"He's changed."

Daisy looked up from the chocolate cake batter she was happily making and up at Mrs Patel, who was grating cheese into an enormous pot of macaroni. After seeing the meal they were preparing for the inmates, she was more than eager to witness their reactions.

"Who has?" She asked.

Mrs Patel gave her a fond smile. "That Seth boy. I heard you and him have got a thing."

Blushing, Daisy ignored the teasing tone in her voice and replied, "w-what do you mean he's changed? I don't think so."

She waved her hand dismissively. "Oh please. That boy was trouble before you were here. There were regular fights and all sorts of negative energy brought into the prison, more than there should've been. He was very quiet but still caused chaos. Kind of like fire - silent but deadly."

"Seth's a fart." Daisy mumbled.

"What, pet?"

Startled out of her unusual thought, she shook her head and said quickly, "n-nothing. Carry on."

"Hm. Well, now he's such a sweetheart and he's actually smiling too. Maybe not to other people but with you, oh goodness, it just warms my heart. It's the little things he does that shows how much he loves you." She gushed, while hastily rushing around the kitchen to gather vegetables for her soup.

Daisy was disheartened to hear how miserable Seth had been but it put a smile on her face to know that now she was around, he was happier, even if it was a little bit. He was just a moody person in general and honestly, it was a part of his personality she wouldn't want him to change.

"Like what?" She asked her to elaborate.

Mrs Patel paused her actions briefly to think about her answer, before grinning widely and saying, "there's this cute thing I noticed when I would look to see where you are in the canteen."

This made Daisy a little emotional as she knew the dinner lady didn't do this to be creepy. She did this to make sure she was okay and she wasn't lying unconscious underneath the circular dinner tables next to the forgotten peas and chips. She wanted Daisy to be safe and the little girl had never felt such motherly care from a person, not even from her own flesh and blood.

"Oh why are you getting teary eyed already, pet? I've not even told you the cute part." Mrs Patel huffed and wiped the lone tear that had fallen out of her eye with a tissue.

She laughed off her awkward overreaction and shrugged. "I'm on my period."

"Oh no. That explains why you've been eating the left over chocolate every time you think I don't see. Don't forget, I can always sneak you some painkillers if you need them." The dinner lady replied sympathetically.

"Thank you, Mrs Patel." Daisy said as she sheepishly pushed the empty chocolate wrapper away from her.

"No worries, pet. Now, back to the story. After I see you and your Seth boy get food and then go to your little table at the back of the room, he always takes the first bite out of your food."

Daisy pouted in disappointment. "N-no, that's just because he's greedy."

Chuckling, Mrs Patel shook her head and said, "there was an incident a week before you arrived when most of the food was contaminated. Luckily, only one person got hurt and that was Linda, who usually helps me and that was why I needed the extra help. So, Seth tries your food first because he's testing to see if it's poisoned. He'd rather risk his own life than yours." She returned to making dinner nonchalantly as if she didn't just tell Daisy that not only was there risk of food being poisoned, but that she also had a personal food tester that put his life on the line three times a day just for her.

"He'd die for me?" She breathed out in shock.

Yep. Definitely falling in love with him.

"I think it's pretty obvious that boy cares about you a lot, Daisy. Now, enough about that. Stir this macaroni for me please."

Because the prisoners had been loving Daisy's desserts, dinner times had become increasingly chaotic, especially during the beginning as everybody rushed to get the first pick. So when Mrs Patel spoke of her struggle, she gladly offered her help in serving.

Daisy liked seeing the barely contained delight when the inmates received their slice of chocolate cake. Hardly any of them would thank her but they didn't need to for her to see the gratitude. They were also much nicer to her now because of her cooking and barely any showed rudeness towards her.

"Enjoy!" she said cheerfully, showing she was definitely more relaxed in prison.

The elderly looking man looked at the cake she put on his tray and appeared to salivate at the sight of it. He flashed her a toothless grin before joyfully walking away.

Next was a man with fading green hair and she recognised him from the time he refused a brownie while everybody else fought for them. She later found out he was allergic to chocolate so when she presented a small carrot cake, he looked genuinely surprised.

"I-I heard you're a-allergic to chocolate so I made you c-carrot cake." She said as she shyly held the plate of dessert to him, feeling incredibly stupid with the way he was staring incredulously at her.

But then he masked his expression with annoyance, saying, "don't want it."

Without her control, her face dropped and her head fell with disappointment. Daisy went to retract the plate before embarrassment filled her even more but before she could, a hand snatched it away.

Seth shoved the plate into the green haired guy's chest and growled out, "eat the f*cking cake."

The guy speed walked away from Seth's glaring eyes, while holding tightly onto the cake, much to Daisy's satisfaction. "Hi." She said, now used to his bad temper.

