A/N: As usual, I would recommend putting the video on loop.
With breakfast finished, Tarhuinn led her out of the room and guided her to the washroom for her clothes. She had merely set them in the space while he set his in another pile. He mentioned that they would get to them later in the day. Afterwards, he guided her to the kitchen where they both washed their dishes. Like the washroom, it looked pretty similar to her past home's kitchen. Granted, throughout all of the rooms were water paths for Tarhuinn while there were ground paths for her.
This was another peculiar detail about the house. The two different paths made it seem like it was common for a human to be with his kind. She didn't ask him if this was the case, but she would store the curiosity away. "So, where to next?" she questioned after the dishes were cleaned, dry and put away.
"I'll take you to the farming area, and you can see what a grapefruit is," he mentioned, chuckling towards the end.
She pouted some and crossed her arms over her. "No need to make fun of me for it," she mumbled, following him out of the room and down the hallway again.
"I wasn't making fun. I thought that your reaction was cute."
A light dash of heat invaded her cheeks, but she was just happy that she didn't have to make eye contact with him. So, she could stick out her tongue without him noticing. She giggled quietly to herself when she completed the action successfully.
Soon, they reached an archway, and she walked past him and peeked into the area beyond. The room was huge. It was about half the size of her small village. She whistled some, noting that not only were there various plants but also there were chickens, a rooster, rabbits and goats. "How do you manage to take care of all of this?" she asked in wonder, going over to the rabbit pen and crouching down to pet a short-haired grey one.
"Before I took my bath this morning, I had woken up a few hours before and came to tend to all of this. It's quite easy when you've been working this for most of your life. Of course, the first couple of years weren't easy. That's to be expected, however, when you're only two."
Her hand froze as she glanced over to him in shock. "You were only two when you were handed all of this?! What kind of two year old were you?!"
Laughing some, he walked over to her and took a seat beside her. He picked up the bunny that she had been petting and set it on his lap. While he petted its ears, he explained, "For my kind, we mature very quickly. After a few months, we're able to speak. At the age of one, we're already helping our parents with chores around the house. When we're one and a half, we are taught reading and writing. Once at two, we take care of everything in the household."
Mouth agape, she couldn't believe what she was hearing. She couldn't even really remember what she did as a two year old, yet here he was running a miniature farm. "I j-just don't k-know what to s-say. I'm impressed," she spoke, shock causing her to stutter some. "What about your parents?"
He placed the bunny back in the pen and stood up, holding out his right hand to her. She took it, and she was brought to her feet. Was this another question that she wasn't supposed to ask? Tarhuinn met her gaze. "They passed away after I turned two."
There was something in his gaze that unsettled her some. Yes, there was a hint of sadness in his dark blue eyes, but he was completely calm at the same time as though he expected them to die when he turned that age. His hand suddenly felt unwelcoming, and she went to pull away from him. She attempted to take a step back, but he held onto her. "(F/n), there's no need to worry. My parents' death was a hardship for me to deal with, but I learned to move on. I apologize if my tone sounded odd given the topic. I didn't mean to frighten you. Please, forgive me."
Tarhuinn dipped his head a little, and she relaxed. His last statement sounded more like a command, yet her mind dispelled such a thought. Instead, she felt her heart skip a beat. Steadily, she took a few steps towards him and, hesitantly, placed her right hand on his cheek. "It's alright. I ... overreacted." She really did hope that was the case.
Looking up, he locked his gaze with hers, and she felt heat invade her cheeks. She went to pull her hand away from his face, but he reached up and held it there. "That's very kind of you to say. Thank you, (f/n)," he whispered out, moving his lips closer to hers.
If certain travelers told the truth about those legendary volcanoes, her face certainly felt like one. Swiftly, she moved her head back. "Weren't you going to show me those grapefruits," she chuckled out nervously. It felt like her heart might beat out of her chest.
Stopping, he quirked an eyebrow and smirked slightly. "Yes, I believe that I was going to do that." He stood back up fully and released his hold on her. "Follow me," he mentioned while she mentally breathed a sigh of relief.
Catching up to him, she noted that they halted soon after. In front of her was a massive tree with large green leaves. He pointed to some of the yellow fruits. "When you cut one open, you'll see a very light pink color inside. These are white grapefruits. There are also pink and red ones as well."
(F/n) peered up at the tree and noticed how they were clustered together. "I guess that I can understand why they're called grapefruit now," she muttered before her eyes turned to one of the light sources for the room. A window was carved into the stone wall.
This brought intrigue to her since she didn't exactly know where she was. She understood that this was his home, but that didn't answer the location of it. (F/n) walked around him and headed towards it. When she reached it, she saw the latch. "Can I open this?"
Coming up beside her, he leaned against the wall and nodded. Excitement brewed up inside her as she undid the latch and opened up the circular window. A cool breeze greeted her, but it was the breathtaking view that captured her attention. They were in the mountains near to her village. The ruins blocked passage to them, and she now knew why. The mountains were his kind's home. It was understandable that they wouldn't wish for intruders.
Resting her arms on the window's ledge, she let the cool breeze blow against her face while her eyes watched the grey storm clouds roll overhead. Some light shone through and highlighted a massive lake at the base of the mountains. The breeze blew in the smell of pine. She wished to just rest there since it was so soothing.
Once she stepped back from the stunning view, she glanced up and noted windows in the ceiling. She could spot more clouds. It looked like it would rain soon. "How often does the rain come here?" she asked, closing the window.
"About six times a week. That's why we're able to have so much water flow through these mountains, and why we're able to inhabit it."
"I'm guessing that it would be too much to ask to go outside and walk around."
"Correct. Like before, you're to remain only in my home."
"I thought so," she sighed out before continuing, "but are you going to tell me about this chosen business, or is there still more to this tour?"
"There's just the library, and we'll discuss that matter there. Come along," he voiced, pushing himself off of the wall and exiting the growing area with her.
Trailing behind him a little, she thought back to the view outside of the window. If she could, she would love to explore that terrain. Having been locked in a single room for most of her life caused her to want adventure if she could ever get out. She thought that talking to the male in front of her would allow that, but she was now locked in a home. At least, the window wasn't boarded up, and she had quite a bit of space to move around in.
Arriving at the library, they walked under the archway and headed into a circular room. Books covered the walls while a desk was in the center of the room. A wooden chair rested behind it as two others were in front. Above was a large circular window. Due to the clouds above, a lantern rested on the table for better light in the room. Tarhuinn took a seat in the chair behind the desk.
After she took a seat across from him, she observed him lean forward and intertwine his fingers. "The concept of the chosen for my kind is a simple one, but heavy responsibility comes with it as does with most important roles. I'll start off with the basic meaning behind it, however. Our chosens are our mates."
