Chapter 34 – Gabriel POV

Chelsea was... I thought my mate – our mate Max interrupted after being silent for hours – handling a gun was a turn on, but I was mistaken, watching Chelsea lay down the law here on the island after using my gift she inherited when we solidified our bond was the most attractive I think I’ve found her. I loved all the parts of her immensely but that moment where she straightened up faced them all, no beating around the bush or trying to out do her self to gain their trust.

She was my match in everyway and I couldn’t have been prouder of her, she didn’t need to go to lengths, making a large dinner or barbeque to gain their trust. Previously she had done so only to be let down at times, this way was better, if they didn’t want to be loyal to her, then that was them.

You okay? I asked regardless of her taking the reigns just now, I could sense her emotions were conflicting, sadness mingled in with anger. Her jaw clenched, I watched as it twitched as we walked away from everyone on that beach, “We need to go to the hotel, where Marlon went,” she murmured not saying much else.

“Do you feel bad?” I asked knowing that Chelsea wasn’t like me, but she stopped walking spinning to stand in front of me, “Bad? About what?” she asked like I slapped her, “Him?” the scoff following echoing around us, “Telling them the truth?”

“No, everyone I care about is here, Gabriel. You remember when we first came here what Marlon said? We asked if we could stay here and he said that this was my island. These people are forgetting that.” As far as they know, I can’t make them leave – they think I’m afraid the Elders will find me, but I can make memories go away Gabriel, you know that, she nodded continuing on our way. It was quiet on the island, but thoughts were louder than ever right now, everyone mind linking discussing what was to come, the secrets they held and how Chelsea treated Brian Simeon. Many understood Chelsea’s position, her no tolerance attitude for abusers, even respected her for it, knowing that their family would be safe. Thought the way she handled it was better than anything the Elders had done, noting that she hadn’t done anything the Elders didn’t say would happen. It just so happen that no one really saw the Elders carrying out punishments, so humans and shifters a like were walking all over each other.

The others, a small group thought that as the Chosen One she acted too rashly, but I was willing to bet that those people were the same that had committed their own crimes and were worried about punishment tomorrow. I tried to enter Chelsea’s thoughts, hitting a block and curiosity flared, “You don’t really care about this Fabian guy’s condition do you?” she snorted, “No, I’m going there to talk to that family,” Chelsea said nothing else until we were right on the steps heading inside. Entering the room, the one son – Shane – sat with his arms around his mother, while shockingly Andre sat holding Hope, their daughter asleep on two chairs pushed together.

“Come to gloat,” Shane snapped his arms protecting their mother, Chelsea snorted, “Is that what you think? That someone won here? No one is victorious, your father preyed on children, he knew she was locked away and used that for his own heinous activities.”

Sitting across from the family, “He isn’t dead though, he’s burned and being dashed with salt water on the beach, a simple bullet to the head like you’re just itching to get from either Gabriel or I, is much to easy for him,” she answered dryly and I couldn’t understand what had happened, her words nothing like I was used too. I wouldn’t let that show to these strangers though, but I knew something was wrong with Chelsea, “I also didn’t come here to see how your brother was doing,” I rested back against the wall, completely stymied by my mate.

“Jasmine,” she said evenly, serious, “I’m not sorry I killed your husband, he was a bad man. The person he was with you and your children was an act. What I’m here to know is if you ever had any inclination into his activities? Did you know he was this man and remain in denial and think that since he wasn’t hurting your children that it was okay? That you didn’t want to be alone or start over? Did you know what he was doing but selfishly turn a blind eye?” before Jasmine could answer Shane stood, “How dare you?”

“Shut up and sit down,” Chelsea snapped, I just smirked, Jasmine put a hand on her son, pulling him back, before turning to Chelsea, and shake her head, “No, he traveled a lot, since we got married, first he said it was because he was new and had to earn his stripes but the trips never went away, twice a month sometimes more,” I searched her mind which I’m sure Chelsea was doing as well finding nothing a miss. This was completely out in the left field for her, “Good. Next thing is this, you’re a Fae Jasmine, your children half Fae,” Jasmine nodded slowly, she won’t hurt us, safe here.

