As soon as I heard his deep booming voice I froze and so did everyone else on the floor but when they realize he is not mad at them they continued with what they were doing while trying to hear what the boss is mad about. I turn around having a déjà vu moment. I'm pretty sure something like this happened before but before I could recall when this happen Mr. Giovanni continued talking in an angry tone.



"What are you ladies doing here talking and not doing your work?! This is the second time I caught the five of you slacking off. Do you know how many work you can get done with the time you just waited? Well?" he asks us.



I was just speechless and did not know how to answer him. From the corner of my eye I look at the sluts and they look like they just peed in their under wear. They so don't know how to control there fear of him while I am also afraid of him but I don't show it. I keep my face void of any emotion; waiting for him to continue with his lecture even though it is not my fault I said nothing.



He looks at us waiting for and answer then the leader of the sluts Veronica suddenly has the guts to speak but of course what came out of her mouth is nothing but lies. "It is not our fault. She is the one who is disturbing us from our work! We were just walking to our desk when she came in front of us and block our way!" Veronica said in her high pitch voice that even a deaf person can hear her.

Mr. Giovanni turns towards me with his piercing glare and looks like he is about to scold me but then in a calm voice he asks me "is it true?" I wanted to shout at him if he is blind for even considering that she is right when he himself saw that she was the one who was blocking my way but I held my tongue and kept my face neutral as I answer him calmly. "No. What Miss Veronica said just now was a complete lie". Her minions is about to argue with me but the boss interrupted them.



"Enough! This had better the last time I catch the five of you slacking off. If I catch you one more time there would some serious consequences. Understand?" He said in a hard tone. "B-but-" Veronica stutters trying to argue but the boss apparently had enough interrupted her and reprimands her.



"I had enough of you I know you just lied to me. Your desk is behind you to the right so Miss Jones could not possibly be blocking your way. If I see you making problems or lie to me one more time you will be fired on the spot. Understand?" He said to her in a steely voice. Veronica paled almost turning white under all her make up. Her minions also paled looking very terrified and they were trembling.

"Understand?!" the boss raised his voice at her and she stammers a "yes sir". I was just enjoying watching Veronica getting threatened by the boss with a smug small smirk on my face when he turns towards me demanding me to get his schedule for today ready and wait until he calls me to his office for further notice.

I just nodded and said "yes sir" then walk around the sluts to get to my desk without looking behind me. As soon as I got to my desk I quickly check my email for any important that I miss. Lucky for me nothing to serious happened while I was away. Once I finish that I check his schedule for today and sort it then print it out. I manage to finish within an hour so I relax a bit before the boss calls for me.

When I am relaxing did I realize that I still have my job and that he did not replace me someone else. I was too caught up with my nerves then with Veronica to notice that he has not fired me. I was doing the happy dance in my head when there is notice in my computer saying I have a new email. I cleared my head and got ready to work but when I open the mail it is from Beth asking me to watch the video she sent me with the email.

I am a little hesitant to watch it but my curiosity won out so I click open the video. To my surprise it is about Marcus's trial. He is standing in front of the judge with his lawyer beside him. I don't why he needs a lawyer when obviously he is guilty with so many witnesses furthermore me and Beth already gave our testimony. I guess the lawyer is to lessen his punishment.

I unintentionally clench my hands thinking he deserves to rot in jail for the rest of his life and not to escape with only a few years behind bars. Marcus's lawyer are talking a lot trying to defend his client but even I who is watching from a video can tell that it is hopeless and that the lawyer is about to run out of things to say in order to defend his client.

I can't believe some lawyers will defend the criminals just so they can get a lot of money. I guess people will do anything for money these days. Anyway after the lawyer finish talking the judge is looking over some papers on his desk. I am a ball of nerves hoping that he gets put behind bars for the rest of his life. The judge lifts his hammer and I held my breath until the judge pronouns Marcus Evans guilty and is to put behind bars for 60 years then slam the hammer did I breath out in relief.

