A God.
I was standing in the presence of another God. I had shared a bed with a half God, I was carrying his children.
Neither party at either end of the field moved, each person watching the other to try and judge what the appropriate move would be.
A murmur of voice clouded together and travelled like a whisper of wind as they pleaded for protection from the person they thought as their mother. But she was not their mother, she was mine. The mother of my kind and she owed it to us to protect her own before coming to the rescue of the incidental race known as Werewolves.
My main focus was on the only child in the clearing. A child I nearly regarded as my own even though he was my brother. I could see the fear seep through his eyes as he looked to me for the reassurance that I always had for him.
Suddenly I saw the Alpha move quickly. He charged at his Beta, feeling the need to assert his dominance in front of his pack. My heart raced rapidly in my throat knowing that I would probably witness him die.
I could see something move in the bushes but the darkness hid it from my human vision. I was not the only one to notice, the God who stood before me was gone quickly whipping through the trees enjoying the chase.
I closed my eyes taking a few deep breaths trying to calm my nerves from the fighting that was going on in front of me. As they peeled open again I could see Emmett, my Nana and Beau running towards me. Donovan paid them no mind his sole focus on the Challenge.
Emmett reached for me once they neared, but I recoiled with a glare. I gripped Beau and pulled him towards me pushing him behind me.
"How dare you!" I snapped at him.
"Lilah listen it was for your own good. You wouldn't have know it would've been like an accident-" he started, from the corner of my eye I could see my Nana nodding. My hand raised without a second thought and came crashing down on the side of his face.
"You do not get to make my decisions for me! I already have a male in my life who because of your culture controls my decision! This was my choice, you don't get to take it upon yourself to change it just because you don't agree with it. I want to be a mother," I spat out at them.
I was seething with anger after they had proven what Donovan spoke of to be true. Emmett and my grandmother knew the plan to remove the growing babies from my womb without my consent.
"It does not matter, come we must leave," I glared as Emmett tried coaxing me.
"It does not matter? How dare you," I could feel tears brim in my eyes at the dismissal of their betrayal.
"You are all worse than anything Donovan had done to me. At least I had never trusted him. You people however?" I couldn't help but laugh through the tears, I should have known.
"You betrayed me, my trust, my decisions. You are all manipulative pieces of shit. I will go nowhere with any of you," I stood tall covering Beau despite my obvious impaired circumstances, I could not fend for us while being pregnant.
A look of hurt washed across Emmett's face but I merely scoffed at it. He could not feign hurt in this situation just for hearing the truth. I was the only person that had the right to be upset.
"Lilah you are coming with me," Emmett finalized with a growl stepping towards me.
"Why do you believe in that delusional brain of yours I'll love you and be the dolce mate that you never had? You will not bend my will for anything," I stood my ground staring him straight in the eye, wolf or not.
He growled at me reaching forward only for a threatening noise from behind stop him. Donovan had turned his back on the Alpha and was snarling at the male who was trying to reach for me. He had not shifted, still in his human skin. Emmett retracted from me stepping back. He looked at me glaring before fleeing into the forest, but I knew he was merely lurking in the shadows. Not entirely gone. With the threat gone Donovan went back to the clashing of limbs with Rowan. Something that I tried to avoid seeing the best I could.
"Lilah please listen-" my Nana pleaded.
"Do not speak to me. I thought family was suppose to mean something, you taught me it did. That there was love and support no matter the circumstances. Well where has that notion gone? You are all a bunch of hypocrites." I began walking back to the car Beau's hand tightly in mine.
Cold hands grabbed my shoulders making me instantly turn ready with my loose tongue to give a verbal attack. I was taken aback to see a person cloaked in black, the darkness looked attached to them but the longer I stared I realized who it was by the eyes hidden under the dropping hood. Eyes that held a million stars.
"What are you doing here-" I made a sound of discomfort as she gripped my arms tightly.
"Come I must get you to safety," her eyes moved frantically around me, searching.
"I'll just get back in the car-" I turned to get back in the car.
"No," she bit out tugging me back to her. I hissed pulling away from her cradling my bruising arm to my chest.
Her body stilled as she refrained from grabbing me again. Her face dropped and panic tainted her beautiful face. Arms slowly coiled around her. Staring behind her I could see the culprit.
