"I can't believe you're meeting her family. You two are honestly so f-cking cute," Mia told me as she did my makeup. I was perfectly able to do my makeup myself, but she insisted since she felt me meeting Andy's family was such a big deal. To me, it really wasn't intimidating or some huge thing. I was just going to Andy's sister's birthday party and of course all of Andy's family and friends were going to be there. It's not like I was formally being introduced to her parents, even if I was I wouldn't be freaked out about that either.
I'm sure Andy's parents were good people. She talked about them as if they were and they seemed to have raised her pretty well, despite her gang affiliation. She had manners, she was sweet, passionate and so damn gorgeous. I didn't expect any less from her family. "It's just a birthday party. Chill. You can come too if you want. I doubt she'll care."
"I'm not going. This is about Andy and you. You're really going to see if you're truly into her once you meet her family! And she's going to see if she's into you from how you act with them! You guys are going to really be able to test if you guys could ever be in a relationship. I wouldn't want to be a third wheel." Mia finished the last of my mascara and stepped back to look at me. A huge smile spread across her face. I rolled my eyes playfully as I looked in the mirror, not bad.
Mia didn't apply much makeup, just enough for me to not look too informal. Andy pleaded that the party was going to be casual and nearly anything would be okay, but I still wanted to look good. Not only for her, but her family. If we ever did date, I had to make sure my first impression on her family was good. But honestly, I wasn't stressing about meeting them. I just wanted to look good. "How can you look so beautiful so easily, Delaney? It's just not fair!"
I stood up and straightened out my knee length, royal blue dress. It was like a Sunday dress. One I would wear when I ever so rarely visited my parents' church. Every time I walked in that church, I thought all the men were going to have a heart attack. Some stared at me too long and even had the nerve to grip at their pants. My father almost got in a fight with one once, but I guess God saved that guy's life before my dad could get him. "Chill, Mia. You know you were the one all the boys wanted in high school."
"Delaney, are you kidding me? One of my boyfriends only dated me to get close to you. Remember Logan?" I laughed and shrugged my shoulders.
"He wasn't even cute, girl. He was an asshole. I don't know why you dated him. He wish he could get with me." Mia shook her head as she looked down at her phone. A small smile came on her lips before she bit her bottom lip to hide it. Instantly, I began grinning. "Oooo, someone has a new boy toy!"
"No, I don't," she protested defensively as she clasped her phone to her chest.
"Who is it, mija?"
"No one," Mia dragged out. I frowned and crossed my arms. "Don't give me that frown, you cute little b-tch."
Whimpering, I began walking out of the room. Mia quickly ran up and hugged me from behind. "Okay, I'll tell you, best friend!"
I laughed and turned around to face her eagerly. Mia was obviously beautiful and she had guys falling over her 24/7, but her ex-boyfriend treated her like shit. She hasn't really tried for anything serious in the last year so it was good to see her interested in someone. "Who is it," I urged.
Mia bit her lip, and looked down. "Carlos."
"Carlos Mendez?"
"I know you're going to get mad, Delaney but trust me. He's changed in the past year. He's a new man and-"
"Mia, are you f-cking stupid?! He used to beat you! He used to cheat on you! He tried to rape your little sister. Did you forget that or are you really that dumb?" It got dead quiet between the two of us. My phone was ringing on my dresser and I knew it was Andy but I couldn't be bothered to answer it at the moment. No way was I going to sit here and allow Mia to take Carlos back.
"I hate it but I love him. Mariela forgave him."
"Mariela is sixteen. She doesn't know any better. She's lucky I walked in before he could hurt her."
"I knew I shouldn't have told you," Mia laughed softly as a few tears fell down her cheeks. "Maybe I am dumb, but you can't say if Eric came knocking on the door right now that you wouldn't take him back."
A hard knock came on the door and my heart dropped. It was probably Andy. "That's different. Eric cheated. He wasn't abusive. He just f-cked up once and I left him for that. If he came running back then you know I wouldn't give him another chance. Not after all the shit I went through." The knock got louder.
"Just go. Don't keep Andy waiting." My phone began ringing again, and I grabbed it just to ignore Andy's call. "Delaney, I'll be okay. Don't be stupid. Just go have fun. I'll be careful, okay? I'm taking things slow with him."
"Okay. I love you. Don't do anything dumb."
