(Rhett Above)
I smiled in through the annoyance pumping in my system.
My heels were chewing on my poor toes, as I wobbled and desperately tried to stand straight. The dress that my forced fiancé had so kindly bought me, was two sizes two small, so my breathing was constricted as hell, and if his hand touched my ass again, one more time, hands will be thrown.
I dug my nails into Rhett's hand for the tenth time as I desperately tried to keep a smile on my face as we walked down the red carpet.
"You touch my ass again, and I'll cut into you like a cake. With no mercy and no restraint" I hiss through my smiling lips as the cameras flashed around us.
He winced as he smirked in my face, "calm down, my hand slipped" he flashed me an innocent look.
"You'll be real calm when my foot slips up your as-"
"Katrina and Rhett!" the soul shattering sound of my Mother's voice sliced through my comment.
We turned to find her dragging along my Dad who had a full platter of shrimp in one hand, as he shoved people aside.
How have they not been detained by an asylum yet?
I tried not to glare at my parents as they skipped up to us, like they hadn't pretty much sold me like a sheep to the highest bidder.
"Mother, Father" I state blandly as they come to a stop in front of us.
Mom rolls her eyes, while Dad pouts at me, "what climbed up your ass?" Dad snapped trying to hide his offense.
I glared at them, "oh forgive me, have I introduced my forced fiancé, the one you two have dictated I marry?"
They blink at me like I'm stupid, "duh, Katrina, we are the ones forcing you to marry him" my Mom states like I'm stupid.
Rhett coughs into his fist as he tries to hide his smile.
"It's called sarcasm" I sigh.
"I don't understand why you are like this Katrina, you should be thanking us for setting you up! I don't want to point out your track record or anything, but Lee turned out to be a psycho-maniac. And you got dumped by The Blake Dun, you really needed our help with this" my Mother said as she patted my arm.
The sad thing is, she really believes what she's saying.
.... And she's not completely, 100 percent, wrong.
However, in her own dark, dysfunctional world, I am happy she forced me to marry some random asshole.
I sigh in annoyance, "oh how will I ever repay you?"
"By getting pregnant by the end of the night. With twins. Oh look! Kalvin, I think theres cake" my parents head snapped like lions before they sprinted off into the crowd, shoving un-expecting victims out of their way.
Great, now I have a headache.
I glared up at Rhett, the embarrassment of my parents rushing through my body, "sorry about them".
He tries desperately to push down his smile, but amusement is clear in his eyes, "I bet they aren't always like that, its fine" he says with a shrug.
Oh, how wrong he really is.
"So where is this big boss of yours at, thats dying to meet boring old me?" I ask him as his lips tilt into a smirk.
"He should be here soon, until then, how about you grace me with a dance?" he asked his hand slowly gripping mine.
I snort, "I'm pretty sure there is a ban on me touching the dance floor".
His head tilted to the side in confusion, that amused smirk, still annoyingly stuck on his lips. "Why wouldn't a beautiful woman be allowed to grace this dance floor?"
Why did my heart just clench?
"Because this beautiful woman, caused a mild to large fire to break out last time she graced this particular dance floor. Theres a reason there are no open fires anymore" I sent him a mocking smile.
His lips broke into a huge grin, his perfect teeth nearly blinding me.
His hand grips mine harder, before I can even pull myself away, he has somehow maneuvered us into the dead center of the dance floor.
I blinked up at him in shock, hopefully he can't see the terror in my eyes as I sweep them over the rest of the people on the dance floor.
A few people see me and take ten steps back.
Smart.
I wince as I look back up at his face, why is he just staring at me like a creep?
He easily slides his hands around my waist, as he pushes mine around his neck. "Maybe we should check out that cake my parents were talking about, I'm serious, I'm pretty sure they have a sign or something with my name on it. I'm not allowed around these people" I hiss at him, my eyes shooting around looking for security.
"It couldn't have been that bad" he shakes me off.
As I watch him, watching me, I realize that he belongs here. He thrives in this environment, like I never could or ever will.