"Hello, Angel. What have you made for us today?" He asked with a charming smile that made her heart flutter.

"Chocolate cake." Daisy cut out a larger slice for him, hoping that nobody noticed her favouritism.

"Thanks. You nearly done?" He asked. When she nodded, he said, "I'll wait for you at the table."

She served a few more people but as the line began to die down, Mrs Patel said she could leave whenever she wanted. Not wanting Seth to wait too long, she decided to serve Owen first before putting her apron away.

Her old cellmate walked in front of her with the same nervous look he always had whenever other prisoners were around. She waved at him and gave him the slice of chocolate cake, visibly lifting his mood as he thanked her.

Seeing that nobody was waiting behind him, she thought they could talk. She hadn't talked to him in a while considering Seth and his friends hated him and vice versa. "H-how are you?" She asked.

"Great. Been enjoying your cooking." He complimented, which was rare of him.

Her cheeks heated as she replied, "Mrs Patel does most of it."

"Don't be so modest, Daisy. I'll see you around." He said.

"See you later." She waved, before going back into the kitchen to hang up her apron.

Seth was being cranky when she arrived at their table with her tray of food. Though, she knew he wasn't too angry with her when he still ate a bite out of her macaroni and her cake. She appreciated it but it didn't mean she wasn't sad to see her food go.

They ate their food in silence and while her eyes wondered around the canteen as she ate, she saw out of the corner of her eye that he was putting some of his food onto her plate.

"W-what are you doing?" She asked.

"Eat up." Was all he said.

She mentally shrugged and continued to eat as he sulked beside her for a reason unknown to her. After, they went to the common room and Seth made himself comfortable on the couch that nobody else seemed to use anymore. He grabbed the book she hid under the pillow. "C'mere," he said, patting his knee casually.

Smiling, she cuddled into his chest and took the book from him to find the place she had last read. "What's wrong?" She asked him, unable to just ignore his sour mood.

"Just didn't realise you were still friends with Shaky." He grumbled.

"Oh. Well, he was the first person I met here." She reasoned, looked up at him.

He still had a grumpy pout, causing Daisy to have to stifle a giggle. But just to make him smile, she pecked his lips. She was less shy about kissing him now but it was just as exciting every time.

Seth chuckled and then kissed her again, deepening it further. "Aren't you adorable." He said, stroking her pink cheeks.

Daisy tucked her face under his chin, nuzzling into his soft Seth-scented sweatshirt. "It's so cold." She muttered when a shiver ran through her.

"Yeah. It's snowing outside."

She gasped and went to look out of the barred window but accidentally bumped her head to on Seth's chin. He let out a pained grunt while she was too excited to acknowledge the injury. "Goodness! It is snowing!" Daisy squealed, wiggling around with eagerness.

Seth held her hips firmly to stop her from moving and then tenderly rubbing the top of her head that hit his chin, checking for bumps. "You act like you've never seen snow before."

Her lips pursed in suppressed sadness before saying, "we didn't get snow a lot where we lived and if it did, I-I wasn't allowed to go outside and play in it."

He furrowed his eyebrows. "Why not?"

"It wasn't lady like apparently." She shrugged, remembering when her mother would sneer at the little children that would play in the snow. "B-but when there were the rare times I was feeling particularly brave, I w-would sneak out for five minutes to gather some snow in a cup and bring it back to my room." I was a rebel back then.

Fingers grazed her cheek softly. "That's sad."

"Can we go outside now?" Daisy asked him with widened green eyes.

She gave him her best pleading expression and even placed feather-like kisses on his jaw a couple of times to coax him into agreeing, knowing it was his weakness. Yet, he couldn't agree anyway. "I'm sorry, Angel, but they don't let anybody out when it's snowing. It's dangerous. Stuff happened last year and it got messy." He explained but it didn't lessen Daisy's sorrow.

Her shoulders slumped as she sadly rested her head back on Seth's chest, staring wistfully at the snow falling outside that now coated the yard. "Really?" She whispered.

She felt his large hand cover her entire head, holding her close to him in comfort. "Yeah. I'm sorry, Daisy."

"That's ok." She gave a defeated sigh and opened the forgotten book back up again.

"Oh by the way, I have to go outside later because I've got a clean up job. They always get a group to shovel the snow after break." Seth told her.

"Wait, you get to go outside?" She questioned.

"Yeah but it's not like we're playing around making snow angels."

By telling her this information, Daisy had no idea why he didn't expect her to want to go outside and beg him until he agreed. In all the time she had spent in the prison, most of it was indoors and there was only a handful of times Seth deemed it warm enough for them to spend their break time in the yard. She was starting the feel enclosed in the small building and despite being trapped in every sense of the word, she didn't want to feel trapped.

