Hello earthlings! Important note at the end of the chapter :) Enjoy reading!

Chapter 39

My front collided with his solid body and I exhaled softly. I let my arms go limp around his waist as he hauled me up so that his nose touched my neck. I had absolutely no strength but I had never been so happy and content to be in his arms again.

He came for me.

"You had me so worried," he whispered, his voice muffled with his head in the crook of my neck. My body shivered at the sound of him and I couldn't stand on my legs anymore. In a swift movement, Blake cradled me into his arms and a bed sheet was wrapped around my bruised body.

His dark blue eyes flickered to meet mine and I smiled weakly, "You're here."

The corner of his lips quirked up and he held me tighter, "I'll always be."

For the longest moment, we just stared at each other. Me, with no strength and him, holding me. I didn't ever want to part with those eyes nor leave those arms- I just wanted to stay there, frozen in space and peaceful.

The sound of the door creaking broke our stare and Blake's eyes lifted up.

"Alpha, the police have arrived," Chris's voice reverberated loud and clear.

"I'll be there shortly," Blake nodded.

"Is- is the Luna alright?" He asked softly.

I turned my head slightly towards him and smiled, "Just peachy,"

Chris's head shot up in surprise and he grinned, "You're definitely fine," then he turned to Blake, "I'll be down."

The door shut with a click and I found myself all alone with Blake again.

"Hayley..." He started but then stopped. His eyes darted towards me and flashed with pain.

"What is it?" I frowned.

"You promised."

"Promised?" I lifted my head up questioningly.

"You promised that you wouldn't ever leave me."

My eyes widened. I had promised and I broke it, "Oh," I could only manage to say.

"Do you- do you know how it felt when I woke up to see you gone?" His jaw tightened and his eyes flashed in anger and betrayal.

My heart squeezed, "I-I'm sorry, you wouldn't have let me go."

"Of course I wouldn't have- I mean look at your current state!" He growled.

"H-he threatened to attack Mia and your family- of course I had to go!" I snapped back, feeling the growing anger and pain rise.

"You could have told me," he hissed.

"You would have exploded in anger and run right into his trap. He was going to order his men to kill you- they were already surrounding the house," I glared.

"I don't give a fuck! If I had to die to prevent you from being in t-this state then I would do it a thousand times! Do you hear me? A thousand times!" His grip tightened on my back and my eyes widened.

"Then I'm never going to tell you when I'm in danger because I'm the one who would rather die instead of living without you!"

"No- I will not let you risk your life for me! It's my job."

"I don't care if it's your job or not- in a life or death situation, I'll take a bullet for you."

"I'll take the bullet! Don't you dare jump in front of me like in the movies."

"I'll do just that and you won't get time to push me away!"

"Just you wait and see- I'll push you away and take the bullet!"

"Nonsense! I'll push you right back!"

I glared as hard as he glared, our breathing harsh and our eyes fiery. I felt the sign of a bubbling laughter but held back and kept my glare steady. One corner of his lip twitched and I couldn't hold it anymore.

We burst out laughing.

"Oh geez- you- you-" I giggled and held my waist in pain.

Blake's chest vibrated with deep laughter with his head thrown back, "You- you- s-started it!"

"I-I- didn't," I laughed between words. My ribs were extremely painful and I was so thankful he was holding me.

Once the laughs died down, I sighed in relief, "Thank god, we stopped, I thought my ribs would combust,"

"I'm suffering twice more than you, you ungrateful bullet-taker," he snorted.

"Excuse me? Did you just treat me of an ungrateful bullet-taker? More like the great bullet-shielder, that sounds good huh," I smiled smugly and he quirked a brow.

"Great bullet-shielder? I call lame," he rolled his eyes and I pretended to make a horrible gasp.

"You did not! Just for that, no kisses until I get an apology," I huffed and his face changed drastically.

"What? No! I'm sorry!" He sputtered.

I reached over to flick his forehead, "I was just joking, loser."

A relieved smile appeared on his lips, "By the way, that really hurt," He rubbed his forehead sorely and pouted. I smiled softly.

"Thank you for coming," I whispered.

"Anything for my girl," his eyes softened. He leaned in and planted a light kiss on my forehead. I closed my eyes; relishing in the feeling.

"I'm going to kill Higgins for what he did to you," he grumbled against my forehead and I shook my head.

"No, just make sure he's behind bars but don't hurt him,"

"Why? He deserves to be killed after what he did to your father and you!" He growled and I rested my palm against his cheek.

"My father wouldn't want him to be killed,"

At those words, his eyes flickered and he faltered, "Oh."

"Yeah," I smiled weakly.

"Okay," he sighed, "Let's go file a report."

"Thank you," I reached up and kissed his cheek. He stiffened in surprise and he reddened. I cooed and pinched his pink cheeks. He swatted my hand away and with a laugh he descended the stairs and out of the house.

"Close your eyes, I don't want you answering the police when you've just gone through..." He trailed off and I nodded my head against his chest. My heart warmed up. He really cared for me.

As soon as we stepped out, my eyes snapped shut and I made my body go limp.

"Sir! Sir! Is that the victim?" I heard a deep unfamiliar voice ask.

"Yes, she's too weak to be questioned- can I just drop her off in the car with my brothers and then I'll answer questions," Blake ordered and the officer squeaked a 'yes.'

I felt myself being gently placed in a plush seat and next to another person.

"Good job, cupcake, I'll leave you with Sheldon and Tyler," he whispered into my ear sending warm shivers.

Before I could open my eyes, I felt soft flesh on my lips. Gasping into the kiss, my hands twitched around Blake's shirt, his masculine scent overfilling my nostrils. He pulled away all too soon.

"I'm going to take care of Mr. Policeman,"

A smile pulled on my lips and I nodded, he made a move to shut the door but I tugged on his sleeve. I lifted my eyes to stare right into his and before I could stop myself, the words tumbled out of my mouth.

"I love you, Blake."

Pure shock and happiness crossed his face before he leaned down to kiss me again,

"I love you too, Hayley."
