"We have to leave now!" Katherine cried.
Bethany nodded. "Come this way." Bethany said running down the hall. Katherine picked up her dress and quickly followed behind. Both girls ran down the long hall where they suddenly came upon a woman standing in front of a cell. As she came closer to the cell she could see Dallas' head and arms sticking out of it.
Dallas lifted his head and smiled once his eyes landed on Katherine. "Katherine you're here."
Katherine smiled. "Yeah, I know. We need to get out of here. We don't have much time."
Dallas nodded. "Katherine this is my mother." He said pointing to the middle aged lady. "She agreed to help."
Katherine looked toward the woman. "Thank you."
The woman nodded. "Come we must begin the removal of the trackers." The lady said, grabbing Katherine's arm. "I have to warn you this is going to be quick and very painful." Before Katherine could reply the woman wiped out a small knife and immediately began the incision. A scream came from Katherine, but it was silenced by a hand over her lips, Bethany's hand.
The lady moved fast as she began her work. "Thankfully the tracker was just under the skin. So, I don't have to go deep." The woman said as she pulled out the blood covered tracker. "Quickly Dallas, help Katherine with her wound as I work on Beth." The woman said handing Dallas the supplies needed. She then proceeded to remove Bethany's as quickly as possible as Dallas wrapped Katherine's wound. This proceeded until all their trackers were removed.
"Quickly you must leave who knows how long my sister can distract us." Katherine said.
"Sister?" Dallas said, confused.
"She'll explain later." Bethany replied.
"Wait. What about your clothes?" Bethany asked, looking toward Katherine. "You cannot run in a dress."
Katherine looked down at her clothes knowing fully she could not escape in the attire she was dressed in. With all the commotion she almost forgot about it. "Uhm...maybe I can run in my undergarments?"
All of them just gave her a look as if she was crazy.
"Look you can have mines." They all turn toward Dallas' mother.
"Mom? Are you-"
Dallas' mother raised her hand to silence him. "No time to argue. Katherine remove your clothes. Quickly." Katherine made no reply as she immediately did as she was told as there was no time for debate. Both women began to strip causing Dallas to immediately turn his head with Bethany following pursuit. She stepped out of her dress and tossed off her shoes. As soon as the lady's clothes were removed Katherine quickly slipped them on followed by the ragged shoes. She now had on the attire of a maid. As Dallas mother now had on Katherine's dress.
"Ok run. Get out of here...." The woman said. "...and do not return." She said as she looked toward her son and niece with tears in her eyes. Bethany and Dallas ran up to her hugging her tight as tears ran down their faces.
"I love you, mom." Dallas said softly to her.
"I love to, son." She replied. "I love both of you. Take care of each other." They all released the hug and turned to join Katherine.
Katherine could see the tears on their face as they departed. She knew exactly how they felt and what they were going through. 'We need each other now more than ever.' Katherine thought as she ran through the palace with the others.
.........
"Okay. Quickly this way." Dallas said as he looked around the corner seeing the coast is clear. There was no sign of guards or anyone for that matter. 'What the heck did my sister do?' Katherine thought as all three of them ran toward the exit that leads to the back yard.
Their running ceased as they looked around the gardened backyard for any sign of the guards. Again no sign of any guards. "Your sister must have one heck of a distraction.' Dallas mumbled. Katherine nodded in agreement as Dallas looked around one more time. "Let's go." He said motioning them to run.
BANG! BANG!
The sudden sound of gunshots startled all three of them. The sound was then followed by multiple footsteps. All three of them dove behind a bush as the set of footsteps rushed past them. When the sound of footsteps died down they used this opportunity once again to make a run for it, toward the fence. The fence was rather large so they had to do some climbing to get to the other side.
Katherine and Dallas were first over the fence as of Bethany, she was still coming down. "Guys, we have to keep a lookout for the escape group I was telling you about." Dallas reminded them as he and Katherine watched Bethany finally reach the bottom of the fence.
"You mean that guy you mentioned who used to be in the US army." Katherine asked as they began to move quickly, but cautiously.
Dallas nodded his head. "Yeah, him."
"But, how do we know where he would be." Bethany asked.