"Athanasios," she breathed out his name like that of a prayer of love but the windows to her soul said different.
"Selene who would have of thought you would come out of hiding for a human," he snickered.
"Let us leave here and we can talk," she turned in his arms. Giving him a look of adoration, but if you looked closer it was merely a cloak for desperation.
As they stood wrapped in one another they passed as normal lovers, something so mundane. Nothing like the Gods they were. He tutted down at the woman in his arms.
"No Selene, I know what you're trying to do. I want to know what you have been spewing in my absence, what lies you have told about me."
The passive loving look quickly turned to that of a sour scowl making the towering man grin. I could see her jaw knot at the sides as she held her tongue, calculating and mulling over what words she should spin next.
"Tell me little human what has she told you?" I gulped knowing he was talking to me even though his eyes never strayed from his other half.
"You are the god of death, the creator of the Lycan's who enjoyed ripping apart her creation, humans," I swooned at the energy emerging from both begins, like an enchantment.
"I see," he hummed under his breath.
"Yes I am the God of Death, Humans fear death but in order to embrace life and new beginnings their must the conscious that it could cease to exist. My creation was the first to roam earth as self aware creatures. That is not what matters you see little human you know nothing about Selene here other than what she wants you to know," he gripped her jaw as she glared up at him.
"We are created to balance one another but that doesn't mean I am the embodiment of everything you would deem bad nor is she the embodiment of everything good. Our core power is life and death because it is the most powerful and to balance that we have other traits you could call them.
Where I am the God of Pride, Selene is the God of Jealousy.
I am the God of Truth, she is the God of Deceit.
While I am the God of Aggression, she is the God of Manipulation.
She is the God retribution but I am the God of Gifts.
She is the God of Disorder but I am the God of Order.
Our traits also reflect our core powers Death is final, definite and certain but Life is Chaotic and unpredictable. Beauty can be found in both.
Our creations are a reflection of us. If you self reflect you might notice most displayed daily from your race," he growled a little trying to gauge my reaction.
I gulped taking a deep breath in avoiding his penetrating eyes. Before I could understand what he was saying he was on another tangent of reasoning.
"The key to everything I just said little human is that Selene is the God of Manipulation, Jealousy and Deceit. I had gifted your race with Music, language, many gifts. I even made sure that each tribe or country as you know them had their own unique one. Yet Selene was jealous of how superior my race was and she altered a few groups of her creation. Turned them to hunters and mages.
They came after my Creation slaughtered the weakest because they couldn't take on the stronger beings. They murdered children. I commanded my creations to show assertion to the lower being and gave them a ruler of their own kind to follow, Aldrich was the first Lycan, the first being to place their foot amongst earths soil. He despised humans for not understand their rankings in life. I gifted my creatures with traits that they needed to show they were the superior aggression, dominance, pride, stubborness. Aldrich had the ability to disconnect from his emotions to ensure he done what needed be.
While I was emotionally drained from the slaughter of my creatures Selene came to me with the promise of a settlement but she manipulated me. A Great War began between us but she had absorbed some of my essence, my power and cast me away to the place of our birth. I had to wait until I regained my power before I could break free."
My head was reeling with all the information, trying to take in as best as I could. But with every bit of knowledge came a question.
His grip tightened on her jaw turning her towards Donovan who was between shifting. It was the same monster that I had saw, he was not ready to show his full potential yet.
"Look at him, my Son and tell me you don't recognize something within him."
Her eyes peered at Donovan, she was trying to see within him.
"No," she gasped in horror.
"What is it?" My voice was barely a whisper.
"Aldrich," She stuttered her eyes ablaze.
"My son's beast is the reincarnation of Aldrich's Lycan. I had gifted it to my Son as I felt his energy developing after I had planted my seed in his mother's womb. I had been in contact with my son for years, wondered when his inner beast would awaken. I had pondered why it was dormant until a few weeks ago."
The Goddess's face paled as it dawned on her.
"It was not until he met you little human," his teeth gleamed in the moonlight.
Although they were not sharp they frightened me almost as much Donovan's if not even more. For they promised the revelation of many secrets, some that should be left in the dark. There was a secret that burned in his eyes, knowing the power behind it and that secret I was afraid involved me.
