A bright light was the only thing Katherine could see.
Katherine furrowed her eyebrows in confusion. "A-Am I dead?" She mumbled.
"Katherine."
She squeezed her eyes shut then opened them again only to be met with the same bright light. Katherine tried to look somewhere else, but the bright light continues to follow her gaze.
"Katherine."
Katherine closed her eyes once more feeling slight pain to her head. Around her, she heard voices speaking softly. She soon felt a hand grab her shoulder and another grab her hand, shaking it gently.
"Katherine." The muffled voice called again.
"Katherine, if you can hear me open your eyes." The voice told her.
"God?" Katherine whispered while slowly opening her eyes.
A light chuckle was heard followed by a now clear and familiar voice. "No, but I'm the next best thing," Katherine looked up to see Xerous looking down at her with a smirk.
Katherine looked away from Xerios to see that she was in what to be a hospital room. However, it looked to more advance with technology than any hospital she's been to. The room had no other except one. White.
"I'm in a hospital?" She questioned trying to sit up but was stopped by a hand on her shoulder.
"Yes, my love. Don't try to get up. I think I might have hit you too hard." Xerous chuckled.
Xerous not kidding on how hard he hit her. She was now feeling the results of an almost full-blow of a lycan's fist. Her head pounded like crazy as well as still feeling a bit sluggish.
Katherine placed a hand on her pounding head and laid back down on the bed. Thoughts then began to run through her mind as memories started to playback in her head. 'Oh no. The underground refugee's. John. Bri.' Her eyes began to burn as she thought of her friends.
Suddenly, Katherine jumped a bit startled of the sudden feeling of a rough pad of a thumb under her eye. "Shh...relax, Katherine. You're fine. You're the palace infirmary." Katherine was about to speak but was interrupted by the sound of a door opening.
Katherine looked to see a woman wearing a white coat with a tablet in one hand and a container in another. The woman bowed her head and spoke. "Alpha Prime Xerous."
"Yes," Xerous answered her in an authoritative voice.
The doctor immediately raised her head and said, "I came to check on the Luna Prime."
Xerous nodded his head and told her to proceed. The doctor made her way over to me looking me over then spoke once more. "Well, Luna Prime, you have a large on your forehead from the impact to the head. I brought anti-bruise cream that should cause the bruise to go away in thirty minutes. I also brought you some pain pills that will take your headache away in less than 5 minutes."
Despite the many bad flaws of the lycan kind, the one thing about them that always impressed Katherine was their advancement in technology and medicine.
She then sat down her tablet and began opening the container on the small table next to her. The doctor pulled out to small containers one was just full of bright blue pills and the other was cream.
"Is that all doctor?" Xerous growled, impatient.
The doctor looked at him nervously and nodded. "Yes, Alpha Prime. I'll be one my way. Make sure she takes one tablet." Xerous nodded and the doctor scurried out of the room.
Xerous turned back toward Katherine with a joyful smile on his face as he rubbed his hand up and down her arm.
"Alpha Prime?" Katherine asked.
Xerous joyful smile soon turned into a smile of wickedness and deception. "Yes, my mate, Alpha Prime. You know how a hierarchy works. When the king dies a new and sometimes better king replaces him."
Katherine looked at him wide-eyed as she thought back at how Xerous shot and killed his own brother. "Y-You killed your own brother?" She asked, cautiously. She was now nervous of him more than ever before because if he was willing to kill his own brother who knows what he will do to her.
"Yes, but it's okay I never loved my brother anyway," Xerous smirked. "I've got everything I ever dream of. My birthright was given back to me."
"Where are my friends?" She asked ignoring his question.
Xerous smirk fell a little as he began to speak. "Well, they are all waiting patiently in a nice, comfortable ceil for tomorrow's event."
Katherine raised a brow in confusion. "Tomorrow's event?"
Xerous graced his face again. "Why for the execution of course."
Katherine's eyes widen. "W-What?"
"Yes, I'm sorry mate, but it was one of Demos last wishes. And according to royal pack law, we must honor the previous king's wishes no matter how much I despise him." Xerous informed her.
Tears formed in Katherine's eyes as she thought of her friends' death, but heart soon raced in her chest at a sudden thought. "W-what about my sister? Will she be spared?"
