Chapter 47.5 - Chelsea POV
Chelsea! Chelsea! Chelsea! The annoying shouting continued in my head, startling me awake, I bolt into a sitting position my eyes darting around the room, as though the voice was actually here with me. Chelsea! Gabriel! It's Logan, Marx and Camilla - you need - they're with me now, I think we may have a problem. I lean back reaching for Gabriel - who just groans at whatever Logan is clearly sending the both of us. "Gabriel wake up," I mutter shaking him just a bit and he's instantly on guard, a gun in his hand aimed at... I don't know what.
In the slight darkness, I see him blinking confused his eyes searching the room for danger as I once had, but the urgency in Logan's calling continues, Chelsea, they were ambushed, the Elders are circling, with that I tumble out of bed.
What's going on? I ask reaching for my grey shorts on the floor. "Something wrong with your aunt Gabriel," I say waiting for word from Logan. Entering his mind once I'm fully clothed I see nothing but red, dark red on various items, shirts, hands, neck, the woman - Camilla - is sobbing but from Logan view she has most of the blood on her body to begin with.
"How - how did this happen?" she sobs, and Marx holds her close, "We - we have to get our daughter Moonstar-" he's cut off by Camilla. "We are so sorry Alpha," someone says from somewhere but Logan doesn't turn to look.
Logan bring them to Gabriel's office, I command removing myself from his mind, to seek out Gabriel.
"Is that a good idea?" he asks knowing the decision I just made.
"I don't know, but I'm not sure what's going on, only that they were attacked," I reply.
Glancing at the clock I note that it's just near two in the morning "Lets go," Gabe reaches out for my hand as we leave our room, and as always I sneak a peek at Ava. Always checking.
Dead - mate gone - back - how - this isn't possible - Moonstar - whose office is this - blood so much blood - pack attacked - Logan once you hand them their daughter, tell them they have two choices.
The first choice is that they join your pack, do the ceremony right away we aren't sure if they are just a pawn in the Elders game, as we head down to Gabes office.
They want to know what their second option is?
You take them back and they are on their own, I tell him with a shrug.
What about our pack - what will they do? My baby - how is this possible - I just - I couldn't have to protect mate and pup, Marx and Camilla thoughts are mangled each worried and confused, how is she alive, an image flashes before my eyes and I see Camilla lifeless in Marx's arms. My eyes flash up to Gabriel's his mirroring the alarm that something wasn't right there, but more over how was Logan involved?
What do we do? Do we join his pack? Marx asks Camilla over their mate-bond, did you see the Elders eyes, we can't return we need to lie low, her response instant.
Our pack?
"Those in our pack?" Marx asks Logan.
"Will be welcomed to join mine once you've accepted my authority," Logan replied and from his view I can see a teary eyed Camilla nodding at her mate, rocking their sleeping child.
When we make it down to Gabes office, Nonno, Nona, Greta and her mate disheveled are all waiting outside, the sound proof walls protecting their children. I wasn't worried about them being in his office not when I knew that there was a jammer in Gabriel's office preventing the Elders from using any electronic taggers or trackers, protecting our location from them.
Greta can you and your mate please go to Gabriel's office, I tell them then, Nonno, Nona, can you guys meet us at Gabriel's office.
"Ciò che è sbagliato Gabriel?" Nonno asked concerned as we approached. "We needed to show you something," I murmured but neither Gabriel nor I moved to open our door. Both of us were waiting for both Camilla and Marx to finish their convergence speech. When they were completed and we knew that their thoughts would be blocked from the Elders as well as appearing void to their pack members, we opened the door.
Wide eyes, "papà?" Camilla whispered her eyes glassy, tears falling silently down her face, Marx not fairing any better than his mate, both sets of parents running to their children.
"Sangue perché tutto questo sangue?" Nonno hurried to his daughter questioning her about the blood on her body, her face, dried all over her neck, her face covered not an inch of alabaster skin that he was used too.
"Mama? You - all - you're here - alive?" Marx at her side questioning his Greta and Zeke - his parents - as well, still confused and neither able to keep their thoughts straight. "Oh Mama!" Camilla sobbed, "You - you were gone too... I saw," Camilla lifts her hand to touch her mothers face and I'm reminded that the last time Camilla saw her mother, as far as they all knew Nona was dead. Our plane was supposedly heading off to Italy to bury her mother.
"I thought - it was staged? No - I - you had no heartbeat..." Camilla seems to be shaking, her body sways and to her side Marx is answering his parents demand for answers. Tears falling, not a single eye dry.
"We were ambushed," Marx began when his father questioned why they were covered in blood. "We were visiting with George, everyone - we were attacked - shot, Cami was - you were - she died - the Elders couldn't do anything. For two hours she was - this was - but she just gasped, how is this possible?" he turned to me questioning, Jack? Can you come to Gabriel's office?
Holding my hands out, I stop Marx, "Go back, the Elders saw her die?" he nodded woodenly, "We all did, there was no way - she shouldn't - but oh god," he turned to look at Cami, his eyes full of love, relief and joy.
Is this because she had your blood in her system? Gabriel asked me, thinking the same thing I was at the moment. Our kind after a certain time stop aging but if injured fatally, they died.
My mind instantly went to Francesca, dismembered - not possible Chelsea, Gabriel thought but I just eyed Cami, like it's impossible that she's here?
We don't know what's going on right now, he said taking my hand, rubbing circles on my palm, as we sat down Nonno, questioned them, "Cosa succede bambino?" Nona reached for MoonStar sitting on the sofa next to her daughter who was practically in Marx's lap.
