Damon's POV;
Sunlight was beaming in through the glass window and reflecting around the room like fragments of glass shards. The curtains of lace swayed like a feather swindling in the wind, the silence utterly beautiful this time of morning.
Nora had been lightly snoring when dreaming peacefully in my arms. Somehow throughout the night Nora had rolled into my embrace, her chest wrapped with the bundle of sheets, her head now resting on my chest and long hair sprayed behind her, scattered on the pillow. She hadn't tossed or turn when enfolded in my arms. She looked as if though she hadn't a good night's sleep before, her chest heaving up and down with fatigue.
She looked at peace, an angel in resting and why not? This women clutched in my arms was the reason I could move on and forget the history shared between my mom and the Alpha of the Pack. She never hated me. She never did.
'What do you feel like? What should you be doing right now?' I tightened the hand on her neck, burying my face even further in her chocolate waves, loosing myself to her sweetly rose scent. The shivers she sent by holding me erupted into burst of tingles.
She didn't hesitate, her eyes setting heavily on my shoulder. 'Loving you,' she said a in low voice, half muffled by my shoulder. 'Loving you, knowing you'll break my heart either way, someway being the Monsieur Alpha-Damon-Romano you are and the fact that I cant change you from the person you choose to be.'
What have I done to deserve her? The Moon Goddess could be a sun fucking bitch on crack at times and I couldn't understand why she does what she does, but if this wasn't her generosity, I don't know what was. She gifted me a Pack that I fucked up big time, she entrusted me power which I abused to my heart's content, she gave me money which I learned to squandered a long time ago, but she granted me a Mate of significance. How I love that sun-fucking bitch on crack.
A realization of my aches slowly dawned me, the thought thickening my blood. This unusual aching of the limbs was of hers, not mine. I did it again last night, the Alpha dominating thing I always do. How could I expect Nora to forgive what I did to her last night, she was in heat but I didnt take her consent into consideration when ending it.
'D-D-Damon,' she had whimpered.
I could scream from frustration at this point but I refrain and end up shaking my head, sighing heavily to myself. Even Dylan was whimpering with remorse. Nora began to stir in sleep, probably when I had stopped stroking her hair from behind her ear.
My ears perk when I catch a gentle single tap on the door. As much as I didnt want too, I was compelled to roll Nora off and over to the other side of the bed, where she instead of holding my shirt pulled the dismantled sheets closer.
My eyes had grown heavy around half past one the previous night, and I awoke this morning, Nora was safely cuddled within my arms, sleeping like the dead. I had plenty of time to freshen up in the attached bathroom and wear the same clothes as last night before going back into bed to lay aside a snoring Nora.
I open the door to find Ryan with bed messy hair, a fist hanging by the door ready to knock again. "Oh, glad you heard. I wasn't in the mood to come barging in through the door to find you in the middle of searching for your underwear."
I step out, shutting the door behind as softly as I could.
"Ive been dressed since 6," I confess, crossing one arm under another. "J-just had to write something."
His eyes softening, as if he perfectly understood. "Damon. I know the type of guy you are; the life of a party, the one to live the grandest life in lush, the one to... get all the girls," He appeared to have to choke the words out of himself. "But Xavier, Zayn and I have only one sister. Xavier's probably said this to you before, with some aggression since that is really his style being the oldest grumpy Alpha, but this is how I want you to remember it Mr.Romano; don't, do, anything that will turn our only sister into a living corpse.
"She's grown up without a mother or father as you have, you two understand each other and have that in common. I agree it was our decision to have her married to you with the pretense of business but it has to be, no doubt your decision to love her and how you choose to express it, is entirely up to you but make it up to her. The death of her parents nearly hollowed her. If you carry on to act as you, I'm afraid you'll be as good as dead to her and you cant imagine how that will settle with her." I was speechless, Dylan nodding his head in agreement.
Aplogize, make amends necessary, Dylan recited.
Another door from down the hall was swung open, a tall man appearing and the door was then shut with great care. The man turned, inclining his head in a bow as he made his way towards us. He had great floppy hair, and that lopsided grin that meant trouble. "Alphas, good morning to you both."
"Dr.O'Brien, how is she?" Ryan asked frantically as if someone had set his patience to flames.
"Angel's condition is normal for an expecting mother as far in pregnancy as her, Alpha. She's remarkably well, and I see no complications whatsoever. She's currently resting in bed, I gave her some medications to help with the headaches." That last part seemed to have worried Ryan more, for his eyes had widen with fright.