Xerous looked at her for a moment and released a dramatic sigh. "Well, unfortunately, the mate she will die as well." Katherine nearly lost her breath at the thought of her sister being put to death. Her already broken world felt as if it had finally fallen apart. "I'm so sorry, Katherine." Xerous poked out his lip giving her a sympathetic, yet fake look.
Before Katherine could think it through, she soon found her hands latched onto Xerous' neck.
Xerous looked at Katherine's eyes widen as the smirk on his face feels. The look of surprise was evident as Katherine looked at him with pure hate and fury.
Her hands began to tighten around his throat. "IF YOU SO MUCH AS LAY A HAND ON MY SISTER I WILL KILL YOU. LYCAN OR NOT. I WILL KICK YOUR A*S!"
Xerous looked at her stunned but soon smirked at her. "I never thought you had it in you. Sadly, your all bark, but no bit." He said, pushing her roughly on the bed. Xerous adjusted his shirt and glared down at her. "I'm going to let that slide since you seem emotionally unstable...I have to attend to some business. I'll be back soon." He said, leaning down to kiss her forehead, but she moved away. Xerous just smirked at her and made his way out the door.
Katherine's breath was rapid as she thought of her sister. "I have to stop this before it's too late." She then began looking around the room trying to formulate a plan.
...........
A light fog touched the forest floor as the sun's light touched the trees.
The usually wooded area was no longer quite as people moved back and forth to different locations.
"GET THOSE BOXES IN THE TRUCK! WE LEAVE IN ONE HOUR!" General Ross yelled to a few men. People scrambled back and forth packing their tents as well as other supplies need for another trip being made.
"You sure this plan is going to work?" General Ross turned to John now standing next to him. The look of stress and lack of sleep was evident on his face.
"I guarantee it." He simply replied. Ever since the day of the attack and when all hope seems lost a new opportunity has been placed before them. With the sudden turn of events, a new plan has been moved.
Currently, the members of the rebel group or what as left of them began moving out and on their way to the Lycan's pack capital. Ever since the day of the attack, the group almost immediately began moving forward with the plan. Group was currently packing from the second campsite so far and moving on to the next. To another group just like them that General Ross knows of. According to General Ross, they were another military base that saved civilians before the lycans fully took over the country.
John ran a hand through his hair as he watched the group work. He was stress and had hardly any sleep as the events of the past few days have been running through his mind.
General Ross looked over at John. Doubt was evident as he looked over John. "You doubt this plan would work?" He asked, turning away from John.
John looked over at him and sighed. "No,...I just don't want this to be my next failed attempt at saving people's lives..." General Ross looked over at him as he continued. "I already failed my first group and keeping Katherine safe. I just don't want to repeat the same mistake."
"You wouldn't. Just stick to the plan and there will be no mistakes." He said, placing a hand on John's shoulder. John nodded and began walking off to attend to his duties. While the general a seat on the tree stump and began eating his apple he pulled from his pocket.
John's heavy boots crunched in the snow as he began walking toward his desired location. On the way to where he was going, he picked up a bowl of plain oatmeal a lady cooked for the group's breakfast.
Soon he came upon a tent guarded by two men with guns held in their hands. They looked over at John and nodded to him in greeting. He nodded his head as well before he spoke. "Is he up?"
One of the men chuckled. "He barely got any sleep with Charlie being around." The guys answered gesturing toward the man beside him.
"I had to knock him around a bit." The Charlie guy shrugged.
"But, yeah, he should be up." The other guy said, stepping aside.
John thanked them and walked up toward the tent.
He let out a breath as he yanked the tent open.
The inside of the tent was a bit dark, but still enough light to see.
"What do you want?" A rough voice asked.
John looked over to his right to see a man sitting on a make-shift bed in the corner of the room. Eyes filled with hatred and disgust glared at him.
"Breakfast." John showed them the bowl of oatmeal. He placed on the floor and slide it over with his foot.
The man scoffed. "I'm not eating that."
John shrugged. "Fine with me. I don't care if you starve." The man growled in response. Sounds of shuffling and movement were soon heard. Followed by the clinking of a spoon and bowl letting John know he was eating.
John stood there for a moment then turned to walk away, but stopped when the man started to speak to him.