"We were at - at George's. Caelum, Thierry, Ethel and Grace were all there and we were gunned - shots were just everywhere, I - I tried to push - I pushed Cami down but - but when the shots stopped, she was - you were gone Cami," Marx choked out, his arms flexing around Cami.
"You had no pulse, you were gone - we were trying to help others - I - for two hours you weren't alive," Marx says his eyes focused on his mate, "I - we put you somewhere safe so that we could tend to you once - but you walked out - she walked out of the room and the Elders..." I shook my head, all my fault, Cami thought.
Nonno tossed his head from left to right, a slight crack echoing in the room, as Cami lifted her hand to Marx cheek, "I'm sorry, I - I didn't know... I woke up?" she turned to look at me for confirmation, before her eyes went to her mate again.
"I could hear movement and I remembered the shots, the noise and broken glass, the echo's and bangs and I rushed out of the room trying to find Marx to make sure he was okay... I didn't know I had - that I was..." she swallows unable to say the words.
Leaning forward, I cleared my throat, "How did you get to Logan?"
Marx drug his eyes away from Cami looking at me, "I - I - uhm, I - when I saw Camilla leave the room, Elders Caelum and Ethel were the ones that saw her, I mean they saw her leaving it and I followed their line of sight and saw her. But their eyes it was like - it was predatory, with too many around they didn't approach her right away, but I saw how they looked at her and I knew we were in trouble," Marx didn't know just how right he was, but what I couldn't understand was how? How did she come back? A slight tapping on the door, and when Gabriel left my side to open, Jack entered.
"It wasn't relief that she was alive, it wasn't concern, it was as though - it was sinister," Marx whispers and shakes his head trying to explain what he saw but that wasn't needed because I saw in his own mind what the Elders looked like.
It was quick, the Elders recovered fairly quickly, hiding the evil in their eyes, but Marx had already seen it, "I already know that they can read our minds... so the instant I saw her alive I ran to Cami, but I controlled my thoughts, I put the best moments I've had with her - that we've shared together - on replay in my mind- replayed the devastation I felt when she-"
Inhaling shakily, "I took us back to the room, and I knew I had to get us out of there but all I could remember was that Logan could teleport I had seen him do it when you were missing Chelsea - I - Cami was crying against my chest, I sent Logan a text-"
I blinked, "How - the Elder would've seen that?"
Was this a trap after all? I sent to Gabriel, who returned to his seat. I don't think so, he didn't sound so sure.
"When you get the kind of experience I have Chelsea, you don't need to see to do things, all I could think was how to get us out of there... we were alone for maybe five minutes before a plan successfully came about - even then I controlled my thoughts... I've had years of doing that..."
The silence in the room was heavy, sighing Marx continued, "I pulled out my phone, went to the text message sent my location to Logan, honestly I don't think it made much sense I was just - I knew we had to get out of there," I'm not buying this Gabriel...
"I don't buy this shit," I blurted out not even waiting for Gabriel to reply, "I mean you hid your thoughts? Sent a text message? All while making sure not to think about those very things, keeping your thoughts private from the Elders?" my tone doubtful as ever, I mean he couldn't be serious.
I would have thought Greta, Zeke and maybe even Gabriel's aunt Camilla would have tried to stand to Marx defense, but from Zeke - Marx father - and Nonno I saw them both thinking of times when they did just as Marx was explaining. They didn't know if it was possible to the extent of his explanation, however they knew and had used the same techniques.
To them, it was dominant thinking, overloading their brain with memories, moments, giving the Elders white noise while using that layer of protection to do and think hidden.
"I know how it sounds but it's the truth," Marx said seriously, his voice firm, and his tone respectful, "It is not something one masters easily, but with severe practice over the years it does become possible and it is something that an Alpha seems to be able to harness."
I remained silent; I wasn't buying it.
How would I know if he was doing the same thing with me that he had done with the Elders? As of now, they only knew I was alive, but they had no real idea of where we were... they should go with Wolf and Logan... something just doesn't fit.
"I need Jack to take some blood," I stated waving Jack forward. Expecting some resistance from Marx or Camilla I got none. Pushing her shirt up, she pushed her hand out towards Jack when he came to sit in front of her, vacutioners ready.
"Chelsea... I'm not the enemy, I mean - I didn't call Logan thinking - I thought - mom... dad?" he turned to his parents, a deep frown on his face, "You - we all thought - that plane... but you're alive?" he said with more hurt than I could possible fathom right now. Thought they died but they've been alive all this time? How could they do this to us? He thought angrily, images of their funerals and his siblings mourning their beloved parents, the void he felt with his father no longer alive, believed to be dead from the explosion. Yet there was this other side I was reading, Marx and Camilla both were some what relieved to see their parents alive and well, as well as with each other.
As the minutes go by and Gabriel and I are watching their interaction I feel Gabriel go stiffer by the moment, each time his thoughts trying to figure out what happened with what information we had been given.
We were both on the same page, to me it felt like Marx and Camilla were just pawns in something much larger, led to believe that they had some how gotten away, pulling the wool over the Elders eyes, when in reality nothing could be further from the truth.
You think this was about finding us? Gabriel asked. I shook my head, no, Camilla was dead, what I'm not getting is how Marx was able to do what he said...
Jack released Cami's arm, Marx sat stiffly eyeing his parents, then turned to Gabriel and I, "What now?" he asked waiting, and the truth was... I didn't know. My mind was in two places right now, wondering if blocking thoughts from the Elders were more about the mate bond than being an Alpha? And was Camilla able to come back because of my blood? And if so... did that mean Francesca - who Jamie gave my blood - was alive as well?
