A/N:Not Edited. Plus I'm uber tired couldn't sleep so I stayed awake just typing this. There is a blizzard type thing going on outside, so now i'm going to bed.
A few people have said my chapters are short and whatnot but I have to say that, if they are it's for a reason. I mean why put meaningless drabble in just for the sake of making them longer. The book in general is going to be long, (i.e. look at unconditional...) just not as long as Unconditional lol. Sometimes it's easier for me to end a chapter where I do.
For those that answered which 10 you think chelsea should pick to absorb the extra energy when she finds the Violins, Thanks for answering :) some of you named the people I chose...
Anyways, Enjoy :)
Chapter 17 – Oakley POV
Wakey wakey! “Ugh,” I groaned, stretching out, trying to ignore the call of my wolf Byrdie, but she was persistent, Wakey, Wakey! She called again, be quiet. She told me, and instantly my body seemed to become rigid, my eyes open peering in the darkness, inhaling, sniffing the air for scents that didn’t belong. Getting nothing I eased off the bed, leaving my pillow and bed sheet I carried into Ben’s room for the night.
I really hope you didn’t wake me up for me to do our exercises; we don’t have to do that anymore, and Chelsea’s going to help us train… I said tiptoeing out of the room, heading back to my own. Plopping on the bed tiredly I was so tired I just wanted to sleep some more, especially when I saw the clock, bold red numbers, 6:37am. I wiped the sleep from my eyes though, going to the bathroom to brush my teeth, after changing into black sports bra and t-shirt, the matching shorts Chelsea had in my basket as well. When we were back home, without the voices in my head I never did this. I didn’t need to workout, however when I did start hearing the voice in my head, not only was it trying to keep me calm, support me so I wouldn’t feel alone, it had told me to start training, exercising so that I could build up my endurance.
I snorted just thinking about it, but back then the voice nagged me for a week or so before I started doing just as I was now. Getting up an hour earlier than everyone in the house and doing crunches, push-ups, even searched for yoga on youtube and did that, when it came time to add running, I was stumped. I couldn’t leave the house while everyone was asleep, so instead I used allowance money I had saved up and bought a treadmill. I hadn’t understood at the time what was going on, why the voice wanted me to do this, but now it made sense.
So I began, hoping that by the time I finished my sets everyone else in the house would be awake, then I’d go for a short run. On my last set of crunches, I wasn’t expecting it, standing less than six feet away from me was a similarly dressed Chelsea, “Ahhhh!” I screamed, frightened, crawling, scampering away from her form, my heart racing, pounding and my stomach rolled uncomfortably. I didn’t scream loud, it cut off as soon as my senses got the better of me, but it was sharp and loud enough to wake up someone. There was a small ‘ummph,’ sound then I heard patting feet on the hardwood, rushing towards my room, the door flying open, with Uncle Grant searching the room wildly for danger, the bedside table lamp from his and Aunt Julia’s room.
The situation wasn’t funny, but his reaction coupled with Chelsea’s blank unafraid face did it for me, laughter bubbled up, “W-what-” I giggled, “What were you going to do with that?” I asked biting my lip, my body shaking. Crawling I went to the side of the bed, kneeling up to turn on the light, still giggling, “How did you get in here?” Uncle Grant asked Chelsea and even I had to lift a brow at him. "We were in a car one minute then in this house a second later-"
“Shush you,” he grumbled lowering the lamp, “What’s going on Chelsea?”
“Training,” she answered dryly.
“It’s seven a.m. we’re all sleeping…”
“You aren’t on vacation, but you’re right, I’m sure that criminals only attack after 9 a.m. when you’ve woken up.” Uncle Grant snorted, chuckling, “Proof, in case you didn’t look like each other,” he shook his head walking away. Standing I went to Chelsea, she eyed my clothing. “You thought I’d be coming?” she tilted her head. I shook mine, “No, I’ve been waking up an hour before everyone for almost a year, stretching, doing crunches, pushups, running…” she nodded.
“Good, your wolf isn’t lazy, she’s strong and wants you to be that way too,” I beamed, what happened to ‘I want to sleep more?’ Byrdie teased. Following Chelsea, she stopped at the alarm and I entered the code, the steel coverings lifted and revealed two of the men she had brought with her and one she hadn’t. The blonde one, and another that looked like him, the other guy, was tan, an olive type complexion, with nice hazel green eyes, more green than brown with a bit of blue mixed in.
