Chapter 21 – Chelsea POV
Washing out the dirt, the spray of water falling over me, wasn’t as calming as I’d hope, things were falling into place here, pieces were being revealed bit by bit. According to dad’s records there were forty-nine inhabitants on this island, out of that number I had only recognized three names. Lux and Bryant. Two men that I hadn’t seen in nearly four years. The third name was a last name, Rykos. It was the name that Nora gave us when we stumbled across her.
From all the research dad had gathered, Lyla Rykos wasn’t a true blood Rykos, however with her accent and information on Walter… things weren’t adding up. For all his research dad couldn’t find out why the Rykos were being targeted by the Elders, they didn’t have any type of abilities, they didn’t have money, and they seemingly had no connections to anything or anyone that would warrant or catch the attention hunters, the Elders, nothing really.
However there was Nora, using the last name Rykos, her fathers name is Albert, and just the state in which I found her that morning, frightened, hungry and frazzled. Have you decided on the people you will choose to participate in the absorption? Third wolf asked anxiously while I rinsed the conditioner from my hair. My mind goes back to that discussion. ‘There is one more thing Luna,’ Mother said, ‘when you do find the violins, the power that will be released cannot be absorbed only by you.’
‘Why?’
‘It is the one thing that could kill you Luna, to prevent that from happening, you will need to choose more than 10 people, twenty or less than when the time comes.’
‘Does is matter who I pick?’
‘Yes, because when you remove the Elders Luna, those that are chosen will be your new Elders, your new court, so that decisions do not always start and end with you. You will have absolute final say, however before you will be asked your court will have already came to a decision, it is to keep balance.’
‘So, if something happens, a crime is committed, those I choose will decide on if it was a crime? What the punishment should or could be? And I have the last say?’ I had wanted to clarify this.
‘Yes Luna, your choices can be anyone, Jack, Casey; they don’t have to be wolf shifters either, now that you’re on the island there are other types of shifters here that you can choose from. You need to choose with both your head and heart. The right people that you feel hold your values true to themselves, they don’t have to be perfect or an innocent Luna, but they have to be able to make decisions for the greater good.’
‘You have all my research Chelsea, not all people will want to be an Elder, but on the other hand, you need to be wary of those that want it too much. You need strong and confident leaders at your side, so there will not be a repeat of events…’ dad said cryptically and until hearing Lux speak I didn’t quite understand what was going on, but Lux – he had answers. Still I had someone who I’m sure had more answers as well, we just hadn’t spoken to her yet.
After cleaning off I went to find Nora, we still had her with us, in the main house with us, easier to keep track of her that way. The recording in my hand, I knocked on the door to her space, “Coming,” I heard her shuffling about, and opening the door widely, revealing her two little children behind her. Mattia and Nicolas, “Hi babies,” I said kneeling to their level, Tia’s wild curls framing her face, her blue eyes, identical to Coles, identical to their fathers – Walter.
Cole, shyer of the two children, hid behind Nora’s leg while Tia came forward, “Are you guys settling in okay?” I stood, focusing on Nora, she nodded quickly, “Yes you all have been so accommodating,” she stepped back, letting me enter her little space, two bedrooms, and a small sitting area.
“We need to talk,” I said bluntly, not beating around the bush here, nodding slowly Nora blinked, maybe she can help me find Walter… she thought and I smiled inside, little did she know. Sitting her kids went to the toys at our feet, “I need to know if you recognize this voice…” I said pulling out the recorder, pressing play “Look what we have here… Elder Bellamy – or should I call you Anya?”
“Albert…”
“Where are the Violins Elder Bellamy?”
“What Violi-” the tape clicks right after the gunshot, all the blood drained from Noras’ face, her hand shook and her mind. Blank. Nothing. It was unnervingly to watch, as she seemed to become fear reincarnated. Her heart pounding, her eyes glazed over, as she heard the voice, “Nora,” I whispered eyeing her children who seemed to in tune with their mother that they came near her.
“Mama…” I watched this interesting behavior of these two children, so bonded with their mother, pulling her out of this trance she went into. With shaky hands she lifted her son, “It’s nap time guys,” she cooed, a complete transformation from the shocked near catatonic mess she was seconds ago. “Can – let me just put them down for a nap and we can talk,” she croaked and so I waited patiently, until she returned to the sitting area, but she brought back a camera bag with her.
