*keep in mind that this story is based in the future. That hasn't really mattered in the past but it does in this chapter. :) Also I do apologize if anyone was offended by the last chapter. I hope you will keep reading there's a lot that still has to happen. One more thing to keep in mind, I'm not an expert on brains. That may not make sense right now but after you read the chapter it will*

Jessica

I woke up the next morning with my whole body sweating and shaking. I gasped and pulled the covers up over my body with my not broken hand and took in my surroundings.

Stefan sat in a chair in one corner while his father, Cameron, and Peter stood in the other. Basically the trio of doom, and Cameron. I eyed Stefan wearily. His normal perverted smirk was gone from his face. Instead he looked angry and impatient. The Romano and Peter looked pleased, while Cameron didn't seem to have any expression on his face.

"Aww look at the poor little thing. She looks like a kicked puppy that got lost in an ally way." I shrunk back into the bed to try and escape all of their prying stares.

"Gosh darling I had no idea you were so afraid of my son." Romano started. I looked at him confused. Of corse I was afraid of him. He raped me.

"Your son raped me." I glanced back and forth between him and his son. Stefan clenched his fists tight and then released them. I was confident he wouldn't hurt me with other people in the room. "Is there any universe I wouldn't be afraid of him?"

"Oh honey you are so terribly misinformed."he said laughing and then sat on one of the extra chairs Cameron had brought in while he was babysitting me. "My son didn't rape you. He is more of a gentleman than that despite what you might believe. You see we tested a new device we've been developing for the past couple of years on you last night. Let me tell you how it works. You seem like a smart girl maybe you'll appreciate the science behind it. The device works like a dream enhancer. For a certain amount of time it changes your brain chemistry while hooked to your head. Because of the temporary chemical changes the brain undergoes your subconscious dream of what you fear most. The dream would feel terribly real and vivid. Although I've never tried. Actually no ones ever tried it. You're the first." He said clapping his hands like it was an honor to have my worst fears brought to the surface and basically played out. "If you're worried about permanent damage we don't think that it will have any lasting effects. Just maybe some nightmares occasionally." He chuckled and threw his hands in the air. "But we don't really knew your our first."

"You're sick." I croaked out. My throat was dry. I must have been actually screaming while I dreamed. "How could you do this. How could you be so messed up to think of something like this?" I said becoming more and more angry. "I guess I knew you were monsters though after hearing what you did to Joseph's mother." I growled my throat feeling better the more I spoke.

"First don't you ever speak of Joseph's mother again. You will regret it. What you've experienced so far will be like nothing compared to what I could do. Second you can thank Peter here for the device." He turned to Peter for a second." You know we really should name it."

"Yes sir." Peter said in his creepy voice. "I'll get right on that sir." He bowed his head a little.

"Good. Right where were we." He snapped his fingers like the word would come to him that way. "Oh yes the device's origins. Well you see I came to Peter with a problem. I told him that some of the other men were insubordinate. I told him we needed a solution. Peter is very innovative when it comes to problems like these. Anyway we talked, we worked, blah blah blah, and now here we are. That was 3 years ago." He said triumphant.

"I can't believe your brains could be so twisted. You're going to use this on your own men. Your supposed to be like family."

Romano's eyes darkened a couple shades. "Don't compare us to Joseph. My leadership is completely different. I could rule the world. All Joseph could do is politely ask someone to please pay him for the merchandise he gave them. He's not actually going to get anything done."

"You obviously don't know him." I scoffed and crossed my arms over my chest.

"I don't know him!" He stood so violently the chair behind him flew backwards and landed on is side. "You don't know him. You've known him what, a couple of months. I have known Joseph his whole life. Him and his family were very good friends of mine. We were going to merge the gangs together. But they crossed me. That woman she..." He yelled in frustration. "They betrayed me. She betrayed me. Took everything from me so her little boy would have a legacy to live on." His eyes took on a crazed look. Everyone in the room began to feel uneasy. Except Peter. He looked right at home. "So I took her and I made her hurt like she hurt me. And then I sent her back to him." He grinned evilly. Chills raced down my spine all the way to my toes. "In pieces. Made him feel what it was like to live without her like I did." By him I assumed he meant Joseph's father. "That family ruined everything for me. Took most of the men, and the money. I had to start again from scratch."