"The fire marshal walked up to me and just said 'how?' How. I won't even talk about the check we had to write" I wince as the memories hit me.
The flames were so big.
He snorts, "well, you're doing fine right now" he whispers as he continues to easily glide us around.
I wince, the nervous sweats washing over my body. I'm pretty sure my hands are sweating. I cringe as my foot steps on his, his face scrunching in pain.
"I'm not saying sorry. I told you so" I hiss up at him, as he tries to play the pain off.
He coughs trying to bypass his obvious pain, "uhh lets take your mind off of it, so I heard you dated Lee Don, huh?" he starts his eyes looking down at me.
Great, exactly what I want to talk about.
My horrible love life.
I sigh, "yes, I dated the psycho, who tried to destroy all super in a public display of power, and failed horribly, again publicly. He seems to be having a lot of fun in jail though" I snort as my eyes unconsciously roll. "But it should be stated that he only went completely crazy, after I broke up with him".
Rhett's deep chuckle vibrates through my body as our chest stick together, "I saw that video of you falling off the building, when the story broke the news. Never thought he'd throw you off the side of a building. It really is a miracle you survived, even more so that the villain of the century saved your life" he continued.
Definitely did not want to talk about this.
Ever again.
I force a smile on my face, "what can I say? Just horribly unlucky, I guess" I finish with a shrug.
"You and Blue Doom must have had a real connection for him to save you that day, he kidnapped you too, didn't he?"
"Yes. Yes. I had a plethora of terrible shit happen to me, all in the same time frame, when it rains it pours. Would you excuse me, I have to use the restroom" I quickly spit out as I yank myself out of his arms and sprint of off the dance floor.
Don't think about it.
Don't think about it.
Do not fucking think about -
I crashed, forehead first, into a wall like body, sending me stumbling backwards.
Two sturdy arms quickly snatched my waist, pushing my tilted body back upwards, my hands holding onto strong arms for dear life.
My eyes open.
And of course.
Can you fucking guess.
Two bright orbs of golden honey stare back down at me, his beautiful face peering down at me in utter confusion.
My chest lurched like someone was kicking me in my heart, over and over again. Pure dread rushed over my skin like water, as his handsome face looked down at me in confusion with a twinge of annoyance.
My hands unconsciously squeeze his arms tighter, as pure pain shattered through my soul.
Not now, why now?
My eyes burn as I stare at him, his brow set in annoyance, his head tilted to the side. His perfect lips tilted down in distaste as he looked over me.
Why?
I try to step back, but his grip on my waist only tightens, the confusion leaking more and more onto his face.
"What the fuck are we doing here?" he snaps, his eyes taking in my body, before darkening slightly, "and who the fuck are you dancing with?" he snaps again, his eyes shooting over my head, no doubt to Rhett.
I steal myself as I look up at him, "Blake, release me" I demand, trying to push down the wave of emotions that were pushing against my heart, and my mouth.
He pauses, "Blake? What the fuck is going on?"
"You need to get your hands off of me, right now" I hiss, he thinks he can get jealous when he chose that bitch over me.
Like I hadn't seen the fucking pictures of them around town, kissing and holding hands in the paper. How he hadn't heard of my own engagement was shocking however, but should it really be? He didn't care.
Not anymore.
His face sent me a mocking pout, "and what are you going to do? You belong to me, body and soul, now I'm going to ask one more time who the hell that is, touching you, and if you don't answer, I'm going to finger paint these walls with his blood" he snapped.
My eyes widened to saucers.
"B-blue?"
"You have three seconds, and perfect he's coming. Should I decapitate him or crush his skull?" Blue hissed.
Before I could even speak, we were descended on.
Rhett yanked me back so forcefully my arms almost popped out of socket. A perfectly manicured hand slid its way onto the top of Blue's chest.
Before my eyes, his glowing orbs seemed to dim, a small ring of ... grey, outlining the rim of his eyes.
What the fu-
"Baby, I was looking everywhere for you!" a voice like nails rattled me.
My head slowly turned to come face to face with Ira.
