Today was the big day. The day that my whole life would change. I was officially invested into the De Palma Family. My name was sure to be as big as my fathers in a few years. Santa Monica would basically be in the palm of my hands. I was going to have more power than a mayor and anybody in the city council. Santa Monica was my f-cking city. It was my job to protect my people, control the illegal activities that ranged from drug dealing to prostitution. All of that was in my f-cking hands. It was surreal and nerve wrecking. I could ruin this whole damn city if I wanted to. The cops weren't going do a damn thing. We paid them off fruitfully for leaving us alone and focusing on gangs with less power.
Here I was standing in front of thousands of people in the main clubhouse of the city. Members of the Family were spread all outside of the doors and in the yard cheering for me. I had never felt so f-cking powerful and Rafael hadn't even handed over the title to me yet. My stomach turned uneasily and I looked to my right to see Delaney. She had been acting a little weird today, but she gave me a reassuring smile. Maybe she was nervous too. I looked at Lin and Leo on my left, and saw Lin and Leo clapping and cheering along with everyone else.
In front of me was Rafael. We were on top of the stage in the bar area of the clubhouse. He had a microphone in front of him and he was waiting for everyone to stop cheering so he could give up the title. After a good five minutes of clapping, he finally got the crowd to calm down by clearing his throat.
"I stand up here on this stage with an extraordinary friend, leader and sometimes asshole." The crowd laughed and began cheering again. I laughed and Rafael looked back at me to shoot me a playful wink. "Seriously though, Andy is the perfect person for this job. She's the perfect person for any job in the Family. She's respectful, intelligent, charming and she plain out gets sh-t done. I don't know where I would be without her or where Santa Monica would be without her. She was still somehow pulling strings when Jimmy was here, but now she's officially going to be head honcho. I'm not going to give a long speech. I'm not even going to ask for a vote. We all know who deserves to be head honcho. So, everyone give it up for your new leader, Andy De Palma."
Once again, the crowd roared and I honestly couldn't believe it was for me. Rafael stepped away from the mic and motioned for me to come up to accept the title. Everything felt like a dream. This was how my father felt when he ran the Family but only a hundred times more flattered and powerful. He ran the whole Family and I only got a city but I was still grateful.
"I accept the position as head honcho with a humbled and grateful heart. We're more than a bunch of gangsters, we're a Family. My father built this gang with money on his mind but love in his heart. He wanted a gang different than the others during his time. He wanted unity. He brought all the Italians that beefed against each other together and recruited other nationalities, ethnicites and races into the Family as well. We're a melting pot. I look around this room and I see a rainbow of f-cking colors and loyal people. I won't be anything like Jimmy. I'm not going to change. I may have a new title but I'm still the same old Andy. I'm here for a drink, a smoke or a talk. I'll always be visible and unlike Jimmy, I want to consult you guys before making big decisions. A new era of the Santa Monica De Palma Family is starting. I hope you guys are ready and excited because I sure as hell am."
The applause got louder as I stepped away from the mic. There was nothing but love in the room and I couldn't spot an upset person in sight. Unlike Jimmy, everyone seemed to love me which was good. Hopefully, things could stay that way.
Later that night, my friends, Delaney and I had a small celebration at my place. Dinner was provided by my mother who congratulated me before leaving me to enjoy my night. We would have time actually celebrate together soon. Becoming a new position such as head honcho or a Don was huge in the Family. A big party was being planned for next weekend and every head honcho in California was supposed to be there and even the Don of California. My family was sure to show up and a bunch of old faces. It was going to be huge and it was going to be a good time to network.
"That speech you said, it was really good. Did you practice it in the mirror," Leo asked in a joking manner. We were sitting at the table like a small family. Everyone was chowing down except for Delaney. She was picking at her food which was weird. She loved eating especially my mom's cooking.
"No, it was actually on the spot. I just said how I felt and thankfully it didn't come out stupid. I really didn't expect everyone to be so accepting," I admitted. I was still in shock that I was running Santa Monica. Everything felt the same but very different at the same time. It was weird but in a good way. "Plus, I think Rafael's introduction was the best. I swooned when he called me 'charming.'" The whole table laughed except for Delaney who was staring at her plate.
I placed my hand on her back and rubbed it soothingly to bring her back into the conversation. "Are you okay," I whispered to her.
She looked from her untouched food and up to me. "No. Can we talk?"
I crumpled my eyebrows together but nodded my head. "Yeah, of course."
Delaney and I went upstairs to my room. The walk there seemed long as hell. What was bothering her? Did she have second thoughts about our relationship? Was it because of my new title? When we got into the room, Delaney sat on the bed as I closed the door behind us. "What's going on, darlin'," I asked her calmly as I sat down beside her. I was trying to seem chill, but I really wanted to know what was going on.
"So, something really weird happened last night."
I was guilty of laughing a little bit. She was talking really slow as if she was trying to gather her words, but something told it was something that wasn't a big deal. If it was a big deal, she would've been way more raw and quick to the point. She wasn't the type to beat around the bush. "Did you get abducted by aliens or?"