I am not satisfied with his punishment but it is good enough at least I'm pretty sure me and Beth will never meet him again in this life. With that worry out of the way I feel lighter and happier than ever. I sent a quick message to Beth on my phone telling her to meet me at Rakuzan the one near my office on Friday to celebrate about never having to see Marcus again and a few seconds later I got a reply saying she will meet me there on Friday at 5:30pm. I smile then send her a smiley face afterwards I shut down the phone and look at the laptop and was just about to click the close button for the video when I got the call from Mr. Giovanni to come to his office. I made sure I have everything I needed and that I look presentable then I took a deep breath then let it out and started walking in the direction of his office.

His office is not that far from my desk so it less than 30 seconds to get there. Even though I have been working for him for a while I'm still nervous to see him and my heart still beats like crazy but steel my nerves and put on a poker face while knocking on the door two times and waited until I hear his deep baritone voice telling me to come in.

I turn the door knob to the right the push the door open. I am hit by the coldness of the room. It is almost two times colder than out side and I shiver a little because I am only wearing a knee length pencil skirt and thin but not thin enough to be see through, long sleeve blouse. I look in front of me and there he is sitting behind his huge desk with the normal glare. His blazer is sling behind his chair and his tie is loosening at the top with his hair a bit messy giving him that sexy messy look.

"Miss Jones I trust you have prepared what I ask you for?" his voice brought me out of my thoughts and to my horror I feel my cheeks warm up with embarrassment at my thoughts. I cleared my throat then hand him the files that contain his schedule and other important document he needs to look over.

He took the files and I made sure our fingers won't touch. Once he has the files he checks the documents inside but his expression never changes. It is always the signature glare that he shows to his workers. After a few minutes of flipping the pages he put the documents on his desk then took his pen from the pen holder and sign the documents that needed approval from him then once he is done he hands me back the files.

I took it and ask "will that be all sir?" "No wait a moment. I have something to tell you about" he said while making a wait gesture with his hands. I look at him warily wondering what he could possibly want to talk to me about. "What is it that you want to talk to me about sir?" I ask thinking if he is about to fire me but he interrupted my thoughts.

"It's about your slacking off and you need to catch up with work that you missed when you were on leave of absence" he said while his head is on his hands and his arms on the table. I look at him offended that he also blaming me for the incident this morning when clearly it was not my fault. "With all due respect sir it was Miss Stone who started it I was just walking to my desk when she block my way" I told him as polite as I could manage because I am really angry he is blaming me for something I did not do.

"I know Miss Stone started it but you could have just walk away and not entertain her obnoxious behavior" he said with that intense grey eyes fixed on me. I was about to rebuff him telling how could I walk away from her when she and her minions cornered me but the look in his eyes persuaded not to argue with him. I even started to sweat out of fear and glad I'm not trembling under his intense stare which will make me look weak. So I did not say anything back and waited until he continues with my face void of any emotion. He looks at my face for a few seconds and when he is satisfied I won't talk back he continues.

"Good it seems that you understand. Now I do not want to hear or see a repeat of this morning again or there will be consequences that you have to face. Have I made myself clear?" he some how made his voice sound very threatening making it clear that it is not a threat but a promise. I gulp and gave a weak "yes sir" then scolding myself for being so weak. He nodded his head the dismissed me but not before telling me that I have only five days to catch up with work before he cuts my pay check I just nodded then walk out of his office as fast as I can and closing the door before I brusquely walk to my desk.

As soon as I sat on my cushion chair I let out a deep sigh of relief. I survived talking with him and even though I still got into trouble I still have my job. I quickly snap out of my thoughts when I remember that I still have a ton of work to be done and I have only five days to complete it. I got into work mode and tried to finish as much work as I possibly can today.

I was just in the middle of arranging the boss's meeting and I was so focus on it that I didn't realize someone is standing in front of my desk until that person spoke. The voice of the person who interrupted me sounds like someone very familiar. "Hey Scarlett I know you are busy right now but its lunch time. So can you a company me to eat at the café?" I recognize that voice as Catherine. I look up sure enough it is her standing in front of my desk.

