Chapter 29 – Chelsea POV

I stared at Gabriel, how could he? I thought we said no more secrets. Personally, I hated confrontation, it doesn’t please me, or bring me great joy to start a fight for whatever reason, he wasn’t hiding it from you, and Gabriel doesn’t keep secrets Chelsea, Avena chimed in. Glancing at him he didn't even seem to see that I was bothered, I sighed, I’d talk to Gabriel later, I didn’t have time for this now, my leg shook, up and down, in anticipation of finding out what the key on the violins would reveal in that chest Greta had given me, that belonged to my mother. Yet, what really made me still were Jay and Pat, what Logan was thinking of.

“What’s going on with Pat and Jay?” I asked glancing at Gabriel and Logan, not caring right then who would tell me, just that they had too.

Gabriel sighed, “I hired someone to keep track of Pat, keep him alive I guess…” he shrugged. “It’s someone from Logan’s pack-" Logan cut him off to finish, "but Pat hired a private investigator to find Jay. Gave him ten grand to find him, not sure why, Jay gave him the time he wanted and Audrey was there but she’s a wolf, turned-”

“No she isn’t… no one can change a human to shifter…” I interrupted him. “No – Chelsea my guy has no reason to lie. However Jay did it, Audrey is a shifter now,” Logan said adamant. I rested back, the only thing I could think was how?

Shaking my head, I waved my hand, “Okay so Jay blew up Pat’s house?” I asked distracted. Until I realized Logan was slowly shaking his head, “No… we blew up his house…”

I lifted my eyes to his face; a smile erupted on my face, slowly, until I just barked out laughing, “You blew up his house?” I asked chuckling, “why?” Lux looked at me with wide eyes, but as always remained quiet. “We stole the recording that Oakley left from him as well,” he added on when I stopped, “So you went in to steal the recording and then decided to just bomb his house?” Logan nodded like nothing he was saying was wrong.

“Chelsea, Pat was looking for trouble… he met with Jay and said that his children were murdered and wanted answers from Jay. Claimed all these things and Jay asked for a DNA test – when Pat told Jay that Norine was Anya – and that their children were related. When we heard that, no one was home, we had to blow that place up. We didn’t have time to go in and remove Ben and Oakley’s DNA, all we could do was blow it up…” Logan explained.

I glanced at the men in the room, Logan, Lux and then finally Gabriel, “So… this is a thing now… we just go around blowing things up? Gabriel blew up Alpha and Luna Rosa’s whole pack… then the plane… Grant and Julia’s car… now a house?” I asked incredulously. “How – tell me how you guys think this is keeping us hidden? Also who cares if Jay asked for a DNA test? Now that you’ve blown up the house you think Jay or Pat are just going to be like ‘oh that’s it, forget that I said our children were related?’ really?” Logan scrunched his face up, thinking over a note.

I shot up to my feet, “You left a note!?” I blinked, shaking my head because I was surely hearing wrong.

“Yes, it can’t be traced to us, but we told Pat to leave it alone if he didn’t want his wife and other daughter to have the same fate as his brother and two children.”

I nodded smiling, “Oh well that’s different, you left him a stern note… okay...” the smile dropped, “All it takes is one picture… I look like Oakley… Audrey is my twin… you think a note is going to stop Pat from digging where he shouldn’t be?”

“Chelsea… that man has a daughter, no home and a baby on the way, he’s been fairly busy since we blew up his house,” Logan said convinced that they had handled things right. “Oh well, get your explosives ready for his next house, because once he’s settled into that home, I’m convinced beyond a doubt that he’ll start his search for answers all over again,” I deadpanned. Logan shook his head, “No, he told Jay to go away, that he can’t risk more family.” His words settled me, as well as disturbed me, it had only been two weeks and he had given up on finding the truth, just another piece of information that would hurt Oakley and Ben in the long run.

Chelsea, one of the Hellmanns are at the property line, you told them not to cross – he is wanting to speak to you, Jamie told me and sure enough when I actually looked through Jamie’s eyes I saw Hector, the fifteen year old Hellmann.