Gorgeous as ever, a beautiful deep red dress flowed from her body, her unending black hair was swept back into an elegant updo.
She was perfection.
She was everything I wasn't.
If it weren't for Rhett's arms wrapped around me, I would have crumbled to the floor, as I watched her latch onto Blue's side, his arm slowly wrapping around her waist, bringing them closer together.
A ... smile twitches onto his face.
Now I was shocked.
I'd seen Blue's range of emotions, and all the facial features that went with them.
The most diverse ones were from furious rage to annoyance, then he had the bored disgusted look, where his upper lips turned up and his eyes narrowed, and then the asshole amusement where both lips tipped up and he chuckled darkly as someone else's pain. Then we have the actual amusement, where something surprises him so much that deep chuckled bubble from his chest, his eyes light up with mischief and his lips, surprisingly pull back to reveal his straight teeth.
I'd seen the content Blue, the happy Blue, the amused Blue, and even the goofy Blue, but this, the man who was standing in front of me bearing his teeth in a strangled like smile, I had never seen.
And thank god, because he looked scary as shit.
"Dude, are you alright?" Rhett asked, concern lacing his voice as he stood behind me, one arm wrapped around me waist the other perched on my shoulder.
A show of ownership.
And any other time I would have shoved him away, but Blue's face was literally shocking me.
Blake's eyes shot to Rhett, hostility and hatred like I've never seen before flashed on his face before he seemed to collect himself and drain it all away, "why yes, everything is absolutely and utterly perfect! You must be Rhett, my dear friend Katrina, has told me so much about you" he smiled like he actually meant that.
What. The. Hell.
Rhett was tense behind me, but unfortunately I couldn't see his face, I just knew mine must have 'What the fuck' written on it.
Ira sent me a pitying look as her eyes looked up and down my body, "thats a lovely dress, Katrina, you look absolutely gorgeous" she smiled weakly, something akin to guilt shinning in her eyes.
My throat closed up, and it felt like the world was closing in.
She is exactly where I would kill to be right now.
Shut down.
She has the man I want, wrapped around her body.
Shut down.
She has the life I'd kill for.
Give up, she won.
That sinking feeling was pushing me, further and further within myself, that never-ending feeling of just giving up was suffocating me like someone was shoving it down my throat.
He never loved y-
'KATRINA!'
I jumped a foot in the air, my eyes wide and alert.
Who just screamed my name?
'Its me, Katrina, Rhett'
Both Ira and Blake were looking down at me in surprise, "Katrina? Are you okay?" Blake's voice is laced with a type of certain that has never, and I do mean never come my way. His hand reaches out to touch me, but Ira quickly snatches it back to her side, a small nervous giggle slipping from her lips.
But I cannot look away from Blue, Blue's concern for me has always been ... more or less aggravated. Don't get me wrong, you could tell he cared for me, was worried, but he's ... well he's Blue. His caring words when I tried to stand at the hospital was, 'try to stand and I'll break the other leg', 'if you don't take your pain meds, I'm going to shove them down your throat', 'I refuse to love a cripple, Katty, so I suggest you heal faster'.
Exactly.
Nice, but .... horribly violent and insensitive at the same time.
He can't help it, its how he shows he cares.
But this ... this was bordering on creepy.
"Are you okay?" I asked him flabbergasted.
He blinked.
I blinked.
"Well, it was so nice to meet the both of you, we must get together again" Rhett said quickly, before spinning he and I around and quickly moving us further and further away from the couple that made my chest burn with a pain, I don't think will ever disappear.
Rhett finally stopped us at the refreshments table, the tension was rolling off of him in waves.
Well, I have no idea what to say right now.
Rhett's hands closed into tight fists before he turned those steely grey eyes on me.
I winced, "so that was ... nice?". He just glared, "with a dash of awkward" I choked out.
His eyes just analyzed me as I twitched uncomfortably, "that was Blake Dun" he finally stated.
"He does go by that" I answer slowly, trying not to twitch uncontrollably under his harsh gaze.
"Your Mother did mention that you ... had relations with him. I just didn't well, believe it" he finished, his face still stony.
