"She's right." I said, looking from Anya, who had decided to head towards us, to Rafe.

Rafe's eyes stayed on mine.

"About?"

"You should stay away from me." I said.

Amusement filled his expression and he let out a laugh. It was a short sound, but it was something that sent a thrill through my veins. His had leaned his head back and the line of his jaw and his throat had been illuminated by golden sunshine. When he looked at me again, there was something more amber about his gaze than black.

And I liked that.

I really really liked that.

Anya was finally near us, when she stepped closer to Rafe. Her hands were gloveless and dirty too and it brushed Rafe's.

Rafe looked down at her, before looking at me again.

But he didn't move away.

Anya looked at me.

Rafe was looking at me.

"Okaaay." I said, deciding to leave before this situation could get anymore awkward.

I started to step around them, when Rafe put his hand out in front of me, to stop me.

He looked at Anya and asked her something in a language that was foreign to my ears. I watched mesmerised as the words flowed out of his lips, like butter, honey and something musical.

I looked down at the arm that was in front of me. It was lean, built and strong looking, leading to a muscled shoulder that the suit did nothing to hide.

The dark hair that curled around his ear was a stark contrast to his skin, though it matched the black of his eyes.

I shook my head and looked down at his hand again.

I narrowed my eyes while they had their conversation.

I cleared my throat and Rafe looked at me.

"As fun as this has been," I said, pressing my index finger to the silver-suited forearm of Rafe's and pushed it away.

I caught the absolute shock on Anya's face in my periphery, just before I walked away.

I headed towards where I had seen Freesia. I kneeled near her and we both silently enjoyed playing our fingers through the damp soil, exchanging small smiles once in awhile.

We were then instructed on how watering the soil worked and how the manure was to be spread so that it can add nutrition to the soil and aid in the growth of the plants.

We were then asked to walk a few hundred meters. We did so quietly, all our minds lost in our own thoughts. Even Freesia didn't ask me what Rafe had told me.

Suddenly I watched as we were surrounded by plants.

Purple and green plants that came up to my shoulders. I started to walk towards it when I heard Rafe's voice.

"We have to trim them or they will grow into trees. And we will have no use for these plants once they grow into trees as they can turn into the tallest trees in the world." He said.

From the box he had had before, he took out a long scissor-like structure and proceeded to show us how the plants were to be trimmed and to what height.

Soon the scissors were spread around and all of us got to trimming, careful to keep the scissors away from the red round fruits that we were specifically instructed to keep from cutting/plucking.

Despite my hair sitting on top of my head in a bun, I had started to sweat slightly.

Just when I finished thinking that, a hood like structure pulled free from the back of my my suit and covered my head; and almost immediately I felt cool, as if the suit itself was producing a cooler environment for me.

Freesia who was standing right beside me, let out a whistle.

"Whoa. I want one to-" just as she was saying that, her own hood lifted off from her suit to cover her head.

"Awesome!" She said, brandishing her scissors around in excitement.

"Hey, careful with that." I said catching hold of her hand.

She grinned at me and I smiled back and we got to trimming again.

***

We were all heading back to the Hovers, after wiping our hands on the cloths that were provided to us and safely dropping them into disposals that were placed on the edge of the fields, as Freesia and I indulged in a serious conversation about Kylee.

"What did she say?" I asked her.

Freesia made a face, "She wouldn't say anything. She wouldn't even tell me his name."

"We'll call him Ass." I muttered and Freesia laughed.

Then she nudged me.

"So what about you?" She asked.

I threw her a puzzled look.

"What about me?" I asked.

She smirked at me, "Don't act all coy. Tell me what's happening with Hottie McMysterious." She said, walking backwards in front of me so she could see my face.

I rolled my eyes.

Lord above, save me.

"I promise you, nothing is going on." I said.

She grinned and said, "Sure, sure." as she turned around to walk away, whistling with a bounce in her step.

I caught up to her and nudged her shoulder with mine. Because she was much smaller, she stumbled a few steps. She threw me a wide mouthed look of shock, before running up to me and nudging me back. Harder.

I stumbled a few steps.

"Oh, you're so dead." I threatened and ran after her as she took off running.

"You can never catch me!" She yelled.

"No, but I can catch the both of you!" A voice behind me yelled.

Both Freesia and I turned to see Wolf running as fast as he can towards us; the wind whipping his hair back from his forehead and his eyes catching the sun light.

Both Freesia and I squealed and ran for our lives.

Wolf caught Freesia first, lifting her off the ground and placing her aside as she laughed her head off.

I had stopped to take a breath, when he started to head towards me.

I held my hands up.

"Wolf...seriously...Just st-" the rest of my sentence was unintelligible as he started to run and I panicked and ran as well.

I dodged around people and ducked under pointing hands, before skidding to a stop when I saw a crowd standing. No way I could run that way, there was no place to go.

"Got you now! If I catch you Amour, you're going to owe me big time." Wolf yelled from behind me.

Oh damn!

I turned around to face him, knowing that the only way out was past him.

I decided to start running towards him and maybe duck underneath him and escape. No way I would owe him anything.

Just as I stepped forward, a large chest blocked my vision. My head snapped up and I met black and amber eyes. I looked past Rafe and saw Wolf skid to a stop, his eyes narrowing.

