Amour, I am not who you think I am. And I am definitely not the good guy.
He called me Amour. Clearly he meant business.
And what do you think I think of you? I asked.
For sometime, I didn't get a reply and I wondered if I was even going to get one.
Do not ever talk up to a C'Riel again. He said instead.
My lips lifted in a smirk. He directly avoided my question. Interesting.
Your concern is heartwarming. I told him, sarcasm dripping from my words.
At least you admitted I have an affect on you. He said in response.
I was stunned to silence for a few seconds.
Don't flatter yourself. I told him.
I would not dare. He replied and I could almost hear the smirk in his voice.
Stop smirking. I told him and I could tell my voice sounded disgruntled.
Before he could say anything else, I asked, How does this device work?
Much like how any other device works, was the response.
Was he serious? He wasn't going to tell me?
Rafe, I said, my voice sounding annoyed even to me.
Hills. He said.
I removed the device from where it was around my ear and clenched it in my hand.
"Aren't you going to ask me what happened?" Kylee asked me, biting down on her lip.
I sighed, rubbing my forehead.
"Do you want to talk about it?" I asked.
She shook her head, her dark hair fanning her cheeks. She looked down.
"Then, I won't ask about it."
Then I leaned forward a little bit and closed my hand over hers.
"But Kylee," I said and waited till she looked back up at me, "If you want to talk, I'm always here."
She nodded at me, giving me a smile.
I relaxed back into my seat, my brain heading in the direction I wished it wouldn't.
I am definitely not the good guy.
What makes him think I think he's a good guy?
I shook my head. I didn't want to think about our conversation. I wouldn't think about him at all. If he was telling me he wasn't the good guy, I wasn't going to investigate its truth.
He wasn't the good guy? Great. He was. Even better.
Should it make a difference to me? Nope.
Does it make a difference to me?
I paused at that thought.
I don't know.
I huffed out a breath.
It was better I refrained from anymore conversations with him. He was confusing me and I didn't want to be caught in any drama.
And Anya looked like all kinds of drama.
When the Hover reached the building we stayed in, we all got out of the Hover and headed to our rooms after deciding to meet at the Common Cabin.
Freesia said she wanted to change so I accompanied her to her room. She gestured that I enter so I followed her in. Her room looked exactly like mine. A computerised voice told us what time it was and that today was Day Three.
Freesia threw open a small trunk that had been resting near her bed and I stared.
How did she have so many clothes?
She pulled out a sundress, a sundress, and after excusing herself, went into her bathroom.
She owned a sundress?
What was going on?
None of the humans I knew back on earth owned a sundress. We had lost everything in the earthquakes, tsunamis and cyclones that had hit us. We had lost our homes and our loved ones. The most we owned were the clothes we had worn that day and the clothes of people who weren't alive anymore. Sometimes when requested and paid for, weavers may make us some pants. But it was a very expensive procedure and no one I knew had ever opted for it.
How did she have a sundress? And a trunk brimming with clothes?
Maybe it was because she was from another district, where they had sturdier homes and safer living.
I shook my head.
Why was this bothering me? It didn't matter anyway.
I looked up just as Freesia exited her bathroom. I smiled at her as she twirled in her yellow sundress.
"Are you going to wear that?" She asked me and I looked down at my suit.
I nodded and looked up at her, "Of course."
She made a face at me, "Wear something else."
I just laughed and stood up, waving my hand. "I like this. It's comfortable." I said.
Freesia waited for a few minutes, before sighing and nodding.
"Shall we go?" She asked and I nodded and we headed to the Common Cabin.
When we reached the Common Cabin, we saw people lining up. Both Freesia and I exchanged looks before we both simultaneously started to look for Wolf.
When we saw his dark head, we headed towards him.
I tugged on his arm, "What's going on?" I asked.
He grinned down at me. "They're taking us for training." He told me.
Both Freesia and I had similar confused expressions.
"Both of you have Field training now," he informed us.
"And how do you know that?" Freesia asked with raised eyebrows.
"I have a copy of both your schedules." He informed us, a proud smile on his face, his grey eyes twinkling.
"Creep," I said, slapping a hand to his shoulder.
He gave me a wide smile in response and ushered us to stand in front of him. I realised that the small C shaped device that Rafe had given me was still in my hand. I pressed the small structure onto the side of my communication device that was strapped to the side of my hip and it fit perfectly around the edge of the device.
With a proud smile, I looked forward, trying to see who was standing at the beginning of the line. When I couldn't see anything but heads, I gave up and looked around, wondering where Kylee was.
Freesia pressed a hand to my arm and squeezed. I turned to look at her and saw that her gaze was trained elsewhere. I followed her gaze and stilled.