“I – first I know you probably won’t believe me, but I’m nothing like that man on that recording, I know that he’s biologically my father but – made life so hard – I – I never knew him,” I nodded, my mind focused on her words and her thoughts.
“The violins the ones he’s asking about, I’ve had them-”
“Had? As in you don’t anymore? How did you get them?”
“I never knew my father, but my mom she had them, and Albert he knew that she did, tried getting close to her. At first she didn’t know that he knew she had them, all she knew was that they were important, expensive. They were in her family for nearly three generations, she taught me to play on them. But Albert he played her, by the time she realized that he wanted them, that the only reason he was with her, was because of them, she was already pregnant with me so she left... the first eleven years of my life, I lived it as a boy. Mom was so paranoid that even though she named me Eleanor Rodeney, I lived as Brett Craven, Dylan Craven and for a month, as David McGee,” a small young child, with a buzz cut and hazel eyes flashed in her mind. That’s why her name came back with little to no information… I grasped.
“We never stayed anywhere for more than two months, and by the time I was eight, I understood, the only things that stayed consistent was that we traveled with three violins and two guitars. The third thing was Lyla Fern, I can remember seeing her almost twice a year since I was a small child. It was the one person we saw more than once in our life.”
“So you grew up knowing you weren’t a boy? Right?” I questioned interested in that as well for a minute. She nodded, “Mom explained that to me. She told me that Albert would be looking for a young woman and a daughter, not a son; that he was a bad man, then he proved it for me his self, he killed my mom.”
“It – it was – I didn’t,” she shook her head, a bloodied scene that could rival what Leo did to Jason was what she thought of, “I took the violins and guitars, and ran, we had a plan in place for if something like that happened. I sought out Lyla and she sent me to Collège Alpin International Beau Soleil, a boarding school in Switzerland.”
“When we found you, Nora you were starving… if they’re expensive instruments,” I asked playing along, and she didn’t think about Elders or the power they held just memories of her mom teaching her to play, memories, good ones my the tenor in her mind, “You could have sold them, you’d be able to feed your children…” I was baffled.
Albert doesn’t just want the violins, he wants the piece of music that Nora has memorized… all three violins need to be played at once, playing that identical piece of music on each one but he was mislead, the piece of music is in the safe Greta gave you. The violins have the key, and that’s the key to unlocking them Chelsea, that’s how your mom trapped the power. Then she gave the violins to Nora’s great great great grandmother… third wolf answered me.
“I can’t sell them for different reasons, but Albert doesn’t just want them, he wants me, but when he is finished with me, he isn’t going to keep me alive… he’s a cold hearted killer. He asked that woman on the tape for them, but killed her anyways; he killed my mother because he figured he’d have me. But he lost me for sometime, if I were to sell them… I’d just be giving him a signal to track me down, I couldn’t do that.” She gazed at the room her children slept in, “I could have before, but then… do you have any idea how hard it is to just move around and around with one child? Two…? I did what I thought would keep us all safe, I started going by Lyla Rykos because of their father… I thought… I – it was the first time I had let anyone close to me, and – and it was so easy. I thought he cared about me, we were together and then he just disappeared, I spoke to Andrew – his cousin and he told me that – that Walter and his family had been in – in an accident,” she cried, tears rolling down her face. There wasn’t a single false thought in her mind, but her scent was what bothered me, I couldn’t understand it or why Ava had the same tinge to her smell as well.
“I know you’re hurting, but I have a few more questions, are you up to them?” I asked. She nodded, wiping at her tears, with her sleeve, “do you still have the violins? I’d like to buy them from you… all three.” I watched her thoughts, before she went on the run, she went out to a field or what appeared to be a park maybe, with the violins, put them in setting concrete, and buried them. I kept my face blank, but I was impressed.
She shook her head ruefully, “I couldn’t sell them, and I wanted insurance, having them with me and the kids didn’t seem like the smart choice.”
“But you remember where you left them?” I was hoping she would think of the location more, but all she thought about was her children, and an unexplainable guilt – his family died because of me, she thought sadly.
“They’ve done nothing but cause me pain,” she whispered sadly, “I couldn’t sell them, if you want them, I used to live at Ferdinand Street, in Camden Town NW1, on the roof there is a garden. Under the third potted area, I submerged them in drying concrete on that roof, all three of them.”
