His Happiest Memory - Part 3
A tall and beautiful lady carrying a sleeping girl looked down at two children of six or seven with mild curiosity.
Killian looked at the woman, "I've never seen you before."
Norian came over to stand by his mother. He patted his little sister's head, "Lorali is getting prettier every day." He looked over to Killian, "Where are you from, little boy?"
"The countryside." Killian said quickly, he squeezed Cy's hand. The little girl at his side smiled up at the lady, "My mom and dad are waiting for us." She turned around and pulled the Killian away. She waved at the mother and son in the courtyard, "Bye, scary lady and her scary son!"
Lady Celia's smile seemed frozen on her face, Norian just smiled and waved back.
"Did you see?" Lady Celia asked quietly. Norian nodded, "His clothes are of the palace but, I've never seen any servant as poorly dressed as he."
Lady Celia frowned, "He bears a striking resemblance to... no it couldn't be. That child has eyes as red as blood. I saw them myself the day he was born." She muttered to herself looking worried.
Her son was an illegitamate child of the king, but with their magic, Norian taking the throne would be a matter of time.
But what if the eldest prince had been cured? She dared not to think of that possiblity. Would the king, who was said to love that spawn's mother more than any other woman, allow that cursed spawn back onto the throne? Lady Celia felt fear claw at her insides.
Norian looked at his mother's expression and offered, "Let's kill them."
He smiled, "The cloak had my magic on it, it'll be easy to follow."
Lady Celia breathed a sigh of relief and patted the boy, "Then, I'll have my men do it, all you have to do tonight is enjoy the festivities." The boy smiled, "Thank you, mother."
Killian and Cy walked until they found a road that lead to a side door of the palace.
Cy shuddered. Her face was turning paler and paler. Killian noticed and took the cloak, "What's wrong?"
She frowned, "I don't know. I feel...dizzy."
Suddenly she fell down. Killian yelped and tried to catch her.
He dragged the little girl to a bench and took out a flask of water from his pouch. Her skin was becoming paler and paler. Killian took a few deep breathes to try and calm himself down.
Cy woke up and smiled, "Sorry, I got really tired. I do that sometimes." Then a horrified look came to her eyes.
Killian's heart lurched as the little girl pushed him away.
A sword cut through the air between them, and a voice grunted in dissatisfaction. Cy was thrown to the ground and she did not move.
Three men appeared. They grinned as they looked at the two little children and pointed swords in their directions, the swords glowed with magic.
Killian stood up, in his hands two balls of fire appeared. He didn't have time to deal with this now, he had to go check on Cy.
Their smiled died on their lips as they felt the heat of his power. But before they had a chance to scream, they turned to dust.
Killian looked around, confused. He hadn't even attacked yet.
A ring of green magic appeared and encased them in a clear, green bubble. Killian and Cy disappeared from the outside world.
Killian turned to look for whoever had attacked the men.
He found that a woman now held Cy.
Cybelline, you have played too long here. It's time to go home. A voice that was both rich and melodic sounded behind him. She was dressed in green robe, holding the little girl, who had fainted. The woman in the green robe had pale golden hair and light jade eyes. It was impossible to see how old the woman was, but she was very beautiful. Concern shone through her eyes as she gently patted the girl.
"Let go of her!" Killian cried, he threw the balls of fire at the lady in green. Was she someone who had come to kill them too?
She raised her finger and the balls of flame disappeared.
You are strong. But not strong enough. At the sound of her voice, he fell to his knees and coughed blood. He glared at the woman and tried to stand again. Cy groaned and the woman's attention was drawn back to the little girl.
She has used too much power here. Then she looked at him, You. She said accusingly, You stole her power. You forced her to help you didn't you?
Killian felt as if someone was pressing on his brain. He gritted his teeth and tried to stand up. He would not die today.
"Grandma, is that you?" A voice, soft and weak voice sounded. The woman placed her hands over Cy's head, green light shone and the little girl looked better almost immediately.
Cy opened her eyes wider and looked around, "Why is he on the ground?" She struggled down from her grandmother's lap walked over to the boy.
Killian felt the pain stop and he gasped for air. A warm hand patted his face, "You're okay." She said as she wiped away a drop of the blood from his lips. He felt immediately better when she was by his side.
The woman in green looked down at the boy, Cybelline, come back her this instant.
Cy was pulled back into the older woman's arms. Cy looked up at the woman, "Grandma, what are you doing here?"
The woman in green sighed, Silly child, only you would come to a world that you are not yet ready for. Befriend a boy that you should have never met.
"I like him." Cybelline said seriously. She looked at Killian, "You're my wife."
The boy frowned but after a moment, he nodded.
Her words were like a seed that buried itself deep into his heart, it would live and grow there for as long as he lived. She was a little crazy, to be sure, but she had held his hand.
"I'm her wife." Killian said with all the seriousness he could muster. Wait, what did he just say? No, he meant husband! He opened his mouth to correct it.
The woman glanced at Killian who once again, had trouble breathing. Cybelline frowned, "What's wrong, Killian?" She struggled in the woman's arms. Killian felt the pressure lift again and he sat up.
The woman sighed, Cybelline, you must go back now. you've done untold damage to your body. If you don't be a good girl and return home, I will be very angry.
"Is mama and dad angry too?" Cy said distracted for the moment, "I don't know why they didn't come with me. We were all in that car together. Why am I here alone? Where are they?"
The woman looked sad for a moment and then she smiled, I'll tell you later. She promised
"She can stay with me." Killian said suddenly, he stood up with effort, "I can take care of her."
Little boy, you can not take care even of yourself. The woman said coldly. Those men came after you and if not for my Cybelline, you would have died.
He looked down as she continued.
"I can protect her." He said stubbornly.
The lady in green only smiled mockingly at his words. Killian's hands curled into fists. He knew that it was an empty promise right now. Cy's face began to turn pale again, "My head hurts." She said in a small voice, her face pinched in pain.
She is not well, we must go. The woman said. She can not survive in this world. Not like this.
Cy looked at Killian and waved, "Once I get better, I'll come find you again!"
He didn't argue anymore, instead he gave her a nodd, "I'll wait."
"Okay!" Cy grinned, "Don't marry anyone else until I come back. I promise I'll come back, I won't forget!"
Yes. You will. The woman said gently and touched the little girl's forehead. Cy went immediately to sleep. The woman looked at Killian, Young one, you should forget her. Nothing good will come of you two meeting again.
"No." He said and clenched his fists but found that he was powerless and immobile. The green robed woman did not spare him another glance. Instead she did an intricate motion with her hands, and they disappeared.
Everything returned to normal. The green light gone and so was the child whose smile was brighter than the sun. Who held his hand and looked at him as if he mattered.
Killian closed his eyes.
Wait for me. Killian promised, I'll become strong enough to protect you.
When he opened his eyes, unbeknownst to him, they had once again changed color, from black to a brilliant shade of green.
The green he would never forget.
That night, a child of seven, the eldest prince of Londaros walked out of the palace and headed for a new life.
He would never forget the knight who rescued him from his tower and promised to be his forever.
