"Back off Jessie, she is mine!"
Warren pushed Jessie away angrily.
"No! I will have you freaks know that I belong to no one." She let out a huff.
I rolled my eyes and got up off the ground, dusting myself off. I was so close to freedom...
I puffed my cheeks childishly and let out a huff of annoyance and utter defeat. I just want to get away from the freaking army and be left to my own will. I just want to no longer worry about being executed for being a girl or for being the thief of the century who stole those bloody royal jewels.
Speaking of royalty, I hope to the all mighty above that I was mistaken from Jessie's pound proclamation of receiving 'his majesty's help'. But when do things ever go how I want them to because right at that moment the unidentifiable armoured man from earlier graced us with his presence, now without his helmet on his head, sitting proudly on his horse alongside Commander Tyron, was the crown Prince Edward himself.
His brown eyes assessed the scene before him, lingering slightly longer on the girl in mild curiosity. Warren and Jessie took that moment to notice his arrival and went into an all crazy panic.
Both of them dropped to their knees and were frantically bowing while desperately jumbling up rushed apologies. The whole ordeal was highly comical and if it were any other person standing before us other than the Prince, I would have laughed.
The Prince's eyes drifted to me briefly not paying much attention but rather just to acknowledge my presence before turning back to the bowing idiots. Commander Tyron's eyes however remained on me a little longer before sending me a slight apologetic smile.
"Enough. Rise."
It was a stern yet slightly annoyed tone of voice from the Prince causing Warren and Jessie to drastically stop and jump to their feet. Prince Edward then dismounted his steed and walked towards the girl, frowning slightly.
I didn't know what she might attempt to do to him for she was the enemy after all and did attack me so I unconsciously gripped the hilt of my dagger that I now held in my hand. Even if the Prince did sentence me to death, he was still the crown Prince of the kingdom and I would be damned of something happened to him for that would probably give Lord Patrick a higher chance at the title of King.
She stood on guard, somewhat glaring at the Prince but I could sense slight fear radiating off of her. She was well aware if her unfortunate predicament, knowing full well that she was outnumbered even though Jessie and Warren both admitted their undying 'love' or rather should I say 'lust' for her. They would not betray the Prince for they were both fully loyal to their kingdom and at the end of the day, even though they are idiots, they both knew somewhere deep inside that she was still the enemy.
"What is your name?" He finally asked her.
She stared at him warily before finally replying. "Alice."
"Were you kidnapped by those barbarians?"
"No. Just because your filthy kingdom does not permit females in the army does not mean mine acts the same! I am a solider, a warrior." She spat out rudely to the Prince yet stood her ground proudly not backing down.
To much of all the spectators and Alice's surprise Prince Edward smiled at her softly.
"That is something I want to change in the near future. But enough of that, you are the last survivor remaining of this camp and are now our prisoner. Please don't cause a hassle to any of my soldiers." He turned around and got back on his horse.
"Tyron, I'm heading back. Sweep the area for any supplies and further information on the enemies tactics and plans." Prince Edward ordered before pointing at Jessie and Warren, "You and you are in charge of bringing the girl, don't let her escape. It is vital that she gets interrogated."
Jessie and Warren lit up like little children trying candy sticks for the first time.
"No. I refuse to be escorted by these perverts." Alice spoke against the Prince before he could leave then she proceeded to move a little closer to me, further away from the lovesick idiots who were shamelessly ogling her.
"You go with them too." He turned looking at me before cantering off totally ignoring her request. I suppose I don't blame him, he is the crown Prince and she is the enemy, why should he even listen to her in the first place. She was beneath him.
The Commander followed the Prince soon after, leaving us after informing us on the harsh consequences of letting her escape. Jessie then took that moment to get all touchy with her, saying that he was checking for any weapons but actually using that as an excuse to feel her up which Warren took wind of in no time and prevented him from even trying which resulted in a full on argument between time two of them.
I just rolled my eyes for what felt like the hundredth time at then. Alice took that moment to try run. Surprisingly the idiots caught on and stopped her before she could with Jessie holding a sword to her neck and Warren quickly tying her hands together. I walked up to her patted her down for any hidden weapons much to Jessie and Warren's dismay. She did unsurprisingly carry quite a number of small knives.
The hike back to the base camp was rather long while Jessie and Warren argued with each other and Warren occasionally slipping a glare at me obviously showing his anger and annoyance towards the kiss that Alice and I accidentally shared earlier.
"They are going to kill me aren't they?" Alice spoke softly directed to me only. I knew she was not just referring to the two idiots in front of us.
"You and me both." I whispered softly under my breath but I knew she heard me when she slightly smiled at me.
"Sorry for the kiss by the way, that fat pervert came out of no where and crashed into me." She apologized feeling awkward.
"Let's just forget that every happened and don't worry I know it was an accident."
Alice smiled again.
"You know I still hate you. I was nearly free again." I mumbled grumpily.
Her smile now turned into a smirk.
"I know, that is why I stopped you because I knew you were running. I didn't want you to escape. It is a pity my side lost though but I am glad the man I was under is gone now, in fact I'm glad all those men on my side in that camp are dead."
I was rather confused and frowned slightly. I did not ask her why she said that because I had the feeling that she did not want to talk about it anytime soon.
When we finally arrived at the main camp after an hour walk, to say that I had a headache would be an understatement. Jessie and Warren did not stop arguing the whole way and I think Alice was in the same boat as me. It was the worst and longest journey of my life and I would not wish that pain and suffering on anyone.
Alice was taken away from us somewhere with a few other soldiers and I was left to help set up tents and fires. By the time I was done, it was getting late, most of the camp was asleep already aside from the few soldiers on patrol. I was exhausted and made my way to my sleeping area.
I was not sure if I still had to sleep near Commander Tyron's tent like he had ordered me to but I couldn't even if I wanted to for I had no idea which tent he was staying in.
On my way I passed a medical tent, my gaze unconsciously drifting in and I was slightly shocked to see Greg lying on one of the beds with his one side bandaged up. He must have been apart of the fighting earlier. I always thought that he looked and perhaps was invincible especially since Jessie and Warren were afraid of him. I shrugged it off and continued walking.
Just before I reached the area where I had intended to sleep, a thought struck me. On my way into camp, we had passed a river with a few alluring looking rock pools.
I was already filthy from today's actions and had not gotten the chance to clean up for a while considering all that has happened. I could used it as an excuse to get passed the patrols then make my escape across the river by swimming across the rock pools however I had to be careful, there is a war going on after all and there could be enemies lurking at any point ready to kill.
It was risky but it was worth a try. Unfortunately the patrols refused to let me pass believing that I might be an enemy spy trying to head back to relay any valuable information that I had collected.
I was annoyed but managed to slip through one of their blind spots but the skin of my teeth. It was a small opening and I was a skilled thief who was well versed in being stealthy so I managed to use that to my advantage.
Unfortunately at the previous training camp I just came from, patrols were a lot tighter with the newbies taking their jobs way more seriously in fear of Goneril or trying to get on his good side for extra rations of food. Here the patrols were good and all but the soldiers weren't as motivated as much in keeping people in as they were in keeping a look out for enemy troops. I know they did stop me from going out but they weren't as suspicious or stern as my previous camp's patrols would have been.
When I finally made it to the rock pools, I started to strip not wanting my clothes to get wet. I climbed into the water which was surprisingly warm after hiding my armour under a bush next to a tree for I did not want to take it with since it would be unnecessary weight which would just slow me down .
My belongings were held above my head as I swam across to the embankment on the other side. I threw them ahead of me onto the dry land when I neared it and was about to get out myself when I heard a slight cough from someone nearby.
I froze.