"Hey, cheer up, they're both alright and you're becoming a father Mr.Moreau." The man in tight clothing chuckled freely, hand in his pockets. Ryan merely nodded the concern off, but was unsuccessful to wipe it from his eyes. In all these years, reading eyes and eye gestures had basically became my specialty.
"Dr.O'Brien meet our Nora's Mate, Alpha Damon," Ryan introduced, gesturing to me with a flick of his gaze, his hand now in his pockets as well. We stood face to face when he extended a hand to shake. "Pleasure to meet you Alpha. Heard a quite lot about your Pack."
"Indeed doctor," I said, withdrawing my hand to return back into my pocket. "Its really hard to miss when a wolf hearing is above the human average."
"Dr.O'Brien," Ryan interjected abruptly, "Was called in to check up on Angel. I thought it'd be good if you both were acquainted and if Dr.O'Brien could check up on Nora's health."
A growl of Dylan's disapproval slipped my tongue. He didn't want anyone but himself to see his Mate's nakedness and to some mini microscopic extent I agreed but again, he wasn't a rapist or so I thought. He was a doctor and it was her best. Unable to correspond with Dylan or say anything else, I hung my head watching the ground when I finally decided to give a nod.
Ryan appearing to understand my situation yet again, lead the doctor into Nora's bedroom without another word. Meeting my gaze, the doctor held a hand to my shoulder tightly before letting go. Dylan, whom was busily emitting a flow of ideas of how murder someone with the legs of a chair, had to be detained to the back of my head with all my mental strength.
Just after shutting the door behind him, Ryan had looked up and opened his mouth to say something when two voices came up the stairway. "The numbers of bodies are increasing everyday. The people are scared Xavier, trust has become scarce and I dont think we have the information needed to handle all this on our own."
"So you suggest we give up and depend ourselves on other Packs?" Xaveier seethed angrily. They both immediately wrapped their conversation with one another, hurrying towards us as soon as they spotted Ryan and I.
"How is she?" Xavier asked impatiently, not once looking at me even on accident.
"He just went in," Ryan answered with a sigh.
"What information are you in need of?" I ask, shocking both brothers except for Xavier.
The rage of his was replaced with pure brittleness. "Don't you have better stuff to achieve with your herd of bitches back home?"
"Xavier," Ryan warned, catching Zayn's glare. I couldn't help but glare a little at Ryan too. "He's just asking generally, he's not asking for your Alpha throne. Wouldn't kill you to be a little polite."
He kept the mildness and coolness in his tone when replying back to me, "What is with it to you? This is our Pack and our member's life on the line. Since when have you been concerned for other's life besides your own pathetic Pack's?"
"Since the person who I kept myself apart from began to mean something." That seemed to jolt the trio of brothers on an equal level. Xavier tried to cover the shock with a serious expression but Zayn and especially Ryan, both turned to face each with bemusement.
My mind erupted with the moments I spent with Nora; the night of the Games when Nora had tended to my wounds, the plane ride to New York, the alleyway of the club after saving Nora from rape, the night of and morning after, the children of the orphanage, the party at Kaden, the dance and then there was last night.
"I understand how much Nora means to you all, you're the family she has and cares for deeply while I'm...I'm just not anything. I never had a complete family to care for or a family whose ever cared for me, or I thought so. Lying to myself for so long taught me to distance myself from everyone whose ever gotten too close and I don't want to live like that anymore. Nora hasn't changed anything. I'm still the ruthless heartless Alpha everyone believes me to be, but my heart has undergo so much I don't think I cant stand be that person for long. Nora never did anything but simply love me, even if I hurt or lied to her and myself. Yes, there were time she doubted it and wanted me dead for the things I've done to hurt those she cared for but the truth is that in the end, I failed to see her love until I lost it like her trust.
"I know I've done some awful things I cant really repent for. If there is anything I can now do to help those people who mean so much to her, and I really hope there is, now is when I want to do it. I've wasted so much time in distancing myself, I fear that I've lost the chance to do the right thing that could redeem myself in her eyes. Please help me do the right thing for once." By the end, even Dylan's mouth was left widened. He gave a stumbled response of delight before pushing to the back of my head.