“Oak, this is Jack, Casey – blonde shaggy hair guy – and-”
“Where is your little boss?” I asked, Jack snorted; Chelsea smiled, looked from me then to Casey, who just shook his head.
“She’s his mate Oakley,” Chelsea said and my eyes widened to the size of quarters if not larger, “Wait… like you and Gabriel are mates?” I asked stunted. Chelsea nodded, “So you have to wait until she is older… is that hard?” I asked softly.
“Nope,” Casey said smirking at me.
I gazed back incredulously, but he just shook his head, “I’m over one hundred years old Oakley, I’ve wanted to find my mate since I was your age… I found her now, so even though she’s little now, I’m okay with that. I know I found her, all those years of wondering if I had some how missed my chance, had her right in front of me and just hadn’t shifted yet to tell… all that time I spent worrying that maybe my mate had died… when I met her, found Ava… it was like all those years melted away. As did the fear that I missed my chance, now… I’m just someone she bosses around as a kid.”
“Good practice so she can boss you around when she’s older,” I nodded agreeing with him.
Jack snorted as did the other guy, “How come you weren’t this funny?” he teased Chelsea while Casey just pouted.
She eyed me, “she’s not being funny, she’s serious,” Chelsea shrugged but that only made Jack and the other guy laugh harder.
“Anyways, as I was saying, this is jack, and Casey, they are brothers, and this is Jamie; his wolf is my wolves brother,” again with the jaw dropping information, but I just nodded.
“Good, now were going to show you a demonstration of me being attacked, we aren’t going to do this with you right away, but I need you to understand what we are aiming for you to be able to do when we finally leave here. Like I told your uncle we aren’t on vacation, you’re going to have to work to get to a level where you can protect yourself. It’s not about fighting off an attacker either Oakley, sometimes you need to know within seconds if you can manage or fight and win. Because if you sense a wolf is much stronger than you, or something like that, you need to be able to get away. Find a way to escape, not because you’re a coward,” she paused, “because I want to live?” I offered up, she nodded and even though I didn’t have the bad jagged looking scar on my wrist anymore I still rubbed the spot.
Everything she was doing for me would – will be for nothing if I don’t have a will to live… exactly, I know you have problems and you are angry but you can use all those reasons inside that are just festering to get prepared, get trained and learn what these people are trying to teach you, Byrdie said, I nodded. Stopping after the second bob, now I’m answering the voices with physical gestures. Perfect.
“Now I want you to understand that I’m not in real danger here, but I am in pain. That’s another thing I need you to understand, an attacker isn’t going to stop attacking you because you’re hurt Oakley,” I nodded understanding, “they will have two incentives and they may overlap. Either to kidnap, hurt and then kill you, or just wanting to kill you pointblank.”
“I understand,” and I did, it made sense and Chelsea continued, “right now we will train you, but we won’t break your bones or do anything that will hurt you to that extent, not at all, but when you shift, we need to teach you to be able to fight off an attacker with your full shifter potential.”
“Is – is it hard?” I asked shyly.
“What?” Jack asked, but I’m sure Chelsea saw my thoughts, “Well say I’m fighting someone human, is it hard to control that strength? So far I haven’t really used it, or well I don’t think that I’ve used it…” my mind went into sifting through my memories checking, while I explained better, “What I mean is that is there a difference, say I’m in a regular fight with a human person, they aren’t trying to kill me just beat me up, will I be able to defend myself and not kill them?”
“It-”
“Oak-” Both Jack and Chelsea started speaking, but he let Chelsea finish instead, “I don’t know – we are – okay right now, just standing with you Oakley, I can feel a few things coming off you, things that you don’t… you aren’t even aware of it. It’s so secondary to you that I think it’s a part of who you are. The two I’m most worried about, your anger and the down side, your low self-worth which I’d bet fuels that anger…” I didn’t know what to say, I bit my lip, just feeling bare, naked and on display.
“I – I don’t feel the anger,” I said swallowing.
“Well I don’t feel angry?” it was supposed to be a statement but it surely didn’t sound that way, not to my own ears.
She shrugged, “Okay…” she wasn’t convinced but she dropped it.
