Chapter 7 – Chelsea POV (November 27th)

“No, do you guys have any idea what it will do to her when she finds out that her mother went off and had other children and she didn’t even bother to look for Chelsea?” I heard Gabriel through a sleepy haze. I couldn’t tell how much time went by from when I was last awake, but stretching out I listened to the discussion that was being held right outside my door. “Gabriel that may be true, but how will Chelsea feel when the Elders use her brother and sister against her? Two innocent children? One that tried to kill herself and probably won’t survive her first shift – if she has a wolf – because her self worth is in the toilet?” not sure what they were talking about, but hating that it was about me and I wasn’t involved I answered.

“Chelsea feels that you should be asking her about all this instead of discussing this outside of her room… that’s how Chelsea feels,” I snapped. My mother had more children? Younger than myself by what Jack and Gabriel were stating in the hallway. Opening my eyes, I see that I’m not alone, that Remy is actually in the chair next to my bed, smirking at me, while she had stacks of books, folders and another computer around her in the makeshift hospital room Gabriel had in the hotel.

“What is all this?” I said waving my hand around at the scattered documents, just as Gabriel, Casey, Mikael, Logan and Jack entered the room, grim apologetic expressions on their faces.

“These are the files and documents your father left for you with Jack, Casey and Mikael, while you were out we went with Logan to get them. Gabriel – well all of us – thought it was time to get out of dodge for a while, and instead of going to Clearwater we wanted to go somewhere your father purchased…” Jack said watching my expression, expecting something – but I was unsure of what he was really expecting.

“Okay…” I looked to Gabriel, “We can’t stay here Chelsea, too many people are gunning for us right now. I wanted to go to Clearwater but even then, we could be found,” he walked around grabbing documents then helped me get into a sitting position.

“Right here, your dad’s documents show that he bought and island, but it’s not on the map, what we want to do is go-”

I shook my head regretting that completely, “No, about my siblings?” Gabriel sighed, “Yes, you have a little sister, and brother from your mothers side, your dad did the research and confirmation,” he paused Remy handing him a few documents and he passed them to me. Looking over I wasn’t sure what I was looking at until I read the line confirming that these children were biologically related to me – maternal linkage. The words were right there, but I was still focused on something else, “You said one tried to commit suicide and wouldn’t survive the shift?” I said ignoring how I was feeling about this, generalizing it all.

“She did… on November 16th,” Remy answered handing me a file folder, when I went through it all, I was maybe 14 pages in before I questioned, “How did you get these?”

Remy snorted, “How do I get everything else we have?” I lifted a brow not even going there right now. “So… if she shifts, you don’t think she’ll survive the shift?” focused on Jack.

“I truly don’t, you need to have the will to live, the desire has to be there, if she shifted tomorrow, based on what Remy has found, she – Chelsea she – it’s bad. We found – Remy found – video on her as well, I’m one hundred percent sure that if she were to shift tomorrow she’d die.”

I nodded thinking, “Okay and the Elders… do they know…?” I drifted off unsure of their names.

“Oakley and Ben,” Jack answered, “Yeah, do the Elders know about them?”

Everyone nodded, “Is my mother there?” I asked coolly, holding myself together.

“Not according to the documents your father left, it seems that when Oakley was 3 years old, Ben a newborn, she mysteriously disappeared,” Jack said his eyes hard, focused on mine. I nodded. Why am I not surprised that she ran though… leaving was her signature move, you don’t know that she left them too, she didn’t leave you Chelsea… you escaped from that room, Avena answered me.

I didn’t have enough information, but the one thing I had to agree with Gabriel on was that we couldn’t stay here anymore, not when we weren’t really free. Since moving into the hotel I had yet to train a single day, I needed to be able to develop my gifts, learn. Then Angel had yet to even learn what she may be able to do, we couldn’t progress here, we had to be somewhere out of the way – practicing, gaining strength in a short amount of time, coming together to remove the target problem. The Elders.

Glancing around the room I didn’t pick up on a pattern of the layout of documents, “Have you guys gone through all of this?” I waved at the stacks around the room.

“No… there’s too much to search thoroughly, but I’m trying to pick up on things, digitalizing all the data I’m finding, right now I’m trying to figure out what the deal with is certain payments and financing your father has step up. Tracking money, people and payments around, as well as trying to decipher the code half of his data is written in,” Remy said, still skimming papers, not even looking up at me while she answered.

“Why?”

“I’m looking for a pattern, a reason why this island isn’t on a map, whose there? If it exists?” I nodded, not that she could see it. “Okay, why haven’t you just gone and checked?” I ask Gabriel pointblank, his cheeks burn, but his eyes are hard, throwing my heart off, the machine giving signals that no one in this room needed.

