Jadwa

"I know" those words kept ringing in my ears and for some reason makes me mad

"Jadwa" i called my name, its so much easier to even pronounce than jalila,

My freedom and life has been taken away from me and now my name? No it cant be

"Have a lovely meal" i said when I dropped the scrambled eggs with croissants and coffee He asked for,

He was all set to go for work and i was so happy because i will go down and help out in the kitchen,

He finished and left which gave me enough time to finish my chores,

I wasn't doing anything so I went to help Amla in the kitchen which made her so happy,

"The black ones should come before the brown then other colors comes after" Sultan yelled from across the room,

He came back so pissed today for no reason and he was making me arrange his large walk in closet again,

I finished and went to bring his lunch, since he was all alright now i thought serving him his normal kitchen food will be okay but i got it wrong,

The sound of plates shattering on the floor made me turn immediately with wide eyes

"And what the hell is this supposed to be?" He snapped which made me shiver

"Its tuwo and vegetable soup your majesty" I answered trembling

"And?" He asked again very calm p.s calmness before the storm

"When did I open my mouth and mentioned any of that as what I wanted to eat?"

"Listen to me Jalila or whatever your name is, the next time you bring me food from outside will be the last day you spend in this palace"

"Do i make my self clear?" He asked and i just nodded nervously,

He didn't say anything and I clearly know why so i had to speak up,

"Yes your highness" i said in a very low tune

I rushed and picked the broom and packer to pack the broken plates and poured food before it hurt someone,

"What would you like me to make for you?" I asked and he looked at me from head to toe,

"Garnished noodles will do" so I hurried and made the noodles for him,

"I should choke and die?" He asked and i had no idea what he meant till it rang a bell

I hurried and brought him a glass of orange juice,

"Meanie" my inner voice said as I left him there,

I was surprised he didn't call me back but happy because I don't want to be his stress reliever 🙄🙄

I was so bored the next day because i had nothing to do so I decided to fulfill my promise to Sultans grandma,

I didn't even know where to find her and also I've never strolled around the palace so everywhere seems new to me but i was so happy to finally have an adventure

I've been walking for about 30 minutes now exploring and at the same time finding where Didi is,

When i was finally tired I decided to go back and ask any guard I will see to lead me,

I was rushing with my head down which was how I normally walk and didn't know when I collided with a group of women talking a stroll I guess,

"I'm so sorry please I didn't raise my head to see you coming" I hurried and apologized,

The older looking woman with expensive jewelry all over her body starting from her earrings down to her anklets gave me a disgusting look from head to toe which was frightening so I looked down immediately,

She whispered something to one of the girl in uniform that was when I noticed the she was together with her maids but i don't know who she is, I've never seen her or maids with that color of uniform,

The maid faced me with a disgusted look before speaking up, "Her highness will like to know who you are and why you bumped into us"

"Her highness?" I mentally asked myself then I finally spoke

"I'm so sorry I bumped into you please" i pleaded and the woman didn't even raise her head to look at me,

"I'm a palace maid" I finally said that was when she spoke up

"Look girl, we all know you are a palace maid obviously but which?"

"Sultans chambers" i said and she looked at me again as if she was inspecting me

"Umm so you're the new whore" then she coughed immediately pretending as if it was a slip of tongue "maid" she corrected sarcastically

"Yes?" Which cane out more of a question but she didn't even bother

"She eyed me from head to toe then she said "well we shall meet again in a more suitable atmosphere" and raised her head up and continued walking with the maids following her quickly

I gave them one last glance before i headed to continue what i was out to do, not so long i saw a guards standing in front of a gigantic house

"Hm this palace is really big" i said as i headed to green him

"Good evening sir" i greeted the one our eyes met

"Evening" he replied with his deep voice and emotionless face, "whats up with all these guards ne wai I've never seen any smiling" i asked myself and just said whatever and continued

"I'm sorry to disturb but please do you know where i can find her highness Sultan's grandma Didi?" I asked and he looked at he slowly from head to toe

"Who are you?" He asked

"Jadwa" I replied as if he was supposed to know who Jadwa is

"Sultans maid" i added and he nodded before opening the gate and yelling to the other guards

"She's from Yarima Sultans chambers Audu take her to Her Majesty's throne room" he said and the Audu yelled "an gama" and led the way

I just nodded and followed him asking myself why they had to yell,

We got to a nice looking parlor and he told me to sit there a maid will call her,

"She's from Yarima Sultan's chambers" he told the maid that just came out of a door leading to the parlor and she nodded and left

She came back few minutes and met me "you can see her now" she said and I stood and followed behind her,

"Jadwa!!" Didi said smiling, she was seated on a sofa which looked so soft even without touching her legs were crossed on top and there was a bowl of almonds in front of her with 2 maids seated beside her,

"Come come" she said leading me with her hand as she patted the space close to her for me to sit

"Good evening your highness" I greeted kneeling down as I bowed my head

She patted my shoulder and I looked at her and smiled,

I wanted to sit on the floor but she insisted that i sit close to her so i did,

"I taught you won't ever come" she said before she looked at her maids "halima, jamila I'll see you later koh" she said to then and they stood and left saying "okay your highness"

"Jadwa to what do i owe this pleasure?" She asked and i just smiled "i came to fulfill my promise" i told her and she smiled and stood up gently

"Well let me at least give you a tour of my house since you'll be coming more often won't you?" She asked and i said yes yes nervously

We strolled around and couldn't even finish seeing everything because the house was so big and Didi was already tired,

"I need to go back for my checkup soon, old age is making me loose my fitness" she said with a wide grin and I smiled too,

We entered her giant bedroom then she laid on the bed "do your magic" she said and i nodded and started massaging her,

I don't know how long it took but judging by her comments she really enjoyed it,

"Jadwa thank you so much" she said and i smiled

"Its my job your highness" I replied her and she smiled and stretched

I didn't know what time it was and I've been searching for a clock nearby but i cant find one anywhere,

"I think I should be going back now" I announced and Didi looked at me with a sad expression

"At least wait and eat kinji" she said and I tried denying but ended up accepting,

She wasn't treating me like a maid at all, we sat on her carpet as her maids arranged the food and were about to serve when I stopped them immediately

"I'll take it from here please" i said to them and they looked at Didi before she nodded and they left

I served Didi and handed her the bowl to wash her hands,

Then I served a little on my plate and she eyed me

"Jadwa eat enough food please" she said

I just smiled and added a little portion of tuwo again and she chuckled,

We finished eating and i helped pack all the plates to the kitchen then i went back to tell her i was leaving

"Here" she said handing me a small gift bag and I didn't know what to say or do,

I collected it gently kneeling down to thank her because she made me so emotional,

She hugged me "come on Jadwa it's okay, you're like a grand daughter to me" she said and it melted my heart,

"Okay Didi see you soon" i said to her and we went out to her parlor together

"Nana please follow her, tell bakaki to escort her to Sultans gate" she said to a slim lady and the lady said "Okay Didi" and we left,

I didn't even know it was already late almost magrib time and that was when my heart started beating fast because I'm sure Sultan came back hours ago and I didn't even cook, i am doomed

We reached the gate and i thanked the guard and rushed inside,

"Jadwa ina kika shiga?" Amla asked sounding so worried as she held my hand

"Lafiya?" I asked and she just said Sultan asked of me which was surprising because he doesn't even talk to them

I already know something was up just from the way my heart was beating fast against my chest as I went inside,

"And do you care to explain where the hell you were?" Sultans angry voice stopped me right before I entered the kitchen ............