My stomach began to feel queasy from the picture of what they did to Joseph's mother. It had to have been much worse than what they did to me.

After a moment Romano seemed to regain his composure. "But look at me now. I'm better than Joseph and his silly little gang. He'a too weak to live up to his parents expectations. I knew from the start when he was a little boy and wanted to go pick dandelions and chase butterflies he would never fill his fathers shoes."

I opened my mouth to say something, but stopped short when there was a knock on the door. The small room was already cramped and starting to get hot with everyone's body heat floating around.

"Come in."

"Boss. We need to start getting ready for... tonight. You all have been in here for awhile."

I furrowed my eyebrows. Were they watching me while I was sleeping? I narrowed my eyes. They probably wanted to make sure their machine didn't kill me, seeing as how they haven't ever tested it before.

"Right. Of course." Romano brushed the nonexistent dust from his suit. "Right Stefan let's go."

Romano,Peter, Stefan, and Cameron all left the room. "Get better soon darling." Romano called out before the door shut behind them.

A little while later Cameron came back and rushed over to my side. "I am so sorry. I tried to get them to not do it, I swear I did but they were dead set on testing it." He continued explaining but I tuned out focusing in on the pain in my side.

"Cameron." He continued on talking not finished with his apology. "Cameron!" I yelled much louder. "Are you sure it didn't actually happen. It all felt so real." I said recalling the terrorizing memories.

"Yes I'm positive. I was here the whole time." He said and brushed the sweaty hair away from my face.

"Well I think my stitches broke open." I said pushing the blanket down to my hips revealing a large blood stain on the sheets on my left side and a small trickle of blood running from the wound.

"My god!" He gasped. "We didn't see it!" He said panicked. "I'll go get the doctor." He jumped up and ran out the door swinging the door shut behind him.

I closed my eyes and tried to not think about the throbbing pain in my side. I had heard somewhere that thinking about it makes it worse.

Not too long later Cameron came rushing in with the Doctor. MaryAnne was her name.

"Child I told you to try not to move. What are you doing breaking your stitches open?!" She said aggravated.

"Well it wasn't exactly my fault. They hooked me up to this..-" I started to say but Cameron cut me off.

"She had a really bad nightmare." MarryAnne looked back and forth between me and Cameron with her wrinkled eyes narrowed.

She stayed silent and returned to her task. I yelped in pain when she pulled on the shredded stitches. "This is going to hurt honey." She said sympathetically. "I'm sorry I don't have any pain medication. I'm just going to have to do this." I started to sweat again slightly afraid of the pain.

I but my lip. "Alright just do it. If there's no other way." I added hopefully.

She shook her head sorrowfully. "Cameron come and hold her hand." She instructed.

She clipped the loops in each stitch so she could pull them out more easily and less painfully. The real pain started when she began to stitch the skin together again. I screamed in pain until the sheet was stuffed in my mouth. I bit down on the sheet hard. It was better than biting my tongue or cracking my teeth against each other.

After minutes of this. MaryAnne tied off the line and sat back breathing heavily, but it was nothing compared to my erratic breathing. Cameron pulled the sheet out of my mouth. I slumped against his shoulder. He smoother the back of my hair and rubbed circles on my back.

"You should be able to go to sleep now. I get the impression it was a rough night." MaryAnne checked and changed the other bandages before leaving.

"I don't know what makes her think I'll be able to go to sleep. I'm in pain." I grumbled.

Cameron cracked a smile and laid my head down on my pillow. "Well she was right. You've had one heck of a night."

"I'm scared to go back to sleep." I whispered. "What if they come back."

"I'll protect you." He said matter of factly.

"You didn't last time." I looked him in the eye.

He frowned. "Well I will this time."

"You promise?" I asked him as seriously as I get.

"Yes. Nothing will happen to you. I won't leave your side. When you wake up Joseph will be here to take you back to your castle." Cameron joked with a far away look in his eye.

"Thank you Cameron." I relaxed against the bed taking comfort from his hand holding mine.

"Your welcome Jessica." He whispered.