“Why are you here? What did you do to the Elders that they wanted to kill you?” Jasmine blinked; “They thought I knew where the Queen was…” my mind instantly goes on guard, “they killed my whole clan in North Dakota when I was twenty years old, I managed to escape. I was on the run for a while going from clan community to the next until I met Br-” she cut herself with a sob.

“I hid in the human world and then two years ago, the clan community nearest to my home was attacked. Jason came to my doorstep and offered us a way out, the kids wanted to stay with me – we all came here…” her eyes welled glancing at Chelsea she just blinked, “They were going to kill me – no one even knows if the prophecy is true, in my clan, they didn’t know about you or the Queen and they still killed my family.”

“Right,” Chelsea nodded, “I came here for three reasons, the first being what we’ve discussed. The second, is that while you are on this island you will not use magic unless I give you permission to do so,” the command clear I watched as their eyes focused on her words, especially Jasmine. “The final thing is this, while you are on this island, you all will stay away from Rainella and Chris, their children and family. You guys are going to have to decide whether you’re with me or against me as will the others, but if you’re against me you won’t be allowed to remain here.” Ignoring their thoughts, Chelsea stood, “Oh and if Fabian ever hits me or anyone else on this island, I’ll have someone amputate his limb before handing him over to the Elders when the time is right,” her voice even, she gave me a soft smile, offering her hand.

I snorted rolling my eyes as we left, walking back to our place, a light rain starting by the time we arrived. Lost in thought when she didn’t go the way to our room I was puzzled, until she stopped and knocked the door for Nora and Walters quarters. When Nora opened the door, Walter behind her, their eyes wide, “Yes Luna?” Nora murmured softly her brown eyes wide, Walter hovering curiously.

“I need something from you,” Chelsea said, Walter went stiff, “I know you wanted nothing to do with the violins, however Oakley, Ben and I need to learn how to play…” Nora nodded, “I can teach you… I mean I’ve given lessons back when I was in Camden, do you all have any experience?” she said eagerly, I wouldn’t have anything without her… Tia and Cole are safe… “When I was adopted my father tried but I didn’t stick it out, I wasn’t very good, I liked dancing to it more than I liked creating it,” Chelsea admitted humorlessly, “I stuck to the guitar a bit longer, a few months… Oakley and Ben – neither can play any instrument I believe.”

Nora dipped her head in understanding, “that’s fine – we haven’t found the violins yet,” Chelsea said. “But I told-”

Chelsea put her hand up – palm out – quickly, Nora jumped back as though she were about to be strike, not to far but her back now pushed against the chest of her mate, “Sorry, I wasn’t-” Nora, until I know who I can trust, I don’t want you to tell anyone about the violins or your history with them, do you understand? Chelsea asked, Nora answered with a shocked nod, “As soon as you’re ready.”

“Goodnight,” Chelsea murmured. Stopping at Ava’s room on our floor, she sighed, “My dad used to tell me that my bad isn’t any less or more bad than someone else’s.”

“Not quantifiable.” – “Exactly, but after what I saw in Rainy’s head, what I’ve been seeing and not just in hers either, the kids as well. I’m not sure he was right anymore, and to witness her stand up to him, stare him down the way she did…” she pulled us out of Ava’s room. Logan makes it his life to save people like her, but if I can’t protect them when they finally get freedom… it’s going to be short lived. Everyone deserves all what I said, to have their rights, to be free, safe and happy but if I don’t make things right in anyway I can – it won’t make an ounce of difference, same torment, different location.

Scooping her up, her chest to my front, Chelsea quickly wound her legs around my torso, her eyes wet, welling and filled to the brim, “How about a bath?” I asked her, already walking us to the bathroom, kicking the door shut.

Placing her on the bathroom sink I turned the water on, dropping in the lavender scented bath salts she liked, undressing after – Chelsea doing the same. Sinking into the water, her back against my chest, hair in a bun, leaning on my shoulder, I could feel myself hardening against her back, but I finally relaxed when she did. Resting easily with me, “You don’t have to change who you are Chelsea, you don’t have to be like me to get things done. I don’t want you to become like me,” I whispered hoping she understood, the responsibility and burden of taking a life wasn’t something that should be taken carelessly.

