It was later that night, that Angela found out Adrianno was going to be okay. She was standing by Mike's bed where Adrianno was carried to, and the family's doctor had explained he was going to be fine, he had been through worse.
After Angela had gotten no response from Adrianno, she quickly grabbed his phone from the floor before it locked again. She thought of the only people she could call for help, it had to be Franco or Mike, she chose Mike. He had come with others to get Adrianno and brought the pair of them to his apartment, where the doctor was waiting.
"If you didn't call for help and just left him there, he may have bled to death." The doctor spoke up, making Angela choke up.
"It's going to be alright Angela." Mike said quietly, bringing her into a hug. She had been crying for a while but wiped her tears away once Mike had spoken. She just nodded, her eyes red and swollen. "He'll be awake soon and then you can talk to him. Okay?" he added, letting her go.
"Yeah, okay." She tried to smile at Mike, but he knew it was forced. Angela sat in the room for a while on her own, Mike and the other men had gone outside to the living room to talk. She knew Mike was keeping something from her and she was afraid of what that was. Adrianno getting stabbed was serious, and her mind began racing as she wondered who the hell would do something like that. But then she had remembered the night Adrianno came to her house with a gun, she knew he was dangerous and only realised now that he must have some enemies who were pretty dangerous too.
Angela felt a little stuffy in the bedroom, and so went outside to ask Mike could she go downstairs for a bit of air. He was a little preoccupied with the discussion he was in and so quickly nodded, letting her leave on her own. It was dark and freezing outside but she took in a deep breath and let the cold air caress her cheek.
Angela leaned her back against the wall at the side of Mike's building, putting her head back and closing her eyes. She needed to relax, her tears had stopped but her thoughts hadn't. There was a lot going on in her head at that moment and she needed to clear it. The quietness around calmed her until she heard footsteps coming towards her and quickly opened her eyes. Angela thought it could be someone passing by so she began walking towards the front door of the building when someone pushed her to the wall.
He grabbed her by the shirt and dragged her around to the side of the building again, the two in complete darkness now. Angela had her eyes wide open but was unable to see in dark. He picked her up by the collar, still not speaking a word. She squirmed and pointed her feet to stand on the ground again but he had her high up.
"Let me go." She screamed and he did so but put a hand forcefully over mouth, bashing her head against the brick wall behind her. The fear and panic that formed within her was beginning to make her shake again, along with the pain and shock of what was happening. Angela hoped, she prayed to God that it wasn't him, she hoped he hadn't found her and here he was, ready to take her home. Tears welled in her eyes and she felt as if she wanted to throw up. But the man finally spoke.
"Keep your mouth shut." He grumbled and her panic had subsided slightly, it certainly didn't sound like him but maybe he was the least of her problems right now. There may have been other men out there that were worse than him, just like this one right in front of her. What would he do to her? Would anyone stop him? What was he planning? And who even was he? "Are you scared Angela?" he whispered in her ear.
"Leave me alone." She shoved at him hard and pushed him, hitting and scratching and going whatever it took to get him off of her but it didn't work. His grip on her arm and around her mouth tightened.
"Because you should be." He laughed menacingly at her trying to scramble from his grip but it only tightened when they both heard a voice from a few feet away.
"Adamo! Toglile le mani di dosso!" (Get your hands off of her!) Adrianno shouted, running towards both of them. Angela looked down at his torso and could tell by the look on his face that his wounds were still hurting him. He must have only woken up.
"Stai lontano o te ne pentirai Adrianno." (Stay away or you'll regret it Adrianno) Adamo grabbed her chin and bashed her head off of the wall again. Angela screamed beneath Adamo's hand but it came out muffled. She watched Adrianno's eyes glaze over in anger and although he was wincing as he did it, he tackled Adamo to the ground. He was choking him, both of his strong hands gripping Adamo's neck tightly.
"Adrianno!" Angela screamed again when Adamo's face began to purple. Adrianno stopped strangling the man beneath him and punched him instead, beating him within an inch of his life, or so it seemed like that to Angela. She had always been the one beaten up, but never saw anyone else become so violent in her life beside her boyfriend. She tensed up every time Adrianno would throw another dig at Adamo but it didn't matter now, he was limp underneath him. "You'll kill him." She said loudly in complete shock, not wanting to witness any act like this right now or ever in her life.
Adrianno stopped abruptly and shot his head around to look at her. Angela jumped back at the look he had in his eyes. It had been dark but her adjustment to the lack of light had enabled her to see the horror his face was showing. Violent Adrianno had snapped out of it, standing up quickly and brushing off his pants.
"Let's go." He grabbed her arm roughly, bringing her around and through the door to the lobby of Mike's building. He almost forced her into the elevator and smashed one of the floor buttons with his finger. The doors slid closed and Angela tried to shrug out of his grip. She knew he didn't want her to be afraid of him, but she couldn't help it right now. She was already shaken up enough without seeing Adrianno nearly beat a man to death. Adrianno didn't let go, just sent an icy and threatening glare her way.
"You're hurting me." She said through gritted teeth. His expression softened a little and his grip loosened immediately but he didn't let her go.
"As soon as I get my stuff out of that asshole's apartment, we're going home. Don't talk to anyone, don't look at anyone, don't open your mouth." He said angrily at her, just as the elevator pinged open. "Understand?" he asked, his black eyes wide. She just nodded and closed her eyes, unable to look at him while he was like this.
Adriano rapped on the door with his swollen and bloody knuckles and the pair was soon greeted by a man Angela didn't recognize.
"Togliti di mezzo. Adesso!" (Get out of my way. Now!) Adrianno grumbled. She watched the man quickly jump out of the way as Adrianno stormed into the open planned living room, Angela tagging along with him. He finally let her go once he saw Mike there on a sofa.