"You're plan will not work." The man spat in disgust. John turned to look in his direction. "The royal guard and my elite warriors will overpower you." He continued almost sounding cocky.
"As long as we have their ruler as our prisoner and with a promise of his death if they do not comply...they will surrender," John replied. The tent was silent for a moment until John spoke up for a moment. "
Your kind's rule over us is over and we are taking back what is our's." John stepped closer to the man and glared down at him. "It's over for you, Demos."
Demos looked up at him with red glowing eyes as he smoked. "We shall see," John smirked at his confidence before he began to leave once again. "Oh and John..." John stopped in his tracks turning his head back to him. "As soon as I am free I will kill you in the most brutal way imaginable." Demos promised.
"We shall see," John replied leaving the tent.
.........
Hours had passed since John's conversation with the Alpha Prime himself. It was now nightfall. If John had to guess he would say it was 11 pm. He and his group were making good progress time-wise. They should be at there desired location if they keep up the pace.
The group hardly made any stops. The only time they did stop was to use the restroom which was behind a nearby tree. However, once they met up with General Ross' acquaintance. Time was of importance.
"We should be there in thirty minutes," General announced. John looked up to see General Ross holding a topographic map in his hand. The General sat in the front of the Jeep in the passenger seat while someone else drove. John sat in the back seat beside another man.
John nodded his head as he looked out the window in thought. What he was doing gave him hope that he could have America again.
After drifting off to a quick nap he was soon awakened by the loud authoritative voice of General Ross.
"ALRIGHT PEOPLE LET'S MOVE!: General Ross yells.
John looked around to see the doors to the Jeep opening the man that was driving and Ross quickly exited the vehicle. John wiped his face with his hand trying to wake himself up.
"You okay, man?"
John looked to see it was the man that was sitting beside him. He nodded his head and stepped out of the vehicle as well. He looked around to see that their vehicles stopped at what looked to be a cave that was surrounded by forest. Two bright lights were shown on each side of the cave giving them some light to see.
At the edge of the cave stood a man who wore a green t-shirt and camouflage pants. The man also had four men, two on each side holding guns.
"Joshua!" The man yelled. John looked to see Ross walk over to him and wrapped his arms around him a brotherly hug.
"Luke," Ross said, pulling away from the hug. "It feels like forever since I have seen my little brother."
The man named Luke nodded. "I got your message on what happened to your group. I'm sorry."
Ross nodded. "Yeah,"
"Is this all that's left of your people?" Luke asked looking around at everyone. Ross nodded. "And do you have the prisoner?"
"Yes, he's been sedated," Ross informed him.
Luke nodded. "Come inside we have to prepare to leave." Luke turned going back inside the cave with the four men following behind. Ross looked back at his people and motioned them inside.
.......
"...our main goal is to get here," Ross said, pointing toward the map of the palace and the area around it.
At the moment, there was a small, brief meeting taking place. General Ross, Luke, John, and a few other men and women sat at the table going over the plan. While Ross' men and Luke's people began loading important supplies getting ready for their trip.
"First we need to set up base at this location here." Ross pointed to the map again, but at a different location.
"This is where you want to do the broadcast correct?" Luke asked. Ross nodded.
"We need to have a plan to secure the prisoners." John entered the conversation.
"I can lead a team in after them." One man volunteered. "While the broadcast is going on we can sneak in when everyone is distracted."
Ross had a look of thought. "I don't know... the prison is most likely the most guarded."
"I agree especially with the event that is taking place tomorrow," Luke answered.
Ross and the others gave him a confused. "Event?" Ross asked.
"I have an inside man who has been feeding me information," Luke explained. "There is supposed to be a live execution being held tomorrow."
The group looked amongst each other in concern at this information. "There may be a chance we can rescue the prisoners if we make before the 'event' takes place."
"We are going to need to be quiet and stealthy when doing this." One of the women said.
"We'll have to use silencers on the guns," Ross stated.
"I think we are all forgetting on the important thing," John spoke up causing everyone to look toward him. "How exactly would we get there on time?... We are halfway across the pack country there is no way we will make it for this plan to work."
"Well, our Luetinant has a plan." The same woman answered.
"Don't worry will make it in time," Luke answered, standing up and walking to the front of the room.
"My fellow Americans I think its time we take back our country..." Luke smirked.
"The revolution has begun."
