EDITED: 21st March 2019.

1 month later.

Brooklyn.

I knocked on the door of my old house and after a minute, it opened revealing my mom. My arms were linked with Devin's and she looked surprised but happy to see me.

Her gaze then shifted to Devin and she smiled at him but not before squealing and hugging me tightly right on the porch. I chuckled hugging her back. When I pulled away, she ushered us inside and Devin wrapped his arm around my waist.

We sat in the living room and she wiggled her eyebrows at me, "So who is this fine gentleman?" She asked and I blushed.

Devin took the chance to introduce himself, "I am Devin. Brooklyn's boyfriend." He said and I noticed how he didn't tell his first name. But it didn't matter. So instead I squeezed his hand in a way to let him know it was okay.

My mother gasped before darting her eyes between us, "Oh my. Is this what kept you occupied all these months Brooklyn?" She asked and I nodded, "Yeah. Kind of."

She smiled, "Finally. I thought you were going to die single." She said sighing in relief. Devin chuckled beside.

"Well, we can talk more over dinner. I made steak. You like steak Devin, don't you?" She said and he nodded. She grinned once again and we followed her to the dining table.

Devin sat on one of the chairs and I moved to help my mother serve but she shook her, "No dearie, I have got it. You sit. Talk to your lovely man. I'll just grab some wine and be right back." She said and I blushed red but nonetheless sat beside Devin.

He smirked at me and leaned in to whisper in my ear, "Your mother seems nice." He placed a kiss right under my earlobe making me shiver.

My mother entered the room just as Devin leaned back and gave me a knowing look. She sat opposite us. "Let's eat, shall we?"

---

We were eating lunch, my mom and Devin making small talk every now and then. I placed my fork down and looked at my mother,

"How is Seb's college going?" I asked her and she smiled, "It's going good. Well, at least that's what he tells me whenever I call," She chuckled a little before continuing, "He asked about you but I told him you found a place of your own since I didn't how else to describe the situation to him." She said and then gave me a questioning look,

"What actually happened?" She asked and I looked at Devin nervously, "Nothing, I was in a problem with some people and Devin helped me, gave me a place to stay and we just clicked." I said. It was half-true. She seemed convinced enough as she nodded and resumed eating.

I sighed under my breath and Devin grabbed my thigh under the table giving it a squeeze as if to say 'Thank you'. I looked at him and smiled.

My mother didn't know about Devin being the mafia boss of the biggest mafia gang in the world and she didn't need to. I didn't want to tell her because frankly the little she knows the better. I didn't want to involve her in this lifestyle.

Mom looked at Devin again and chewed her bite before asking, "So what do you for a living?"

I tensed but Devin seemed relaxed, "I own a few companies all over the USA and other countries." He said.

I am so dumb. How could I forget? He was a billionaire as well.

She nodded before winking at me and clearing her throat, "So Brooklyn your uncle was asking about you." She said and I smiled at the mention of him.

"How is he?" I asked, "He is fine. Found himself a good woman. Let's just hope it works this time." She said and I nodded.

The rest of our lunch was eaten in comfortable silence.

---

"Take care mom, I'll keep calling," I said as we stood near the door and she smiled, hugging me. While hugging me, she leaned in and whispered in my ear, "I approve of him."

I pulled away and grinned at her. She grinned right back and gave Devin a short hug as well. We walked out the door and into the car.

Devin started driving and we made small talk during the drive. When we passed the road of our home I looked at Devin questionably, "Where are we going?"

He just glanced at me and gave me his signature smirk, "You'll see."

---

We have been walking for a few minutes and Devin had told me to keep my eyes closed. It gave me a sense of Deja vu. I sighed in annoyance, "How long Devin?" I asked.

"We're here. Open your eyes, love." He said and I opened them, gasping at the view.

It was a 2 story beach house, it's windows made of glass. A small wooden staircase led to the first story where there was an open patio space. 2 beach chairs were placed with an umbrella in the middle.

(imagine that their house is the only one on the whole beach)

"Do you like it?" He seemed nervous somehow.

"Like? I love it!" I said and he smiled.

"Did you rent it?" I ask still in awe of the place.

"No, I bought it for us." He said so casually and my mouth dropped open.

"Y-you mean it's yours?" I stutter.

"Not mine baby girl, ours." He said and my heart fluttered.

"Now come on, let me give you a tour of the house." He said intertwining our fingers and descended us upon the steps.

---

Devin just finished giving me a tour of the whole place, apparently, the interior was also fully furnished with modern furniture but he said that if I wanted to change anything I could.

It was beautiful indeed. But I needed him to know my gratitude.

"Thank you, Devin. You didn't have to buy it though." I said and he hushed me by pecking my lips.

"I wanted to but I haven't shown you the main part yet." He whispered, his minty breath fanning against my face.

He intertwined our hands again, which I noticed he liked to do a lot and guided me a little further down the beach. In the whole place, I hadn't seen a single house or human except me and Devin making me wonder if he bought the beach as well.

I quickly dismissed the thought. Of course, he did.

Devin suddenly stopped walking and I looked in front of me only to gasp again. The setup was breathtaking.

Devin sure did a lot of planning.

There was a path of rose petals trailing to a table with 2 chairs. Lanterns were on either side of the path making it more bright. On the middle of the table was another medium-sized lantern and small rose petals. All in all, it was amazing.

"Wow," I whispered and Devin smiled at me. With our hands intertwined we walked to the table. Devin pulled the chair for me and said cheekily, "My lady." He bowed for a dramatic effect and I giggled.

I sat and he pushed my chair in before walking to his own. Two dishes were covered and kept on the table. I wasn't that hungry but the aroma of lasagna made my stomach growl and Devin chuckled.

"Dig in love!"

That was all it took for me to start eating like a hungry beast.

---

I burped loudly catching Devin's attention and he chuckled, wiping his mouth with a napkin. He then stood up and walked to me before giving me a hand.

I looked at it questionably and he motioned for me to put my hand in his. I did so and stood up as well and then it happened. It. Happened. He bent down on one knee, rubbed my knuckles and began,

"Brooklyn...I know we haven't known each other for long but in the small period of time I have known you, you have made me fall undeniably and uncontrollably in love with you. You make me feel good, you make me try to be better. You found the good in me. I thought I was heartless, that I couldn't feel anything except anger but you showed me that it wasn't so. You made my heart race, you made my lips smile, you made me laugh, you made my eyes sparkle and you made me fall in love with you. I love you, I love you, God I love you. I can't say it enough. And I know this may seem rushed but will you marry me? Will you do the honor of becoming my wife? We don't have to get married right away, I'll wait for you. Even if it's for months, year---

"YES! YES I'LL MARRY YOU!" I yelled in happiness cutting him off and he looked shocked but nonetheless grinned at me.

Tears streamed down my face as he pulled out a square box from his pocket and took out the ring, slipping it on my ring finger.

I bought my hand closer and examined the ring. It was mesmerizing. I was glad he didn't overdo it. I would be happy with a simple gold ring too because at the end of the day the ring doesn't matter but the thought put into it does.

Devin stood up from the ground and cupped my face, taking my lips into a soft kiss. It wasn't fast, rough or lustful. No, this kiss was filled with love and warmth. As if he was telling me everything through this one kiss.

He pulled away when I was out of breath and rested his forehead against mine. I panted and gazed into his eyes as he grabbed my hand and looked at the ring on my finger.

"It looks even more beautiful on your fingers."