"You! You fool!" Adrianno almost ran at his brother and shouted in his face. "What the fuck were you thinking Mike? You know I can't let her out of my sight!" his face had turned a crimson shade with rage.
"I'm sorry." Mike raised his voice back at his brother and then his eyes diverted from his and straight to Angela, who had her head turned down to the ground but was watching with lowered eyes. "Shortcake, are you okay?" Mike brushed past Adrianno and closed the long distance between them. Angela only nodded meekly at Mike, who had a worried expression written all over his face.
"You care now? You let her out without anyone to look after her. If I hadn't have woken up god knows what Adamo would've done to her." Adrianno snorted.
"It was my fault. I'm sorry-" Angela tried to speak.
"What did I tell you Angela?" Adrianno warned from across the room. Angela noticed how all of the men in the room were watching intently, none opening their mouths. Although Adrianno's voice was not as boomingly loud as when he was speaking to Mike, it still pierced her ears and made her flinch. Angela only looked down at the ground again but saw Mike shoot Adrianno a glare from the corner of her eye.
"What the hell are you doing Adrianno? Stop talking to her like that." Mike said daringly.
"Whatever, I'm going to get my keys and then I'm leaving. Don't forget how lucky you were tonight. Anything could've happened to her." Adrianno said in what sounded like disgust before quickly going to the bedroom and coming back with his jacket and keys in his hands.
Angela and Adrianno left without saying another word. Adrianno led her downstairs again and out to his car. She noticed the bleeding on his stomach had begun again once she looked down at his torso.
"Adrianno you're bleeding. Are you sure you're okay to drive?" she blurted out, earning another deathly glare from him.
"Just get in." The drive was quiet and quick. Both didn't speak a word to each other. Adrianno was too busy thinking while Angela was too scared.
Once they had gotten in, and Adrianno closed the door, Angela's shock began to ware off and now she was feeling the pain in the back of her head from a while ago. Adriano's anger had simmered down a little and he was already beginning to regret a lot of things. One though, was definitely not beating up Adamo.
He knew he shouldn't have done it while Angela was around, he knew she was already beginning to show signs that she was turning back to the way she was when she first arrived here. Her flinching, her quietness, her shaky voice, it made him feel sick that it was all because he couldn't control himself. But once he saw Adamo with his hands on her, he couldn't control himself. If anything was to happen to her, it would be his fault, and he didn't know how he could live with it.
Adriano had done a lot of evil things in his life, and not one time had he thought about them twice. He wouldn't bat an eye at some of the things he had done to other people but even the thought of Angela getting hurt would kill him. Now, Adriano didn't know how to act, he didn't know what to say. He knew he had messed up and he couldn't fix it with a simple apology.
She took off her jacket and padded into the kitchen carefully, Adrianno following behind her like a lost puppy. He would open and close his mouth a few times from behind her, not able to get any words out yet. Angela opened a cupboard up above her and huffed as she stretched out her arm as much as she could to grab something from the top shelf.
Adriano didn't want her falling again when she began to climb up so lifted her quickly onto the counter so she could reach. She just glanced at him out of the corner of her eye and then got what she needed. He saw her opening a box of painkillers and popping out two for herself and then another two was who he presumed was himself. She closed the cupboard door and pushed the tablets towards him.
She turned with her back to him again, only this time Adriano noticed the spots of blood that had appeared at the top of her neck and the back of her head. Although her hair was down and dark, he could still see it and it only made him clench his jaw in complete rage at what Adamo had done.
"You're bleeding." He took her arm, stopping her from what she was doing. She flinched at the contact and tried to calm herself down a little. He saw the look of fear in her eyes and felt worse than he had before, he didn't think it was possible but he knew now it was. "Let me see." He said gently, but she was frozen until he turned her slightly and moved her head forward a little to inspect the damage. It looked back but it wasn't serious, he would call his doctor tomorrow to visit and sort her out.
"Does it hurt?" he asked once he had turned her again to face him. She gulped and swallowed back tears, nodding weakly at him.
"D-Did y-you kill him?" she plucked up the courage to ask about what was on her mind. Sure, she wasn't worried about the man that had tried to attack her, but she didn't want to think that Adriano had killed a man.
"No, but the bastard's lucky I didn't. He was still breathing when we left him." Angela's eyes widened in shock at his words.
"Don't worry about him Angela, I'm worried about you. Does your head hurt?"
"Why do you care? All you do sometimes is just shout at me and order me around." She narrowed her eyes at him, wondering where she had got the courage to speak up. She pushed past him to walk through the living room to her bedroom but he stopped her again.
"Well you're the one that went outside on your own. Adamo could've done much worse that shout at you Angela." He warned her. "You know it's dangerous."
"No actually, I didn't think it would ever become dangerous to go outside and get a bit of air. If it was unsafe for me to do that, I wasn't sure and I'd like to know since when?" Her voice remained calm and Adriano didn't know how she done it.
Adriano had quickly forgotten how much he had kept things in secret from her. He knew he hadn't told her anything about Adamo and he didn't want to. But he didn't want her to think she was right. She was unaware of the dangers he had brought upon her and Adriano had no one to blame for that but himself.
"We shouldn't have even been there in the first place." He grumbled and she looked up at him, her face showing her tiredness and anger in one.
"If I left you inside on your bed you would've bled to death Adriano!" she raised her voice but she still wasn't shouting. He knew she was right again and this made him more frustrated than ever.
"Well- well..." he was left with no comeback.
"I'm going to bed." She sighed sadly and then walked out. Adriano watched her as she left, leaving him in a ball of frustration on his own in the living room.
He fucked up, he just knew it. And now he didn't know how to even talk to her about it.