Kylee.
She was standing near the blonde C'Riel again, seeming to be in a hushed conversation with him.
I pressed my lips together.
"What do you think we should do?" Wolf asked, leaning forward so I could hear him.
"I'm not sure." I said matching his low voice.
"He's the guy right?" Freesia murmured, "Who was laughing at her?"
I nodded slowly, my eyes still trained on the two of them.
I stepped forward ignoring Freesia when she murmured a warning. She came forward and caught my hand again.
"Are you sure you want to interfere, Amour?" Freesia asked me, her anxious eyes flitting to Kylee and the blonde C'Riel.
I looked at Freesia, "Freesia, the last time she was with him she was practically in tears."
"She seems to be holding her ground." Freesia murmured.
I felt Wolf at my back and I knew that it was his silent way of saying whatever I was going to do, he would support me. I turned to throw him a small smile in acknowledgement of his gesture.
I looked forward, debating as to what to do. I watched as Kylee lifted a hand to place it on the C'Riel and watched the blonde all but flinch away. Kylee's shock and hurt at his reaction sealed it for me.
I started forward, towards Kylee, Wolf at my back and Freesia at my side despite her apprehension.
I came to stand in front of Kylee, my glare directed at the C'Riel. His deep maroon gaze lifted to meet my green one. He recognised the hostile expression on my face and his own shifted to match it.
"Kylee, let's go." I told her, quietly. Kylee's gaze shifted from me to the C'Riel next to her, but mine remained fixed to the deep maroon ones that burned with dislike.
"Kylee.." Wolf trailed, his tone indicating that this wasn't the time to hesitate.
Kylee swallowed and stepped towards us and the C'Riel's eyes flickered away from mine to the back of Kylee's head.
Kylee continued to walk away and Freesia was quick to follow her.
The C'Riel's eyes came back to meet mine, his blonde eyebrow raising, a smirk slipping onto his face as if he thought that I found something attractive about him and that was why I wasn't looking away.
"Stay away from her." I said, my tone even.
The blonde raised his eyebrows.
"You are hardly the person to tell me that," he told me, scoffing.
I stepped closer and Wolf's hand came to wrap around my arm, holding me back.
The blonde C'Riel resumed glaring at me when he realised I'd moved forward in a threatening gesture.
"And why is that?" I asked, my voice going quieter.
The blonde opened his mouth but a familiar voice interrupted us.
"What is going on here?" Anya asked, stepping towards us, her arms crossed.
I leaned back, crossing my hands and smiled at Anya.
"A friendly conversation." I said.
Her eyebrows raised and she turned to look at the blonde for confirmation. He met my eyes and read the dare in my expression to tell her the truth. Brackets formed around his mouth in displeasure.
"Of course, Anya. What else could it be?" He asked and turned and walked away.
Wolf and I turned to leave as well when Anya called me name. I turned to look at her.
"Don't make enemies you can't fight." She told me.
"I never do." I said, smiling at her, then turning and walking away.
Wolf caught up to me and whistled while waving his hand like he was fanning himself.
"What?" I asked.
"All that sexual tension between you and Anya has my hormones getting excited." He told me.
I let out a laugh and shook my head at him.
"You're such a guy." I said.
Wolf pressed a hand to his heart, "Why, thank you! I've always thought so myself."
I rolled my eyes at his ridiculousness. We joined the line and I looked around for Freesia and Kylee. When the line started to move forward towards the exit, Wolf and I hesitated not wanting to leave without them.
We took a step away from the line, standing on tiptoes to look over the large crowd.
Where were they?
"The Hover is not going to wait for you," a voice said and I turned.
Narrowed amber and black eyes burned into mine.
I felt my own eyes narrow in response.
Wolf cleared his throat and said, "We're just looking for our friends."
Rafe's gaze slowly left mine to meet Wolf's. Then he tilted his head towards the right, "They are near the book shelves."
Wolf quickly took off. I started to follow when his voice stopped me again.
"I distinctly remember telling you to not speak up to a C'Riel." He said.
I turned to look at him.
We stared at each other for awhile, before he raised his eyebrows as if to say 'Well?'.
"That wasn't a question." I said, taking pleasure in pissing him off.
Annoyance flickered in his gaze before he assumed his usual pose-arms crossed, feet spread.
"Why do you keep inviting trouble?" He asked me.
"Trust me, I don't go looking for it." I said.
"Now if you excuse me," I said again, turning away and starting towards the book shelves.
"Put the Com on." He said.
I turned to look at him, confused.
He tapped a finger to his ear.
"Put the Com on." He repeated.
Oh. The small C device.
"Now...why would I do that?" I said and walked away. ______________________________________

Hope you liked it. As small as it was.