“The Mother said that you’re a good person,” she answered, “although… I have always doubted that her good and my good were on the same page, or even the same book. I’m not becoming like you but I do need to speak and behave in a way that gets results. I won’t go killing everyone that isn’t doing what I want them to do but I will let them know that there is a side,” she twirled her finger in the water.

My hand softly grazes her front, up, light as a feather and then down until my hand is submerged in hot water, “Yes, but you run the risk of people using that play against you… showing you loyalty only to pull the wool over your eyes,” I said my lips teasing her ear, after what I just witnessed I knew nothing would come from this.

“Then it’s a good thing I have you to make sure that doesn’t happen Gabriel,” her voice breathy, “Especially with Jax-” she added in a pant, stilling my hand.

“You’ve noticed that too?”

“Please I’ve been on that since day one when I went to that house, he wants to be one of the people I choose for the absorption-” she stops abruptly, Anya – Norine – Elder Bellamy whatever her name was… she had the rings Gabriel, Chelsea said pulling away, turning her body to mine, eyes wide, matching mines I would have to guess.

“How?”

She left a letter, while you went to go handle the Hellmanns, I opened the violins and there was the key, on the back. I took it and went to our safe and you remember that weird black chest that was in the larger one? Well I placed the key on it, and it did some weird magic thing, she stopped sending me a picture of what happened, anyways there it was… the four rings as well as the music needed to release the stored magic. There was also a letter explaining what happened and then she mentioned that a seer told her that she would have five children, her shoulders deflated as she got it all out.

“Is that why you asked Nora?”

She nodded, biting her lip, yeah, she said it has to be played by her heirs or descendants, and that I should find the rightful owners for the rings as well what to do during the process… choosing at least 20 people, I nodded.

“Who have you considered?”

How about the people I am sure of first? She countered, thoughtfully, pushing herself back against the tub. Taking her feet, rubbing the soles, I waited. You, Ben, Oakley, Jack, Nonno, Casey and Jamie.

“Jamie?” I questioned, “Yes,” he is someone I can trust, I mean through it all, even after everything he’s still on my side. He is my energy. Jack is my Beta. Casey is a jokester but he has my back, always on point. I nodded agreeing with her, I also think we should have Ava, because her gift will be grow, my mind went back to the drive by shooting when we went to dinner, that force-field-wall that she was able to put up to protect us. “You’re right, at her fullest potential there’s no telling how far she could throw it eventually with practice and a boost,” Ava had only done it one time, and without being in danger she has not done it again.

Then Rainy and I would like Logan as well, but more Rainy, her gift… did you see it? It was – I’m not even sure. I gazed at the wonder in her eyes, no fear. Still I nodded, loving the smile on her beautiful lips. Marlon, Lux and Grant… you also said that you had a Fae friend right? A strong one? Well I want him or her there too.

My eyes flew open, “Really?”

Chelsea snorted, “Of course, allies Gabriel. The Elders are trying to railroad them, us… I meant what I said, my enemies are the people trying to use me or kill me for power. I’m not just going to build an army of only werewolf shifters… it’d be too small. I want people, who want what I do, who are fighting the common enemy. Not holding a grudge or preconceived notion of what was passed down… things are changing Gabriel. Declan is mated to a werewolf baby and he’s a vampire, you trusted a Fae, Kaden? Right?” I smiled, “No love, Kaden is mated to Etta, she’s the Fae,” I felt immensely proud, not because I had anything to do with how she thought or was behaving now, but just that she was mine. Chelsea was beautiful, kind, loving and brilliant, one of a kind, and mine – and soon she’d be mine in a whole new way.

Gabriel, my team has found Robert Delaney, I heard and in shock I dropped Chelsea’s foot, but her eyes were bug eyed as well. She knew what I did, that Logan – his team – they had found him.

Oakley POV

“That was so weird,” Tera said randomly, just after the final scene on the show ended, “I mean our mom’s were – it isn’t just me that noticed right?” She questioned Kiley and even me, like I had been here forever and knew her mom’s behavior. “Maybe she was just surprised to see Kieran in here,” Kiley said teasingly.

“Maybe…” Tera said not buying it, “so Kieran came here… did you tell someone to tell him to come?” she asked quickly her words jumbling together. I shook my head, my face hot, “No, he just came and-” I cut off not sure what more to say, he couldn’t speak to me, he just looked at my leg and listened to me talk, “Maybe he was worried about you…” Kiley said nodding I just shrugged... Not sure why Kieran came to visit me, but inside I was happy.