“You’ve got to be…” Gabriel stood up from the room, tapping Lux on the shoulder, leaving the room angrily, Lux on his tail. Logan looked after the two, with raised brows, “Things are going bad now, they’re probably not changing as normal,” I said confused because of what he said about Audrey being a wolf now.

“How… have you been able to figure out how Audrey was changed?” I asked knowing it couldn’t have been good.

“I think your dad had her changed and hoped that you would keep her turned. Abby, my mate told me that there are spells Fae’s can use, a curse of sorts but it’s temporary, but maybe that’s all he needs to keep her alive.”

“What happens when the spell wears off?” I asked not really wanting to ask, as well as knowing that either way Audrey would be facing death. Whether it was back when I refused to change her or later now after this spell or what ever wore off, she wouldn’t live. She will die, Logan thought.

I sighed just closing my eyes and listening to Gabriel and Lux their thoughts as they went to the border to meet Hector Hellmann. Opening one eye I turned my peeked a glance at him, “Have you told Wolf that you’re his son?” I asked him, wondering how my uncle took it. “Nah, I’ve been too busy, plus since Rainy is here and supposedly dead I had to ‘mourn,’” he said rolling his eyes. “Then I’m still trying to find out what they humans were doing by confirming our existence,” Logan huffed.

“How’s that coming?” I asked my interest focused now, this was something he was doing for Gabriel and I, since before we had left California. It was a big deal, admitting that were-shifters existed. Logan inhaled loudly, his elbows placed on his knees as he leaned forward, “From what we’ve hacked and what I’ve managed to get by working my way in, the government is forming an army of sorts, what isn’t clear is if they are shifters.”

“What makes you think they aren’t?”

“There’s talk of serums and most research we’ve found has to do with blood. It could be two things; they’re coming up with their own way to create shifters or using shifter blood to do something else, either way, I’m fairly certain that the Elders are in on it Chelsea,” Logan said, the lines on his face much to prominent for his young age, “The only thing that is giving me my peace of mind now, is that Rainy and the kids are here, with you and Gabriel,” he repeated those words again. Expressing with me what he once had when he asked if they could come along. There was a comfortable silence, I was still listening to Gabriel, he and Lux on a mini car driving that mile, Gabriel exited the car the minute Lux stopped, stalking over to Hector. The small boy had tears in his eyes, but tears meant nothing to Gabriel, unless it was me – only Chelsea crying bothered me, he thought at the same time that I did.

“I’m heading over to see Rainy and the kids before I leave again,” Logan said exiting, when I didn’t hear the door click I knew that he left using his gift.

I was still watching Gabriel and could tell that he and Lux were now following Hector, I tuned out wondering if I should go, but thought otherwise, I would be saying so much more by not showing up, and I wanted Gabriel to handle this, after he totally dropped the ball on this Pat and Jay business. Then I opened my eyes glancing at the violin cases on the floor, the decision easier than anything else right now, these three instruments were causing so much trouble, I reached for them one by one, placing each on the table in front of me.

Going to my knees I opened the first case, revealing a dark brown violin, warn, I run a single finger over the lower bout, the curve of the waist, running my fingers over the strings on the neck. Lifting it from it’s case I turned it around, looking on the back for the key I was told to find, doing the same with the other two as well. On the third violin, I turned the instrument over, finding an old bronze – maybe – skeleton type key on the back. Toying with it, it came off easily, the special design at the end, an ‘M’ with the same ‘M’ shape upside down above it.

I put the key to my mothers safe chest in my pocket, lifting the three cases and going to put them in mine and Gabriel’s safe. Sitting on the floor I went to the large wooden chest Greta had given me, putting my mothers dress, the books and items aside to pull out the chest I sat on the floor cross-legged, turning the safe around I tried to find the key-hole coming up blank. Taking out the key I held it in my hand, the heaviness of it and design made me wonder if I had the right safe for this key.

Sighing I put the key on top of the safe, standing to look through the books my mother had left, hoping there was some explanation for this, when the safe and key seemed to mold into each other, the safe top absorbing the key, a red glow around the edges, before the walls of the safe came apart, the contents falling aside.

Three scrolls, one with the words 'For My Children,' written in cursive and my eyes widened even more when I saw four rings. Each with different stones but same design as the ring Gabriel proposed with on my finger.