“I didn’t want to leave you,” Gabriel says like it’s the most obvious reason in the world. And it is, I wouldn’t want to leave him either if he was in the state I was in. But that was then, “I’m good now. We can all-”

“Uh… excuse me? We?” Gabriel’s eyes hardened impossibly more, the words growled out between his teeth. I wasn’t one hundred percent yet, but I was hardly going to sit back and send him somewhere that wasn’t even on a map.

“Yes… we, as in whoever you’re taking and me,” I clarified, eyeballing him as he was with me, “I’m not at my best but if you go somewhere you’re outnumbered I’d be helpful, plus if my dad was the one who bought it, don’t you think I should be there,” I said not in any way shape or form asking him, swinging my legs over the side. It will be best if you go, I heard third wolf speaking. My third wolf says that I should go with you, I said over the link, smugly. Standing on my own, I wobbled a bit before straightening myself, my equilibrium off.

“Can’t stand straight but she wants to come along,” Gabriel mumbled under his breath. Concentrating I made his legs buckle underneath him, bringing him to his knees, it wasn’t painful but still got his attention, “What were you saying?” I asked while Remy snorted, hiding behind her computer.

“Nothing,” he growled out standing again, lips pursed.

I just nodded, stretching out, “Who are we going with?” I asked the room. “All my guys, Jack is coming and then Logan’s Guardian crew… a total of twenty,” I frowned thinking.

“When did dad buy this island?” I looked over my shoulder at Remy, “1930’s.”

My frown increased, “What?”

“Well… if he bought it then… I’m guessing it has more than twenty people on it…” I shrugged, “I mean I was with him and we never went there… well I’ve never gone there, what if we have to – I don’t know – build huts or something? Did you try Google maps?” Remy scoffed, the others chuckled. Especially Jack and Casey.

“You do realize that some of us were born in the candle light era, right Chelsea? I think we could survive…” I looked away, before smirking back at Jack, “Okay old man,” I teased.

He smiled but it didn’t meet his eyes, I knew he lost McKenna and was hurting but was amazed he was here right now, pushing through. Helping me as always. I had to pay him back, all I hoped was that his mate and Nona were in the Hereafter. I’d be able to bring them back. Give them what they lost by guarding me.

After freshening up, everyone stood in the cramped hospital room, a complete circle around Gabriel, Logan and I, Jack to my left, Gabriel my right, I blinked and one minute I was in the hospital room. The next, an island that wasn’t on any may we searched for it, large, lush and green, white sand beneath our feet, the sun bright and hot, I winced adjusting my eyes to the light.

The men around us, all with weapons, fire power – overkill – you won’t think that if you needed it… Aria whispered interrupting my thoughts.

No one made a move to leave the spot we were in, checking around us, scoping out our surroundings, lush tropical plants growing thick and beautiful hiding whatever else may be on the island. Taking in the feelings from Gabriel and Jack, I felt astonishment, relief and I myself felt exhilaration, even shock that this was actually a place, but I couldn’t help but wonder why Jason had kept so much from me. What was his purpose for purchasing this land? Even more, what was hidden between the expansive tropics? What was behind the towering palm and canopy of other trees? Huts? Avena theorized patronizingly.

Listening, I sent my hearing out, trying to pick up as much as I could and I heard heartbeats, thoughts, and laughter. I couldn’t help but smirk myself, at what I was hearing.

Look at that weak circle they’ve created, if we wanted we could kill them before they even took a step.

Is – is that the Chosen One?

I don’t see Jason…

Gavino – the one next to the Chosen One is a Gavino – I’d know that boy anywhere!

What is the Chosen One doing with a Gavino?

Where is Jason?

How did they find us here?

Materializing from nowhere?

After listening enough, I sighed, “Everyone put your weapons down,” I said to the guys around us, but when they didn’t I used my Alpha tone, stretching out I sent the order further, for everyone here, “ALL WEAPONS DOWN, NO ONE WILL FIRE OR ATTACK ANYONE!”

“Chelsea?” Gabriel growled, having to follow the order as well, I shook my head, reaching out again I found the minds of those that were thinking, please come to the beach, I’m Chelsea Hobbs, Jasons’ daughter, the order clear as well.

“They don’t know what happened to Jason… they have eyes on us right now,” I smiled, “they thought our circle was weak,” the guys around me growled by the insult. I just bit my lip, when my eyes met Logans’, “You can hear anyone?” yes, I thought waiting for the people on this island to approach us.

He shook his head startled from my voice in his head, if you and Gabriel do come here and it is safe, away from the Elders I would like if my sister, Rainy and her children can come here with you?