I nodded, deciding I’d already set up an account for her when we returned; she needed something to take care of herself and her children. “One more thing, were you bitten?” she looked at me confusion in her eyes.
“Your children are like me, but you smell different, were you turned I believe…” I stopped when she thought of a love bite from Walter, they were together, and in the throes of passion he claimed her. “The twins father, he-” she pointed moved her shirt aside showing me the bite mark hidden, her face red-hot.
“Did you love him?” I asked, she nodded sadly, “The number of people I’ve truly ever loved can all be counted on one hand. I love them differently you know, but my mom, the twins, Walter and Lyla…” I nodded; while I wanted to get to know Walter Rykos at dinner it was just cruel to let Nora continue to suffer this way.
“I’d like to go somewhere with you right now while the twins are napping, I can get someone to sit with them in case they wake up,” I offered kindly but the horror on her face, showed me just how petrified a life Nora had led, “It’s not to hurt you, I swear. Walter isn’t dead Nora,” I said softly, her brows scrunched together confused.
She shook her head, “No – he – yes – he – Andrew said that he died, if he was alive – Walter wouldn’t have abandoned me,” rasped, her hands rubbing the side of her face, the tears flowing once again, “I’m not sure but I don’t think the Albert was after you just for the violins,” Walter isn’t – he’s alive… “He’s here… right on this island here?” she pointed down.
“Yes.”
“So – so his mom and dad, older brother and younger sister, they aren’t dead?” she whispered sadly, it wasn’t because of me.
I shook my head, “They are all alive, Nora.”
“I want to see him,” she said a small voice, not until I see him; won’t believe – I need to see – to make sure – can’t leave the babies though... I would have been offended that she didn’t take my word for it, but in this circumstance, I could understand, I could relate to needing to see for myself with my own two eyes if someone I loved and thought was gone, was actually alive.
“If you don’t feel comfortable leaving the babies, I can go get him and let him know you’d like to see him…” I proposed, when the thought of leaving her kids left her in a panic.
“It’s him? Really him?” Her bottom lip shook, I nodded sadly, “I’ll go get Walter, I just need to speak to Gabriel first, and then I’ll go okay?” she nodded distracted, I’m not even sure that she noticed when I left her place.
.
.
Taking the recorder I went straight to Gabriels’ office, teleporting in, finding him at his computer, talking to someone.
“Hey Chelsea,” Logan said when I sat on Gabriel, “well I found the violins, or their last location,” I said proud, you didn’t so much as find them Chelsea, as question a poor girl that wouldn’t let you pay her for them, Aria joked.
“Logan, can you go and get them?” I asked knowing neither Gabriel nor I could risk being seen. “Yeah, just need the address,” he replied and I proceeded to give him the address, kissing Gabriel soundly, happily and grateful – that I hadn’t experienced the pain that Nora ever had over losing Walter – before leaving to go see Walter Rykos.
.
.
.
Lux?I called him, walking down to the kitchen, then backyard, yes Luna? I rolled my eyes, respect won’t stop me from kicking your ass very soon, I said seriously.
I want you to take me to the Rykos home right now, I waited for a response but wasn’t getting one, a few minutes later a shirtless Lux climbed through the bushes surrounding our house, “Think you can take me huh…” I shrugged, “Yes.”
“I thought you just wanted to see Walter at dinner?”
“I did, now I want to see him earlier than that,” I replied not giving anything away and Lux didn’t ask, just showed me the way.
You have to tell me why you were calling Oakley princess, Lux. The truth this time, I stopped walking, you said you knew my mother before she was an Elder? What were you two? I tried to ask without any accusation in my tone but it was still there.
“I knew your grandfather you know, and he had the most unique gift you could say. So that he could serve and be leader of all shifters he was able to turn into the different animals, he wasn’t confined to only shift into a wolf. When he was killed by those he trusted, they were able to steal his power, and now you are a threat to those people. I was your mothers’ guard, I failed her, she would have been queen, but with no followers Luna, when she was sent back, she was returned as an Elder. A way to fix the wrongs, but even then she was unable to succeed, we do not know all her doings, but then we were told of the Chosen One,” he eyed me.
“Your mother was gone before we realized that she would be the one giving birth to our new leader. You are the heirs to that title that was robbed from your family Luna, which is why I called Oakley princess, because that is what she is, and I can see this defeated look in her eyes, one that shouldn’t be there at her age. I wasn’t able to protect your mother, or your family, but I will do anything to protect you, Oakley and Ben,” he swore vehemently. I nodded, my mother was a royal?
