Diaz stood there watching the couple that was less than ten feet away from him. He knew he pushed the right button on the wife of the man he hated the most. Lorenzo had always alluded all and any charges Diaz tried to pin on him so Diaz took joy in knowing this was one problem Lorenzo wouldn't easily brush off.
"Fuck off!" Lorenzo growled at the grinning detective as Elena turned back to face forward. Elena went to pull her hands away from him but he tightened his grip before she could. "Get the luggage on the jet." He snapped at Gino and Tony then he looked down at her as she looked over at the jet. "Don't give him the satisfaction of knowing he pissed you off."
"Can we just get on the jet now?" she asked in a low shaky voice.
"Yeah." He said releasing one of her hands and held the other as they walked to the jet and boarded. Once they were boarded she roughly yanked her hand away from him and quickly walked over to one of the captain chairs. "Elena." He called out to her but she didn't answer him. "Fuck." Lorenzo snapped punching the wall next to him.
"Just give her time." Tony said patting Lorenzo's back. "Diaz wanted to piss both of you off... don't let him get you, he already got her." Lorenzo nodded his head as he watched Elena sit in the chair that faced away from them.
Elena felt like she had just been punched in the gut, she knew he has been with other woman but hearing it being confirmed by a total stranger still hurt. Without even realizing until that very moment the detective had mentioned it when they first spoke. Diaz had assumed she was one of his tramps until Lorenzo corrected him. Lorenzo had managed to keep anyone around her quiet about his infidelity until this moment, Diaz was the one person he didn't have control over. The more she had thought about it the more upset she was getting and Elena had no way of taking her mind off it. When the stewardess came out the curtain area Elena knew exactly what she could do.
"Excuse me do you think I can get a drink before takeoff?"
The lady stopped walking for a moment and barely glanced down at Elena when she spoke. "I have to tend to Mr. Moretti before I help any ladies that board this jet." She said as she started to walk away.
"Hey!" Tony growled at the stewardess before she could take another step. "When Mrs. Moretti asks you for something you get it for her instantly, do you got that?"
"Yes Mr. Romano, I'm sorry I had no idea that was Mrs. Moretti." The stewardess said as she quickly walked back to Elena. "What would you like me to get you, Mrs. Moretti?"
"I don't want anything." Elena glared at her as she turned to look out the window.
"But..." she began to say but Elena cut her off.
"Get the fuck away from me!" Elena snapped at her loudly.
At her outburst Lorenzo quickly looked over to where Elena was sitting. He knew better than to go over and say anything because he was the reason behind the hostility and knew it would just get worse. The one person that had always been able to calm her down was over there. Tony walked closer with a huge grin on his face, the stewardess was standing there looking flustered and not sure of what to do. Tony glanced over at Lorenzo as he sat down and Lorenzo nodded at him as he turned to talk to the other men that were boarding.
"Bring me two bourbons no ice." He said snapping his fingers for her to hurry as he looked over at Elena. "I'm not going to ask if you're ok because I know you'll just lie to me and say you're fine." He said and Elena looked over at him as the stewardess came back and handed him the two bourbons. "Have a drink with me." He said holding one of the glasses out to her. She took the glass and quickly swallowed the liquor in one gulp. "or two." He said handing her the other glass while taking the empty one back and this time she just held the glass.
"Thank you." Elena said with her signature forced smile.
"I knew it would help." He said as the stewardess came back towards them to get the other drinks she needed before takeoff. "Bring me another bourbon." He said handing her the empty glass and she nodded at him. "Do you want to talk?"
"No." Elena said shaking her head as she took a small sip from the glass.
"I do." Tony said taking the bourbon that was being handed to him. "Elena you knew there were others and we both know why." He said in a low voice while raising his eyebrow at her. "Do you want him to be faithful to you?"
"Everyone here knows this is just a marriage of convenience why should I even expect that."
"A piece of advice for you." Tony said as he stood up and walked over to squat down next to where she was sitting and lowered his voice even more as she looked down at him. "We also all know this marriage could be more than that, a lot more than that. If you want Lorenzo Moretti to have eyes only for you and no other give him a reason. You may not want to admit it right now but I can see you care about him." Tony stood back up and watched as Elena stared at her bourbon. "That feeling isn't one-sided, he cares about you a hell of a lot more than you think he does."
"If that were true he wouldn't have been with eight... no nine different women in the last six months."
"What does a man do when his wife doesn't even allow him to sleep in the same bed that she does?" Tony asked still looking down at her but she didn't move her eyes from the glass in her hands. "You and only you... can change that man."