"Okay." I gave Mia a hug before running towards the door.
When I yanked it open, Andy was about to walk away. She quickly turned around and faced me, "Are you okay?" I must've still looked upset from Mia and I's argument. Andy stepped closer to me and I smiled.
"I'm okay." I kissed her lips and she seemed surprised but she kissed me too.
"Why do you always make me look like a bum, huh, darling?" Andy really was dressed casual. Ripped jeans and a muscle tee and here I was in my Sunday dress. "You really look stunning." She put her hands on my hips and pulled me closer to her. I took in her scent and instantly felt at ease. Right now, I had to put the Mia drama on the back burner and enjoy Andy's company.
"You look gorgeous with your little muscles out," I joked as I kissed her bicep.
She rolled her eyes at me and stepped back to flex her muscles. "I'm swole."
"The only thing swole on you is your big ass head."
"Now, that's mean," Andy told me as she laughed. "I'm going to tell my mom you were mean to me then she's really going to hate you."
"She's going to love me, fool! Now, let's go! I've kept you waiting for far too long."
Today, Andy was driving a black Maserati sedan. It was as if she had a new car every time I saw her. We didn't get a couple miles down the road before she took my hand in hers. Her other hand remained on the steering wheel as she brought my hand up to her lips. "You're not nervous, are you?"
"Why would I be?"
"You're meeting my family."
"I know and they're going to love me. They're going to love me so much that they're going to want to adopt me."
"Whatever. We'll see."
We arrived to the party a little early. Few cars were on the stone driveway, but all the lights were on in the grand home of Andy's parents. I grew up pretty wealthy and had been in some nice homes, but I'm afraid I've only seen a house like theirs on television shows and in magazines. The garage itself probably had more square feet than an average family's home. The house was traditional with its brick and stone exterior but somehow still seemed modernized. Andy walked in without a knock and I followed in behind her. It seemed like as soon as I stepped in, I felt a homey vibe as if I was home myself.
I heard laughs from the kitchen and an intoxicating smell came from it as well. My stomach began growling and I licked my lips. I'm not sure what was being prepared but it had to be good from the smell of it. The lights were dim as we walked through the spacious family room and towards the enthralling kitchen. When we walked in, my mouth probably dropped to the floor. When I say that there was enough food to feed an army, I literally meant it. Food was laid out everywhere in platters. Ranging from basic Italian food to hotdogs. Any picky eater could find something to eat.
When we walked in, the already loud room grew louder. I was surprised to only see a total of three people. There was a younger girl who instantly ran up to Andy and jumped on her. Across the way, an older couple was standing. The man had his arm around his wife's shoulder as she stood there comfortably under his wing. They were hip to be older. The way they dressed resembled people my age. They were a good looking couple and I knew they were Andy's parents. She looked just like them, especially her father.
When the girl ran over to Andy, Andy picked her up and hugged her tightly. "Happy birthday, princess." Andy let go of the glowing, precious girl and reached into her back pocket. She handed her a small, golden box.
"For me," she asked as she gleefully took it.
"Open it, princess," Andy urged. I could tell she was eager to see the look on her sister's face. It was adorable how close they were. The way Andy called her "princess" was too much for me to handle.
The box was popped open and a necklace was pulled from it. It was a beautiful, shining white gold necklace with the word 'Princess' embedded with diamonds as a pendant. Her sister began jumping up and down with excitement and I couldn't help but smile. It was a beautiful moment. That necklace had to cost Andy's thousands of dollars and from the look of it, it looked as if she had it custom made. Andy laughed as her sister freaked out. She made her calm down so she could put the necklace on her. Once the necklace was placed, it matched perfectly with her sister's burgundy, spaghetti strapped lace dress.
"Thank you so much, Andy. You're the best sister ever." Andy got one more hug from her overjoyed sister.
"It's no problem. You deserve it. You're eighteen and I know you're growing up but you'll forever be my baby sister." Andy playfully pushed her sister's forehead and her sister punched her shoulder in response.
"Well, kiddo, are you going to introduce us to your friend or not." My eyes focused over to her father who had an amused look on his face as he looked from me to Andy. He still had his arm around his wife and she even seemed amused for some reason.