“Did you have a lot of friends back home?” Kiley asked, I laughed snorting a bit, “No… I had no friends… but it’s sorta my fault.”

They looked at me curiously, their eyes asking for details, “So no boy friends or girl friends? At all?” I shook my head.

“I didn’t go to school regularly and no boys… I mean I don’t think anyone in that town would’ve liked me that way,” they both frowned. “Why?”

“Well… it’s a small town so everyone knows everyone. Everyone thought my mom left my dad, that she was this bad woman… I look like her therefore I would do what she did…”

“So who did you talk to?” Kiley asked her voice rising.

“Ben… sometimes… but I couldn’t tell him everything… I ended up hating it there, then I started to hear my wolf only, I didn’t know it was my wolf I thought I was going crazy. Then I could hear everyone talking from across the street, and that only made it worse. I mean it’s one thing to see people whispering and there is a tiny piece of you that thinks, ‘oh they can’t be talking about me, it’s in my imagination.’ But when I started to hear everything, even people that would smile to my face spoke about my mom, or how I was – poor abandoned Oakley…”

“Is – is that why your dad isn’t here?” Tera asked sadly, her face pulled in a half smile. I nodded, “he wouldn’t pick me… he got married to Sarah, fell in love and Ben likes her but I just… I hate everything about her and being around her makes me so angry. Then her daughter – Amelia is my age – she’s more his daughter than I am. The only person I had was Ben, I couldn’t talk to him about everything but like I said it was someone. We – Ben and I – were just going to move in with my Uncle Grant because…” I stopped wondering if I should tell them, if they wouldn’t want to be my friend anymore if they knew what I had done back in Middleburg.

When I glanced up Kiley’s eyes were wide as quarters, “Did your dad make you move?” the shock in her words told me that she was probably really close to her dad.

“No… I couldn’t be there anymore and I… well I was just so sad and angry, my thoughts were all rolling around making one big mess and then I said some things. My dad sent me to my room, and the voice in my head was trying to comfort me but I – it wasn’t working so I tried to,” I looked away down at my lap, “I asked if I could go live with my uncle Grant and his wife Julia, Ben decided that if I was going he was going too. Our dad said he could only go part time but I could move completely. We got into the car and bam, one second later we were in our house here,” I looked up after deciding on the quick not to mention what I had done.

Kiley nodded, “Well at least you have Ben, your uncle and aunt too.”

“So do you miss anything about home?” Tera asked, I was going to shake my head but then, “Yes. I miss my dad, but I’m happy I’m here, more than I miss him,” I whispered, “I love him and I know he’s probably real sad that Ben and I aren’t there, but I couldn’t put up with it anymore,” I tried to explain it but I didn’t know how just yet. Plus I didn’t want them to judge me; it was hard talking to them about what I did. Everyone here wants to live, they gave up their homes to get a chance to live… but what would they think when they realized that I was just going to throw it away? I wondered.

For the rest of the night we didn’t talk about anything heavy, like about my life back home, just watched movies until eventually we fell asleep. The next morning before leaving, Tera invited me over to her house so we could all do homework together, I was getting a walking boot, after Jack removed the rods in my feet. I was thankful that Chelsea had decided to heal me to make the recovery quicker because I felt like life was going on without me, and I missed being outside.

.

.

.

After Jack gave me my crutches, helping me get used to them, I slung my backpack on my back, limping my way outside so he could drive me to Tera’s since he offered, not wanting me to injury myself more. Yet I think the real reason was everyone thought I’d run off back up the mountain, no… they care about you Oakley, you were seriously injured, you still are… they just want you safe and this is their way of making sure that happens.

Sighing I got into the car, Jack coming right behind me, driving me the mile out to Tera’s house, passing the bush covering the road, still on the path to Chelsea’s house, my head rested back against the window I spotted a boy, shirtless, older than me, glaring, cold with arms crossed against his chest, thick hair matted with mud, shorts just as dirty as his body. Bluish – grey eyes – filled with so much hate and annoyance, I looked away sharply, my stomach churning, hands shaking on my lap. I looked away from Jack, from the boy as well, my eyes concentrating on my thighs. His eyes looked just like Tera’s… maybe – maybe I shouldn’t go to her house I thought to myself, maybe something happened and Tera didn’t want to be my friend anymore.