I couldn’t understand why he’d want them away, after how long it took for him to find her – find them all. My pack is strong, however I’m not around too much, if I knew she were somewhere safe and protected I would rather that - Logan stopped abruptly when three men came from the trees, but only two one older looking gentleman and another with tattoos, brown skin, short hair came forth.

When the two men were two feet away they stopped, their eyes zoning in on me, and one growl from Gabriel and I was ‘hidden’ from their view. Rolling my eyes I pushed through, “Hello, I’m Chelsea…”

“I am Marlon,” The older gentleman said, “We know who you are Luna...” the reverence in his voice unmistakable but baffling to me, to us, “Welcome to your island,” I bit my lip trying not to laugh, but it was hard, especially when they spoke as though I should know what they were speaking of.

“Let’s go back…” I said and both men nodded, looking at all the men, stopping on Gabriel then back to me when Gabriel came next to me, reaching for my hand.

“First, he is my mate,” their eyes widened before focusing back to me, “You all know who I am but I’m still confused here…” Marlon nodded.

“I’ve already introduced myself, this is Leland Parks; our families are on this island. Jason – is he – joining…” he tapered off when my expression saddened. I shook my head, “Uhm… Leo… he attacked Jason when he was alone earlier in the year…” the two men growled, their wolves showing in their eyes, the anger right on the surface. Gabriel pulled me against him, and instantly “Sorry Luna,” both men grumbled, “We would never hurt her,” they said again with the worship like voice. Apologize to the Luna! Their wolves demanded.

Nodding slowly, I got back to topic, “We – I have no idea – came to see if we could hide here-”

“Sorry to interrupt but this is your island Luna, we’ve all been waiting for you,” this time I took a step closer to Gabriel, unsure of how to take this behavior.

“Would you like us to show you to your house?” the one named Leland asked.

“I have a house here?” the confusion in my voice, puzzling Marlon and Leland.

“There are many free houses here, all connected underground, but you have a house here, designed by your father, but built by us,” hmm.

“How many of you are here?”

“Forty-nine of us – your father has been offering us shelter and safety on this island for nearly twenty years,” Marlon Answered. Should have known something was wrong when he hadn’t come around for so long…

“Safety?”

“Yes, we are all shifters, with gifts that the Elders sought out, on the run, your father found us – me first – and brought me here. He would come often, we were searching for Elder Bellamy, but then you became his main focus,” Elder Bellamy?

Shaking my head, Gabriel what do you think?

Are they for real? He questioned.

Yeah, their thoughts are all the same… they won’t hurt me…

Ask for some of our guys to go exploring freely in wolf form, “While we speak, can some of our men explore the island freely, in wolf form?” Does she think we mean her harm? Leland asked Marlon.

“Luna, did Jason now tell you about this place?” the concern in Marlon voice genuine. I shook my head, “Well, we were being hunted, Jason helped us escape here until we could find the Chosen One, which is you. When he found you, we learned of the condition you were in and he decided to hold off, but have still been bringing shifters here every once in a while.”

Explore, I told everyone, but Jack, Gabriel and Logan stayed with me, “So all forty-nine of you never leave this island? How do you get supplies?”

“The last supplies brought was in January, Jason didn’t stay but he brought enough to last for a while, in case the next time he is able to come isn’t for a while; plus we have gardens here, animals for milk, eggs, we fish…”

“You’ve been on this island for twenty years?” I questioned in shock when I began understanding.

“Why don’t we go see your house while I fill you in Luna,” Marlon offered kindly, it was weird, unexpected. His kindness, in thoughts and actions were unsettling, because you were expecting to fight for your island? Aria asked me I just rolled my eyes internally.

Following Marlon, remove the order for weapons Chelsea Gabriel reminds me, but with less of us in the group now I only remove it from Jack, Logan and Gabriel.

Walking up the beach, we trailed behind Marlon, into the bush, seeing worn out paths easy to follow, but as we went he pointed out traps we should avoid. When we got to ‘my house,’ I was not too surprised that it was actually the same as the house that was blown up – minus two or three bedrooms.

Sitting in the kitchen Marlon and Leland began telling me what was going on, “Some of us are here because the Elders actually turned us and want our ability, while some are here because they’ve escaped from one of the research facilities the Elders have-” Luna doesn’t know any of this… Marlon thought in shock.

“Facilities?”

“Yes, owned with humans, experiments conducted on our kind. Not many escape but when they do, they are hunted…” Leland growled.