Andy cleared her throat and walked back over to me. Her hand met the small of my back and I felt her thumb caress it gently. I knew I claimed I wasn't nervous to meet her parents recently, but maybe this was a big deal. What if Mia was right? What if this really was a true test if Andy and I could ever be together? I ignored my negative thoughts and decided to give a friendly smile to her parents. "This is my friend, Delaney. Delaney, this is my little sister, Giana. And those are my parents."
Almost instantly, her mother walked over to me and put her hands on my shoulders. "Delaney, is it? That's such a beautiful name for such a gorgeous girl. God, is she pretty. Where did you get her from, Andy? Look at that smile of hers. She's a winner. How are you, sweetheart? Can I get you anything? Are you hungry? Thirsty? Jesus Christ. You're such a pretty girl. Iggy, isn't she pretty?" Her mother was speaking a mile a minute. It was hard to keep up and hard to tell whether I should be answering all of her questions. Either way, she was flattering. She had a stereotypical Italian New York accent, which was almost addicting. I thought Andy's dialect was Northern and Italian as f-ck, but her mother really out beat her and so did her father. Not only did he really look like the Italian gangsters you saw in the movies, but he sounded like them too.
While her mother greeted me, Andy received a hug from her father. "Leave the poor girl alone, Donna. You're going to scare her away," he said as he winked at me with quite a charming smile. The wink wasn't meant in a flirty way at all but instead a polite gesture. I laughed at the both of them.
"It's fine. It's really great to meet all of you. Andy talks about you guys a lot," I told them.
"You have some meat on your bones. Nice bazoknas." I don't know what was funnier Andy's face being as red as a tomato or her mother complimenting my boobs. "Are those real?"
"Yes, ma'am. All natural," I said through giggles. Her mother was something else and I already loved her.
"Jesus, Ma! Stop embarrassing me," Andy whined as her father chuckled at everything that was going on. Him and Giana seemed to be enjoying watching Andy get worked up about everything that came out of her mother's mouth.
"Why!? I'm not embarrassing you! I'm just saying that she's a keeper! It's so hard to find a natural girl nowadays. Andy, you would know. She brought a girl here and her tits sat up higher than the Eiffel Tower. Not to mention all that damn make-up she had on her face. You're honestly the most decent and flawless one I've met, Delaney."
"Ma, please," Andy continued to complain.
"I'm just complimenting your girlfriend, Andrea!"
I ended up laughing aloud. I had never found out Andy's full name until now. I thought it was just Andy. Andrea. I liked that. "She's not my girlfriend, Ma."
"Well, she should be. Right, Iggy?"
"The girl is gorgeous. Good manners from what I see. Seems as if she likes you just as much as you like her. Maybe she should be your girlfriend," her father confirmed. Now I was the one who was blushing. Her parents have been in the same room as me for only fifteen minutes and they already thought I was the one for their daughter. That was a true compliment.
"If you date her, make sure she eats! Look how skinny she is! Are you hungry, Andrea," her mother asked as she walked over to Andy. She pulled at Andy's cheeks before grabbing her forearms. "What a skinny girl. Why don't you eat, Andrea? You never eat. I tell you to eat and you don't do it. Why don't you ever eat? Are you hungry?" I was cracking up. Andy's mother seemed to never stop talking and she had the habit of talking in circles.
"No, Ma," Andy muttered.
"Well, Delaney. Welcome to the family," her sister suddenly spoke as she looked up from her phone that she was rapidly texting on. "We're not normal as you can see. Dad calls Andy "son." She calls me "princess." And mom has the urge to make everyone eat every 30 seconds. Anyways, I'm Giana." She reached her hand out towards me.
I shook it. "Happy birthday, Giana. Don't worry. I'm not used to normal."
"Good, darling, because if you date this kid you're going to get the complete opposite. By the way, you can call me Iggy, most people call me that," her father chimed in.
"Oh, how rude of me! I didn't even introduce myself. I'm Donna, honey. If you ever need some advice or if Andy makes you upset, just know you have me. She's not too old for a spanking." Andy's mom gave her a warning glare. "She thinks because she's gang affiliated and following her father's footsteps that I won't spank her, but I will. So, if she makes you upset just give me a call and I'll get my belt. Andy, make sure she gets our numbers."
"Okay, Ma," Andy ended up mumbling. Her family was entertaining and I was happy that they liked me. The night had just begun and I already felt comfortable around them.
