Eight: Sleepy 💤

(Btw the song above is what Jace and the boys are listening too. One of my favourite bands! Don't judge)

The drive home was much quieter compared to the drive to the shopping centre earlier had been. There hasn't been much talk from either Jace or Austin, nor me since I didn't want to break the incredible silence and peace that we'd created. Only the near soundless gears turning and working with Austin's choices in the engine could be heard, I could feel the power of the 100 thousand pounds worth of hand crafted giant power. Whenever Austin stopped, I jerked. Whenever he sped up, I fell into Jace. Briefly I could hear the wind roar against the windscreen, creating a soothing mellow hum.

While i listened, Darrick sat in the back again, not a word slipping past his sealed lips. Austin had to search for him high and low throughout the mall after he'd mysteriously run off. Still, no one knew why he had left us in the first place and we were all wondering what could the reason be for why he was against saying where he'd gone.

I couldn't help myself, curiosity building like a cat fixated on its prey. i tilted slightly and peered back to the Jet black haired Darrick with large eyes, seeing his huge bear like paws clutching a small can which he held by his chin, sipping on a red straw to bring sweet soda to his mouth. He had a blank gaze, eyes slightly glazed over as if he had he had been crying, only half-aware of a world outside the claustrophobic comfort of the car. His dreary eyes looked out the closed window with his chin in an open palm and a frown plastered on his large lips, only slightly tugging down in an attempt to hide it, un aware that he had someone watching . His large frame takes up the entire back of the car, legs spread open wide like earlier, knees resting on the seats either side of him. His large hips take up at least two seats which groan whenever he shifts. He didn't look to me or the other boys, eyes gazing out like two pools of hazel as if he were waiting for something exciting to happen.

I looked away slowly from the sad looking boy and instead looked up to where I was seated in Jace's lap, to see him also gazing out to the outside world that drove by, which I'm yet to see since I'm so far below the windows view range.

I watched, disgusted as Jace shoved a handful of fries into his mouth, chewing, no, more like inhaling his food. Making a contented noise at the back of his throat, he smiles, the rumble moving through his body and down through his belly. He washed it down with a large gulp of soda and took a large chunk of his ketchup soaked burger, chomping his food down like a machine. I looked at the mountain of fries on his lap and couldn't seem to understand why he enjoyed it so much. Grease oozed from the pile, soaking the napkin underneath, yet it still had an unnatural sheen to it.

He swallowed each bite with a smile, and I looked up to him and watched his Adam's apple bobbing up and down as his food was forced into his gullet, I couldn't help but shudder, trying to reject an Image I didn't want. Gross.

I groan softly and wipe my hands on the supplied human sized napkins, wiping the grease from each finger carefully one by one. After having my share of one of Jace's fries, I was stuffed and couldn't eat other bite of the salty food. I'd always hated the feeling of greasy fingers or lips after eating anything fried. It turned me off, even though it tasted so good.

I let out a sigh and then look up to Jace again, hearing he had began to sing lightly now with the light music that drifted through the speakers in the background. It was rock and roll type music that belonged to Austin, who was only listening, letting the breeze whirl through his dark chocolate locks that entered in from his slightly cracked open window. He breathed in deeply, as if the breeze was sweet, filling his lungs deeply then letting out his breath. I smiled a little to him, then turned my attention back to the music since there was nothing else to succumb my boredom. The music was nothing I'd ever heard before and the singer had a strange accent similar to Jace's, but thicker and more annoying to my ears.

"What did I ever do to make me feel so blue" Jace hummed deeply through his lips, it rumbling throughout his chest and into his belly against my spine.

Wait~

I looked up in shock, not believing my ears. His voice was smooth, clear and quiet unlike the rock song which played in the background. I've never heard the song before, it was alright but definitely nothing like my taste in music. But Jace's voice was... Beautiful. Peaceful. I know people don't usually call a guy's voice peaceful or beautiful, but it was. I almost wished it would never stop. I wanted to compliment him, to say how much i enjoyed his voice. But my lips stayed sealed.

A sudden explosion of goosebumps erupted up and down either one of my arms because of Jace. I let out a soft sigh past my lips and slowly began to sink back against the folds of the loose shirt that bundled up around Jace's abdomen. i allow myself to slowly let my eyes close. I allow myself to curl up and gently yawn. I feel this heaviness come over me. Like a blanket of warmth, that makes my eyes feel heavier and heavier until they are like lead. Not realising how exhausted i was, I finally close my eyes, sending me into a dreamless sleep against the giant boy. ...

When she was asleep, and finally noticed she had fallen asleep, he noticed how she lay as still as a brick. The only movement was the slight rise and fall of her tiny chest and the strands of hair that flew about her mouth. Smiling, Jace turned to look to his friends and leans back carefully in his seat to let them get a good look.

"hey, check this out. She fell asleep on me" he whispers to not disturb the sleeping human in his lap, who had cuddled her face into his shirt like an adorable pup. He couldn't help but enjoy the sight, how her strawberry blonde curls fell into her closed eyes and brushed over her small rosy cheeks.

"Shh, let her sleep would you" Austin whispered back, having peered over and was now smiling after seeing Tess's sleeping form. All boys awed for a second at the tiny girl, but all silently agree to allow her to sleep and managed to fall back into silence, Austin's music was put on pause and Darrick stopped sipping at his drink so it wouldn't slurp.

The silence hung in the air, weighing down heavily on the three boys usual playful manor. The only thing to be heard was tiny breaths from the tiny sleeping body. It made Jace uncomfortable and he shifts a little in his seat under Tess, not wanting to wake her he clutches his long fingers together, trying to calm himself.

"She's a heavy breather..." Jace whispers out of the blue, looking to Tess then the boys, listening to her raspy breaths that wheezed from her weak chest. Asthma wasn't kind to some. Neither one of the boys replied to Jace, Austin holding in a chuckle while Darrick was glancing back and forth about the car out of boredom.

Soon enough they arrived out the front of Austin's home, Austin bringing his car to a stop behind his father's car, before turning to climb out. By the time they arrived home, the sun had fallen and enveloped the giant city in a blanket of oranges and yellows, a cool breeze settling in and blowing about the leaves from the tree that sat by the driveway. Austin walked down the path towards his home, shoes slapping against the stone steps that led to his front door, Darrick not too far behind.

But Jace had paused, staring down at the tiny sleeping girl. He was nervous, not wanting to wake her he debated on how to lift her up and bring her inside.

Moving slowly, he stretched open his fingers and tried to gently slide his long digits beneath the peaceful girl. He bites his lip, strong fingers scooping up the human girl as if she were nothing more than a ragdoll. He unbuckles himself from his seat and opens his car door, stepping out delicately as if he were standing on thin ice, he shimmies around the car as if he were holding an expensive vase in his hands, not holding a girl close to his chest over protectively. He could feel her cool body shift slightly in his clammy hands. He sucks in a nervous breath, not wanting to wake her.

Quickly, he pockets her tiny shopping bags in his jeans and makes his way to the entrance of the large home. He was aware of every step and leaf that came too close to the sleeping girl, blowing frantically at a orange leaf as it threatened to land on her. He lets out a sigh of relief as the leaf floated to the side and landed lightly on the ground. Continuing forwards, he grinned once he'd safely carried her up the driveway and through the doorway of Austin's home, looking down to her strewn-out limbs in his palm, he couldn't help but smile. Biting his lip he decides to then take her upstairs to Austin's room, where he opens her little roof and sets her into her tiny bed, struggling a little with his larger fingers. But eventually, gets her tucked in to let her sleep.