“Oakley…” my head snapped up to my name being called, “Are you okay? You’re crying… are you in pain?” he squinted concentrating on my face waiting for an answer. Blinking a few times, I shook my head, “No… I’m okay,” I smiled even though my heart was racing faster than normal, my stomach rolling. “Okay… well you’re here,” he nodded to the door, Tera and her mom were already on their porch waiting, big smiles on their faces. Maybe it was only her brother that was angry with me…

Nodding, I opened the door, reaching for my crutches, hobbling my way over to them, “You’re up and about…” Tera said laughing, as I approached, “Oakley dear, let Tera get your bag,” Mrs. Ryan said smiling, a complete turnabout from the morose woman that came to my room last night in search of her daughter. Smiling I help Tera take the bag, but as we are about to enter my smile drops, as I remember the cold bluish grey eyes, “Oakley? Dear what’s wrong?”

“Did you forget something?” Tera asked. I shook my head eyeing the inside of their home, the angry boy wasn’t in there, “I – maybe we should stay out here,” I said weakly, “Why what’s wrong?”

“I just – I don’t want to be in the way?” I whispered, but it sounded more like a question than a statement, “You’re not…” Tera said confused, “right mom?” Mrs. Ryan nodded. Did I tell them? I didn’t want to be here when her angry brother came home? “Is – is this a trick?” I blurted out, my eyes widening when I said it, “I mean – it’s just that – I mean I don’t – if your brother is angry with me, maybe I shouldn’t be here – we can go to my house?” I offered the words tumbling out faster when mother and daughter narrowed their eyes at me in confusion their heads tilted to the side.

“Why would” both started to say, but Tera stopped, Mrs. Ryan continued, “Why would you think my boys are angry with you dear?” I stared at her like deer in headlights, and if I wasn’t on crutches I would’ve walked – no ran away. “I – I saw one of them, he was glaring at me when we left Chelsea’s house, he… looked… cross…” I stopped when Tera’s mouth dropped open and Mrs. Ryan gasped, eyes glassy, running inside the house, she raced back pushing something at my face, “was – was this the boy you saw?” her hands shaking the object, a double frame I realize, a young boy, maybe six or seven in the photo, smiling, the same bluish grey eyes, his cheeks chubby, not as angular as the boy I saw glaring at me, but the eyes, the color the same. To the right, another picture, hair long, wild, dark ash, jaw line straight, thin nose, the same boy, “Yeah…”

“ohhh…” Mrs. Ryan began weeping and Tera wound her arms around her shaking form, I took a step back awkwardly not sure what to do here, “Oh – oh dear, if – if you,” Mrs. Ryan held her daughter to her still crying her eyes focused on me now, “If you saw this boy… that’s my Kieran,” she wept, my eyes darted from hers to Tera for confirmation, and she nodded sadly, “Yeah, it’s him. My other brothers went camping up at the lake, they aren’t down here, won’t be back until Sunday. Mom’s right, if you saw the boy in that photo Oakley, then that was Kieran.”

Your Questions:

· Is there going to be a book after this one?

o Hmm… we'll see.

· What happened to ‘Elixir’?

o Well I didn’t want to write Rainy/Chris point of views twice here in unbroken and then in ‘Elixir’ so they’ll have their story wrapped into this one. It goes with the flow and drama here so it’ll be okay. I wouldn’t just shove them into this story if it messed up with the flow.

· Who is Etta/Kaden? Kaden is a werewolf that was kidnapped and turned into a lamia lupas. Etta is his second chance mate - YOU CAN FIND THEIR STORY ON MY WORKS SECTION, 'Scratch.'

· Is Kieran mad? Jealous that Jack is in the car? nope.

· Chelsea said she didn't get Gabriel's Fire power? Chapter 27, she couldn't get it to work, coming up I'll explain it. If you're looking for a clue read the chapter with Chelseas mothers' letter to her.

· someone messaged me and wanted me to give a list of characters, would others like me to make a chapter with just that? like i've done previously for Book #1 and #2? let me know.