Both Wolf and I were breathing hard, faces flushed; while Rafe didn't have a single hair out of place.

My gaze slid off Wolf who was glaring at the back of Rafe's head, to meet Rafe's eyes. His arms were behind his back, facing Wolf.

"Um," I said, my voice coming out a little breathless, "What are you doing?"

Rafe brought his right hand forward and held something out to me.

I blinked up at him, before looking down.

A round deep red fruit sat in his hand.

A fruit.

I stared up at Rafe in shock.

These were the fruits that hung on the plants we had trimmed. We had been instructed specifically not to pluck them.

"Rafe..." I trailed off.

A small smile lifted his lips.

He leaned forward and said in a low voice, so only I could hear, "Take it, I dare you."

I looked from him to the fruit.

"It won't make me grow whiskers or webbed feet will it?" I whispered as I gingerly picked up the fruit from his palm, careful not to touch his hand.

I examined the fruit curiously, turning it around in my fingers, as it shined in the sun. A deep red.

My mouth watered.

"I assure you, it will not." He said.

I looked up at him. His amber and black gaze razored straight through to my green ones. His stance not his usual arms crossed and feet spread posture; but a relaxed pose, with his arms by his side, his head tilted a little to the side as he watched me watch the fruit.

I decided then.

"I'll take your word for it, then."

Wolf threw his hands up in the air in exasperation and stalked away.

I pursed my lips at that and sighed.

Rafe watched me silently.

I looked at the fruit.

"So why'd you do it?" I asked, looking up at him.

His eyebrows raised ever so slightly.

"Do what?" He asked.

"Stop him from catching me." I said.

Rafe looked down with a small smile as he shifted his weight to his other leg.

"I found I am rather possessive of your debts." He said.

I blinked.

"My debts?" I asked, confused.

Rafe started to walk backwards, away from me.

"Cannot have you owing anyone else than me, now can I?" He asked and turned and walked away.

He had done this because Wolf has said that I would owe him if he caught me?

"So I assume I owe you a debt now?" I asked to his back and when he turned, I indicated the fruit.

A hush spread around us and I looked around.

The C'Riel standing around us were staring at me, the fruit in my hand and then at Rafe, their faces registering shock.

What was going on?

Rafe considered me for a few seconds before shaking his head, no.

"You owe me nothing." He said and walked away.

I tilted my head.

He had done something for me without expecting something in return?

Before I could take a step forward, people and C'Riel milled about me, throwing me curious looks as they walked past.

I couldn't really move anywhere, because it seemed like everyone wanted to take a look at me. Mainly the C'Riel.

I met their confused expressions with a very similar one.

When a blonde female C'Riel looked at the fruit and then me, her gaze shifting away when I met her eyes, I quickly asked her, "Is something wrong?"

Her eyes shot to me and she shook her head and walked away.

What the hell just happened?

C'Riel murmured in their language, their eyes shifting to me and away.

My eyes narrowed and I decided I needed to speak to Rafe.

I pulled out my communication device and sent him a message, not wanting to use my Com in front of them. God forbid, their tongues loll out or something.

People are staring at me. What did you do?

I started to walk around people and get to a Hover before I was abandoned here.

When my device let out a tone, I checked it.

Come join me in the Hover and maybe I will tell you.

I flexed my jaw. He wanted me to travel back with him?

Another debt? I asked.

The response was quick, as if he had expected the question.

He replied saying: An option.

I huffed out a breath.

You're not really giving me much of an option here.

His response was: That is just your perception of it.

I hate you. I sent.

Give me my fruit back then. He said.

I pouted.

No. I sent.

Then, I sent again.

I'll be there.

His annoying reply was: I know.

I was ready to strangle him the second I saw him. I walked towards the Hovers and looked out for a tall and arrogant brand of C'Riel.

When I saw him leaning against a Hover, waiting for me, I headed towards him.

I stopped for a second realising that I needed to tell Freesia I was getting onto another Hover. I sent her a message and just in case sent one to Kylee too, because Freesia hadn't replied the last time I messaged her.

I resumed walking towards Rafe, shooting him a glare.

"I saved you a spot." He murmured as I walked by.

"How generous of you," I muttered, getting into the Hover and headed straight to the back. I heard a chuckle behind me, but didn't allow myself to think about it. How good it sounded and how much I liked that it was because of something I said.

I dropped down on a seat, when my communication device let out another tone.

It was a response from Kylee letting me know that she would let Freesia know.

I set my communication device back onto my hip where it strapped itself.

"Boyfriend?" Rafe asked as he slipped into the seat near me, careful to keep a safe distance from me.

I snorted.

"Not going to have that?" He asked and when I looked at him, he inclined his head at the fruit.

I threw him a suspicious look.

"At least there are witnesses." I murmured and he chuckled again.

I carefully bit into the fruit.

I'm pretty sure I died.

"OhmyGosh. I think I'm in love." I said, as the most amazing sweet flavour spread across my palette. I remembered chocolate from when I was really young, and this reminded of chocolate.

A fruit that tasted like chocolate. Oh my God.

"It would not be a good idea to fall in love with me," Rafe said.

I threw him a what are you talking about look, while taking another bite of the most amazing fruit in the world.

He looked at me for a second.

"Don't fall in love with me." He said.

I raised an eyebrow at him before rolling my eyes.

"Don't flatter yourself." I said.
