One: Departing

I had never once in my entire life had left the human quarters before, never! Never left the safety of my home, never passed the giant wall that separates us humans to the monstrous giants that lived beyond us. I've never even seen a giant, I have no idea what to expect? But I've heard many stories.

All I know is that giants are much bigger then our skyscrapers, they are very loud obnoxious creatures and some aren't very fond of our kind. We're like annoying pests that they can't get rid of. A reason could be since we killed our own planet hundreds of years ago, a nuclear war or some sort. Then what remained of us humans managed to find our way into space, soon finding this new world, a world of giants. I'm inhabited with Beings just like us except for the obvious size difference

Im not one to normally pay much attention in history, but I do know that some of the giants past that wall hate us. Despise our very existence. Majority don't really care about us, since we were so small and didn't take much room and actually take a liking to humans, but there are ones that don't. They are the ones to look out for.

It's been on the news, spreading fear into the innocents hearts. People having travelled past the wall and never returning to waiting friends and families. It's all because some anti-human giant decided to let his anger out on a poor defenceless human. Disgusting. The giants council doesn't care much though, they don't do a thing about all the reported missing people that have travelled past the wall into the giant quarters and never returned. Ever.

My mum just says their rumours, to not believe rumours since they are only created to make up drama between the races. Which wasn't a good idea.

It's not our fault that our ancestors In the past didn't know how to take care of a planet. it was over a hundred years ago, longer. It was time to get over past incidents. Our technology is way more efficient now, to keep the planet healthy.

I've been told in school that one of the many reasons why the planet died was our greed, want. Along with the pollution that clogged the air until people began dropping like flies, unbreathable polluted air filled people's lungs until they suffocated.

Now we use solar. The battery lasts forever as long as you keep it beneath the warmth of sun, which was easy since it hardly ever rained in this world. Longer and hotter days made for great showers.

...

I unzip my black backpack that was nestled between my knees and pull out my pink sleeping mask, which I would be definitely using for this trip . I'm expecting to fall asleep as soon as we take off. Its going to be a long trip to the giant quarters. the trips scenery wasn't much to look at, only seemingly never ending fields of wheat and corn and then tunnels of darkness. I can already feel myself itching to get out of this cramped bleach white, transport pod.

I notice the few people around me are already trying to doze off in their seats, everyone seemingly not looking forward either to the journey.

There's an older man with a light fray of thin grey-white hair that sprouted from his balding head, his grey eyes search the world outside with his head leant up against a frail hand. His face was worn, tired, wrinkles etched deep into his leathery skin. His expression was of frustration but also fatigue, he'd didn't belong here. Not in a world like this. He sat in silence, only watching the world outside. I couldn't help but wonder why and where he was headed into the giants quarters.

There's a woman in a business suit, casual yet smartly dressed, a red neck scarf wrapped warmly around her neck. Her face was made up nicely, red lipstick to match her neck scarf, but not over done like some girls. Her blonde hair was pulled back into a tight top knot bun. She had a slender face and high cheek bones, a pair of dark blue reading glasses nestled atop her nose. I guessed she was going to the giant quarters for business.

There were two backpackers, one a girl with auburn hair that hung loosely over her right shoulder whilst she leans into a blonde headed guy, probably a couple. There's the staff on the transport pod that were wandering up and down the aisle to check the limited amount of passengers. But then there's me and mum, sitting towards the back in silence. Like I said, people don't like to go to the giant quarters much.

I glanced over to my mum seeing that she was bubbling in her seat, smiling down at a her brand new phone as if she were a madly in love teenage girl again. Her eyes were of an iridescent blue that was placed upon a porcelain face like two jewels. Long hazel curls cascaded from beneath a light blue head scarf, lips a gentle rosy colour and teeth white like pearls. For her age, my mother was a quite a breath taking, having a few wrinkles in the corners of her eyes and mouth from years of smiling. Her long elegant fingers typed across a screen, typing, probably texting Brian.

She's so excited for me to finally meet him, Her hubby to be. My future stepdad. Brian Taylor. He was a boss of a major company that use to create 3D diagrams of homes, but now recently decided on manufacturing functional human houses to live in. It happens to be my mother had to be working for him. Of course he fell for her, she was a good looking single woman. I'm dreading the very day he gets down on one knee and pops the big question. That is if he can get down on one knee, would most likely have to perch her up on a shelf since he's a giant.

My mother has fallen for a giant. It's nearly unheard of in our parts, humans and giants as a couple. I can't believe it! They've been dating for over a year now and now they've decided to move in together to become one big happy family. Since giants can't come into the human quarters since they'd most likely crush the place to dust, we've had to resort to moving packing up our home and get our stuff to the giant quarters by ourselves.

But what makes my blood boils is that, Brian has a son! Living with a teenage boy makes my blood boil. Me and Brian's son, I think his name is Aiden or something along those lines. I couldn't think of anything worst. I'm going to have to deal with two giant, smelly men. One a horny teenager and the other a madly in love hubby.

My life sucks.

Giant and human love is looked down upon by both races. Giants are scowled at by the anti-human giants and humans are frowned upon by family and friends. It's just so strange if you think about it, a human and a giant, in a relationship. What happens when they want to kiss? It made me cringe at the thought and a shiver runs up my spine, causing mum to look up from her phone.