After much persuasion from Daisy and hesitance from Seth, he finally gave into her persistence and said he'd talk to one of the prison officers about adding her to the team. A lot of them liked her anyway so it wouldn't be difficult.

"It's going to be freezing and they won't give you extra clothing so I'm going to get some from a person I know. You have to wear everything I give you with no arguments." He ordered.

His authoritative voice automatically made her respond with, "yes, sir."

"Don't be cheeky now." He said, tapping her nose. "I don't want you getting a cold." He's so sweet! "You'll only give me a cold."

She glared at him with a pout, which of course, he quickly made disappear.

Daisy put on the last pair of socks her cellmate had forced her to wear. Although reluctant at first, she was much more welcome to the idea when Seth warned her that her toes could freeze and fall off in the cold.

"You ready?" He asked, giving her a once over. He pulled her sweatshirts down before nodding in satisfaction.

"I think this may be too much." She said as she demonstrated her arms struggling to move.

Seth looked her over again but eventually shook his head with absolute certainty. "Nonsense."

"I'm kind of struggling to b-breathe." She was sure that he had taken the prison's entire extra supply of clothes. Despite the frosty air blowing heavily through the window in the cell, Daisy was sweating profusely and she was sure that her five layers of clothing would soon show sweat patches.

"Fine, you can take one off." He said, rolling his eyes and assisted her in taking a layer off.

Once it was time, a prison officer came and collected them. Hand in hand, they walked past the jealous inmates that wished for some fresh air. Though if the height didn't give it away, they probably didn't realise who she was as Daisy felt she was disguised pretty well in all the material she was under.

As soon as the doors opened to the outside, a blast of cold air hit them. She mentally thanked Seth for forcing the layers onto her but when her shoes touched the white snow, she forgot all about the goosebumps forming on her skin.

Daisy stared at the falling snow in awe, having never been so close to so much of it. A layer of snow had coated the tops of the walls. It concealed the grass and concrete, glistening as the Sun's rays hit the floor. "It looks like tiny crystals." She whispered.

"You cold?" He sounded concerned but Daisy paid no attention as she carefully crouched down, smiling as her fingers touched the cold snow.

"Oi! You're here to work." A prison officer suddenly yelled from across the yard, which caused her to hit the ground, bottom first.

A husky laugh reached her ears when Seth helped her to her feet and wiped the snow off her. "Let's go grab a shovel, clumsy."

Levi and Nate were already shovelling the snow away from pathways when they arrived. A guard she hadn't seen before was supervising them but he was mainly playing on his phone from what she could tell.

Although it was hard work, Daisy was enjoying herself quite a lot, especially in the company of her friends and with the snow lightly falling on top of them.

"You doing ok?" Seth asked.

He hugged some warmth into her skin, which she appreciated considering her face was feeling numb from the cold but the smile still hadn't left her face since seeing the winter wonderland.

"This is the happiest I've ever been." She admitted quietly.

He shivered as Daisy rubbed her ice cold nose on his neck, attempting to reduce the redness and look less like Rudolph. "I think you'll be happier in a few seconds."

"Huh?"

"Angel," he began to say, while carefully getting out a small, slightly crushed daisy out of his pocket. "I found this over there and I thought you'd like it because... well, your name is Daisy so you should like it."

She couldn't hide the beaming smile on her face even if she tried, which she didn't because she wanted him to know how much the small gesture meant to her.

Daisy could tell he didn't do romantic gestures often because the redness on his cheeks wasn't just from the cold but she didn't comment on it to spare him from further embarrassment.

She delicately took the broken flower him and cradled it delicately in her palm. "Thank you."

Seth ran his inked fingers through his hair, a nervous habit she had caught him doing in some occasions. "You see the thing is, I heard that when you ask someone to be your significant other, you're supposed to give them flowers."

Am I going to die? Why is my heart beating so fast? I think I'm a little faint.

"So, now that I've done that..."

Daisy's breathing stopped when his hand lovingly held her face and stared at her with adoration, while her heart was beating ten times faster than it should've been.

"...will you be my girlfriend?"

She giggled. Her hands went to cover her mouth but her laughs still escaped, much to Seth's disbelief.

"Why the f*ck are you laughing?" He frowned at her with concealed hurt.

"I'm sorry. I'm so sorry. I just laugh at serious situations and I can't help it." Daisy stroked his cheek, still struggling to contain her laughter. "But, yes. If you still want me, I'll be your girlfriend." She said shyly.

Seth grinned widely, more than he ever had before and enveloped her in bone-crushing hug. "I'll always want you." He said while Daisy inhaled his scent, feeling just as ecstatic as he sounded. "I l- "

"GET BACK TO WORK!"

The couple sighed at the interruption from the irate prison officer and pulled away from each other.

"What were you going to say?" Daisy asked with a smile, not letting the rude man ruin her mood.

"It's nothing."