“The kindest – the whole family,” he answered with respect, “Which led to their demise,” he said in a warning type of way, but I understood.
“No more lies, Lux,” I gave my own warning.
Continuing a few steps, he pushed away brush, stepping through, “This is where the Rykos live, and through that path is where the Hellmanns live,” he pointed out the families. Is everyone aware of my abilities? All of my abilities, I clarified. He shook his head, Bryant, Marlon, Leland and I.
Good, I want it kept that way for now, I informed him, knowing I had to pick who would stand by me I wanted to see who people really were, not who they thought I wanted them to be.
Walking up the path, Lux knocked on the door, a woman, near my height, with short black hair, brown eyes and small lips answered, “Hello Lux – how – you – Luna,” she said flushing red, not meeting my eyes for very long, and rubbing her hands down her clothes, fixing her appearance, I supposed.
“What an honor, please, come in, come in,” she waved us in, stepping aside, “we were all just sitting down for lunch, the Hellmans are here as well,” she continued speaking flustered. The Luna is here, she alerted a few other people, her family I suppose because soon all the thoughts but one in this house were consumed with my arrival.
“It’s nice to meet you Mrs. Rykos,” I said politely.
“Is – is something wrong, Lux? I thought you said she invited Walter for dinner?” I bit my lips never one to like being talked about as though I wasn’t standing right there next to her and unable to answer for myself.
“No, he is invited but I wanted to speak to him and thought I could-”
“Where are my manners,” she interrupted me, I had to blink – stop, she’s just nervous, you’re a big deal Luna Chelsea, Lux said mockingly, “Would you like to join us for lunch?” she said already turning and heading, Lux pulling me along to the kitchen.
As soon as we entered, the people turned facing me, and Mrs. Rykos proceeded to introduce everyone, even grabbing three chairs and placing them at her table, so much for asking and waiting to see if I accepted, I thought. Then, when Jaxon Hellman was called my eyes narrowed looking at the young man, thinking of the Jax, Leo was thinking of. The Jax Rian thought of, and even named her son after I believed. I would have to remember to make Gabriel check up on that more, I thought absentmindedly.
“Is Walter available,” I didn’t ask, and Mr. Rykos stood leaving the room, returning mere minutes later with a ghost of a man by his side. He looked nothing like his picture in the file dad left me, raccoon eyes, gaunt and pale skin, sickly looking considering he’s been here on an island, in the sun for two years and all.
“Luna,” he actually smiled but it didn’t reach his eyes at all, he averted his eyes after a minute until he inhaled and then his head snapped to my face, he sat in the chair dazed, no it’s not her scent, I just want it to be… not real… not real…
“Lux said you wanted me at dinner tonight, I’m surprised you’re here,” I nodded, not touching the food Mrs. Rykos dished out.
“Actually, I am interested in how you all came to reside on this island, of course I have my fathers notes I am still curious because some things do not add up,” from three feet away I could feel the resentment rolling off of Walter.
“They came here willingly,” he sneered, “but I was brought here against my will, they actually sedated me, treated me like cattle.”
“You’re upset,” I pointed out obviously, “but surely you’re happy that your family is safe,” I countered.
He didn’t dispute my point. Out loud that is, but on the inside, yeah but not all the people I love and consider family is here – mate isn’t here.
“I guess the thing is, that I don’t understand what you were hiding from,” I addressed Mr.Rykos, Walter snorted.
“We were in danger, your father approached us, told us but different things had been happening, small but when he told us they made sense, I mean my wife was driving her car and we had our brakes changed and not even 3 weeks later they were inefficient and she was in a terrible car accident. Thankfully no humans were hurt, to draw attention but we wrote it off, until your dad showed up.”
“Walter was attending Westminster University in London, he didn’t want to leave but I was only doing what I thought was best as a father,” he said to me, but was looking at Walter, “I didn’t know that-” he cut his eyes over to the one that was Lynn, but she wasn’t looking up.
“Don’t beat around the bush dad,” Walter snapped, “He didn’t know that I had found my mate, and that he brought me here without her.” Lynn whined, what am I missing? I asked Lux, who must of known, because while Walter was glaring at his father, Claudia his sister was glaring at him.
