?" I couldn't help but ask.
Alexander simply smiled and leaned forward.
"I said we were starting off slowly didn't I?" He asked softly and I narrowed my eyes.
"Since when do you make the rules?" I asked and he looked at me with a teasing smile, before breaking eye contact and grabbing his glass.
"Say," I said suddenly, "-how do you plan on getting a box of spiders delievered to Catelyns house?" I asked.
I mean sure, the man had connections but spiders? Delievered in a box? Seriously?
"Oh Victoria," Alexander cooed.
"I'm Alexander Celeste. I can make anything happen. "