“Just watch,” Chelsea said intensely, her voice matching her eyes, she focused on me completely; Jack, Casey and Jamie stepped away from her as she just stared at me, until she closed her eyes. Her body seemed to deflate, my heart was in my stomach, or felt that way, how could she be closing her eyes? My anxiety sky rocketed when I saw Jamie and Jack, heading for her, running hard. Their advance was filled with complete strength, the dirt beneath their feet flying behind them, and Chelsea still had her eyes closed. I felt someone come up from behind me, but I couldn’t pull my attention from Chelsea, but Julia, Ben and Uncle Grants scent was stronger when it wasn’t before. I knew it was them behind me.
It was fast, when each person was less than one foot away from her; ready to rip into her, Chelsea opened her eyes, but moved, kicking Jack with her left leg, the force behind it sent him stumbling back and her right hand deals Jamie a blow to his chest. Jamie recovered quickly, he held onto her hand turning her body, and while doing so he hit her right near her upper right rib. She took it, but didn’t shout or scream, just continued on, turning swiftly, and kicking Jamie right near his knee to the side, and he went down, grunting, but first I heard the moment that popped.
“What. The. Hell.” Uncle Grant muttered, as Jack charged for Chelsea again, while Jamie shifted into a wolf, one minute he was human the next, wolf and he gripped onto Chelsea’s ankle. Jack’s approach was different this time, before Chelsea could get the better of him, he fired three quick blows to her shoulder and then I heard that pop, a slight crunch, and I took a step back. Holy… I – I’d never – how. My mind couldn’t even process anything, but I also couldn’t look away from this at all. Chelsea was magnificent. They were getting her pretty well, continuing to attack while she did the same, throwing each other against trees, and it wasn’t that she was untouchable either. Oh no, I had heard a few of her bones break, saw when it hurt because she would go rigid then relax faster than I blinked. She was covered in blood, had opened cuts that were mixed with blood, on her right leg Jamie in wolf had actually bitten her.
And so it went on for ten minutes until shockingly, Jack shifted mid-air - his clothes shredding - but then so did Chelsea. Where there was once someone that shared my physical features, she had been replaced with the most beautiful white wolf. Down side? She didn’t stay white very long, because they continued fighting, Jack – I think – bit into her stomach, then to release him she dug her paws into him furiously, until he released her with a whine. A fight in this form went on for another 30 minutes of them, just literally kicking each other’s ass, until eventually Jamie whined and dragged himself away from her when Chelsea shifted back to her human form, kicking him on the side of his stomach.
And even though, I knew she was okay, it was alarming to watch when Jack went away as well, her body just fell to the ground in a heap, and she panted.
“Wow…” Ben said next to me, he had actually sat down and watched but I couldn’t move, I surveyed her injuries, her ankle looked like it had swelled greatly, her face was bloodied and she had a cut right on her jaw, her lip was busted, her eye on the right was mixed with blood and hair that stuck against her sweaty face.
The two wolves went to the bushes hiding themselves, but I pulled my attention back to Chelsea, “Yeah… it really is a good thing we’re staying because she didn’t lie… I – I’d never react to being attacked that way…” Aunt Julia said in a dazed robotic voice. Leaving them I went over to Chelsea, lowering myself down next to her, noting that her bruises were already turning dark and ugly. The deep cuts and minor scratches seemed to be healing as well, her chest rising and falling quickly, “Give,” she panted in between each of her next words, “me – a – few – minutes – and – we’ll – go – for – a – run.”
“Really?” I spoke my voice squeakier than I expected or wanted it to be but I couldn’t believe she still had energy to do more. I mean… “Are you sure? You look like you need to be carried home, not out and about frolicking in the forest…”
“We won’t be frolicking, this is how I build endurance, and everything I tell you to do will have a purpose. Lets say that you fight as hard as I do, but you’re still taken, that means you have to gather all the energy and will you have left and use that to escape. You will have more of those two things if you practice. It will be short now. But if each day you push yourself, you go that extra minute, it will pay off in the long run, you never know…” she said but before I could answer someone else spoke.
“Well the student has become the teacher,” a man coming from the bushes said with a sneer on his face, but he only had eyes for Chelsea. I instantly got worried, but Jamie, Jack and Casey didn’t seem too…
Chelsea said one word, “Lux,” and instantly jumped to her feet because the man came charging at her growling; Chelsea pushed me away when he was five feet away from us.

UnknownPOV (he's on the island...)
Stretching out, I inhaled, listening to the sounds in the house, extending my hearing out, able to hear the early morning sounds of the forest on the island.