"Its lunch time already?" I said a little surprise then check the wall clock and sure enough it is already 1:30pm. Wow I have been working for four hours straight that's a first. "Sorry of course I will a company you. I just have too many to catch up with I did realize the time flew by" I told her sheepishly while rubbing the back of my head. "It's okay I know you have a lot to catch up with and a little break will relax you're my mind. It will do you some good to relax once in a while" she advises me.

"Thanks" I said getting up from my chair and grabbing my wallet then together we walk towards the elevator. Luckily the elevator is open as other people were just getting inside. We quickly enter right before the door closes. It is a bit crowded but it is only for a minute then we reach the ground floor. We got out of the elevator and saying a quick hi to the new receptionist then walk out of the office building towards the café shop that is only fifty meters away.

Once we enter the café a waiter showed us to our table which is beside the window so we can see people walking past on the busy street. After the waiter took our orders and left I ask what I have been wondering all day. "What happen to Sarah? Why is she not working at the office?" I ask her with concern. "Oh! Sarah I almost forgot. Her son fell down the stairs at school and is in the hospital right now. She ask for a leave of absence for a week to look after him" Catherine explain her voice and face turns sad.

"Oh My God!" I gasp; I did not know she had a son. "Will he be ok?" I ask hoping its good news. "So far from what she told me he's out of danger but the doctor said they need to keep him in the hospital a little longer to make sure he doesn't have a concussion" she further explains. "Thank god he's okay" I let out a relief sigh.

"Sarah's son is not the only one that went to the hospital" she hinted at me. I gave her a confuse look until I remember that I was just discharge from the hospital two days ago. I give her a sheepish smile. "Ha ha I forgot" I said looking apologetically at her. "Forgot! You had me worried for days when you did not show up from work and I had to ask the boss what happened to you and all he told me was that you were at the hospital recovering. I tried to ask for more information but he would not answer anymore question so I had to wait until you came back to work to find out what happen to you" she said all that in one breath and breathe out once she finish speaking.

I look at her a bit shock that she was that worried about me. "I'm sorry that I made you worry so much about me but I'm fine now nothing too serious happen to me" I told her touched by her feelings of worried for me. "You better tell me everything that had happen while you were absent from work and don't leave anything out you owe me for making me worry about you" her voice fill with anticipation waiting for my explanation so I told her everything that had happen from the beginning until the end leaving nothing out as she requested but I had to pause first because the food just arrive and I waited until the waiter placed all our order and left before I start.

She remain quite throughout my story listening intently and only when I was done speaking did she exploded in a rant saying he should have gotten a worst punishment than that and if she ever crosses paths with him she will kick him in the jewels until he wont be able to reproduce anymore. I crack up laughing when she said that because I am trying to picture it and all I can imagine is she kicking him in the jewels while wearing a skirt in the middle of a street. Once I calm down I look at her and she had an indignant expression on her face. "I am just trying to defend you and you have the nerve to laugh at me" she said that with an offended look.

"I'm sorry it's just that I tried to imagine you kicking him in the jewel and it was just too funny" I said with a slight chuckle. She just "Humph" at me. "I'm sorry. I really appreciate you looking out for me but I don't think I will ever meet him again so you don't need to worry about him harming me again me" I sooth her. I mange to cheer her up with other unimportant subject.

While we were chatting we somehow manage to finish our food and when I look at the clock I almost choke on my drink. "What is it? What happen?" she ask worriedly while handing me a napkin. "Thank you. Its just I have to get back to work it is already late" I told her while wiping my mouth with the napkin Catherine just gave me. She look behind her at the wall clock and nodded. "Yes we should go. Can I get the bill please?" she asks the waiter that was passing by. The waiter nodded and said to wait for a moment he will get the bill.

"You know that you need to take it easy with work right since you just got out of the hospital" she advises me. "I know. I will" I told her. She didn't look convince and was about to say something but the waiter interrupted her. "Here is your bill Madam" he said politely. She looks up at him and said thanks.

I gave her some money to pay for my part of the meal but she didn't let me saying it is her treat. I tried to argue but she didn't budge so I gave up and let her pay for everything. "Thank you so much for lunch Catherine". "Don't worry about it. It was nothing" she brushes me of. I let it go because I didn't want to argue any further about this and change the topic to what happen in the office while I was absent.