"Tessi? Are you cold? Would you like me to ask for a blanket?" Her crystal blue eyes look me up and down, a frown tugging at the corners of her lips. i scowled plastered on my face all of a sudden, I hated that she was dragging me along with her. I could have easily lived with other family.

"No. I'm fine" i groan to her bluntly in reply, turning in my seat so that I was comfortable but also didn't have to look at her giggling like a girly teenager again at her phone. It's weird and no mum should ever do that. Ever.

Looking out my small circular window I watch as thousands of people push past each other, trying to get to their pods on time. The crowd flowed together like a stream, the moods of the people were hidden behind dark faces, not a single smile or real expression shown on his face. In that moment I have a feeling of freedom sitting here in the pod with my mother and few others, it was so peaceful compared to the mayhem outside.

I watch an older man with a more frantic expression in his eyes, wearing a business suit, running down the stations swarming platform towards a pod. His eyes are wide with panic and plastered to his wristwatch. Seemingly without realising, he pushes his way past a young couple holding hands like a maniac. There was a stumble and What looked to be some words of anger from the couple. But he hadn't even bothered to apologise as he sprints away, probably late for his pod.

I laugh at the couples shocked faces. The guy shouts something back at the man which I can't hear through the glass. The blonde girl turns to the guy, a frown on her large lips. She begins to says something before they walk of together then begin Kissing each other.

I pull my pink, soft sleeping mask over my eyes, blocking out the tongue train and the face sucking. Yuck. How is mum and Brian going to do that.

Why do I torture myself.

I sigh loudly through my nose, It's going to be a long and painful trip. Might as well get some shut eye.

"Ladies and gentlemen, you may now unfasten your seat belts and make your way off the Pod" a soothing robotic woman's voice crackles from the speakers overhead, making me jump from where I sleep against the wall.

I groan at the annoying voice and rip my sleeping mask off my head. I groggily turn to see mum is standing and already grabbing our carry on luggage.

Wow we got here fast.

"Please keep in mind to be careful where your walking throughout the pick up bays." Meaning be careful to not get stepped on by any careless giants, "The staff and other members of the crew hope that you enjoyed your flight from the human quarters to giant quarters." It was great! I was asleep the whole time so I wouldn't know. "And wish you a safe trip whilst visiting, we thank you for choosing AirGo Pods and welcome you to the giant quarters. Thank you" the robotic lady's voice cuts out as the pods doors slide open, making a 'poof' sound whilst doing so.

Ha! We aren't visiting, we are staying. For the rest of our sorry lives.

I jump up out of my seat, leaning over I crack my back, my neck, then stretch my arms over my head. They could make these seats a little bit more comfortable.

I turn back to my tiny window, crouching down I try to get a glimpse of what outside might look like. I gasp, the entire bay is empty! There's not another human insight, well expect for the janitor whose asleep on a bench. But other then that no ones here!

NO ONE!

It's just whoever is on this stinking pod. Great.

"Ready?" I turn back to mum, a smile from ear to ear on her face. She's so happy. I feel bad for screaming at her yesterday. I always yell at her then feel like shit after. I don't mean it, it just happens.

I just cant ruin this for her now by moaning and groaning the whole time. She deserves to be happy, even if it means living in the friggin giant quarters for the rest of her sad life. I'm sure as hell not staying a second longer when I turn eighteen. As soon as I hit the big one eight I'm outta here.

I force a bright smile, making sure my eyes light up with it.

"Let's do this" I force my smile to widen, even though I feel empty inside. Mum seems to glow with happiness. Her smile widening even more as she bounces on the spot, clapping her hands.

Awww mums so cute. She still acts like a little girl sometimes.

"This is going to be good for us Tess, you wait" and with that she walks off, leaving me to grab my own bag. Thanks for the help Mum.

My smile drops as I step out of the seating isle and try yanking my bag out of the carriage holder above my head. It doesn't budge as I try pulling on it harder. Again and again I try pulling my over stuffed carry on luggage, but it won't budge.

I yank on it one last time and my bag comes tumbling out, nearly hitting me in the head. I groan loudly at my bag, I already hate this and I haven't even gotten off the Pod yet. I haven't even met a giant yet! I try getting the stupid wheels to work on this stupid BAG! But life just hates me right now..

"Do you need any help?" I slowly look up and turn to see one of the Pod staff standing next to me. A fake smile also plastered on her lips. Her red lips twitching in amusement at me struggling with my bag. Her blonde hair is perfectly tide back in a pony tail and she's extremely short, her heels making her look taller then what she actually is. She sort of looks like those old toys they had, a barbie?

"Oh no, I'm fine" I smile waving her off before walking away, growling at my bag thats still not working.

Stupid wheels, Stupid bag, stupid Mum, stupid giants, stupid love, stupid life!

I wheel my bag down the isle, continuing to mumble and groan about having to be here. I'm not excited to meet a giant and be man handled by one either.

Mum explained to me that Brian or his son is going to have to carry me back to their car and pretty much everywhere since the Pod station is huge and would take days to walk across and so is everything in the giant quarter. It scares me to think that if Brian or his son were to drop me, that would be it. I'd be dead, a puddle of blood on the ground.

I sigh as I step off the Pod, This is not going to be fun.
