I watched the house where the address had taken me and waited for something or someone to appear at the doorway. My whole body was relaxed, or at least, it was as relaxed as I could be with no idea what would happen.

The door leading to the back entrance opened, and someone stepped out holding a gun. They looked left and right, and I felt this power coming off of him that made me want to go out and bow, but I shrugged it off.

"Hmph," the person said, and I had a feeling that they approved of me fighting their command. "Come out, now," the person, a male, said while he looked in the direction that I was seated in. "I know that you are there."

I didn't move a muscle.

He cocked the gun, and I bit back a snort, unamused when he pointed it at me. "Don't make me shoot you," he warned, and I couldn't help but snort.

That man wasn't going t-

Bang, a bullet landed in the tree beside me, missing me by a couple of inches.

That motherfucker decided to shoot at me. What the actual fuck?

"I warned you to come out," he said, and I had a feeling that he was pleased with himself. "Now, will you come out, or do I have to shoot you again?" He held the gun toward me, but he didn't cock it again.

I scoffed and rolled my eyes, but I walked from behind the bushes and shifted into my human form. I walked the rest of the way to the house and stuffed my hands into my jacket. "So y-"

"I wished you had dressed as yourself and not like your alias, Miss DeLamont," the male said, interrupting me. "However, that will be fine for now, so please, do come in." He walked into his house, and I blinked and blinked again.

Hesitantly, I followed him into the house and closed the door to the kitchen while I watched him set some tea for us. "My name i-"

"I might be blind, but I can still see," the male said while he poured a cup of tea for me and one for him. "I know that your real name is Alexandra May DeLamont. You are twenty-two-years old, and you are the Beta of the Yara Pack, but you are standing in as Alpha as you had for the past two years."

I gave him a weird look but stayed silent.

"Hmph," the male said and smirked. "Here you go," he said and walked over to the table. "Have a cup of tea."

I looked at the cup of tea and then at him. I did not trust him enough to drink something from him.

The male chuckled and smirked. "You don't have to be so uptight with me, Beta," he said. He sat down at the table and placed the tea for me beside him. "Sit," he said, "and drink the tea."

I hesitated, walked over to the table, and sat down. "I do not think I will drink it," I said, coldly. "I do not know who you are, Sir."

He chuckled. "Your grandmother knows me, and so does the male you had acquired my information from." He gave me a look, and I had a feeling that he was talking about Chase.

I raised an eyebrow. "You know my grandmother," I said, my voice hard. "How do you know my grandmother?"

The male chuckled. "She gets her tea from me," he replied. He nodded to the tea. "Drink," he said, and I hesitated but nodded.

I took the cup of tea and drank some of it. I raised an eyebrow when I tasted the same tea that my grandmother gave me sometimes.

The male chuckled again, and I had a feeling that he caught sight of my raised eyebrow, even though he was blind. "Told you," he said. He cleared his throat to hold back a chuckle. "You can call me Horus," he said, and I raised an eyebrow in question. "Yes, like the symbol that I had taken, Beta," he said.

"Hmph," was my response, and I drank some more of the tea. I had a feeling that I knew what he wanted to do, even though I had no idea how he would do it.

Horus took another of his sip. He cleared his throat and studied me. "I want you to bring your mate with you tomorrow," he said. "Make sure that you bring your mate."

"Bu-"

"I know that he is being controlled," he said, interrupting me, and I scowled. "However, I need to see the bond between you two first hand. It's the only way that I can help."

"Are you going to use the same cups as my grandmother?" I asked, and he chuckled but nodded. I scowled. "He hadn't figured it out when he and I were drinking tea together."

"Were you two facing each other when you tried?" he asked. "He would like that."

"But do you really want the controlled part of him to know?" I asked.

"He is becoming one and the same," Horus replied, repeating what my grandmother had told me before I left. "The controlled and the not controlled part of him are agreeing on some things. The main thing that they agree on is what to do with you."

I raised an eyebrow but stayed silent.

Horus sighed and placed his cup on the table. He stared at me with unseeing blue eyes, and for some reason, I had a feeling that he could see me, not the actual form but the spiritual part, whatever that meant. "They both want you," he said. "They claimed you as theirs; did they not?"

"They did," I confirmed. "The Alpha said that I was his when I told him that I had a "secret lover.""

He looked at me expectantly. "Well?" he asked, and I raised an eyebrow in question. "Do you?"

"Do I what?" I asked.

"Have a secret lover."

I scoffed and rolled my eyes. "No," I replied. "I do not have a secret lover."

"Then why did you say that you did?"

"Because I was not expecting him at my house when he came over?" I asked. "And technically, I did not state that I had a secret lover."

"He did question you, though. Correct?"

"What does this have to do with anything?" I asked. "Yes, he had asked me if I had one."

Why was I even answering his questions? I did not know him.

I pursed my lips and took a sip of tea, and grew silent. I decided not to answer any other questions that he had because he did not need to know this.

As soon as I thought that, I felt as if I was released from something. It felt a bit easier to breathe, but there was something else wrong. However, I could not put a finger on it, not yet at least.

"What is your Beta's name?" Horus asked. He took a sip of his drink to hide the smile on his face.

I gave him a look that asked him if he was stupid. "I am the Beta," I replied because he already knew that the Viper and I were one and the same.

"The stand in Beta then," he said. "Who is the Beta while you are the Alpha?"

"Nunya," I replied. "That information is classified." I had a feeling he knew who my Beta was because of my grandmother.

Horus nodded. "Look at the table," he said.

"Why?"

He sighed. "Look at the table. What do you see?"

Hesitantly, I looked at the table and noticed that it was wood. However, something was different. There was something different about this table that I did not like.

"Well?" Horus asked gently while I studied the table until I realized what was wrong.

I could not see the actual grain that I normally did.

When I studied the table, I couldn't pick up each individual line like I should with a table like this. I could not see the specks or the grain.

I could not hear the outside world, and it was quiet, too quiet for my liking.

I could not smell any scents that lingered in the air.

Everything was dull, including my sense of touch.

Where was my wolf?

I couldn't feel her pacing in my mind or growling in annoyance. I couldn't even pick her presence up, and I knew that I wouldn't be able to shift.

"Well?" Horus asked, and I had a feeling that he knew I figured it out.

"What did you do to my wolf?" I asked.

"She is safe."

"Well?" I asked and raised an eyebrow. I was impatient and annoyed, but I knew better than to fight because I had a feeling that he was far powerful than just a blind, old man.

"Well, what?" he asked.

"Fix this," I replied.

"Fix what?"

I huffed. "Fix my wolf," I said. "Bring her back. Where is she?"

He shrugged. "She is still there," he replied. "I can not do anything to bring her back. However, you can."

I stared at him as if he was out of his damn mind.

"Close your eyes and sense her," he said. "Picture her and the powers that she possesses."

I huffed but closed my eyes. I tried to figure out the riddle he laid for me to get back my wolf, but I could do no such thing.

I made sure that I kept relaxed and not angry because I knew that it would not be possible for me to get her back that way.

I had to figure another way to get her back. I have to think outside of the norm, like breaking something down and outside of the box.

So, why not get her back through a door?

I pictured a door between her and me. I could feel the door under my hand and reach for the knob.

It couldn't be this easy, turning the knob and opening the door, but that was what I was going to do.

I could feel the cold brass doorknob under my hand and turned it until I heard the soft click and pushed it open.

Something jumped out from behind the door, and I shot forward and opened my eyes with a soft yet audible gasp.
