" Laura, you are going to eat it I am going to make you eat," Jenny says. She is in my apartment three weeks after Joey left. I look at the grilled cheese then back at her. "I can't eat until afternoon. " I say She looks at me an ask," What do you mean?" " If I eat anytime before noon it just makes me nauseous trust me I am starving," I say. I am back in my apartment. I moved out of The House the week after Joey left. Lucas fought with me the whole time, saying that I needed help until the wound in my leg healed. I eventually told him that I couldn't be there. It reminded me of Joey too much. His room smelled of him. I slept in a shirt of his every night. I just wanted to feel like he was there. Jenny looks at me curiously then picks up the grilled cheese, wrapping it up. " I need to make a phone call," she says. She walks out my apartment door. I look around. The walls are painted a dull grey. I haven't stepped foot in the kitchen. I just eat out. I lay down on the couch, feeling tired. I have only been up for about five hours. I pull the throw blanket over me. I hear the door open then shut," Laura, sweetheart, I made you a doctors appointment." Jenny says. I look at her," Cancel, no insurance." I mumble She smiles," It's already taken care of, sweetheart. Now rest, your appointment is at three." I sigh," I have work." " Already called Lucas he said to come in after the appointment." I close my eyes an drift off to sleep. I look at the doctor's office. Jenny is smiling next to me. I slowly get out of her car. She refused to let me take the bus. I walk into the office an check-in. I sit on a couch in the waiting room. There is one other person there, besides Jenny. It is an elderly man. He was reading a book. A nurse calls me to the back an checks my weight an height. She asks me to give a urine sample. I walk back to the waiting room when I am done. Jenny is sitting in the same spot reading a magazine. I sit down an cross my legs. Jenny has come by my house every day. Lucas has been picking me up for work a dropping me off. He makes sure I lock my apartment door every night. The nurse calls me back into the examing room. She sits me down an takes all my vitals. She leaves a few minutes later the doctor walks in. He is maybe in his mid-forties. His black hair has grey coming in. " Hello, I'm Doctor Birl, I have your charts let me just ask why are you here?" He asks smiley I give a quick smile," You can call me Laura. My, um, friends mother made the appointment after I told her I can't eat before noon or I get nauseous." I say. He looks at his folder. He smiles," Well, I don't think we can do anything about that right now, Laura." He says. I look at him confused," Why?" He smiles," You seem to be pregnant." I feel my whole body go numb. I couldn't be. " Doctor Birl, there must be a mistake." He looks at me seriously," Are you sexually active?" " Three weeks ago. You can't be pregnant that quick." I state " Did you use protection?" He asks I can only remember putting on a condom once." I guess there is a possibility." I mumble. He smiles," I would make an appointment with your gynecologist soon." I nod my head an stand up. I walk out of the room an out the office. Jenny is right behind me. " Can I go see Jerry?" I whisper when we get in the car. Jenny nods an drives me to the home. I quickly sign in a walk to his room. He smiles when he sees me. " Laura, long time no see.". At his words, I burst into tears. He stands up on shaky legs an walks over to me, wrapping his arms around me. I cry into his chest for what seemed like hours. I pull back from his chest he lets me go, it had only been twenty minutes. " What has git you so upset?" He asks looking at me. I wipe my eyes an blow my nose with an offered tissue," I seem to have got pregnant." I say He smiles," That is nothing to cry about, Sweetheart." I look at him," Yes it is. It was by a jackass who left." Jerry smiles fall," Dammit, it's Joey's isn't?"I nod my head," I should have known something was up that night he came in here. He was all pissed off but came to say goodbye. He left after you told him? I raised that boy better." I smile at his rant an help him get back into bed," No, he doesn't know. I just found out today. " I say. Jerry looks exhausted. I am glad he recognized me today. He smiles at me," I am glad my grandbaby will have a part of you." He says as he drifts off the sleep. I turn around an see Jenny a Lucas. Lucas smiles at me," Come on, Sweetcheeks, time to work." Jenny elbows him in the ribs an I smile. I walk with Lucas to his truck. We ride in silents to the shop. It looks busy. I get out an go to my spot behind the counter. Lucas walks to his office an back out with a stool. He sets it behind me. I sit down an start to answer calls to book appointments an cancel some. When Lucas closes the shop for the night I am exhausted. He calls everybody over to the counter. He pours four shots an passes one to everyone but me. He holds up his shot," A shot to Laura. Who is now carrying the next Biker Baby." Everyone cheers an throws back their shot. They each walk up an hug me. Lucas walks me to the heated truck an smiles at me," Joey may have left, but he left you a piece of him. You are no longer alone in this world. You have your baby an now you have us." I smile an lean my head on the back of the seat. " Thank you, Lucas."
