Angel's POV;
Dinner was set late. More late than usual. The clock had already chimed 10 and we started to arrive to the dinner hall in pairs.
All except Xavier were here, Christina in the seat besides the end of the table with Mia in the seat next and me in front. Zayn and Ryan were busy setting the table with the food Christina and I had prepared around 6. These days, food was made earlier than it was ever eaten.
Mia was too bed ridden since the start of her pregnancy to help cook, symptoms such as sudden dizziness, fatigue and nonstop waves of nauseous wearing her down at any given point of the day. Dr.O'Brien assured it was nothing to stress about, that she'd be okay and that it would take her body longer to adjust to the child developing in her womb.
The boys would be spend relentless hours at work in their office, coming home at random hours -sometime never, sleeping in their office and coming home the day after. At first I was furious with Ryan. We fought, but in the end after seeing the stream of tears from my eyes he promised he wouldn't do such a thing again.
Ryan was never pushy or strict about anything unlike his two brothers, he was just here for it all. When I'd wake up heaving my insides into the bowl of the toilet as early as 4 in the morning, he'd be here in the washroom holding my hair away and soothing my back, kissing my disgustingly tasting lips which I had thrown up with before putting me to bed again.
Though Christina was the most pregnant looking from us three, her baby bump the size of a underdeveloped watermelon, we looked after her the most. Xavier was usually never around long, always in some sort of meeting or away in some other Pack to discussing the growing crisis of dead burnt Pack members. The number of dead exceeding more than the number of missing.
Dinner was awfully silence like always but something was off today. Everyone felt it. As if we were all anxious, restless about something ominous coming our way yet we never said anything with each other. Ryan and Zayn especially.
Those two were as if they both had a war waging inside them. They were always fidgeting even in their seats, meeting each other's eye with dangerous glances. Something in my gut told me they were withdrawing important information about this strange tension we were all experiencing as of the moment.
"My love," Xavier had around the threshold to the living room, tie undone, coat hung behind him with his finger, wearing a warily smile. He bent down to peck her cheek, his eyes brightening from seeing the glow of affection in her eyes in his direction as he took his seat the end of the table. Zayn and Ryan had also sat down.
We had just picked the silverware when the door bell went off with sudden urgency. Everyone tensed, looking at one another. This was our farmhouse on the edge of the borders of the SilverRose's and RedBlood's Packs. Everyone in the Pack knew to not come here unless it was of grave urgency. Although, only the boys' Betas knew of us being here.
"Stay here." Xavier tightened his hand around Christina's worried fist before getting up. Soon Zayn and Ryan followed, Mia, Christina and I left seated on the table. Only a moment had passed when Christina rose, ready to go down the hall the boys went. "Christina!"
"Oh hush child! Just because Xavier was the sperm donor doesnt make him the boss of me!"
Shaking our head, me and Mia followed. I kept a hand locked with her in cause her dizziness decided to make an reappearance. Hand in hand we waddle our way to the front. "Nora!"
"Nora!" I exclaim, sweeping forward from Mia when Ryan caught me by the wrist. He held a firm grip from letting me move forward. Nora was unconsciously mumbling, sweat glistening her head and wetting her long hair back in Damon's Beta's arms. She appeared in pain, her lips morphed into a frown, groaning and tossing restlessly, gasping for every breathe she drew.
Zayn scooped her body out of his arm's, Nora clutching hopelessly on her brother's shirt while he was carrying her in through the threshold. Ryan watched helplessly from the side, heaving her scent with great sadness when they passed. I wrap my fingers with his, letting him pull me close into his embrace.
Xavier stood as a marble statue, pale as Nora's burning ash scent was overwhelming the atmosphere.
"You need to notify Damon as soon as you can," Kaden spoke frantically. "He'll want to know of her condition. Hell he deserves to know, he's her Mate. You know he can help her."
Can he really? He has no positive track record from what everyone knew and they do call him the heartless Alpha for a reason. Nora has never been very good in lying. Neither has Nora been successful in hiding the sorrow in her tone whenever she'd call. Just this morning she was alright despite the constant heaviness in her voice, speaking and talking and not gasping for air like every breathe was her last.
"You don't need to be here anymore. Thank you for everything you've done and you may be dismissed. We'll handle Nora from here, don't worry about her and there's definitely no need in informing Damon. She'll be fine by tomorrow morning."
"Firstly, no one dismisses me -Alpha brother or not. I do what I feel, and right now I dont feel like leaving so you're stuck with me pretty boy. Second, Damon will be told of Nora and her state, so don't order me otherwise I can't. Last but not least, you know just as me she will be fine by tomorrow but tomorrow night she'll be forced to endure it all again, and again, and again until Damon puts a stop to it." Kaden said coldly.
