Chapter 9

NICOLE'S POV

My heart was in my mouth. I wanted to say something but I couldn't. Tears sprung in my eyes as I mumbled, "I..I'm sorry, Alison...he..he drugged me and I told him w..where you studied at..I..I'm so sorry!"

I started sobbing and Alison looked at me, concerned. "It's ok..Nic. I knew he was going to come for me one day." She let out a faint smile, but that soon disappeared when the door was kicked open.

I flinched at the sudden noice and looked who the person at the door was.

It was Ben..

He strolled towards me and kneeled down in front of me. My heart beat vigorously as I leaned back against the wall, but he came closer.

And then..he hugged me. I was too shocked to do anything. But he quickly broke apart when a low voice echoed in the room," What is going on here?!" Josh looked at us, angry, and if looks could kill, I would have been dead right now.

Ben quickly whipped out a knife and held it against my neck. "DO NOT DO IT AGAIN OR ELSE!" He screamed fiercely.

When Josh finally left the room, Ben quickly put the knife back in his pocket.

He leaned towards my ear and let out a breath, sending shivers down my spine.

"Nic..I will protect you and get you out of here, I promise. Because..", he let out a shaky breath and continued," I am Ben, your big brother."

With that, he leaned furthur back and stood up. I looked up at him and his eyes were red, and there were tears streaming down his face.

"W..wait!" I yelled but he had already ran out of the room.

I leaned against the wall as I tried to process what just happened. Ben is really my big brother....and we were a team and we were going to get out. Together.

"Ermm..Nicole?" Alison questioned, looking at me.

"Hmm?" I asked.

"What was that about?" She asked worriedly.

"It's nothing, Alison." I told her, giving her a smile, to show that nothing was wrong.

She heaved a sigh of relief as she leaned back against the wall and closed her eyes. I watched her chest rise and fall as she took in long and deep breaths, before she fell asleep.

Then, I heard the door creak open. I stopped breathing and I looked worriedly at the door. Panic rushed through my veins but soon, panic turned to anger. I shot dagging looks at Beth, who was at the door.

Her head was hung low as she walked slowly towards me.

"What do you want?" I snapped at her.

Her lips trembled as she kneeled in front of me, just like what Ben did.

She took my hands and squeezed them. I tried to pull them away but she squeezed them tighter.

"Look, I..I'm really sorry, Nicole.. It was hard keeping this secret for years.." She took in a breath, ready to speak again, but I interrupted her.

"U have been doing this for..years?" I asked her, and it came out as a whisper.

Tears rolled down her face, but she continued.

"I..I have been doing this for three years..."

My heart sank. "S..so, you have been killing many innocent people..?" I asked and instantly, my heart shattered into a million pieces as she nodded her head.

"I needed to do this for money, Nicole! I need to support my family! Please forgive me, Nicole, please."she pleaded.

Tears streamed down my face and my vision once again blurred. I let out a shaky breath before I answered her with, "No. I can't do that and I don't think I ever will."

Beth looked at me, hurt, before letting my hands go. She stood up and whispered, "Okay." Before she walked out the door.

When she left, I couldn't stand it anymore. I started sobbing.

I couldn't believe that I was so gullible, thinking that SHE was my friend.
