"KATHERINE!"

Katherine's heart pounded heavily in her chest as her blood ran cold. The breath in her lungs was knocked out.

Everything seems to move in slow motion as the lycan runs at her full speed rage in its eyes.

"This is the end," Katherine whispered to herself as she closed her tear-filled eyes, embracing death.

BANG! BANG!

"ARRRGGGHHH!"

Katherine stood frozen eyes still close with hands balled in a tight fist.

"ARRRGGGHHH!"

Another scream reached Katherine's ears. She slowly opened her eyes once she realized she was still standing and...unharmed?

She looked in front of her to see the wolf gone, but felt no relief as she felt a presence behind her. Hot, irony breath tickle her neck as the lycan stood close behind her.

"Katherine." A familiar voice whispered in her ear. Katherine closed her eyes tightly in fear. The sudden feeling of a heavy hand resting on her shoulder caused her jump.

"Katherine." He repeated. She could hear footsteps move in front of her despite the chaos going on around her. "Open your eyes, mate."

Katherine's heart dropped at that word. Mate. Hesitantly and fearfully she opened her eyes as she knew she could not stay like this forever.

Her eyes widen in horror at the sight before. She felt as if she was going to faint.

There stood a man, no lycan covered in blood with a grin plastered on his face.

"X-Xerous?" Katherine could barely speak.

"Sorry..." He said, approaching her. "...but, she was trying to kill me and we can't have that." He said smirking.

"W-What?"

Katherine slowly turned behind her. A loud scream escaped Katherine's lips as she saw her old friend, a friend she had since they were in pre-school.

There laid a decapitated Bri lying on the ground with blood squirting from her body with guts spewed from her stomach. Her eyes were wide as well as her mouth. The gun still in her hand.

"Besides, I just saved her from a terrible fate. I mean. Do you seriously think Demos would have let her live before he tortures her?" Xerous whispered in her ear.

Rage filled Katherine as she turned to slap Xerous across the face.

Xerous barely flinched at the impact. He just smirked at her amused.

"YOU MURDERING BASTARD! HOW COULD YOU?!" She yelled tear flooding her eyes.

A hint of sympathy briefly flickered in eyes but was soon gone. He opened his mouth to speak but was halted at another familiar voice.

"Katherine!"

Her and Xerous turned to see the one and only Demos standing there. He had a look on his face that Katherine has never seen since her time with him. A look of relief and joy.

Demos quickly began making his way toward them when Xerous began to speak. "Brother, I told you I will find her for you," Xerous said, stepping forward.

Demos glanced at him for a moment then nodded in response. He moved around Xerous and stood before Katherine. He looked at her longingly as he placed a hand on her cheek. "Katherine."

Katherine just glared at him with tears in as she took a step back. Demos flashed her a confused look.

"Stay away from me, Demos. I'm done with you. I reject you and I want nothing to do with you!" She yelled. "YOU HEAR ME! JUST LEAVE ME ALONE!"

He growled at her in annoyance at her resistance to his touch. "Enough of your foolishness, Katherine." He said stepping toward her, grabbing her arm tightly. "We are going home where you will be punished for your rebellion against me and learn how to be a proper m-"

Demos' words were cut off as his eyes suddenly widen. He then looked down at his chest to see a red spot growing bigger by the second.

"K-Katherine." He whispered then fell to the ground in front of her.

Katherine looked down at him wide-eyed in shock then her eyes traveled ahead of her to see Xerous standing holding a gun in hand.

Xerous eyes were serious, yet held satisfaction. The usual grin on his face was gone.

Katherine backed away in fear as Xerous lowered the gun and casually walked over to his wounded brother.

Using his foot, Xerous turned Demos over on his back.

Blood poured from Demos's mouth as he opened it wide as if trying to speak. "W-What?...W-Why?" Demos asked, his wide eyes staring up at his brother in horror.

Xerous looked over at a frozen Katherine then back at Demos. He kneeled down beside him to where he was leveled at his ear. "You ruined my life, Demos, the moment you were born. You stole everything that belongs to me including the throne and my mate." He said lowly. "I'm just taking back what belongs to me." He shrugged then stood to his feet.

Katherine stood there not sure what to do as she watched Xerous walked over to Bri placing the gun in her hand. He then looked over toward Katherine giving her a smirk.

Katherine's head began to pound at everything that was going on around her. Screams and gunshots could still be heard as she stood in shook.

"I'm sorry you had to find out this way," Xerous said grabbing her face. "But, this was bound to happen." He said motioning to Demos. Xerous rubbed his thumb against her cheek and stared at her lovingly. He waited for her for so long, a mate. "This is going to hurt, Katherine."

"W-What-"

The next thing she saw was the back of Xerous hand connecting to her face then nothing, but darkness.

..............

Xerous caught Katherine in his arms before she could fall holding her bridal style against his chest.

"MY PRINCE!"

Xerous looked up to see two lycan guards running toward him.

"My prince we have captured most of the humans, but some go-"

They stopped once they see the scene before them. Their Alpha Prime lying dead on the ground and their Luna Prime unconscious.

"M-My prince, what has happened?" One asked, approaching Xerous slowly.

Xerous slowly lifted his gaze from Katherine toward the lycan guards. His eyes were red as if they threaten to spill with tears.

"T-That human!" He yelled, gesturing his head toward Bri's dead body. "She shot my brother! Your king!" Xerous looked at her dead body in rage as tears spilled.

"A human killed the Alpha Prime?" Another asked.

"Unfortunately," Xerous said, looking up at them. "We must inform the Palace and the pack nation what has happened here-"

BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG!

"KATHERINE!" John shouted, running toward them firing a gun with several others following behind.

'QUICKLY WE MUST GO!" Xerous shouted and began to move.

'WHAT ABOUT ALPHA PRIME'S BODY?!" A guard asked, running behind him.

"NO TIME! WE HAVE TO LEAVE HIM!" He shouted.

John yelled after them and continued to fire until they were soon out of sight.

"NO!" John yelled, he was about to go after them but was stopped by a hand on his shoulder.

General Ross gave him a look of remorse. "Their no way you can catch them, not with the speed they have." John looked at him then snatched his shoulder from his grasp. He looked toward the direction they went as he cursed under his breath as the prince and his men had gotten away.

.......

John sat on a crate and ran a hand through his hair as he looked at the scene around him. The chaotic battle against the lycans took place over an hour ago leaving resulting in safe haven was no longer full of peace, hope, and community. It was trashed with bullet shells, blood, and dead bodies.

Some of the people were captured by lycans no doubt some could be their mates while others ran off to who knows where. John, General Ross, and many others stayed behind to defend what was left of this place.

John released a dragged out-breath as he blamed himself for not being there to help Katherine. He should have stayed by her side.

"John, come quick!" John looked up to see a young man running toward him. John quickly stood to his feet looking at the man confused. "Come on!" The man yelled running away and soon John followed.

The young man then leads him into a tent where there stood General Ross, Dr. Sullivian, and a few other men. They were all standing around something in the middle of the tent looking down at it.

General Ross looked up at him with a victorious smirk on his face. "I think our luck just changed John." The general said moving aside and pointing toward the medical table.

John glanced at the general then walked over toward the table. His eyes widen in shock.

"Dear God."