“Is that why you look like death?” I asked him, “Being away from your mate?” Lynn let out a small whimper. Lynn is Walters mate, but he rejected her, says he doesn’t feel anything for Lynn whatsoever, Lux informed me.
Claudia slapped her hand on the table angrily, “I’m sorry Luna,” she gritted out, “But he looks like death because he rejected his mate, Lynn.” During this Lynn didn’t look up, mate doesn’t want us, her wolf whined, but Walters wolf, so weak still managed to have a say, not our mate, Nora is mate.
I didn’t respond or even give Claudia’s statement value, instead turning to Walter, “Your mate, the one you found, was she always your mate? Did you always feel that she was?” but over the link I reached out to Remy, Remy I need you to scan the documents dad found for the Hellmanns, then I want you to do your own research, tell me what you find, asap.
How can he be so hurtful to Lynn, sitting here bragging about some girl – some human? Mr. Hellmann said, eyeing his daughter, who had tears in her eyes. His children, Jax and Jenny, as well as Claudia thinking the same. “Yes,” Walter nodded with a small smile, “I took her scent and sort of tracked her down,” he replies sheepishly, “She’s human, so she didn’t know I was her mate and she was beautiful. She’s quirky and lovely, she was all alone and sad, I didn’t know why, I got a job outside of her flat, and she – I was nervous around her, and she was attending the Royal Academy of Music. The first time I saw her playing her guitar she was at the park, so beautiful,” he replied the bottom of his lip shaking, his eyes wet. My poor boy, Mrs. Rykos thought.
“I – I feel her – she isn’t safe – that’s how I’ve felt since I’ve been here.”
I pursed my lips, “Did you mark her?” I asked point blank, if he didn’t maybe Lynn still has a chance, Claudia thought, Lynns dad on the same page.
“No,” Walter said carefully, searching his mind, his own words not convinced, a few people in the room let out a sigh of relief.
Letting that go, I moved onto Lynn, “Have you always thought he was your mate Lynn?” I asked her, she avoided meeting Walters gaze but nodded, just as I was about to ask another question Remy mind linked me giving me information, which helped me understand what had most likely happened, how it appeared that Walter had two mates, one he felt and the other he didn’t. Yet it made me wonder about recent events, what were those ripples going to be like?
“Walter do you know a Lyla?” I swear that Walters’ heart stopped, he gasped the fork in his hand fell against his plate with a clink. Please let her be okay, he thought looking at me with a deer in headlights expression, waiting for the words that I spoke that could either break him or patch him back up.
“I ran into her, back in November, offered her the chance to join my pack and when we were leaving, coming here I gave her the option to come here with me as well…” I got worried because the heart I thought stopped beating, went into overdrive, thudding loudly in the room so quiet you could hear a pin drop, “Why don’t you go with Lux back to my house Walter,” I offered he stood abruptly, “She – my Nora is here?” he nearly released a sob between those words, I gave him a short nod and smile. I watched as his breath stuttered and then Lynn released a sob, but that wasn’t Walter’s concern because he was already leaving the house, Lux following him.
Claudia and Lynn, glared at me as did Mr. Hellmann, until I released a low growl, their wolves submitting to mine instantly, I turned to face Mr. Rykos, “I want to let you know that when he finds out the truth, he isn’t going to forgive you, not for a long while.”
“And no matter what I’ll stand by it, I’m a father, I had to protect my son-”
“You know when I met my biological father and Gabriel, the first thing I thought was that I might have people in line to kill me, but the person I really needed protection from, was my father, not those people out to kill me. Your son, was not some little kid, he was a 18 year old man, granted being a parent doesn’t just end when your child turns 18, but that’s the time where you might want to loosen the reigns, he will never understand what you did to him, and what he lost, you will never be able to give it back to him,” he wanted to answer, but the respect his wolf wanted to give me overrode his will to reply.
“Mr. Hellmann, why did your family need to come here?” I asked already knowing, pieces I believed, Dad hadn’t figured it out, but then again he didn’t have Remy or the connections Gabriel had.
“The Elders and hunters tried to kill us all-”
“Right and everyone else here, but I want to know why you were on their radar,” I cut him off not wanting to hear the lies.
“We aren’t sure, our name was given to your father, when he came for us, it was true, I wanted to protect my family-”
“Stop talking.”
I turned to his wife, “How about you, can you tell me the truth?”