Dallas suddenly stopped for a moment catching his breath as well as Bethany and Katherine. "I...I don't know."
"What?" Katherine asked, horrified. "Why didn't we discuss this during our plan of escape?!"
Dallas sighed. "He never went into much detail where exactly we would meet. All I know is that we need to be at the city board before midnight." Dallas explained.
Katherine and Bethany both nodded and began to follow Dallas out of the palace area. Not looking back at their former prison.
..............
The complicated thing about escaping the palace was that it was in the center of the city. Although it was surrounded by some wooded area. Katherine guested it was to give the residence of the palace some privacy.
Now it had only been a few moments since they jumped the fence and can still hear some commotion going on at the palace. Katherine had a deep feeling that something bigger than her sister's distraction was going on.
"Guys I think we should stop." Dallas said, suddenly stopping in his tracks.
"Why?" Bethany asked.
"In case the group shows up." Dallas said.
"I agree with Dallas." Katherine spoke up. "I have a feeling the commotion was not my sister's distraction."
"Do you think it was the military guy?" Dallas asked.
Katherine shrugged. "It could be." Then glanced back toward the direction of the palace that was now hidden by trees in their view. As Katherine continued to look she noticed something glowing in the distance. It appeared to be on the further side of the palace.
"Guys, do you see that?" Katherine asked, squinting her eyes and taking a step forward. Dallas and Bethany gave her a confused look. They both followed Katherine's gaze in the direction of the palace. Through the thicket of the wood a glowing of yellowish color can be seen.
"Is that...a fire?" Bethany asked.
Katherine shook her head, not moving her eyes from the light. "I don't know."
Suddenly the sound of branches snapping caused all three of them to jump. They all turn behind them to find the source of the noise. However, they were only met with darkness and trees.
"What was that?" Bethany asked. Then suddenly another branch snapping came from Katherine's side.
Katherine almost jumped out of her skin at the sound. Her heart began to race in her chest as she stepped back to Dallas and Bethany. All of them were now holding on to each other for dear life as they trembled in fear as the sound of shoes stepping on the ground got closer.
All of them held their breath as they waited for the unknown, waiting to be placed in imprisonment again.
The rustling continued to get closer. It sounds as if it was several of them. Their eyes darted around the woods trying to find the lycans hidden in them until suddenly a bright light was shown in their eyes.
"What the heck?" Katherine said as she squinted her eyes while shielding the light with her hands.
"Who are you?" A harsh voice asked. Katherine slowly opened her eyes. The bright light was still shining in them. Katherine tried to make out a face, but the person in front her kept the flashlight right on them. "I said who are you?" The guy asked again.
"Uhm...Katherine." She answered unsure. "Could you please get that light out of my face?"
"Marcus, get the light out of her face." Someone ordered. The light was removed from her face and she could see that they were surrounded by a small group of people. The group may have had 10 in the group with men and women. The youngest in the group looked to be around 15 years old.
One man in the group stepped up beside the man that had the light in Katherine's face. "Marcus, are you a dumba**? Can't you see it's the Luna Prime?" The man asked Marcus.
Marcus looked at the man confused and then realized cam upon his face. "Oh."
The man rolled his eyes then his attention was turned toward Katherine. "You're trying to escape. Are you?"
"What's it to you?" Bethany asked, taking a step beside Katherine.
"Wait, Bethany, this is the guy I was telling you and Katherine about." Dallas said, stepping up to her.
"Yeah I know you. We talked at the auction." The guy said looking at Dallas.
"Who are you?" Katherine asked.
The man looked toward Katherine. "John. Now if you want to live to see tomorrow I suggest we go now. My men's sacrifice will not be in vain."
"Sacrifice?" Katherine asked. "So, that was a-"
"Yes, Miss Katherine, that commotion was from people who sacrificed themselves for others' freedom. Now I'll tell you the story later if we make it out of here." John said before turning running through the woods. The others in the group all joined John as he led the way out of the woods. Katherine, Dallas, and Bethany all glanced toward each other then began jogging with the rest of the group out of the woods.
Katherine's heart raced with the adrenaline rush as she ran. She was on her way to freedom. And hopefully be reunited with what's left of her family.
