"What were you doing last night?" Levi asked, coming to me. He stood at my side and watched as everyone worked to get food off of the truck in front of us. "He came last night, but your grandmother sent him away."

I marked off the boxes of hot dogs from the list I had on a clipboard and nodded for the male to get them dropped off. "Half of them in the freezer and see who had bought them for their houses. There should be a list on the big fridge of who had bought them. The rest of them go into the big fridge."

"Yes, A- Beta," he said, nodding his head. He bowed to Levi and walked away, pushing the cart in front of him.

"Bring the cart back this time, Cade. We still have a lot of food left to split."

"I will," he yelled back. "It was just one time."

"Four times. It was four times. Next time you don't bring the cart back when you are finished, you will deliver all of the food yourself. Oh, and I will make you mark off on everything. If something is missing, then... I don't know what I'll do to you... yet."

There were a pause and a curse. Cade knew that I wasn't joking. I would make him run laps around the pack border with some weights on, and he'd have to make sure that no one saw him. "I'll bring it back," he grumbled.

"Alexandra," Levi warned.

"I was asleep," I replied, rolling my eyes at him. I started to count the box of chips in front of me, making sure that we had everything. "He came too late."

"And why didn't you stay up to wait for him?" There was a bit of hurt in his voice, and I paused, surprised. He seemed upset that I didn't wait for him either, and I couldn't help but wonder if the spell was breaking some.

"I had taken some of Gram's tea, and it helped me fall fast asleep, surprisingly." I gestured for the person to get going after I made sure that we had everything. "You know what to do, Shane. Make sure that the machines are filled first."

Shane nodded his head. "I will," he promised. He bowed his head and left.

"Why did you drink tea? Did you know that it would knock you out?"

"I was hoping that it would," I replied, coldly. I started to count the meat, making sure that we had enough to last for a while.

"Why?"

I slammed the clipboard on the box and turned to look at him. A snarl was on my lips, and I glared at him. Deep annoyance and anger filled my body as I looked at him, praying to the Goddess that I wouldn't pounce.

Levi took a step back, his eyes becoming wide with shock. A look of fear flashed through his eyes, and he saw that I was dangerous and not some weak mutt. His mouth was a little open, but no sound came out as he waited for me to do something, say something.

"I have been having trouble sleeping, Alpha," I spat, baring my teeth. "Why the hell do you think that I was in the gym early last morning?"

Levi didn't say a word. He closed his mouth and studied.

I growled again, before turning back to what I was doing. I counted the boxes of meat and gestured with my hand for the female to leave. "There is a list on the fridge to split it between the pack members. Put three boxes in the fridge and the rest of them in the freezer."

The female nodded her head and pushed the cart away. Her face was pale, and I could tell that I had scared her.

I took a deep breath and let it out. "Sorry," I grunted before starting to count something else out. I trusted the people enough to give us the full boxes. However, I didn't trust them enough to make sure that they would give us all our boxes.

"Why do you have trouble sleeping?" he asked, his voice soft.

I licked my lips and shrugged. I could feel the eyes of the pack on us, and I knew that they were worried about me. "Later," I grunted.

Levi was about to say something but was interrupted when someone yelled 'Levi.' He looked annoyed by the high pitched yell, but he made sure to mask his feelings before his "girlfriend" came over.

The girlfriend, Mindy, I think, placed her arm through his and clutched him as if he was some prize. She was pouting, and I couldn't help but think that she looked fake. "Where have you been, Babe?" she asked in a nasal voice. "Why are you out here? It is so hot." She fanned her face.

"Welcome to a Georgia spring," I muttered. I was about to count a box of spices when someone cleared their throat. I frowned and looked at a fifteen-year-old boy holding a box and looking rather nervous. "Yes? What is it?" I asked.

"Ummmm, your grandmother ordered another secret box," he said, coming over to me. He held the box, and I could see that there was a note on it.

"What does the note say?" I asked.

"It says for you not to open the box. It also says that someone needs to send it straight to her when it arrives."

I huffed and nodded my head. I looked at my list to see a note that said 'Gram's secret box,' and I pursed my lips in annoyance. "Go take it to her," I said, marking it off. "Tell her that she better have used her own money if she doesn't want me to look in it."