Did this bitch just?
Oh no.
Now it was my turn to glare.
My eyes narrowed into slits, "and why didn't you believe her? Am I not good enough for that prick?" I hiss over at him.
His eyes widened, almost comically, "w-wait, I-I did not say that" he stuttered as he put his hand up, like he was about to physically stop this verbal assault I was about to hand his ass.
"Oh? Because that is exactly what I heard, you did just say that I wasn't good enough for that asshole, so much so that you could never believe that he would actually date, ugly old me?" I snapped.
"N-no! I never said that! You are adding words a-and I'm not sure how this happened, because two seconds ago, I was mad at you a-and you've just- just twisted o-or I'm-I'm not really sure, what you did, but stop. Katrina, stop it" he struggled to spit out.
I was desperately trying to stop the smile from slipping onto my lips as Rhett desperately searched for the words to get back on track, and it was hysterical.
Don't laugh in his face.
Keep the glare, don't laugh in his face.
Suddenly, the distressed look on his face disappeared and he went stock still, "are you laughing at me?" he deadpanned.
I bust out laughing his face.
"You think this is funny? That 'prick' as you so eloquently put it, had his hands all over you" he snapped, his anger coming back full force.
I rolled my eyes, that strange feeling hitting my chest again, "Blake Dun and I did have something, but as you can see he's here with someone else. We are done" I finished, trying not to let that dead like feelings settle in my soul.
"I don't think your not good enough for Blake Dun, if anything he's not good enough for you, which is why I just didn't believe it" he finished his eyes staring intently into my own.
I tried not to look like I was crazy as I twitched slightly under his strong gaze.
Why was he trying to give me compliments?
And why do they make me feel so good?
"So, when did you tell me that your guy would get here?" I asked as I tried to stop the little smile on my lips.
He sighed, "actually he's here now, follow me", he sighed as he turned and started towards the main doors.
I easily followed behind me, my eyes sweeping over the room one last time, just as I was about to slip out, our eyes caught.
Blue deep in the throng of people, completely surrounded.
It was for a second, just a second that our eyes met in that crowded room, it was just us.
The electricity that sparked through my body as our eyes connected all the way across the room was insane.
Rhett's hand clasped around my wrist, pulling me out the door without a second thought, away from Blue.
"Why is he meeting us outside?" I asked, my arm still tight in Rhett's gasp.
"Why do you ask so many questions?"
"Maybe because its dark and you're dragging me outside and no offense, you sometimes give me shady vibes" I shrug.
He yanks me to an abrupt stop, right in front of a dense, dark forest.
He turns and looks down at me, before nodding towards the forest.
My eyebrows rise on my head, before I look towards the deep, dark, and eerie quiet forest of large trees, then back at Rhett's waiting face.
I slowly shake my head as I look back at Rhett, "not today. Nope, see what I mean about shady? This is strike two, I'm heading back inside" I finished before turning back to the entrance.
Rhett's large hand gripped my arm before turning me back around, "yes" he stated firmly as he looked down at me.
"Oh hell no. I'm not going in there. Its the very definition of dark as shit, if he wants to meet me, then tell him lets meet in a well lit and heavily crowded place ... like walmart. Till then, you can catch me another day" I snap up at Rhett.
"Don't be afraid, I won't let anything happen to you" he said, as his hand clamped onto mine, before he slowly started dragging me forwards.
I shook my head hard, "no, I want to live. This is the beginning of every murder, do you know how prone to death I am? Very! I don't need to give it a boost, and walking into a dark creepy forest with a slightly to mildly shady dude, is at the top of my 'don't fucking dare' list" I hiss over at him.
He paused as he chuckled in my face.
His mouth opening, only to be interrupted, "KATA!" a small voice shouted in delight, before a small figure came sprinting out and crashing into my legs.
"Zara?" what is she doing here? Alone in the forest?
"My papa finally came!" the excitement and happiness clear in her voice.
Suddenly, another figure materialized out of the forest, "nice to see you again, Katrina".