She told me nothing much happen except Veronica and her minions creating problems for other female workers. Everyone on the 39th floor does not like her and wants her fired but is too afraid to say anything to the boss. She also told me that everyone was thrill when Veronica got shouted by the boss and one more mistake from her she is fired. She let me in on a little secret about what all the girls plan to do in order to get her fired.

I am so engross with talking to Catherine that I didn't realize that we reach the office already. We bid farewell to each other and went to our respective desk. I continued my work until it was time to go home and I was glad I didn't get called by Mr. Giovanni. I stretch my stiff arms from sitting in one position for so long then save all my documents afterwards shut down the laptop. Once that is done I got out of my chair grab my work bag and purse making sure I have everything before leaving my desk.

I said a quick good bye to Catherine and got on the elevator. After a minute the elevator 'ding' and the doors open with everyone rushing to get out of the elevator. I said a quick good bye to Sarah's momentary replacement and walk to my car. Once I started the car and on my home did I realize that I never found out what Sarah's replacement's name. That is totally rude of me so I made a resolve to talk to her tomorrow.

I reach home at 6:00pm and once I park my car in front of the house I turn off the engine and got of the car grabbing my stuff from the back seat than walk to the front door. I was just about to insert the key when the door open with a whoosh and standing inside the house was Beth in her sleeping attire. "Welcome home!" she greets me. I just roll my eyes at her and taking off my shoes before entering the house and putting all the keys I have into the bowl on the kitchen table.

"That's rude! I am greeting and you just ignore me" she complain in a whiny voice that she knows I hate. I let out a tired sigh. "Thank you. Now if you will excuse me I am tired and in need of a bath" I told her not able to give her the enthusiasm she wants. "Fine then I will just watch tv" she pouted. I just nodded at her then went to my room dump all my stuff on the cushion chair.

Then went to the bathroom to bath. After 20 minutes soaking in the bathtub I got out looking like a prune but refresh. I wrap a towel around me then walk out the bathroom and walk to my closet to get dressed. Once that is done I had nothing to do so I went to the study table at the corner of the room that has my laptop on it to do a bit of researching about Mr. Giovanni. I am curious to know about his background and the internet is the only place I can search.

So I open my laptop and keyed in the password then went to Google. I type in Ricardo Giovanni and after a few seconds there is a lot of website that pop up. I chose Wikipedia as that is the most reliable source. Then a few seconds after I click on it the website appeared with a picture of him in a suit at the top right corner of the page. Even in pictures he looks good I shook my head to stop my thoughts and click on the history link.

Immediately it showed an essay about his life. I read from the top and found many things about him that I didn't know before like how he is an only child of a famous business man in Brazil, he is also a hard working person who started helping his father at the tender age of five, and he is one of the youngest in his batch to graduate Harvard. 'Wow' I thought. He is amazing no wander he is the CEO of the Giovanni Empire at such a young age.

I feel like a loser compare to him. I continued reading and found out he has never been seen with a woman before except his ex wife of two years. I am intrigue about this ex wife of his so I never thought he is the husband material so I read further and discovered that she and him met at French café where she was working at and apparently fell in love. After two years of dating they decided to tie the knot.

They had a small wedding with only friends and family but it is said that none of the bride's family showed up only friends at the Giovanni's estate. As far as anyone knows they were happy for two years when the wife wanted a divorce. No one knows the reason why she wanted the divorce everything was hidden carefully so that no one finds out. Until today no one knows what happened to his ex wife.

Is she insane to divorce a man like him? No there must be some reason she wanted to divorce him. I read further to find out who she is and once I find her name on the last paragraph there is even a picture of her I choke on my saliva, speechless and at that moment there is knock on my door. It is Beth asking if she can come in and I choke out a yes.

She enters the room and once she saw my face she is at my side at once asking what happened and if I am okay. I just nodded my head not able to speak yet. She slap my face not hard but enough to pull me out of my shock state. "What happened?" she asks again. I just manage to say

"M-My boss's ex wife is my s-sister"