"If Im not mistaken, you are also facing a similar crisis of burnt Pack members showing up. What have you found so far?" Zayn inquired lowly as if we were in the danger of being overheard. I push the urge to cast a wicked grin.
"The people abducted are ghost. People who are hardly missed; orphans, runaways, elders, singles, people who dont have anyone left to remember their existence -which suggest whoever's doing this is remorseful and very keen on taking those who fit his/her profile. This suggests a high level of coordination and planning in advance, so the victims are definitely pre-chosen and speaks for the organization of the abductor. They most likely have a team because it isn't easy to take Pack members without rising red flags and guards. We also know the person whose doing all this brands their members with a tattoo exactly like mines, the night of Nora's appearance to the Pack confirms that, and then...there's always Nora herself." I swallow a gulp of saliva down, praying I was wrong about Nora being involved.
"What has Nora to do with all this?" Xavier questioned, shuffling on the spot.
"The night of Nora's appearance was an attack, a decoy to take members and even Nora herself." Zayn seemed to stare as if I had grown horns and Ryan looks so pale, I wouldnt be surprised if he threw up. "I had a chat with the attacker before he was killed, his Alpha apparently wanted Nora but he never said why. Oh, and one day I had even got a phone call taunting me about Nora's safety and the next you know it, she was attacked."
"Wait-"
"Hold up-"
"What!" Xavier exclaimed the loudest from the three, pupils straining gold.
"When was this?" He demanded, his canines extended and ready to fight.
"Some time ago but the point is that Nora vital to all this. If I'm right, then I suspect that van crashing into Nora's car when they coming back from your Pack was also done by the same person."
"Why would you kill the one person you're trying to obtain?" Ryan asked, now leaning against the wall with his head tilted to the side. "That's defeating the purpose by more than a long shot."
"Suppose this is all one person's doing, how can we target them back? Nora's safe here within the presence of one of us," Xavier looks at me in particular, "but how can we get them to strike again with us being around her 24/7 to catch the person responsible doing the deed?"
"You cant seriously be suggesting we use our Nora as bait now!" said Zayn. "Here we were thinking Damon was the death of her already but you take it the step further."
I glare at him, Xavier sighing and hanging his head in defeat. "We cant just sit idle, awaiting their next strike. There has to be more."
I shuffle a bit in my spot, my legs growing weary from standing in one spot. "There is. I dont know how much this of helps, but the attacks have been going on for some time, starting off as one or two cold cases in a 6 month period and then increasing to up to 10 bodies a month. Every trail me and my committee follow leads to a dead end."
"Why doesn't that surprise me, that an Alpha such as yourself was a wolf fan club? What do have to go to get in, have your face tattooed onto their ass and meet up in a den full of pictures of yourself to worship?" Ryan leers from against the wall, shaking his head from the thought.
"Funny how much you and you sister share the same belief." I reply, almost cursing from how heavenly good it felt to have Nora scooped in my arms, her arms curled around my neck, dense hair messily covering her face and intensifying pounding of her heart against my chest. The memory struck harder when I realized how much I longed for the feeling again.
He stifled a retort when seeing Xavier roll his eyes tiredly.
"But again, there's also the issue of the killer rogue werewolf with genetically altered DNA and Wolfsbane implanted canines," I shrug, holding my neck while twirling it side to side to help with the stiffness.
"Wait, what-?!"
"Hold up-!"
"Geesh! You cant be seriously fuc-" He was cut short by the door to Nora's bedroom opening and Dr.O'Brien standing in the middle wearing an unsettling frown.
"Alpha's," He regarded Xavier and Zayn both with a bob of his head. My hand slipped down with some sudden heaviness.
"How is she?" Xavier asked, his face hardening from the frown.
Dr.O'Brien's honey-suckle eyes wrinkled in my direction sadly. I couldnt help but skip his gaze and turn to see behind him if I could spot Nora. "She has mild bruising around her ankle, wrist, neck and other various areas. Her pulse is a bit thready and she can expect some weakness for a day or two but nothing too prominent she cant recover from."
Xavier bowed his head with stronger defeat than before, crossing his arms while from against the wall, Ryan appeared to slouch more as if he were trying to be swallowed whole. Zayn merely shook his head.
"I-Im sorry." I stutter, Dylan appearing to beat and curse himself for going to rough. "I-I have somewhere to be...yeah, Ill text you." I say to Ryan, who was now standing and had opened his mouth to say something but before he could, I had turned to flee.