"We'll think of something for tomorrow," Xavier snarled at him.
"She's in freaking heat Xavier if you haven't smelled with that fat nose of yours. This isn't a flu that will go away in a few hours! She's hurting," Christina roared from besides him.
"I said we'll think of something! He'll just hurt her more like every other time he has! Be rational Christina," He pulls on her wrist painfully, "You know he'll hurt Nora more. She'll be more devastated knowing you supported this Beta of his than if he was here himself with her in this state of hers sharing the same forsaken bed."
"This isn't about your sister's damn virginity or her being the next Virgin Mary Alpha Xavier," Kaden exclaimed angrily. "This is heat we are talking about. Here are cases of women dying from complications of heat and also because of her Mate's leaving the Mating process incomplete for far too long. Nora's not hurting right now, she's suffering hell in her own body and she'll continue to suffer until Damon satisfies the heat of hers, which is something Damon can only do. The Moon Goddess-."
"The Moon Goddess has nothing to do with this anymore! She forged this hell of a bond between those two but it's their choice to complete it or not." Xavier said as a matter of fact.
"What type of brother are you? She's basically on her death bed and you're handing her over to the grim reaper just to preserve her virtue!" Kaden accused. Xavier growled, shooting ahead and grabbing his neck in his hand, shoving him up the wall so hard that the glass chandelier above rattled.
"Oh angel's above Xavier!" Christin sighed rubbing her belly. Shaking her head at her Mate choking Kaden, she moved to just besides him again, placing a hand to his back. "As much as I hate your pathetic ass, you're right Kaden. You know it Xavier he is. Let him go. Chocking him won't do any good right now. Maybe save it for the hunting season when his hairy wolf ass would be worth it."
The staircases creaked with the shuffling of footsteps, and down came a sprinting Zayn looking twice as worried than before. "She's getting worse. I can't describe it, but it's becoming worse for her. She's as hot as a burning flame and murmuring for Damon under her breath."
I coil my finger with Ryan's. Whatever is going to happen, whatever decision you all are going to make, make it quick. I fear Nora won't be able to bare it for long.
He turns the gesture by tightening his grip. Go to her. Please.
Xavier staggered back, unhanding Kaden.
You come too. She'd want you here. I move away from Ryan, giving a weak encouraging smile before turning to motion Christina and Mia to follow. The girls, Ryan and Xavier hesitantly and I, all made our way up the staircase abandoning Zayn with Kaden downstairs.
With every ascending step upward, the stench of something burning was worsening. It was like inhaling visible smoke fumes and with wolf scent it made it a ton times worse. Just reaching the door was a struggle. At times Ryan freezing behind, and me having to stay close to him and nudge him from ahead with a jam of my elbow to the ribs. Then he'd begin walking again. This occurred about 4 times before we had reached the bedroom in which Zayn had rested her.
The door was parted from the frame, a small gap opening. I push open the door wider, slowly, and was immediately struck with the stench of desperation. Nora was on the bed, her boots removed, velvety maroon sweater hitched up with her mid rift partially showing, toes on the pillow and head the opposite side with a hand hanging off the bed frame in our direction.
Stepping closer I could make out the beads of sweat drenching her hairline, her reddened raw lips from over-biting murmuring lowly, her chest increasing with every gulp of air and the soft tossing of her head side to side as if she were condemned in a nightmare.
I go the side of her bed with her face showing, her eyes shut yet I could see the sharp intake of every breathe on her face. Her face was scrunched in pain. Resting a hand on her head stroking her wet hair back, she pulls away with a loud groan.
"Angel," Mia said, extending a hand towel. I take the cloth, slowly dapping away at the moisture building up on her temple.
Nora grimaced, turning around til her head was rested back on the bed crying out for it to stop. "Make it stop please," she pleads, pulling at the bed-sheets with her fists. "I'll do anything, I promise. Just make it stop! Damon!!!"
"Nor-". Squeezing her eyes tighter than before, she grasped at the sheets even more as her back arched in pain.
Call him.
Okay...
...
Hey here. Just thought you know this chapter is only 1855 words. *sighs* My brain is fried from algebra equations.😔
Also, still on the same book as three weeks ago. I was so disappointed with the second of Diabolic, The Empress by S.J. Kincaid. My hopes were so high and now they rest in pieces. 🙁
I also recently (4 weeks ago recent, recently😛) finished The Cruel Prince by Holly Black and holy God of Cheese I loved it. I just loved it, loved it, loved it!♥️ I shall never forgot the ending...🤧