She rolled her eyes at me and stood up from the bed. "This isn't funny, Andy. Last night, I made out with someone."
Okay, so maybe this was something really serious. I had obviously read between the lines wrong. This definitely wasn't a joking matter. "What the f-ck do you mean? You said you were having a sleepover with your friends. So, what happened? Did you guys go out or-?"
"No, it's nothing like that. I promise. It was an honest mistake and I really don't want you to get upset but I can tell you already are. I really can't blame you. I'd be pissed if I found out you kissed someone else too. Just hear me out, okay?" Delaney took a deep breath and looked me in the eyes. I was sitting on the edge of the bed trying to figure out how she ended up making out with someone if she spent the whole night with her friends.
"Okay, so are you ready? You have to let me finish this with no interruptions."
"I'm ready just don't lie to me. Be straight up about it. What the hell happened last night and with who?"
"So, last night, we were playing truth or dare. Some things got weird, but my friends asked me what sex with you was like. I had to tell the truth, so I told them that you were good or whatever. But I guess, I talked so well about you that Mia got curious. When the girls went to sleep, she asked me what it was like to be with a girl. She wanted to know what it was like but she didn't want to just do it with a random person. We talked normally for a little bit and then she randomly kissed me and we made out until I realized what we were doing. And it ended with her saying she was sorry, but it was just a huge f-cking mistake. And I'm sorry, I should've pushed her off as soon as she kissed me but it was just-I don't know. My mind went blank. It was like 4 AM and-"
"Are you done making up f-cking excuses? Did you really think I would be okay with this?"
"I know I f-cked up and I didn't expect-"
"Because, darlin', I'm totally not upset."
"Wait, what?"
I laughed at Delaney and stood up so I could stand in front of her. "She's curious and she's your best friend. You two kissed. It was innocent. It was nothing. Why would I be mad about that? You don't have to be sorry at all. Honestly, it's really f-cking hot and if she wants to experience with a girl, I think you would be the best candidate for her to try things with." Delaney looked at me as if I had lost my f-cking mind. I put my hands on her shoulders. "I support you in this beautiful feat. I'm so here for you."
Delaney laughed and pushed me away from her. "You're annoying. Are you for real?"
"Darlin', why would I be joking? You should f-ck her. Just give me the details afterwards. You know, maybe I can orchestrate. I could be in the same room and be the referee while you two go at it."
"You're giving me permission to f-ck someone else, do you understand that? I would never give you that same permission. Ever. So, you better rethink your offer because I'm not as generous."
"You're not f-cking just anybody. You're going to f-ck Mia, your best f-cking friend. Do you know how hot that's going to be? And most likely feelings won't get involved, it's perfect."
"That's like me giving you permission to f-ck Leo."
I shivered at the thought. "Leo would turn me out, not my kind of thing." Delaney laughed harder and stepped back from me.
"You're being way tpo weird about this. Are you serious or are you kind of mad but you're hiding it by being accepting?"
"I'm not angry, not one bit. I'm excited. She's curious and I want you to f-ck her but only if you want to. I think it would be great. It'd be even greater if I could witness it but I'm cool with just nutting off the details afterwards."
"You're literally nasty."
"So, are you going to do it?"
"I don't know. I have to think about it."
"If she falls for you afterwards then I'm totally cool with us being a throuple. We can just share you. How hot would that be?" Maybe I was too cool about this, but I really wasn't bothered. I was actually very turned on. Just thinking about the two of them having sex after knowing each other for years and never really thinking about it before. They probably saw each other naked all the time, but never thought about f-cking each other until now. I sounded like a pervert but this opportunity was just to big too pass up.
"We haven't even had sex in weeks and you want me to f-ck someone else."
"Well, of course, I want to show you all the things you should do to her before you guys f-ck so we'll definitely do something before you get with her."
"This is so f-cking crazy, Andy."
"It's the modern age. There's nothing wrong with being a little open."
Delaney crossed her arms and raised an eyebrow at me. "Really? Because what if I really wanted to f-ck a guy and he really wanted to f-ck me. Would you still give me permission to do it as long as you're present or I give you the details?"
"F-ck no."
"See! It's a double standard. You wouldn't be up for it if it wasn't a feminine woman."
"You're totally right. You know I like being dominant. I can't have anyone stealing my shine, darlin'," I admitted.
She giggled and grabbed my hands. "Are you really okay with me doing this?"
"I'm 100% okay with this. There's nothing that could go wrong. As long as you truly want to do it then I'm fine with it."
"Fine, I'll talk to Mia about it." I tried to show no emotion when she said that, but the corners up my lips slowly quivered up to a huge grin. "Stop being a creep!"
"I'm sexually deprived, darlin'! What do you expect?"
Delaney pulled me close to her and kissed my lips softly. "My poor baby. I was thinking about you last night and how much I missed your touch."
I smirked as I put my hands on her hips. "I miss your-" A knock on the door interrupted my sentence. I rolled my eyes before screaming towards it. "What?!"
"Man, we got a problem. One of our boys just got killed," Rafael yelled back.
Delaney stepped back from me. "Seems like a job for the head honcho."
