"Rei." The man walking towards us looked like an aged version of Landon. Blonde hair and dark blue eyes.

"Vasily." Carter place his hand into Vasily' outstretched one.

"Good to see you, who is this little one?" He smiled down at Beau.

"Beau, and this is my sister Ava." Carter gestured between the two of us. "Ava, this is Vasily. Landon's father."

"It's a pleasure to meet you, I've heard much about you." Vasily offered his hand to me.

"It's a pleasure." I shook his hand.

"Ava, how are you?" Landon pulled me into a tight embrace.

"Good, thank you." I laughed, patting his back awkwardly.

"Rei." Vasily gestured for Carter to sit at the head of the table.

"Ava, please sit." Vasily gestured to the seat closest to Carters.

The women at the table gasped as I sat, I frowned at the action and stared at Carter for any explanation but he only smiled in reply.

"Kai." I whispered and patted the free space next to me as he was about to walk off somewhere else.

"Rei, would you like me to get a high chair for-"

"No." He dismissed the person before he could even finish the sentence.

Carter and Vasily engaged in conversation, speaking in a language I assumed was Russian.

I leaned into Kai's side and asked why everyone else was staring.

"The women of the families never sit with the men. See the five families are old school. Women are always put to the back, that is why they all freaked when you were given a seat to sit on the men's side of the table." He explained in a hush tone. "Heck, if it weren't for you I'd be sitting with the women just like Landon. You're the first female I've ever seen sit this close to the head of the table."

"If Landon is their family heir, why is he sitting down there?"

"Landon is their family heir yes, but as of right now, he is nothing. Just like the women in this family."

"Why am I here? I don't have any title, I shouldn't be sitting anywhere near the head of the table." I replied after giving the waiter my order.

"And yet, you're the one tying the top three mafias together by blood." He smirked. "Lets not forget that boyfriend of yours."

"Hush." I screwed his ear and kicked his leg under the table.

"Jeez woman." He murmured under his breath.

Beau was a little disappointed that there weren't any other kids but she soon got over it once Carter gave her one of his many phones to play on. She giggled now and again, catching the attention of others.

"Mummy, can I have ice cream after dinner?" She pleaded.

"Shes your daughter?" Vasily asked, staring from Beau to me.

"Nohhhh, Mummy isn't my real mummy." She smiled sheepishly from her coloring paper the waiters had given her. "But I wish she was."

I smiled at her way of explaining, I think Beau has always had a clear understanding that I was never her real mother. She just looked up to me as a mother figure.

"Then who's kid is she?" Vasily asked.

"No ones you need to worry about, let's eat." Carter shut down any questions I saw in everyone's eyes.

Everything Carter said, went exactly how he wanted. He had everyone pinned under his thumb, he showed no emotion as he spoke to Vasily but as soon as Beau or I interacted with him, it was like a switch flipped on and he suddenly knew how to smile or laugh.

"What does everyone know about me?" I whispered to Kai.

"Just your status and which families you hold." He frowned at me. "You don't know much do you?"

"No, Rei over there likes to keep me in the dark." I joked.

"It's for your own good, you're too pure for this life style and I mean that in the best way possible."

"Who are the rest of the people? And why weren't we introduced to them?" I nodded to the rest of the table.

"The men opposite us are Vasily' brothers and superiors. The women are all Vasily's daughters and wife."

"Watch Carter, he only speaks to Vasily directly because Vasily is the only person of importance in this family." Kai nodded towards Carter. "Carter of course speaks to Landon but never when he is in discussion with his father."

"Makes sense." I stood and so did everyone else at the table besides Carter.

"Where are you going irmãzinha?" Carter stood with Beau.

"The toilet, I'll be back soon." I whispered to him and turned to leave.

I searched the room for a toilet exist and headed towards it. Messiah, Felik and Elliot flanked me, pushing passed the waiters.

"Don't even think about entering without us checking." Messiah held my arm as Elliot entered.

"Sounds like a threat." I peeled his hand from my arm.

"Good."

Returning to the table, Kai told me more about how these things normally go and what to expect when attending any kind of event with Carter.

Out of nowhere, gunshots rang out in the restaurant.

"CARTER SOREIGN, WHERE ARE YOU?" Someone sang loudly.

My heart skipped a beat and my first instinct was to grab a hold of Beau.

Everything happened so fast, everyone was up and out of their seats in a heartbeat. Messiah and Felik pulled me from the table and pushed me behind them. Carter placed Beau into my arms gently, placing his index finger in front of his lips, silently telling her to be quiet.

"Okays Uncle Carter." She smiled innocently.

I held onto Beau and prayed nothing would happen to her. Our security team had formed a circle around us at this point as Messiah and Kai flanked Carter.

"Tsk tsk tsk, Carter Soreign. You're a tough guy to track down." An unknown voice called out as he entered the exclusive area our table was in.

My heart jumped at the sight of multiple guns being pointed at Carter.

"No, I'm not." Carter threw a flashing device on the dinner table. "I made it easy for you."

I watched through a small gap between Zion and Felik, and recognized the flashing device as the one Carter had found attached to one of the cars this afternoon.

"What are you playing at?" The guy thrashed his gun forward in a threatening manner.

I'd like to know too. I thought.

Everyone stared at Carter as if he had lost his mind and I was one of them.

"I'd like to know how your older brother Gal is? Have you buried him yet Vince?" Carter took a swing of his scotch. "I do hope you left the carving."

"FUCK YOU! YOU DON'T KNOW WHO YOU'RE MESSING WITH." Vince screamed and flicked his safety off.

"The question is, do you know?" Carter pointed at Vince.

Beau leaned into the crook of my neck and inhaled deeply, her soft breathing helped my erratic heartbeat.

Once her hand loosened from my hair, I knew she had fallen asleep.

"How are you sleeping right now?" I whispered into her ear and pecked her cheek softly.

"Who am I?" Vince kept his gun pointed at Carter and the men behind him kept their guns pointed at everyone else in the room.

"Vince, third oldest out of Aunt Carla's sons." Carter smirked. "Why are you here? Vice is the one who put the hit out on his own daughter and family."

"You killed my brother and I want a sibling for a sibling. I heard about your father Hayze or my Uncle I should say, leaving behind a daughter, all three families huh." He tsk'ed, walking circles around Carter.

Dad must have another sister named Carla. Who is probably disowned too. I thought sarcastically.

"Your brother said so himself, take or be taken." Carter spoke emotionless.

A smirk raised to Carters face and with a tsk of his own, Serial appeared out of nowhere and had every single one of Vince' men on the floor.

And just like that, Carter had Vince pinned to the wall by the throat.

"Welcome to The S Mafia cous."