"The note also says to tell you that she did pay for it by herself, and you don't have to worry about her money."

I scowled. "Go ahead and take it to her."

"Yes, Beta." He nodded his head and started to walk towards my grandmother's house.

"Oh, and tell her that she should use a different truck if she doesn't want me to know about it."

He nodded. "I will," he promised. He walked away, moving quickly before I had him tell her something else.

"What's going on?" Mindy asked in a whining voice. "What is all of this stuff?"

"Food for the pack," I replied, starting to count the boxes in front of me. I glanced at her when she scoffed. "What? We buy in bulk. The pack pays for what they want, and the rest are for those that didn't know they need it."

"Well, that is just stupid."

You are stupid, I thought. "Get going. Make sure to split them up by type of spices before going over and making sure who needs what. Ok?"

The female nodded. "Yes, Beta," she said before leaving.

"You're just going to let her do this?" Mindy shrieked, and the pack stopped and looked at her. She glared at Levi, urging him to tell me to stop.

"I-"

"He has no choice," I said, interrupting him. "The company is underneath the king, and the only person that has control over the money and food is the person that has been working with the pack the longest, i.e., me."

"But, Levi is the Alpha. He has control over it."

"He has left for two years and has been out of commission for those two years. He has no idea what is going on with the pack and how it is faring money wise."

"What, and you do?"

"But of course, Alpha, I had been the stand-in Alpha, which is why we are still afloat and haven't failed."

"Exactly, you are the stand-in Alpha. You have no control over the money nor food."

"Do you want to make a bet?" I asked, raising an eyebrow. "I can show you the law that states that I am in control of the money and food orders. The only way two ways that I can be removed is if it is shown that I am incompetent in what I am doing or if a higher rank than me, in this case, Alpha Levi, is shown to be able to do it by taking different tests that the king will set up. If there are any qualms about him, then he can't do it."

"Then, it is up to the Luna." Mindy looked at me smugly as if she knew that she had stumped me.

I chuckled coldly. "You poor thing," I said. "The only way that you can be is if he marks and mates with you. Oh, and one more thing," I leaned towards her and bared my teeth, "If you try to touch the food and what is done, then the group that you work for will not be able to protect you. Even the controlled Alpha will not be able to." My voice was soft and cold, so that she was the only one that could hear.

Levi growled and pushed me back away from his "girlfriend." "Do not threaten my girlfriend," he warned. "And I don't believe you. I want to see this... law."

My phone dinged, and I reached into my pocket and pulled it out. I pursed my lips when I saw a message from Nike, and he wanted coffee at the local coffee shop in the city between our two packs. "I will have someone bring you the law, Alpha," I said, stuffing my phone back into the pocket. "Miguel?" I called, and the Gamma lifted his head from stacking boxes to look at me. "Ven aquí por favor. (Come here, please.)"

Miguel walked over to me and furrowed his brows. He looked at Levi and Mindy to see that they were confused about what I had said, and I could tell that he understood that I wanted to talk in a language that they wouldn't understand. "¿Sí? (Yes?)" he asked, raising an eyebrow.

"Voy a tomar un café y hablar con agluien. (I am going to get coffee and talk to someone.)"

"¿Quien? (Who?)" he asked.

I scowled. "Termina esto, y quiero esto en la casa de mi abuela cuando hayas terminado por favor, (Finish this, and I want this at my grandmother's house when you are done, please,)" I said, ignoring his question.

Miguel scowled, knowing that I wouldn't tell him who I was meeting with them there. "¿Algo más? (Anything else?)"

"Can you get Alpha Levi and Miss Mindy the law that states the food and money rules?" I asked. "I think I have a book with highlighted sections somewhere because the Council wanted a dissertation about how it worked and if it worked. Give them that too."

Miguel's lip flickered up in an amused smirk. He knew how long my dissertation was because he helped me edit it. "Anything else?" he asked.

I shook my head, no. "I will be back by five."

Miguel nodded and took the book from me. "Then, I will see you then," he said. "Stay safe."

I didn't reply but smirked as I made my way to my truck. I was going to be all right, and if I wasn't, then I was going to fight my way out of whatever.