“So that’s why some never leave,” I said in understanding, Gabriel remained silent at my side, and I knew he was sizing this all up, just taking everything in while Marlon spoke, “We couldn’t return to our families, bring that kind of danger to them so we would run, but we were waiting for something, someone. You…” the faith in his words and thoughts sure, incorruptible. I rested back thinking…

“How many available properties are on the island? You see it won’t just be me, I have a pack…”

Marlon smiled, “There is room for plenty, your father has been planning, and we’ve been preparing as well,” What do you think?

I’m not sure, but do we have other options, they seem loyal…

“Would you and your mate like to look around?” Marlon offered.

Yes.

“Yes, thank you…” I nodded, standing, leading the way, going outside, walking on the path nearly 200 feet we come up to another house, encircled by palm trees, a stone path surrounding the front curving around the side leading to a back I couldn’t see from where I stood “Can we look at this one?” I asked looking at the two-story place that actually had steel covered windows.

“Sure, the security code is 9182, until the one living here chooses something for themselves,” Marlon says entering the numbers, the steel shutters opened revealing large glass windows, the door exposed as well. Entering looking around, the open floor plan, kitchen and living room shared space; stairs leading upstairs with open ceilings and view up rooms upstairs. “Marlon would you excuse us for a moment,” I said not looking at him, not expecting him to object. He doesn’t and in a few moments Gabriel and I are alone.

Walking to him, I wrap my arms around his torso lying my head on his chest, relaxed, what do you think?

That your dad had a lot going on, but they seem loyal to you Chelsea, I think this place would be better than Clearwater, Logan could bring in supplies depending on how long we stay, we’d be safe here, Gabriel thought looking around this place.

In Gabriel’s arms I let myself think about Oakley and Ben, can we put Oakley and Ben here? I ask, Gabriel pulls away to look at my face, if you want them here Chelsea that’s fine… Logan and I will handle it, but we’ll have to take them – make it look like they died. They are letting Oakley go home today but she isn’t going to live with her father… Gabriel continues to tell me about the situation, when he’s done, my mother sure can pick them. I say actually feeling sorry for Oakley, but happy that she at least has Ben. From your fathers notes we don’t know who the Elder has watching them, so we need to have them here before we get here… if we try to make a move after – The Elders will be suspicious, I finished.

Leaving we locked the house up, going outside entering the code, “Are you sure you want this Chelsea, bringing them here?” Gabriel asks, his eyes focused on mine, looking for a hint of indecision but there wasn’t one. No, this is home until we can go back, and I want Oakley and Ben here, I bob my head determined.

Oakley Lawson POV (November 27th after explosion)

“Ben? Aunt Julia? Uncle Grant?” I said my voice shaky, unsure of where I was; I could hear the heartbeats, then their panicked voices as well. Using my enhanced sight, relieved I could see in the dark, I stood searching for a light switch, finding one I turned the lights on. Julia, Ben and uncle Grant immediately stopped screaming, the worry apparent.

Turning back I rushed for Ben, “How did? Where are we Oakley?” he asked worried, you are safe here, the voice in my head said calmly, but that did nothing to ease my heart.

“Grant?” Aunt Julia said in his arms, “we were in the car and then, just here, I – I don’t understand?” they faced us, coming over, checking us out, as worried and confused as Ben and I were. Looking around we were in a house, the windows were covered in steel, we were standing in the living room and on the kitchen. My eyes welled and I was crying for a whole other reason, “Oh god it’s all my fault,” I cried, “I showed the video and they came and punished us,” the words tumbling out as I thought of everyone listening, mom warning me on who not to trust. “I should’ve listened! Why didn’t I listen!?” I rocked back and forth, panic taking over.

“Hey! Hey! Oakley, no… this isn’t – I don’t know what this is but its not because you played the recording…” Uncle Grant tried to immediately reassure me but I remained unconvinced.

Uncle Grant scoped out the place, eyeing the door and alarm code box next to the light switch I turned on, “Come on guys,” he said releasing me, taking my hand while Julia took Bens, following us stopping at door.

Taped to the door is a note, written to me.

Dear Oakley and family,

Please make yourselves at home, we didn’t have a lot of time; this circumstance will be explained to you in a few hours when I return. As I’ve already said, please make yourself comfortable; we’ve filled the fridge with food, as you can see the electricity has already been turned on… I would have rather been here waiting and explaining right away but I had to return home, but will be back tomorrow. Sorry for doing things this way, but it couldn’t be helped.

Chelsea.

“It is my fault,” I said sadly, my chest hurting. No we are all safe now, protected, the voice in my head trying to calm me, but nothing was working, it felt like my lungs weren’t working correctly, I couldn’t breath and as Ben and uncle Grant tried to calm me, my vision danced, their voice got further away, drenched and hazy. I panted, trying to fill my lungs, crying, shaking, until darkness took over, Ben’s worried voice the last thing I heard.