Tony walked away and went back to the guys to give her time to think about what he said to her. "What did you say to Elena?" Lorenzo asked as Tony sat down next to him.
"I just gave her a little bit of advice and something to think about." Tony said as he sat back. "She'll be fine."
The whole flight Lorenzo would glance over at her as he spoke with his men and she never once looked his way. Once their flight landed and they were given the all clear Elena stood up from her seat for the first time since she sat in it, she smoothed down her skirt and adjust her strapless top. When she turned to face the exit she quickly noticed that there were six more men with them. Lorenzo nodded at the men to exit the plane and when Elena went to follow them out he stepped in front of her.
"Are you ok?" he asked and she just nodded her head hoping he would move with the answer she thought he wanted to hear but he didn't. "Don't lie to me Elena."
"What do you want me to say?"
"The truth."
"Everyone in this godforsaken world probably knows you screw every tramp that has crossed your path and I'm the pathetic wife that turned a blind eye to it." Elena said as she blinked back the tears that were threatening to fall. "You should have just let me stay home and continue to be the pathetic wife."
"You're not pathetic." Lorenzo said sternly and she rolled her eyes at him. "Do you even realize that this is the first time you have gone anywhere outside of Miami with me?" he said softly looking down at her. "I never even took you on a honeymoon."
"Lorenzo I just want to get to my room and sleep." Elena said shaking her head.
"Our room." He said turning and walking away.
"What do you mean?" she asked quickly following behind him.
When he stopped and turned to face her Elena had not expected it and she ran right into his chest almost falling back but his arm quickly snaked around her and held her steady against him. Elena's hands were flat against his chest, feeling the firmness of the body against her causing her heartrate to pick up speed. At that moment Elena hated that Lorenzo had that kind of effect on her, the last six months her body has betrayed her when he was close.
"The hotel is fully booked and there is no reason I shouldn't sleep in the same room or the same bed as my wife." Lorenzo said looking down at his wife and wanting so bad to taste her lips again. "No point in arguing with me about it either because nothing will change." Elena's words were momentarily stuck in her throat so she just nodded her understanding.
"Lorenzo, we gotta go." Tony said hating to break up the moment they were having, something has happened a lot more often than he liked but he knew Lorenzo had a meeting and they were already running late because of the police back in Miami.
Lorenzo pulled back from her and let his hand drop back down to his side. "We need to go." He said nodding towards the waiting SUVs.
"Ok." Elena said still feeling a little flustered.
Lorenzo placed his hand on the small of Elena's back and led her to the SUV. Once inside Elena sat there quietly watching as they drove through the island to his hotel. Lorenzo and Tony spoke in a low voice about business then they discussed the plans for a black and white party that was planned for that coming Saturday. After hearing that there were quite a few representatives from different mafia families from around the world in the hotel Elena knew she was brought here to play the diligent wife behind her mafia husband. The last time she had been around this many mafia families was the day she married him.
When the SUV came to a stop in front of the hotel Lorenzo climbed out the SUV and held his hand out to Elena. She softly laid her hand in his and he helped her exit the vehicle. After smoothing down her skirt she looked up at the grand hotel and instantly froze. Lorenzo and Tony both watched as she stood staring at the name that was elegantly written across it, bringing a smile to both their faces.
Lorenzo reached for her hand and wrapped it around his arm as he leaned in close to whisper in her ear. "Il suo Palazzo Reale." He read the Italian words that were written on the hotel to her.
Elena knew what it said and she felt confused by the meaning. "Her Royal Palace." She said translating his words in a low voice.
"The room all the way on the top could never be booked by anyone." He said as he began walking and she let him lead her towards the building. "I want it to always be available to you no matter what, this is your palace."
"I don't know what to say." Elena said still in shock as they approached the entrance.
"I didn't do this looking for anything from you." Lorenzo said as he stopped her just short of entering the building. "I did this because it was the least I could do after the last three years of bullshit you had to deal with. Neither of us had wanted this in the beginning and I can see you still don't but we both know it has to remain this way."
"I..." she began to say only to have him stop her.
"Elena don't." he said shaking his head. "Let's just go inside."
Lorenzo didn't give her a chance to respond as he pulled her through the door Gino was holding open for them. They walked through the massive lobby, her hand holding onto his arm. They were greeted by the staff with hellos and warm smiles. When they reached the counter the lady behind it already had the keycards to their room ready and waiting for them. After he was handed the stack of messages that were left for him they walked away to the elevator. Once inside the room and Lorenzo dismissed everyone to give them some privacy. Elena walked over to the sofa and sat down to remove her heels.
