Gemma's P.O.V
So apparently my navigating skills were improving after all because I ended up getting us back to the entrance. Sure I made a few wrong turns but the end result was the same.
I felt someone brush up against me as we were walking and I turned, fully expecting it to be Archer because once again, that boy didn't understand the concept of personal space, but instead found Dylan standing next to me.
"So, do you know where we're going or are we just taking in the scenery?" he asked.
For some unexplained reason I glanced over my shoulder at Archer to see Rose holding his hand and looking up at him with the widest smile on her face. I had no idea how she could be smiling at a time like this but I was glad to see it. It made sense that Archer of all people could make her smile after what she'd been through. I mean who wouldn't smile while looking at a face like his?
Woah. Where did that come from?
I quickly turned back around ignoring the warmth spreading throughout my face from my thoughts and found Dylan staring at me with a knowing look on his face.
"Why are you looking at me like that?"
Dylan shook his head, that look never leaving his face.
"I just asked you a question but apparently you were too busy checking him out to notice." Dylan gestured to Archer with his head.
If it was even possible my face became even hotter and I knew it probably looked like a beet now.
"W-what are you talking about?"
Dylan just shook his head.
"Don't play dumb. I saw what happened back there. I'd say you wanted to give him a lot more than just a simple thank you and a hug for saving you if y'all know what I mean." Dylan wiggled his eyebrows.
My face was on fire.
"Give who a thank you?" I jumped at the sound of Archer's voice. When had he gotten so close?
I turned around and was now more aware than ever of how close we were.
"Um...I- He...ugh...what?"
Great job Gemma. Way to show off your great speaking skills.
Dylan cleared his throat and when I looked back at him he had one eyebrow raised almost as if he was daring me to deny what he had just said.
I didn't have time for this. We had a bunch of psychotic masked lunatics running around playing a game of extreme hide-n-seek. There was no time to talk about my love life. Not that I had one.
"It's nothing. Let's just keep moving." I shot Dylan a glare before turning around and hurrying forward.
I was so busy trying to get away from Dylan and Archer and stop myself before I embarrassed myself any further that I didn't even notice it. Not until it was too late.
The same time I heard Archer and Dylan scream my name was the same time I tripped over something and a black shadow darted out and struck me across the head.
Why the fuck did this keep happening to me?! Not that I wanted anything bad to happen to the others but there were other people down here too dammit. It's like this entire place was out to get me.
I swear I had the luck of a black cat who lived under a ladder.
I felt pain shoot through my head from the impact as I hit the ground. My vision started to go in and out of focus and I was vaguely aware of something swinging in front of me.
I groaned in pain and slowly rolled onto my side and it was just my luck that I happened to roll onto the side where I had dislocated my rib earlier. I sucked in a sharp breath and tried to ignore the pain and sit up.
Bad idea.
As soon as I tried to sit up the tunnel seemed to tilt completely to the right and I fell back down with a thump.
I heard hurried footsteps and then someone was touching my shoulder.
"Gemma! Gemma are you okay?"
When my vision came back into focus I saw Archer, Dylan, and Rose all hovering over me with worried expressions on their faces.
I tried to sit up a second time but Archer gently pushed me back down and said "Don't move."
I groaned again. This was like deja vu. Wasn't I in this same position just a few hours ago?
I closed my eyes again and felt someone's fingers gently touching a spot on my head which made we wince.
I opened my eyes and swatted the hand away.
"Stop that unless you want to lose your fingers." I muttered.
Archer shook his head and just grinned at me while Dylan frowned. Rose still looked worried.
"What just happened?" I asked.
Dylan reached over me and grabbed something by my head. When he leaned back he was holding a decent sized rock in his hand.
My eyes widened in shock.
"Is that what hit me?"
Dylan nodded.
Archer leaned forward and tapped my forehead with his finger. "It's a good thing you have such a thick skull huh?"
"Shut up." I muttered. "How did that thing not bash my skull in?"
Archer smirked before answering. "You have serious hand, eye, and apparently foot coordination. You tripped on the wire that set this off and the rock only clipped your head. If you weren't so damn clumsy it probably would've been a lot worse."
"Thanks, you really know how to make a girl feel better." I said.
Note the sarcasm.
Archer just shrugged. "It's what I'm here for. Now," he said gesturing to me with his hand. "Can you sit up?"
Before I could answer Dylan had reached forward and slowly began to help me sit up. He put one hand on the small of my back and the other on my shoulder.
When I was sitting upright the world still seemed to be tilting but it was slowly starting to still. I also noticed that Dylan hadn't removed his hand from my back either.
Out of the corner of my eye I could see Archer switching between glaring at Dylan and then his hand that was on my back.
"Um, I think I can stand now." I said.
Both Dylan and Archer reached their hand out for me to take at the same time.
I glanced between both boy's hands. I was suddenly feeling very awkward.
I glanced at their hands one more time before ignoring them both and pushing myself to my feet.
I swayed a little on my feet and once again Dylan was there placing one arm around my shoulder and the other on my arm.
I gave him a small smile. "Thanks, I'm fine." I took a small step away from him and cleared my throat.
"What do you think you're doing mister?"
Everyone looked down at Rose, who had just spoken. She was looking up at Dylan with her arms crossed and an angry pout on her face.
Dylan frowned. "What are you talking about?"
Rose pointed her little finger at him accusingly.
"You're not suppose to help Gemma, her Prince Charming is." she stated.
My what?
"Her what?" Dylan voiced my unasked question.
Rose huffed in annoyance.
"Her Prince Charming." She said again but this time she pointed at Archer.
"He's suppose to help her, not you."
I glanced at Archer to see that he was already looking at me with an unreadable expression on his face. Then just like that it was gone and it was replaced with his usual smirk.
He took a few steps forward until he was right in front of me. Then without warning he slipped his arm around my waist and pulled me close to his side, being careful not touch my sore ribs.
As I was staring up at him with a "What the hell are you doing?" look on my face, he shot a smug look at Dylan who didn't look too happy now.
"You heard her. Only her Prince Charming is suppose to help, so why don't you go and find one of the ugly stepsisters?"
I couldn't help the small bit of laughter that came out of my mouth.
Dylan rolled his eyes and turned around mumbling a "Whatever" before he started forward again. After a moment, obviously satisfied with herself, Rose turned and followed him too.
I was about to do the same but Archer held me still.
I looked up at him with a frown. He waited until Dylan and Rose were a good distance away before he looked down at me and spoke.
"Gemma there's something I need to tell you."
The tone of his voice plus the feeling of his hand still on my waist wasn't doing my attention span any good. I could barely focus.
"Right now?" All I wanted to do right now was to try and find my way out of here as soon as possible.
Archer nodded. "I'm not sure if I'll get another chance to tell you, so I might as well do it now."
"W-what is it?"
Real smooth Gemma. Real smooth. Keep stuttering.
Archer took a deep breath. "Gemma, you remember when I said that there was--."
"Gemma, Archer! You need to come and see this!" Dylan's voice interrupted whatever Archer was about to say.
Archer glanced in the direction Dylan and Rose had gone before he sighed heavily. He took his hand from my hip and stepped away. I instantly missed his touch but then I quickly shook that thought away. I shouldn't miss anything from him, especially not his touch.
Before Archer could walk away though, I grabbed his wrist. Curiosity was going to kill me if I didn't know what he was going to say.
"Wait, what were you about to say?"
Archer shook his head.
"Doesn't matter." There was a pause. "We should probably go and see what they want." With that he turned around and headed in the direction of Dylan and Rose.
After a minute I followed, the whole time wondering what it was that he had wanted to tell me.