The children all looked confused, I sighed, “You were Walters first true mate Lynn, however when you had your transplant, for your heart, in Mexico – which I’m betting that your dad bought you that heart. Knew someone would die for you to live, and that is what he needed two hundred grand for, the same money you stole from the Elders. Isn’t that right Mr. Hellmann?”
“Daddy?” Lynn lifted her hand over her chest, her hand shaking, “But that didn’t work did it Mr. Hellmann? I’m guessing that you rejected your heart down in Mexico Lynn, and you either died during surgery or maybe even after surgery,” Lynn shook her head in denial.
“You see I had someone contact the doctor that you used down there, and according to them – after giving them a nice little incentive – when you left with your daughter in that back alley room, you did so with a corpse.”
“So, tell me how I’m sitting here with your daughter? The same one that only just shifted a year ago?”
I waved him off, “Don’t answer that, it’s not important and I don’t care, but you see Lynn, when you died, Walter was given a second mate, Nora. You were brought back by potion? Spell? Vampire?” I guessed a few things, “It doesn’t matter how either, but you see your mate was no longer your mate when you were brought back.”
“So I’m going to give you all a warning, for the time being while we are on the island, if I see one of you even so much as look wrong at Walters mate Nora, there will be dire consequences. Whatever pain you feel, is yours to feel. It isn’t Walters fault, it’s your fathers Lynn, so do everyone a favor and put the blame where it’s meant to be. Nora didn’t steal your mate, you died.”
“Do – do you think I’ll get another mate?” Lynn whispered.
“I tell you that your father stole money. Paid for a heart, which most likely means he had someone killed – murdered – so that you could get your heart and you’re worried about if you’re going to get another boy?” I asked slowly disgust, “Really?” take her wolf away Chelsea, third wolf said. How?
Place your hands on either side of her head, then let me take over, I sighed, standing, walking around the table everyone watching me, wondering what was happening? Doing as third wolf said, I placed my hands on either side of Lynn’s head, her family all came to help however like I wasn’t myself I saw them attempt to reach out at me, but pull their hands back, I watched my hands turn bright white, blindingly so, a feeling over fullness took over me, and when it ended I jolted back against the wall.
“What the hell did you just do?”
“Lynn? Sweetheart?” Mrs. Hellmann crouched down next to her daughter worry flaring.
Mr. Hellman, approached me, his eyes black, fury rolling in waves, he pounced.

Oakley POV
When Chelsea and the others left I went up to my room, needing some time alone, was Chelsea right? Was I angry? And if I was, who was I really angry at? I always thought I wasn’t, I didn’t feel that very often and when I did, it was at myself for not belonging. I knew I disliked Sarah because of the things she said about my momma, but was I –
“Hey,” Uncle Grant knocked the door, disrupting my thoughts, after maybe giving me ten minutes alone or so I thought.
“It’s been over an hour Oak…” he said concerned, my eyes flew to the clock shocked that he was right. I blinked looking back, “I was thinking about some things,” I said.
“Want to talk about it?”
I pursed my lips, “Do you think I’m angry or holding it inside?” I asked in a small voice. Uncle Grant came in, siting on my bed casually, he sighed, “I think everything Chelsea said was spot on Oak, I know you told her you don’t feel anger but I think you just got so used to hiding it, you hide it from yourself. I think you’re angry with the adults for failing you, for your dad not taking notice that you were floundering even though academically you were flourishing, for everyone talking about you, about your mom, but I think you’re also angry with your momma,” he said carefully, my head shifted to face him, no longer looking out of the window.
“I’m not angry with momma,” I screeched, that – that was absurd.
“I have no reason to be angry at momma!” I followed my hands across my chest, and Uncle Grant eyed my movement before answering.
“So you aren’t angry that she made you promise not to tell anyone what happen? Or that she kept your daddy in the blind?” he asked freely, no tension in his features or body, I on the other hand went stiff.
“She died for us Uncle Grant,” I answered, I couldn’t be mad at someone that sacrificed herself for me, that loved me. How could he not see that?
He nodded, “so let say that I buy you a puppy, but I don’t tell you that one day it’s owners are going to come for it, it can be any day. You think everything is fine, you love that puppy and it becomes your best friend. One day the owners come and take it away, would you be angry with me? For holding back the truth from you?” I rested back in the chair, looking outside again, not answering uncle Grant until I heard him leave the room. Tears pooled as I thought his question over, it wasn’t the same.