"I have some things I need to take care of." he spoke as he walked over to the bar. "You are welcomed to have a look around as long as Gino is with you but I do not want you leaving the hotel grounds. Gino stays in the room right across the hall, this entire floor will only be for us any guards that come with us."
"OK." Elena said as she sat back. "I think I might just stay in and get some rest."
"Alright, I don't know when I'll be back."
"I know." Elena said with another forced smile as she stood up to start unpacking her bags. "Would you like your bags unpacked?" she asked glancing over at him.
"I can have one of the maids take care of that." Lorenzo said as he sifted through the messages in his hand.
"I'm not incompetent Lorenzo." Elena snapped and he looked up from his messages at her. The look on his face held a mixture of shock and anger. "If you want your things taken out I can unpack them along with mine."
"You need to fix that damn attitude of yours." Lorenzo snapped at her.
"I'm just trying to tell you that I'm not like the other women you have around, I don't need to be catered to." Elena said as she walked to the floor to ceiling windows and looked out.
Lorenzo took a deep breath and slowly released it when he realized where her attitude was coming from. She was still upset about what the asshole detective said to them back in Miami. Lorenzo placed the messages down on the table and walked over to where she was standing. He stood directly behind her for a few moments before placing his hands on her hips and pulled her back against him. Elena squealed in shock as her hands went to both of his wrists. Leaning down Lorenzo placed his lips right next to her ear.
"You are far from incompetent and I know that." Lorenzo said in a low whisper and felt Elena's body shiver next to his. "I also know very well that there is no other woman that walks this earth that could ever compare to you." Lorenzo moved his lips to her neck and brushed them softly against her neck and smiled when her breath hitched. "You have and always will be the only woman I allow to talk to me the way you do."
"How many women have you had in this room?" Elena asked in a breathless voice bringing a smirk to his lips when he realized the effect he had on her.
"One." He said answering Elena and felt her tense against him. "Only you." He said clearing up what he meant. "I may be heartless and cold like everyone says I am but I would never flaunt shit in front of you and I would never disrespect you by bringing you into a room I had another woman in."
"So cheating isn't disrespectful?" she said getting her baring back together.
"That's different." Lorenzo said as he took a step back and dropped his hands from her waist.
"How is that different?" Elena asked as she turned to face him and he sucked in a deep breath. "What would you do if I had been the one sleeping around?"
"I would kill him." Lorenzo said bluntly and watched as shock and anger took over her soft features.
"But it's ok for you to do it?" she snapped at him. "It's ok for you to make me look like a fucking fool. What is so important about this opening that I was given no choice but to come... and don't feed me the damn mobster line either. You wanted me here and I'm here, now if you want this all to go smoothly don't lie to me."
"Are you making threats?" Lorenzo snapped at her.
"Take it however you want, I honestly don't care anymore." She snapped back at him. "Frankly I am tired of being kept in the dark, my damn life is tied to yours and I deserve more."
Lorenzo stood there staring at her void of all emotions. Though he would never admit it to anyone, he was proud of how she was standing up to him. "Your father is handing it all over to me, by the end of tonight I will have more power than all of the mafia families in the southern part of the States." He watched as she stood there in shock. "You wanted the truth... now you have it."
"What happens to me... my family?" she asked in a shock voice.
"Nothing changes Elena." Lorenzo said as he stepped closer to her and placed his hand softly on the side of her neck. "You're my wife and it's going to remain that way. Your father will hand his ranks over to me and he will step back when we return to Miami. Your family will remain under my protection for as long as you want them to be."
"You still want to remain married to me even though you are now getting everything you wanted and don't need me anymore?"
"I don't have everything I wanted." Lorenzo said shaking his head. "When I do get it you'll know and even then I'm not letting you go anywhere. Like I said nothing changes, you're my wife and you always will be." He said just as there was a knock on there door. "Get some rest, if I get done early I'll come back for you and we can go have a drink down at the bar."
Elena just nodded her head as he winked at her with a smile then walked away. She had never expected him to actually be honest with her and now that he was she didn't know what to think. Lorenzo no longer needed to be married to her after the night was through but he was clear that he wanted to stay married. This left her in uncharted waters with him and honestly didn't know how to feel about that.
When the door closed Elena was snapped from her thoughts and she looked over to it and realized she was now alone. After taking a few breaths to relax her overworked nerves Elena went about unpacking hers and Lorenzo's bags. Once she was done Elena decided to lay down for a little while, just as she was walking to the bed there was knock on her door. Thinking it was Gino checking on her Elena didn't bother to see who it was before opening it.
When she opened the door Elena stood there frozen staring at the last person she wanted to see. "Dante?!" she said in shock.
"We need to talk." Dante said as he glanced around the empty hall.