The Island. I thought with complete and utter distaste, the only thing I enjoyed remotely was that I was here with my family, my mother Scoria, my father Tom, and my siblings, Theo and Claudia. Against my will, my family had come here to hide, leaving our lives behind abruptly. I opened my eyes looking at the ceiling; I could here them all downstairs, but not just them. Another family we had met when we arrived on the island, the Hellmans – they had been here longer – by a few months.
I had no way to reach out to anyone on this island, and only a few people, Marlon, Leland, Lux, and Bryant contacted the outside world. At just 18 years old, I was forced to give up so much, for a while my older brother Theo had agreed but after three days here; he met his mate, also 24 year olds – Jenny Hellmann. After that, I was on my own – until… well until the Hellmanns younger daughter Lynn shifted a year ago, now she was my shadow and I’d bet anything in the world that she was downstairs right now, all of them in fact. My family and hers, Greg and Theresa her parents, Jax her older brother and Hector and Owen, her younger brothers.
The only person I wanted to see, would do anything to hold in my arms, I hadn’t seen her… I stopped myself from even thinking about it, I didn’t want too, not only did it hurt me but it hurt my wolf to think about his lost mate as well. Shaking my head I went to the bath to empty my bladder, dressing in running clothes and headed downstairs, with no way to avoid the people downstairs.
“Morning,” I said to everyone, making my way to the door, hoping in vain that no one stopped me, “Oh sweetheart, Happy Birthday!” my mom said cheerily, I gave her a half hearted smile that I know didn’t reach my eyes because her face dropped a bit, “We made you breakfast for your birthday,” Lynn said brightly, I looked at her blankly. Sighing I opened the door but mom stopped me, holding my shoulder, “Son, why don’t you come sit, eat with us, Lynn and I made your favorites,” again she tried to guilt me, this wasn’t the first time and I could see how this would turn out into a fight.
“Look it’s my birthday, don’t you think I should be in control of how I spend this one day, I mean you and dad have already dragged me here to this place, without my consent I should add, now you want to control when I eat as well?” I said with no real fight but it was enough for my mother to drop her hand from my shoulder and give me a sad smile, and nod. Going swiftly I could hear three chairs scrape against the stone floor and before I could leap off the porch, Dad, my older brother Theo and Jax Hellmann had followed me.
I didn’t stop though but I didn’t have all my energy either, my wolf and I were weak without our mate, five minutes of full out running was all I could manage but they were behind me, “Walter Rykos!” my father roared angrily, when we made it to the beach. I sighed sitting on a fallen palm tree, no point in continuing, it’s not like I could run off the damn island.
“What dad?” I said tired, not wanting to hear the same old lecture.
Dad, Theo and Jax stomped over to me, angrily, “Why Walter? Why do you treat that poor girl this way? She’s your mate-”
“No! No! She is not,” I said strongly, because she wasn’t, I shook my head furiously, “Dad, I don’t feel it, nothing, when I look at her I don’t see what you do when you look at mom, or when you look at Jenny Theo. I can’t explain it, when I’m around her I wish I wasn’t and when I’m not, I’m happy or as happy as I could be here. I know she’s said I’m her mate, and she may feel a certain way about me, or get the sparks you and mom told me about, but I don’t get that with her, I’ve never had it, even when she hadn’t shifted, nothing.”
“I had a mate,” I whispered, “I had a mate, and you took me away from her dad, all the things you say you get when someone is your mate, the sparks, the feeling complete and loved, I had that and you just ripped me away from her and I’m here and she’s out there,” I used my chin to point out towards the ocean. “You didn’t ask me if I had a mate when I was brought here, do you see how weak I am, these black circles under my eyes, it’s because she’s out there suffering, I can feel it. I feel helpless dad, I can feel her panic but I can’t reach her, I can’t sleep because I feel her worry, her panic, even here on this island I can feel it…” I sighed.
My eyes are filled to the brim, slowly sadness falls over the brim, but I didn’t care if they see me crying, I was in pain, in the darkness without my mate, “The Chosen one is here now dad, and soon, she’s going to defeat the Elders, and when she does, I’m going to find my mate, I’m not going to lead Lynn on, give her hope or even put her feelings into consideration. I don’t know what she is feeling, but I’m not her mate,” adamant I stood leaving them standing there wandering off by myself.
